• Peer code review for full application

  My sincerest apologies if this is the wrong place to post something like this, but this seemed like the best fit. I was wondering if there are any websites or resources for a full site peer code review. I'm new to Ruby specifically and want to make sure that my logic is following the overall best standards. I've pieced together multiple different tutorials and I feel like while my understanding is getting better, it'd be great if the overall structure of such an application could be critiqued, and for someone that doesn't really know another Ruby developer - I find that I've run into a roadblock and don't want to develop bad habits now.

• Oculus Rift with Antichamber

  Antichamber runs great on linux (steam version). But it is not playable with the Oculus Rift at this point. The issues are: 1) no headtracking 2) graphics are not being split and distorted by Oculus SDK My current plan is to use LD_PRELOAD to add the functionality, this seems to be the linux equivalent of DLL injection. Antichamber appears to be using SDL, I'm hoping this can be configured to use the headtracking data as a joystick and apply the graphics distortion, but I am not sure which functions I should be looking for. Is there a simpler way of getting these issues resolved? Is SDL the right choice here? Would appreciate any information on how the Unreal Engine 3 works under linux; and library injection too.

  Last year I started working with a team on our first major web project (We, the Pixels). I believe the idea is very solid, but it has a hard requirement for a group of people being on the site for the randomly scheduled events. We are having problems getting people to come and stay for these events. What is the proper marketing approach needed to bring people to the site for these events? We have recently done the following in an attempt to fix the problem: Added email notification of new events being created Added privileges based on rank Added text throughout the site encouraging setting up the events in the future so other users can have time see that it exists. Gotten involved in with other communities that would find the site interesting in order to promote (market) the site Advertised using Google Adwords Is there an standard marketing approach for such a case as this?

• Choosing the right version control system for .NET projects [closed]

  I'm getting ready for my first "bigger" .NET project (ASP.NET MVC 3/4) on which I'm going to lead another 2 programmers and right now I'm choosing the right version control system for the job (plus I'm gonna use it for my future development too). My problem is that I did't use any version control system before, so I would like it to have as fast learning curve and intuitive merging as possible. So far I quickly looked at VisualSVN (I like the Visual Studio integration in it), but I'm reading everywhere how Git is awesome and dunno which one to choose (not limited to these two).. Maybe I'm ovethinking this but I like when everything goes smoothly:) I'd like to hear some opinions from people who used multiple version control systems (preferably on VS projects) what do you think is the less complicated and effective version control system for such a use (one to 5 man projects)?

• Copy and Paste problems in Visual Studio 2010

  tweetmeme_source = 'alpascual';After installing Visual Studio 2010 I started having problems with Copy and Paste. Trying to find out how many users are being affected by this bug. The use case to reproduce the bug, just using VS2010 for a few minutes and eventually doing Control C and Control V to copy lines of code does not work. Using the menu to do the copy and paste also wont work. Looks like a problem in the clipboard itself IMHO. The set up of my computer. • Making a collision detection system

  I'm very new to game development (just started 3 months ago) and I've learning through creating a game engine. It's located here. In terms of collision, I know only brutefoce detection, in which case, the game slows down if there are a number of objects. So my question is How should I program the collisions? I want them to happen automatically for every object and call the object's collision(GObject other) method on each collision. Are there any new algorithms which can make this fast? If so, can anybody6 sh6ed some light on this topic? And I think of making it like the game maker Thanks

• Is acousting fingerprinting too broad for one audio file only?

  So we were looking for some topics related to audio analysis and found acoustic fingerprinting. As it is, it seems like the most famous application for it is for identification of music. Enter our manager, who requested us to research and possible find an algorithm or existing code that we can use for this very simple approach (like it's easy, source codes don't show up like mushrooms): Always-on app for listening Compare the audio patterns to a single audio file (assume sound is a simple beep) If beep is detected, send notification to server With a flow this simple, do you think acousting fingerprinting is a broad approach to use? Should we stop and take another approach? Where to best start? • iOS build machine setup: problem with certificates

  some background: work with multiple team mates each work on our own MBP I'm setting a build machine that we can git push to in order to generate a build (aim to allow anyone to push to the build machine and then generate an archive, upload to testflight and send on its way) problem: getting my apple developer certificates on the build machine. I installed Lion, XCode, etc and I signed into my developer account through Xcode organizer, provisioning profiles download,etc. but beside each one it says: valid signing identity not found I also download my certificate from the developer.apple.com page, imported it into keychain, etc but no luck. Anyone else have a similar issue? Or maybe hints to fix? Thanks

I am beginning to wonder if this is wise or if I had maybe better consider LLC or something. I am working alone and generally have a good relationship with my clients. • Unity won't load in Ubuntu 12.10

  I just upgraded Ubuntu last night to 12.10 from 12.04. When I rebooted like it asked, everything seemed fine, except one of my monitors had a white screen, and I could not use it. After some tweaking in the AMD Catalyst center, I got it to work, but now Unity wont load, and the bar up top wont load either. I am in suspicion that it a problem with Compiz, but might be completely wrong. Any tips on getting this to work? I am also kind of new at Linux, but I could open a terminal and get Opera open for web browsing, but it is really choppy and slow.

• dnsmasq not running

  i installed ubuntu 12.04 on a netbook with 16GB SSD. To keep the installation small i used the mini.iso i got from here. Everything worked fine, but i noticed that dnsmasq does not get started by NetworkManager. On a different machine i installed 12.04 from a regular iso and netstat shows dnsmasq running and listening on port 53. NetworkManager.conf look identically on both systems. The line dns=dnsmasq is present. Although i do not really need dnsmasq - name resolution works fine without - i would like to know the reason why dnsmasq is running on one system, but does not run on the other and how i could adjust this behavior.   In linux everything is considered as file, Now if I want to find only folders/directories not the files then how can i do that? I am getting all the modified files with the following command. find /Users/ghanshyam -type f -mmin -5 -print My goal is to generate the log file with all the modified/access folders. Here two options are available. create a module and call every time when a folder is modified (this one is bit difficult because I need to check particular event) create a cron task that will run after every 5 minutes. cron task will execute shell script and generate the log entries with the modified folders. Do you have any other option to do this task ?

• Applying for MS CS with an un-related Bachelor's Degree [closed]

  I received a BA in Economics and went to work and started developing a passion for programming while on the job. This lead to learning more and more about computer science in general. I want to go for a Masters in Computer Science. I'm taking courses at the local college to get some of the undergrad CS courses out of the way (Data Structures etc.). However I'm not sure what to focus on for my application. Should I take the GRE for CS? A lot of college application procedures recommend it if you didn't go to undergrad for CS. Should I try to improve my GRE general test? I took it a month after college ended and got mediocre scores, so I could definitely study a bit harder and improve my scores. Anything else that's necessary? My current job is not exactly in a related field, but I do get to do some programming/coding.

  Back in March 2011 i started the following post: How to design a leaderboard? Now my quiz game have been out for approximately a year and sold pretty decently. I am working on to update the game design and is again looking into the leaderboard design to make it better as i am not happy with it. Currently i rate players on number of correct answers, which is not good as it does not consider things like number of games, difficulty levels etc. I also have "extended" stats behind the UITableView (Leaderboard). A player can play based on three levels of difficulty: hard, medium or easy Difficulty levels can be mixed between players in a game Each game can be one to six players, so there can be single games or duels Between 2 and 30 questions per game As i am considering integrating Game Center Leaderboard i need to design a better rating system so i would like to ask for some ideas how to do the rating based on the above. I am thinking about how much a point would be worth and what it includes.

When it asked me what type of file system, I selected FAT but there was a checkbox below that said "Encrypt" and I accidently checked it and continue. I had no choice but to come up with a passphrase for it, and so I did, thinking I was able to remove that encryption. But after that at Disk Utility I thought I would find a "Remove Encryption" button or something like that but I didn't. • 13.10 Cursor Disappearing?

  Upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 on my Ideapad Yoga yesterday, hoping it might have fixes for a couple of issues I've been having. While it seems to have made the touchscreen more usable, it has made the problem with my trackpad even worse :( In 13.04 and below, the cursor occasionally (maybe once or twice a day) would completely stop working and to get it working again I would run sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse and it would be happy again, now every hour or so, my cursor just goes invisible, you can tell its still there as you can hover over things and they will respond. Again running sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse works but it's getting a little annoying now its so frequent! Does anyone have any suggestions on things to try? :( Thanks in advance!

  I've started learning bash scripting by using this guide: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/abs-guide.pdf However I got stuck at the first script: cd /var/log cat /dev/null > messages cat /dev/null > wtmp echo "Log files cleaned up." What do lines 2 and 3 do in Ubuntu (I understand cat)? Is it only for other Linux distributions? After running this script as root, the output I get is Log files cleaned up. But /var/log still contains all the files.
