  • Resources for dashboard app backend design

    I am looking for examples of code/data/infrastructure design for a dashboard-style webapp. I am designing an interface for staff and faculty at a university to access departmental resources and be alerted of cyclical processes, events, deadlines, etc. Technologies I am working with: apache tomcat 6 and a mySQL database, JSP (including JSTL), bootstrap 3, and javascript/jquery. I have basic experience most of these technologies building smaller web apps but was hoping someone could direct me towards a book or other resource that discusses how to design the db architecture (and maybe how to template) for a dashboard, esp. for something like a notification systems. Any suggestions?

  • Filter a List via Another

    I have a requirement to filter a list of Clients based on if they haven't had any jobs booked in the last x months. In my code I have two lists, one is my Clients and the other is a filtered List of Jobs between today and x months ago and the idea is to filter Clients based on their id not appearing in the jobs list. I tried the following: filteredClients.Where(n => jobsToSearch.Count(j => j.Client == n.ClientID) == 0).ToList(); But I seem to get ALL clients regardless. I can easily do a foreach but this severly slows down the process. How can I filter the client list based on the job list effectively?

  • Scraping html WITHOUT uniquie identifiers using python

    I would like to design an algorithm using python that scrapes thousands of pages like this one and this one, gathers all the data and inserts it into a MySQL database. The script will be run on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to update the database of any new information added to each individual page. Ideally I would like a scraper that is easy to work with for table structured data but also data that does not have unique identifiers (ie. id and classes attributes). Which scraper add-on should I use? BeautifulSoup, Scrapy or Mechanize? Are there any particular tutorials/books I should be looking at for this desired result? In the long-run I will be implementing a mobile app that works with all this data through querying the database.

  • PDO Prepare statement not processing parameters

    I've exhausted all efforts at what appears to be a trivial problem, but gotten nowhere. There is a simple Prepare statement: $qry = $core->db->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '?'"); $qry->execute(array('[email protected]')); However, no rows are returned. Running the query with the parameters hardcoded into the query results in a successful selection of one row. I've tryed many different methods of doing the prepare, but even it this most simple form it isn't working. The PDO object is stored in a singleton called Core. PDO is using the mysql driver.

    Hi, i have three mysql tables: Table 456 id | binder | property1 1 | b | hello 2 | b | goodbye 3 | a | bonjour Table binder id | binder | tableid1 | tableid2 1 | a | 23 | 456 2 | b | 21 | 456 3 | c | 45 | 42 Table 21 id | property1 | data.. 1 | goodbye | data about goodbye.. 2 | ciao | data about ciao.. So first i want to select in binder the binder i need to get the tablesname where data is stored. So i need to select table by a fieldname in this case the fieldname is tableid1 and would have the content 21 so that i have to look in 21. AND it should be property 1 from table 456 and table 21 the same... i am using php and already tried with union and subquerys but it seems that i am to silly to prepare such query!

    i have a language table which is as a foreign key in the link table , The link can be in 3 languages meaning there will be 3 rows in the link table every time i enter the record . i am using jQuery tabs to enter the records in 3 languages . OK so that thing is that there will be three text boxes for every field in the table.link name field will have 3 text boxes, description will have 3 text boxes and so on. i am using LINK to SQL with VS2010. i will be creating link class with MetadataType so how will i handle for eg link name attribute 3 times

    I have a site set up using CakePHP and MySQL and I want to work on a test database without disrupting my live site in case something goes wrong. I have another busy site, but my test site runs off the live database which can be occasionally nerve wracking. What do I do if I change a table name in the test db and I want it changed in the live database? Or if I remove a record from the test database. Is there a way to diff the changes? How do I even merge those changes? How does this interfere with live user edits and things of that nature? Hopefully some of you working devs can share some insight!

    Hello, I encountered with some strange behavior of System.Data.Objects.CompiledQuery.Compile function - here is my code for compile simple query: private static readonly Func<DataContext, long, Product> productQuery = CompiledQuery.Compile((DataContext ctx, long id) => ctx.Entities.OfType<Data.Product>().Where(p => p.Id == id) .Select(p=>new Product{Id = p.Id}).SingleOrDefault()); where DataContext inherited from ObjectContext and Product is a projection of POCO Data.Product class. My data context in first run contains Data.Product {Id == 1L} and in second Data.Product {Id == 2L}. First using of compilled query productQuery(dataContext, 1L) works perfect - in result I have Product {Id == 1L} but second run productQuery(dataContext, 2L) always returns null, instead of context in second run contains single product with id == 2L. If I remove Where clause I will get correct product (with id == 2L). It seems that first id value caching while first run of productQuery, and therefore all further calls valid only when dataContext contains Data.Product {id==1L}. This issue can't be reproduced if I've used direct query instead of its precompiled version. Also, all tests I've performed on test mdf base using SQL Server 2008 express and Visual studio 2010 final from my ASP.net application.

I use this query and it seems to work very good: DELETE u1 From tx_table u1 JOIN tx_table u2 USING (email) WHERE u1.tstamp < u2.tstamp but I want to delete between a longer time. When I add 300 it seems to delete everything in my table: DELETE u1 From tx_table u1 JOIN tx_table u2 USING (email) WHERE u1.tstamp < u2.tstamp+300. How can I add 5 minutes to the tstamp with SQL?

    Hello All, I read on MySQL Performance Blog that when tables are large, it is better to scan full tables, instead of using indexes. I have a table with tens of millions of rows. When conducting queries, if I use no indexes, then queries are 24 times slower than with indexes. I know lot of things may cause this (e.g., are rows stored sequentially), but can you please give me some hints what might be happening? Or how I should start examining this issue? I want to understand when use of indexes is preferred and when it's not Thanks

    Hi, I have made a leaderboard table on my site, which returns the users in the MySQL database with the highest scores (score is a separate field). The fields in the leaderboard table are 'rank' 'username' and 'score'. I would like to link each username in the table to it's own profile page. The profile pages are in the format /profile.php?user=$username. How would I go about adding an <a href> within the table (which is echoed in php): echo '<tr><td>' .$a. '</td><td><a href="profile.php?user=' .$row['username']. '">' .$row['username']. '</a></td><td>'.$row['count'].'</td></tr>'; I've tried the above, but it doesn't seem to work. It shows the usernames, but they don't have any hyperlinks. Thanks

  • Is this SQL select code following good practice?

    I am using sqlite and will port to mysql (5) later. I wanted to know if I am doing something I shouldnt be doing. I tried purposely to design so I'll compare to 0 instead of 1 (I changed hasApproved to NotApproved to do this, not a big deal and I haven't written any code). I was told I never need to write a subquery but I do here. My Votes table is just id, ip, postid (I don't think I can write that subquery as a join instead?) and that's pretty much all that is on my mind. Naming conventions I don't really care about since the tables are created via reflection and is all over the place. select id, name, body, upvotes, downvotes, (select 1 from UpVotes where IPAddr=? AND post=Post.id) as myup, (select 1 from DownVotes where IPAddr=@0 AND post=Post.id) as mydown from Post where flag = '0' limit ?, ?"

    With a DataContext and a blank file-based database that already exists, is it possible to write the Data Context classes (i.e. the ones I added to the designer) to create the db schema? With a data context I only see the abilities to either: create a new database file and have its structure created at the same time, or to populate data into an existing database having preexisting schema. I'm looking for a hybrid solution between those two worlds. Update 1: My proof that a preexisting db is not compatible with the Data Context CreateDatabase() operation is this error Database 'C:...\App_Data\IntermediateData.mdf' already exists.     I am developing a php/mysql driven facebook game. I am stuck on an element the table design. When a user completes a task I want to trigger any number of events. I was thinking of something like so: tbl_events *event_id - serogate primary ID *task_id - foreign ID of the task just completed *event_type - what type of event e.g is it a facebook stream publish or a message to the user or does it unlock a new element of the game? *event_param - this is where it gets tricky... the event parameter is a problem for two reasons, 1) it will contain different foreign ids... dependent on the event_type and thus it will not be possible to join to x table. Meaning I would have to call two queries. 2) Most events require a single id or text, however some events require multiple parameters - like the facebook stream publish.

    Hello. In looking through samples I have seen a number of examples where it is possible to present data within a wpf applicaiton by binding to collections. However I was wondering is it possible to write to a collection from an applicaiton. Say for example i have 2 or more fields such as names and I wanted to have hte ability to add up to three names in my application ( all stored in memory). Will collections serve this purpose. In the past with asp.net I have done this by creating data tables and storing values on the fly or during the session. I am trying to learn WPF and I was wondering if collections work in the same fashion? If so could you please post an example or point me to references that show examples of this?     the situation: a user on the page in question selects a category from a dropdown which then dynamically populates all the users of that category in a second dropdown beside it. all the data is being retrieved using LinqtoSQL and i was wondering if this can be done a) using html.dropdownlist in a strongly typed view? b) using jquery to trigger the ajax request on selected index change instead of a 'populate' button trigger? sorry i dont have code as what i was trying really wasnt working at all.
