  • Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr. while build PHP 5.2 from source on Ubuntu 12.4

    I was trying to build PHP 5.2.17 from source on Ubuntu 12.4 64bit using this configuration: ./configure --prefix=/opt/php5.2 --with-config-file-path=/opt/php5.2 --with-mysql but I keep getting this error: configure: error: Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr. Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore! I suspected that dev package for mysql is not installed so tried installing libmysqlclient-dev but it was already there. Any Idea how to resolve this? EDIT1: I minimized the configure command so it just focuses to mysql. also I'm running a 64bit version of ubuntu.   • Magento hosting on a budget

    I have to do a setup for Magento. My constraint is primarily ease of setup and fault tolerance/fail over. Furthermore costs are an issue. I have three identical physical servers to get the job done. Each server node has an i7 quad core, 16GB RAM, and 2x3TB HD in a software RAID 1 configuration. Each node runs Ubuntu 12.04. right now. I have an additional IP address which can be routed to any of these nodes. The Magento shop has max. 1000 products, 50% of it are bundle products. I would estimate that max. 100 users are active at once. This leads me to the conclusion, that performance is not top priority here. My first setup idea One node (lb) runs nginx as a load balancer. The additional IP is used with domain name and routed to this node by default. Nginx distributes the load equally to the other two nodes (shop1, shop2). Shop1 and shop2 are configured equally: each server runs Apache2 and MySQL. The Mysqls are configured with master/slave replication. My failover strategy: Lb fails = Route IP to shop1 (MySQL master), continue. Shop1 fails = Lb will handle that automatically, promote MySQL slave on shop2 to master, reconfigure Magento to use shop2 for writes, continue. Shop2 fails = Lb will handle that automatically, continue. Is this a sane strategy? Has anyone done a similar setup with Magento? My second setup idea Another way to do it would be to use drbd for storing the MySQL data files on shop1 and shop2. I understand that in this scenario only one node/MySQL instance can be active and the other is used as hot standby. So in case shop1 fails, I would start up MySQL on shop2, route the IP to shop2, and continue. I like that as the MySQL setup is easier and the nodes can be configured 99% identical. So in this case the load balancer becomes useless and I have a spare server. My third setup idea The third way might be master-master replication of MySQL databases. However, in my optinion this might be tricky, as Magento isn't build for this scenario (e.g. conflicting ids for new rows). I would not do that until I have heard of a working example. Could you give me an advice which route to follow? There seems not one "good" way to do it. E.g. I read blog posts which describe a MySQL master/slave setup for Magento, but elsewhere I read, that data might get duplicated when the slave lags behind the master (e.g. when an order is placed, a customer might get created twice). I'm kind of lost here.

  • How to recover data files from xampp-windows to xampp-linux after crash?

    My Windows box died after I developed a database in xampp on it; fortunately I have a backup of the entire F:/TestWeb/Xampp partition. Unfortunately, I did not do an Export (nor dump) of the "Lws2" database before the crash. I have replaced the defunct machine with one running Mint7 (based on Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope") and installed xampp-linux into the /opt partition, so the new xampp now runs fine in /opt/lampp, and says all the elements are secured by passwords (which I just assigned during this installation.) I assumed that Xamp-Windows installed in November would migrate easily to xampp-linux installed iin February -- a bad assumption. It apparently would have been simple if I had known enough to do an Export or a Dump before the crash, but.... The backup was done to a Network Attached Storage drive, which is formatted as "vfat" so the backup does not carry with it any valid ownership permissions from MySql on NTFS. I now see from my backup that the old data resided in \TestWeb\Xampp\Mysql\Data\Lws2\ and consists of 7 ".frm" files which define my tables. The actual data -- I suppose a ".sql" file or files -- has disappeared, and I am resigning myself to two days of retyping it. But I do not wish to do the table layouts all over again. So I copied Data tree to /opt/lampp/Data -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it. So I copied Lws2 tree to /opt/lampp/Lws2 -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it. So I copied Data tree to /opt/lampp/var/mysql/Data -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it. So I copied Lws2 tree to /opt/lampp/var/mysql/Lws2 -- PhpMyAdmin does not see it. So I adjusted all the permissions to stop saying owner "nobody" to owner "root" and gave full permissions to all groups and to all others, with permissions percolating down, in all 4 trees. You guessed it -- PhpMyAdmin does not see any database named Lws2, only its 4 default ones. I double-checked the permissions and rebooted Linux and repeated the tests. At some point in that process I did see PhpMyAdmin showing "lws2(7)" but when I clicked on it I saw a "no table found" message. I have not been able to recreate that experience. Apparently there are some setup files for MySql and for PhpMyAdmin which need to be set up by running a wizard or two or by editing the files directly. I grepped the TestWeb tree and found an old "ldir = "C:TestWeb\Xampp\MySql\" and a "DataDir = C:TestWeb\Xampp\MySql\" in a .php file and in a .bat file, but I cannot find the corresponding config file names on the /opt partition/ -- so it looks as if these wizards have not been run to create them. What config files files does Linux use to setup MySql config files for PhpMyAdmin? What wizards do I need to run to point the MySql engine and the PhpMyAdmin at the folder /opt/lampp/data/ with its lws2 folder inside it? Or which files do I need to edit, with a sample of what it normally says under Linux? Incidentally, I remember I converted from MyISAM with its .MYD and .MYI files to InnoDB after entering only a small amount of the data -- and I do not know what file types to look for -- perhaps my data is still there but under another guise or in another place? Is it something as simple as linux needing to see "/data/" instead of /Data? I will check that out while waiting for a response. If anyone can point me to documentation that discusses this level of detail -- I will read it avidly! In any case, thanks for any clarification you can give on this thorny problem. wizdum

  • PowerDNS 3+ - Recursive queries for subdomains

    We are trying to find functionality in the PDNS 3.x that existed in PDNS < 2.9.2.5. Whereby if we have a domain in the database backend with records, if a query is unable to resolve a subdomain it would then query the recursor setup in the pdns.conf file. We have found that on Centos 6.x the rpm packages are the latest verison of pdns where by 5.x available was pdns-2.9.22-4.el5. The pdns-2.9.22-4.el5 package works as expected but when upgrading servers to Centos 6.x we loose this required functionality. pdns-backend-mysql-2.9.22-4.el5.rpm fails to install on Centos 6.x due to mysql libs that aren't availble, this is caused by an upgrade in the mysql version whereby the pdns backend mysql requires older mysql libs then what is available on centos 6.x .     I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value. This is to check the client side value according to this forum posting http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?35,75794,261640 mysql SELECT @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET - ; +----------------------+ | @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET | +----------------------+ | 1073741824 | +----------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) And this is the check the server value setting. mysql SHOW VARIABLES | max_allowed_packet | 1073741824 | I have ran out of ideas, and tried searching within expert exchange and googling for solutions but so far none has worked.   • Linux server apache httpd processes take i/o wait to close to 100% and lock down server

    For about 5 days now, and seemingly out of the blue, my linux server has started locking up from time to time. The pattern is always the same as far as I can tell from top and iotop commands around the time it starts happening: One or more httpd processes (usually one) hang and start using up 100% of CPU power, the %wa goes close to 100% and in the iotop I see several httpd processes with 99.99% in the IO column. I'm also running an SVN server on this machine through apache and the one way that I've been consistently able to reproduce this is to do an SVN commit of new files or an SVN update from the repository on this server (I am the only one using this SVN repository). This will always reproduce this scenario successfully, but until very recently I had no problems at all checking in/out of SVN. But sometimes it just happens for no detectable reason at all it seems. So it seems like there is some issue with my Apache that leads it to have processes use up a lot of read/write upon certain triggers. I was wondering if anyone could help me uncover that issue. I killed that service but %wa and load average remain high, I also stopped mysqld and other services. It really only goes down once I stop httpd altogether, and even then I can't start it without finding remaining hanging httpd processes via "netstat -tulpn", killing those or doing "killall -9 httpd" and after waiting a while for it to cycle through all those then doing /etc/init.d/httpd start

I'm setting it up (accessing it from my browser as instructed) and I have the "Piwikinstallation" page open on step 3 (database set-up ) of 9. I don't know what to imput in the field "database server"... the default is the number 127.0.0.1 When I leave that input as is, and click "Next" leaving the gives the error: "Error when trying to connect to database server: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111" and changing that input to "localhost" gives me another error: "Error when trying to connect to database server:SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

The website hosted on this server is increasing its traffic every day and I am having some MySQL trouble so I tried to check the MySQL configuration with mysqltuner.pl and gave me the following messages: [!!] Switch to 64-bit OS - MySQL cannot currently use all of your RAM *** MySQL's maximum memory usage is dangerously high *** *** Add RAM before increasing MySQL buffer variables *** So my question is: can I survive with the 32 bit? Or I will have to install the 64 bit OS? Thanks.

  • My error with upgrading 4.0 to 4.2- What NOT to do...

    Last week, I was helping a client upgrade from the 2011.1.4.0 code to the newest 2011.1.4.2 code. We downloaded the 4.2 update from MOS, upload and unpacked it on both controllers, and upgraded one of the controllers in the cluster with no issues at all. As this was a brand-new system with no networking or pools made on it yet, there were not any resources to fail back and forth between the controllers. Each controller had it's own, private, management interface (igb0 and igb1) and that's it. So we took controller 1 as the passive controller and upgraded it first. The first controller came back up with no issues and was now on the 4.2 code. Great. We then did a takeover on controller 1, making it the active head (although there were no resources for it to take), and then proceeded to upgrade controller 2. Upon upgrading the second controller, we ran the health check with no issues. We then ran the update and it ran and rebooted normally. However, something strange then happened. It took longer than normal to come back up, and when it did, we got the "cluster controllers on different code" error message that one gets when the two controllers of a cluster are running different code. But we just upgraded the second controller to 4.2, so they should have been the same, right??? Going into the Maintenance-->System screen of controller 2, we saw something very strange. The "current version" was still on 4.0, and the 4.2 code was there but was in the "previous" state with the rollback icon, as if it was the OLDER code and not the newer code. I have never seen this happen before. I would have thought it was a bad 4.2 code file, but it worked just fine with controller 1, so I don't think that was it. Other than the fact the code did not update, there was nothing else going on with this system. It had no yellow lights, no errors in the Problems section, and no errors in any of the logs. It was just out of the box a few hours ago, and didn't even have a storage pool yet. So.... We deleted the 4.2 code, uploaded it from scratch, ran the health check, and ran the upgrade again. once again, it seemed to go great, rebooted, and came back up to the same issue, where it came to 4.0 instead of 4.2. See the picture below.... HERE IS WHERE I MADE A BIG MISTAKE.... I SHOULD have instantly called support and opened a Sev 2 ticket. They could have done a shared shell and gotten the correct Fishwork engineer to look at the files and the code and determine what file was messed up and fixed it. The system was up and working just fine, it was just on an older code version, not really a huge problem at all. Instead, I went ahead and clicked the "Rollback" icon, thinking that the system would rollback to the 4.2 code.   Ouch... What happened was that the system said, "Fine, I will delete the 4.0 code and boot to your 4.2 code"... Which was stupid on my part because something was wrong with the 4.2 code file here and the 4.0 was just fine.  So now the system could not boot at all, and the 4.0 code was completely missing from the system, and even a high-level Fishworks engineer could not help us. I had messed it up good. We could only get to the ILOM, and I had to re-image the system from scratch using a hard-to-get-and-use FishStick USB drive. These are tightly controlled and difficult to get, almost always handcuffed to an engineer who will drive out to re-image a system. This took another day of my client's time.  So.... If you see a "previous version" of your system code which is actually a version higher than the current version... DO NOT ROLL IT BACK.... It did not upgrade for a very good reason. In my case, after the system was re-imaged to a code level just 3 back, we once again tried the same 4.2 code update and it worked perfectly the first time and is now great and stable.  Lesson learned.  By the way, our buddy Ryan Matthews wanted to point out the best practice and supported way of performing an upgrade of an active/active ZFSSA, where both controllers are doing some of the work. These steps would not have helpped me for the above issue, but it's important to follow the correct proceedure when doing an upgrade. 1) Upload software to both controllers and wait for it to unpack 2) On controller "A" navigate to configuration/cluster and click "takeover" 3) Wait for controller "B" to finish restarting, then login to it, navigate to maintenance/system, and roll forward to the new software. 4) Wait for controller "B" to apply the update and finish rebooting 5) Login to controller "B", navigate to configuration/cluster and click "takeover" 6) Wait for controller "A" to finish restarting, then login to it, navigate to maintenance/system, and roll forward to the new software. 7) Wait for controller "A" to apply the update and finish rebooting 8) Login to controller "B", navigate to configuration/cluster and click "failback"

    After doing a reboot of Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS (after an apt-get dist-upgrade) my server load (on a 16GB) machine goes insane (around 80) for about 10 or 15 minutes The only things I can think of are these two processes: /usr/bin/mysql --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf --skip-column-names --batch -e ? select concat('select count(*) into @discard from `',?
