  • Does an open source project need a news group?

    I open-sourced a tool I created to scratch an itch. From the downloads for the installer on the project page I can see I'm not the only one interested. About 5 people seem to have upgraded from the previous version. But I know next to nothing about them. Do I need a news group? A mailing list? Or how would you start to build a (little) community?

    I am trying really hard to make a sliding frame containing widgets in tkinter in python. There is this frame inside a big window with different widgets. And as soon as i click on the next button on that frame the frame should slowly slide towards the left and vanish ultimately. As soon as it vanishes, i want new frame with widgets to come sliding towards right. What should i do? Anticipating your suggestions and ideas.

  • large databases in sqlite - file size considerations?

    I'm using a sqlite db which is very convenient and seems to meet all of my needs at this point. Currently my db size is <50MB, but I now need to add a new table which will store large text blobs, which will cause the db to reach up to 5GB within the next year. Would sqlite be able to deal with a 5GB db size? Any caveats to that, compared with say mysql?

    I’m using the jQuery toggle function for my navigation. By default the Authors toggle is visible, the Archives toggle is closed. http://jsfiddle.net/TeDFs/4/ My problem is that when the users switches to another page the toggles reset themselves. For example, when the user closes the Authors toggle and opens the Archive toggle and then navigates to another page the default settings are loaded. I read that it’s possible to store the settings via cookies but I’m absolutely new to jQuery and it would be great if somebody could help me out!     In my app a user clicks a link to another page. I'd like to track that in Omniture with a custom event, so I've bound the omniture s.t() event to the click event. How can I make certain the event fires before the next page is requested? I've considered event.preventDefault() on the click event of the link, but I actually want the original event to occur, just not immediately.

  • [PowerShell] Input encoding

    Hi! I need to get output of native application under PowerShell. The problem is, output is encoded with UTF-8 (no BOM), which PowerShell does not recognize and just converts those funky UTF chars directly into Unicode. I've found PowerShell has $OutputEncoding variable, but it does not seem to affect input data. Good ol' iconv is of no help either, since this unnecessary UTF8-as-if-ASCII = Unicode conversion takes place before the next pipeline member acquires data.

  • RESTful resource not found. 404 or 204? Jersey returns 204 on null being returned from handler.

    If you are looking for /Resource/Id and that resource does not exist, I had always though that 404 was the appropriate response. However, when returning "null" from a Jersey handler, I get back a "204 No Content". I can likely work with either one, but am curious to others thoughts on this. To answer my own next question. To get jersey to return 404 you must throw an exception. if (a == null) throw new WebApplicationException(404);

  • javascript: how to delay submitting data when several checkboxes clicked in short time interval?

    I have an array of checkboxes in a complex dynamic-html form. Whenever a user clicks one checkbox, a fairly expensive query is generated and submitted to a remote server. I want to delay this submit action depending on the users next action. If the user clicks several checkboxes quickly, all of the first clicks should be discarded, only the last one is processed and eventually submitted after 1 second or so. maybe this is a common problem but I have never worked with timeouts before.

    In Latex, I've created a new command 'changedtext' to mark specifics parts in my document and make it appear blue: \newcommand{\changedtext}[1]{\textcolor{blue}{#1} } Is there any easy way to alter the command to have change bars appear next to the text in the resulting PDF? If not possible, any other suggestion for a visual markup (other than change bars) that would be clear on a black & white printout would be useful as well.
