My problem comes up when it's time to persist an object. At runtime, I can create an object which could be an instance of DerivedClass, DerivedClassA or DerivedClassB. As you can see, each one of the derived classes introduces a new field which only makes sense for that specific derived class. All the classes share the same physical table in the database. If I persist an object of type DerivedClass, I expect fields BE_FIELD, DE_FIELD, ID and TYPE to be persisted with their values and the remaining fields to be null. If I persist an object of type DerivedClass A, I expect those same fields plus the FIELD_CLASS_A field to be persisted with their values and field FIELD_CLASS_B to be null. Something equivalent for an object of type DerivedClassB. Since the @Embedded annotation is at the BaseClass only, Hibernate is only persisting the fields up to that level in the tree. I don't know how to tell Hibernate that I want to persist up to the appropriate level in the tree, depending on the actual type of the embedded property. I cannot have another @Embedded property in the subclasses since this would duplicate data that is already present in the superclass and would also break the Java model. I cannot declare the embedded property to be of a more specific type either, since it's only at runtime when the actual object is created and I don't have a single branch in the hierarchy. Is it possible to solve my problem? Or should I resignate myself to accept that there is no way to persist the Java model as it is? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  I need some help finding the error in my javascript calculation. I need to calculate the sum of my input boxes automatically and have my user be able to edit the calculation using + or - buttons. The code I have already does the calculation automatically if you manually enter the numbers, but pressing the + or - does not change the calculation. How would I go about doing this if it's even possible? Raw sql queries are good answers too because they're pretty easy to turn into DQL.

I write something like this: package object xyz{ import abc._ } It does not seem to work. If I manually write the implicit definition statement inside the package object, it works perfectly. What is the correct way to import the object (abc) such that all of its objects/classes/definitions can be used in my entire package 'xyz' ?

• Javascript form validation only works in firefox

  Hello, I am relatively new to Javascript so I'm hoping this is a simple mistake. I building a generic form validation function that is called on the form's onSubmit. The function loops through all the form's child elements, looks for certain classes, and analyzes the contents of the appropriate fields. If it finds something missing or erroneous, it displays the appropriate error message div and returns false, thus preventing the form from being submitted to the php page. It works well in firefox 3.6.3, but in every other browser I've tested (Safari 4.0.4, Chrome 4.1, IE8) it seems to ignore the onSubmit and jump straight to the php processing page.   I am loading an array with floats like this: NSArray *arr= [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.9], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.7], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.6], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.9],nil]; Now I know this is the correct way of doing it, however I am confused by the retail counts. Each Object is created by the [NSNumber numberWithFloat:] method. This gives the object a retain count of 1 dosnt it? - otherwise the object would be reclaimed The arrayWithObjects: method sends a retain message to each object. This means each object has a retain cont of 2. When the array is de-allocated each object is released leaving them with a retain count of 1. What have I missed?

• Building a custom iterator.

  I am making this class which is a custom Map based off a hash map. I have an add method where if you add an object the object will be the key, and its value will be 1 if the object is not currently in the list. However if you add object that is currently in the list its value will be bumped up by 1. So if I added 10 strings which were all the same, the key would be that string and the value will be 10. I understand in practice when I iterate through the map, there is actually only one object to iterate, however, I am trying to create a inner class that will define an iterator that will iterate the same object however many times its value is. I can do this by simply using for loops to construct an appropriate ArrayList and just create an iterator for that, but that is too inefficient. Is there an easy or more efficient way of doing this?

Does a variable give a name to an object, i.e. are variables just a naming mechanism for otherwise anonymous objects? Or is a variable the name itself? Or is a variable a named object in the sense that every variable is also an object? Or is a variable just a "proxy" with a name that "delegates" all operations to the real object? To confuse things further, many C++ books seem to treat variables and objects as synonyms. What is your take on this?

• Is it thread safe to read a form controls value (but not change it) without using Invoke/BeginInvoke from another thread

  I know you can read a gui control from a worker thread without using Invoke/BeginInvoke because my app is doing it now. The cross thread exception error is not being thrown and my System.Timers.Timer thread is able to read gui control values just fine (unlike this guy: can a worker thread read a control in the GUI?) Question 1: Given the cardinal rule of threads, should I be using Invoke/BeginInvoke to read form control values? And does this make it more thread-safe? The background to this question stems from a problem my app is having. It seems to randomly corrupt form controls another thread is referencing. (see question 2) Question 2: I have a second thread that needs to update form control values so I Invoke/BeginInvoke to update those values. Well this same thread needs a reference to those controls so it can update them. It holds a list of these controls (say DataGridViewRow objects). Sometimes (not always), the DataGridViewRow reference gets "corrupt". What I mean by corrupt, is the reference is still valid, but some of the DataGridViewRow properties are null (ex: row.Cells). Is this caused by question 1 or can you give me any tips on why this might be happening? How can we call methods of the shared object in another application, if the object itself is not recognized in the other application ? i am getting a runtime error when object gets typecasted, as that object is not defined in the calling applicatoin . If i typecast it to super interface and have the interface in another application. When i call getClass() on the object returned from the runtimestore. It shows as concrete class instance stored in the RunTimeStore. How can a share a object in runtimestore and use it across different applications ?

  Hello All, I have an IEnumerable<someClass>. I need to transform it into XML. There is a property called 'ZoneId'. I need to write some XML based on this property, then I need some decendent elements that provide data relevant to the ZoneId. I know I need some type of grouping. Here's what I have attempted thus far without much success. **inventory is an IEnumerable<someClass>. So I query inventory for unique zones. This works ok. var zones = inventory.Select(c => new { ZoneID = c.ZoneId , ZoneName = c.ZoneName , Direction = c.Direction }).Distinct(); No I want to create xml based on zones and place. ***place is a property of 'someClass'. var xml = new XElement("MSG_StationInventoryList" , new XElement("StationInventory" , zones.Select(station => new XElement("station-id", station.ZoneID) , new XElement("station-name", station.ZoneName)))); This does not compile as "station" is out of scope when I try to add the "station-name" element. However is I remove the paren after 'ZoneId', station is in scope and I retreive the station-name. Only problem is the element is then a decendant of 'station-id'. This is not the desired output. They should be siblings. What am I doing wrong? Lastly after the "station-name" element, I will need another complex type which is a collection. Call it "places'. It will have child elements called "place". its data will come from the IEnumerable and I will only want "places" that have the "ZoneId" for the current zone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it a mistake select distinct zones from the original IEnumerable? This object has all the data I need within it. I just need to make it heirarchical. Where can I download it? -the website is rather unclear Is it a standalone application? -I seem to remember it was an eclipse plugin but this was awhile ago. Is there an Intellij plugin?

• nokia cell phone not accepting IP from dnsmasq dhcp server

  Hello, I having problem connecting a NOkia cell phone to my home wifi network. The wifi network is provided by a wireless card in a machine running Debian Testing and 2.6.26-2-686 kernel. The cars is D-Link DWL-G520 working in ap mode and has WPA encryption enabled. The wireless network is provided by hostapd using madwifi driver. Windows and Mac machines work properly with this wifi network. If I switch off dnsmasq dhcp queries logging, i.e. if I decrease the verbosity of the log, all I see are two lines of DHCPDISCOVER(ath0) and DHCPOFFER(ath0) repeatedly in the log with no acceptance by the cell phone. It appears as though the phone is not accepting the dhcp offer. However, if I give the phone a static IP address in its configuration, it works properly on the wifi network. So it appears as though the problem is dhcp related. Hints? Suggestions?   Trying to migrate data from C: to D: via the SBS console is failing. The wizard starts running but drops out in the first few seconds. • internet explorer and google chrome rendering issues
