  • "Volkswagen Passat" Navigation

    - by joe_midi
    http://web.vw.com/all-new-passat-experience/ The navigation on this .swf is very impressive, and I was wondering how I would go about replicating it. The way each of the sections Design / Technology / Safety / Performance I want to know how each section can expand and still fit together. I've started with MOUSE_OVER events, but I'm not entirely sure how to order them so each section is the right size for every mouse over Event. This is the code I have for each "Section", I have created a movie clip with a Mask that expands on mouse over and brings the selected clip to the highest depth. this.firstButton01.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, firstButton01OVER) function firstButton01OVER(e:Event):void { this.firstButton01.gotoAndPlay(2); this.setChildIndex(firstButton01,this.numChildren-1); }

  • Server Side code Pushing Data to client Browser while current thread is busy Comet (programming)

    - by h_power11
Hello Friends, I am writing one simple web page with bunch of textboxes and a button control. Now when user finished editing the values on this text boxes user has to click the button and this button invoke heavily process intensive algorithm on server side code based on the data received from client (Textboxes) And it could some time takes up to 30 to 45 minutes to complete the whole operation so the current thread is still inside the button click event handler function. That background task only provides one event, and the web page subscribes to it to get some text data after each stage of processing I was wandering if there is any way I can keep user up-to-date with what is the current progress on that background task. I have div element to print the current status information So I am looking for some sort of reverse mechanism then "get" and "post". I have read some articles on the Comet (programming) but I can't find any easy or definitive answer Thanks in advance

  • Send some form info to a PHP page to be processed without going to that page? [closed]

    - by zuko
Okay, so I'm not very familiar with php. I have a very simple form, just 2 text fields. All I want to do is, after validating with JavaScript, send these two string fields in an email to a pre-defined email address. I understand how JavaScript works on the client side; you can respond to user events, etc. And PHP is server-side. What I'm having trouble grasping and figuring out is how do I run PHP functions, etc when I want? I figured out how to use the 'action' attribute of the form to send the data via POST to another PHP page. But this simply opens that page. I don't want to open the page I just want to do some processing and send a message back to the page the user is still on. How do I go about something like that? Thanks.

  • Why Timer does not work if we do not generate a window?

    - by Roman
Here is the code: import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.Timer; public class TimerSample { public static void main(String args[]) { new JFrame().setVisible(true); ActionListener actionListener = new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent actionEvent) { System.out.println("Hello World Timer"); } }; Timer timer = new Timer(500, actionListener); timer.start(); } } It generates a window and then periodically prints "Hello World Timer" in the terminal (Command Prompt). If I comment this line new JFrame().setVisible(true); the application do not print anything to the command line. Why?

  • Pitfalls of using a WYSIWYG editor? [closed]

    - by user50849
I'm interested in reasons for disallowing content editors on medium to large sites, from using various forms of WYSIWYG editors. A common problematic scenario I can think of is that with the use of a WYSIWYG, an editor uploads an image "somewhere" to the file-system, inserts it directly into the text, and publishes the article. Shortly afterwards, someone wants to pull out "The last 10 uploaded images", and display them on the frontpage. Good luck parsing all the content. Taking a look around at some large international online magazines, such as http://www.time.com/, and some local ones, I see that the editors seem to produce articles that are almost only consisting of raw text. Images are usually at the top of the article, and otherwise the most complex content are usually links. What are some common reasons for refusing editors access to WYSIWYG tools?

  • Jquery file format

    - by sarbe
HI. I have multiple webpages. So I have a common external js file. And I have added this js file to every page. I have multiple check boxes in every page. And I have written the click event in the external, common js file. But I wonder how the js file should be? Currently I have written like this. $(document).ready(function() { $(".chk").click(function() { alert("hi"); }); }); But whenever I click a checkbox the click event is fired twice. it should be once. I dont know where is the error, is there any error in writing the js file? please comment.

  • Imbedded wpf textbox does not accept input

    - by pro3carp3
I put a wpf textbox inside a combobox to allow the user to enter a custom setting. I can read the keypress in the keydown event, but the text in the textbox does not change. What am I missing? <ComboBoxItem Name="GridSizeCustom"> <StackPanel Height="30" Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="Grid Size (8 - 200)" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Margin="0" /> <TextBox Name="GridSizeBox" KeyDown="test" Width="50" /> </StackPanel> </ComboBoxItem> I step through this event handler when I press a key, but no change to the textbox text: public void test(Object sender, KeyboardEventArgs e) { int x = 0; } Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • how to achieve Inter-Widget communication

    - by bakore
I was looking for a platform where widgets developed using various technologies like Java can communicate with each other. In other words When I add widgets to an interface I need them to talk to each other. For example A Click event in one widget should trigger an event in some other widget. I have been looking into the web for solutions and ways to do it, but couldnt find anything concrete. Any pointers or information on this would be great. Something like this http://blogs.sun.com/pdblog/entry/inter_widget_communication_in_cross

  • Key Events in TabActivities?

    - by stormin986
I have a TabActivity and want to catch and handle presses of HOME and BACK. Where do I need to catch these events? In my subclass of TabActivity I implement the following: @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { switch (keyCode) { // Code handling } return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); } Didn't work. So I placed a breakpoint on the switch statement line. But this function never gets called, whether I press volume up/down, menu, home, or back. Where do I need to catch these KeyEvents?

  • How to limit results by SUM

    - by superspace
    I have a table of events called event. For the purpose of this question it only has one field called date. The following query returns me a number of events that are happening on each date for the next 14 days: SELECT DATE_FORMAT( ev.date, '%Y-%m-%d' ) as short_date, count(*) as date_count FROM event ev WHERE ev.date >= NOW() GROUP BY short_date ORDER BY ev.start_date ASC LIMIT 14 The result could be as follows: +------------+------------+ | short_date | date_count | +------------+------------+ | 2010-03-14 | 1 | | 2010-03-15 | 2 | | 2010-03-16 | 9 | | 2010-03-17 | 8 | | 2010-03-18 | 11 | | 2010-03-19 | 14 | | 2010-03-20 | 13 | | 2010-03-21 | 7 | | 2010-03-22 | 2 | | 2010-03-23 | 3 | | 2010-03-24 | 3 | | 2010-03-25 | 6 | | 2010-03-26 | 23 | | 2010-03-27 | 14 | +------------+------------+ 14 rows in set (0.06 sec) Let's say I want to dislay these events by date. At the same time I only want to display a maximum of 10 at a time. How would I do this? Somehow I need to limit this result by the SUM of the date_count field but I do not know how. Anybody run into this problem before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • In C# or .NET, is there a way to prevent other threads from invoking methods on a particular thread?

    - by YWE
I have a Windows Forms application with a BackgroundWorker. In a method on the main form, a MessageBox is shown and the user must click the OK button to continue. Meanwhile, while the messagebox is being displayed, the BackgroundWorker finishes executing and calls the RunWorkerCompleted event. In the method I have assigned to that event, which runs on the UI thread, the Close method is called on the form. Even though the method that shows the message box is still running, the UI thread is not blocking other threads from invoking methods on it. So the Close method gets called on the form. What I want is for the UI thread to block other threads' invokes until the method with the message box has finished. Is there an easy way to do that?

  • re: Production ASP.NET MVC Plug

Just wanted to do a quick plug for my first production asp.net mvc app. It's not too complex at the moment, but its going to grow into something potentially large, so I am now working on a new version to handle multiple cities. I also wanted to get it up and running with little jquery/client side features and plug in these "nice to haves" as we progress. Let me know what you guys think! I've got a pretty solid handle on Facebook Connect, so...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • F1 Pit Pragmatics

Occasionally, you just have to man up and deal with complex systems. In fact, sometimes you just need to sacrifice everything else in the name of performance. In Formula 1 Racing, each car has up to 100 sensors, transmitting around 30Gb of data over the course of a race (70% in real-time). This data is then processed by no less than 3 servers (per car) so that the engineers in the pit have access to telemetry, strategy information, timing feeds, while the servers are exposed to carbon dust, oil,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • How do you keep the value of global variables (namely a struct variable) between postbacks?

    - by user3702304
I'm new to this and have already searched for this with not much luck :( Lets say I have defined a struct array globally and filled the array with data on an Ajax ModalPopupExtender. I then have a ddl_SelectedIndexChanged event that does a postback and seems to recycle my array. Is there a way to fire the ddl_SelectedIndexChanged event to perform some code without doing a postback? Or is there an easy way to make the array of type struct retain it's values? (I am creating a website btw) Thanks in advance...

  • jquery ajax calls with scope safety

    - by acidzombie24
My gut tells me that if i am on a laggy server and the user fires two events fast enough on the success function c will be the value of the most recent event causing func1 to use the wrong value. <--- This is a guess, i haven't proved it. Its a feeling. How do i ensure that i use the right value when calling func1? I prefer not to send c to the server and i dont know if or how to serialize the data and deserialize it back. How do i make this code safe? $('.blah').click(function (event) { var c = $(this).closest('.comment'); ... $.ajax({ url: "/u", type: "POST", dataType: "json", data: { ... }, success: function (data) { func1(c. data.blah);//here

  • Can I modify an ASP.NET AJAX History Point?

    - by Nick
I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 with AJAX and have enabled history on the Script Manager. I have 2 pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. I'm using the AJAX History on the Default.aspx page and saving history points on the server-side. There are some dropdowns on Default.aspx that I don't want to save a history point for each change but would like to save the latest state so that when I click on a link on Default.aspx that navigates to Default2.aspx, when I click the back button on Default2.aspx to return I want the dropdowns to reflect what they were prior to clicking on the hyperlink. So what I'd like to do is modify the history point that I originally set on one of my ajax async postbacks on the client-side before the page navigates away to Default2.aspx. There is a location.hash javascript property that looks like it may do what I want but when I modify the value the Script Manager Navigate event is firing. Is there a way to prevent this event from firing? And would this then do the job?

  • Does SetThreadPriority cause thread reschedulling?

    - by Suma
Consider following situation, assuming single CPU system: thread A is running with a priority THREAD_PRIORITY_NORMAL, signals event E thread B with a priority THREAD_PRIORITY_LOWEST is waiting for an event E (Note: at this point the thread is not scheduled because it is runnable, but A is higher priority and runnable as well) thread A calls SetThreadPriority(B, THREAD_PRIORITY_ABOVE_NORMAL) Is thread B re-scheduled immediately to run, or is thread A allowed to continue until current time-slice is over, and B is scheduled only once a new time-slice has begun? I would be interested to know the answer for WinXP, Vista and Win7, if possible. Note: the scenario above is simplified from my real world code, where multiple threads are running on multiple cores, but the main object of the question stays: does SetThreadPriority cause thread scheduling to happen?

  • Keeping object in memory (iPhone SDK)

    - by Chris
    I am trying to create a UIImageView called theImageView in the touchesBegan method that I can then then move to a new location in touchesMoved. Currently I am receiving an "undeclared" error in touchesMoved where I set the new location for theImageView. What can I do to keep theImageView in memory between these two methods? - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { ... UIImageView *theImageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"image.png"]]; theImageView.frame = CGRectMake(263, 228, 193, 300); [theImageView retain]; ... } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { ... theImageView.frame = CGRectMake(300, 300, 193, 300); ... }

  • Can EventMachine recognize all threads are completed?

    - by philipjkim
I'm an EM newbie and writing two codes to compare synchronous and asynchronous IO. I'm using Ruby 1.8.7. The example for sync IO is: def pause_then_print(str) sleep 2 puts str end 5.times { |i| pause_then_print(i) } puts "Done" This works as expected, taking 10+ seconds until termination. On the other hand, the example for async IO is: require 'rubygems' require 'eventmachine' def pause_then_print(str) Thread.new do EM.run do sleep 2 puts str end end end EventMachine.run do EM.add_timer(2.5) do puts "Done" EM.stop_event_loop end EM.defer(proc do 5.times { |i| pause_then_print(i) } end) end 5 numbers are shown in 2.x seconds. Now I explicitly wrote code that EM event loop to be stopped after 2.5 seconds. But what I want is that the program terminates right after printing out 5 numbers. For doing that, I think EventMachine should recognize all 5 threads are done, and then stop the event loop. How can I do that? Also, please correct the async IO example if it can be more natural and expressive. Thanks in advance.

  • How to deal with a ten days debugging session? [on hold]

    - by smonff
Ten days ago, I fixed a bug on a large application and the hot fix has created a disappearing of some data from the user point of view. Data are not deleted, but have been set to hidden status. It could be possible to get the data back, but the thing seems to be hard: I've already spent 10 days to understand and reproduce the problem (mostly with complex SQL queries but sometimes it is necessary to update the database to test the application logic). Is 10 days a normal amount of time for these kind of problems? Should we keep on and retrieve the data or should we tell these users sorry for the loss, but your data have disappeared? Any advice on when to stop searching how to solve the issue?

  • Unwanted Retriggering of Textbox Events

    - by user348917
This is one of those "seems obvious" as how to do, but came across interesting side effect in implementing. I'm trying to keep two text boxes syncronized when information is updated. In this example, I will be using txtStartDate and txtEndDate. If the txtStartDate is changed, then the txtEndDate should should be updated. Likewise, if the txtEndDate changes, I want the txtSartDate to be updated. The side effect I'm comming across is that when I set them up under the TextChanged event for both, the events seem to retrigger against each other indefinately (endless loop?). Am I using the wrong event? Is this a task for a delegate?

  • How to handle the close (big X) button at the source?

    - by Simon T.
We would like under some circumstances to block the action of the close button in the title bar. The problem is that it's a MDI applications and it seems that we will have to add code in each forms to cancel the operation in the Closingevent handler. It seems that the child forms are the first to receive the event. There is no way to add code at a single place to cancel the close operation. Information on how the close event is propagated to the child form would be welcome. Is there a simple way of doing what we want to do?

  • Singleton pattern with Web application, Not a good idea!!

    - by Tony
Hi I found something funny, I notice it by luck while I was debugging other thing. I was applying MCP pattern and I made a singleton controller to be shared among all presentations. Suddenly I figured out that some event is called once at first postback, twice if there is two postback, 100 times if there is 100 postbacks. because Singleton is based on a static variable which hold the instance, and the static variable live across postbacks, and I wired the event assuming that it will be wired once, and rewired for each postback. I think we should think twice before applying a singleton in a web application, or I miss something?? thanks
