  • Deploy SMO application to workstation without SQL Server 2008 installed

    I am trying to deploy an application that uses SMO on a workstation without SQL Server installed on it. The instance the app is connecting to is SQL Server 2008. The application is failing with: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication, Version 10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845cdc8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. The assembly in question is in the same path as my application as well as system32. I am running this on a Windows 7 64 bit box. I have run SQL Native Client, CLR, and SMO MSIs from the 2008 SMO redist download page. This app worked fine when connecting to SQL Server 2005. What gives?

  • Adding Controls Programatically

    I have a page I need to build out where depending on the selection the user made on a form on the page prior it displays a different set of questions for them to answer. So say the user selects Reason A from the form on page edit, then it needs to display Questions 1 and 2 on page edit_confirmation. But if they select Reason B then it needs to display Questions 3 and 4. I'm grabbing the reason code from the query string and have a switch statement set up, but I can't find anywhere how to output different controls. If Questions 1 and 2 are supposed to show up, one could be a text box and the other a checkbox, but if questions 3 and 4 are supposed to show up one may need to be a dropdown list and a checkbox.

  • Automatically "upgrade" user settings from previous version of app.config file?

    Every time I compile my app and the version number changes (I have an auto-incrementing build number), I lose the user-configured app.config settings, since they're stored in the AppData folder for a specific version. Essentially, every release of my application starts from scratch as far as user settings go. While this is a mild annoyance in development, it raises the question as I approach deployment/release - if I use the app.config to store my user settings, will the user's personalized settings be hosed every time they install a patch that changes the version number of my app? If so, is there an easy way to "upgrade" the settings from the previous release? I know that using HKCU in the registry is another option, but I like the ease of the My.Settings namespace, and I'd like to stay with app.config. Another SO question asks something similar, though the answer doesn't seem that clear. Will setting my MSI so it asks the user to upgrade be enough to preserve these user-level settings?

    I am building a dashboard where I am iterating through a list of controls to render, and I need to initiate a general callback both after each control and after they are all completed. I was curious what the best way to handle this is. I can get the control specific callback fired off by placing myUserControlCallback(); in the user control itself. I'm just not sure how to run something like allControlsRendered();. Any ideas?

  • Update Statement Updates 0 Rows via the C# Winform Application?

    First of all, please help me out! I can not take this anymore. I could not find where the error is located. Here is my problem: I'm trying to update a row via c# winform application. The update query generated from the application is formatted correctly. I tested it in the sql server environment, it worked well. When i run it from the application i get 0 rows updated. Here is the snippet that generates the update statement using reflection - don't try to figure it out.     I'm trying to get forms authentication working for an mvc site. I have a custom database with a users table, and I would like to do my own password validation. I am logging in my user like this: if (PasswordHasher.Hash(password) == dataUser.Password) { FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(email, true); return true; } The problem is, when the session expires obviously the user has to login again. I am thinking I should be storing this Auth cookie in my users table? Update: I'm obviously in desperate need of more education in this area. I just noticed that the user stays authenticated even after an iisreset. I guess what I'm asking is how can I get persistent and non persistent authentication working properly. I want a user to not have to login again if they click "remember", and if they don't then their authentication should expire when the forms authentication is set to expire.

EDIT: I have changed the BaseControllerFactory to use Structuremap. But I get an exception on the line return (Controller)ObjectFactory.GetInstance( controllerType ); Any hint?

  • Membership systems for MVC4 that support RavenDB

    I create a lot of quick "proof of concept" MVC apps and I actually found the SimpleMembership provider that shipped with the MVC4 templates to be very handy since it gets me up and running with user registration & OAuth in a matter of minutes. But...I've started to use RavenDb (on RavenHQ for a lot for my projects). So, I starting trying to implement my own "custom membership provider" based on the ExtendedMembershipProvider and while doing that I realized that didn't make much sense. I later stumbled upon 2 interesting projects that try to solve this exact problem: WorldDomination.Web.Auth: https://github.com/PureKrome/WorldDomination.Web.Authentication MemFlex: https://github.com/OdeToCode/Memflex Both are pretty interesting recent efforts and was wondering if these are the only ones being built right now. I'm essentially looking for nuget pkg that I can drop into a MVC4 app, connect to my RavenDb and be done. I'm willing to build this thing but don't want to duplicate any efforts that are already in motion. Thx!

I don't want to have to create separate classes / modules for step1, step2, etc. Is there a way that I can accomplish namespace functionality from inside a class?
