• Development/runtime Licensing mechanism for a C# class library?

  I'm developing a .Net class library (a data provider) and I'm starting to think about how I would handle licensing the library to prospective purchasers. By licensing, I mean the mechanics of trying to prevent my library from being used by those who haven't purchased it, not the software license (i.e., Apache, Gnu, etc). I've never dealt with licensing, and in the past, I've always developed apps, not libraries. I don't want to make things difficult for my customers; know it is not possible to make it ironclad. Just some mechanism that gives me decent protection without making the customer jump through hoops or gnash their teeth. I think the mechanism would check for a valid license when the class is being used in development mode, and not in runtime mode (when the customer's software is released to their customers). I think libraries are typically sold per developer, but I'm not sure how that could be accomplished without making the mechanism odious for my customers; maybe that gets left to the honor system. I Googled this and found many approaches. Ideally, I'd like to do something that is generally accepted and common, the "right" way class libraries are licensed, if that exists, rather than making my customers deal with yet another license mechanism. A firm push in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

• Design PDF template and populate data at runtime using java,xml etc..

  well i have been looking for a java based PDF solutions...we dont have a clean way i guess-still.. all solutions are primitive and kind of workarounds... No easy solution for this requirement - 1. Designing a PDF template using a IDE (eg. Livecycle designer ..which is not free) 2. Then at runtime using java, populate data into this PDF template...either using xml or other datasources... such a simple requirement and NONE has a good "open-source and free" solution yet ! Is anyone aware of any ? I have been searching for since 3-4 years now..for a clean way out... Eclipse BIRT comes close.. but does not handle Barcode elements ..OOB. Jasper - ireport is also good but that tool does not have a table concept and is kind of annoying ! Also barcode support is not good. XSL-FO has not free IDE for design . Looking for a better answer .. got one ?

  I may be working on mission impossible here, but I seem to be getting close. I want to extend a ASP.NET control, and I want my code to be unit testable. Also, I'd like to be able to fake behaviors of a real Label (namely things like ID generation, etc), which a real Label can't do in an nUnit host. Here a working example that makes assertions on something that depends on a real base class and something that doesn't-- in a more realistic unit test, the test would depend on both --i.e. an ID existing and some custom behavior. • How do I integrate GUI elements from different classes at runtime?

  I'm trying to "future-proof" an application that I'm writing by splitting out those elements that are likely to change over time. In my application I need to be able to adapt to changes in the output format (e.g. today I output to a CSV file, in the future I may need to output directly to a SQL Server database, or to a web service, etc.). I'm handling this by defining an abstract class ("OutputProvider") that I will subclass for each individual case. The one aspect of this that has me stumped is how to provide a configuration GUI that is specific to each concrete class. I have a settings dialog with a tab for output configuration. On that tab I intend to provide a drop-down to select the provider and a JPanel beneath it to hold the contents of the provider-specific GUI. How do I get the right GUI in that panel at runtime and have it behave correctly with respect to events? Also, a bonus would be if there was a way to do this such that in order to add support for new providers I could simply provide a new jar or class file to be dropped in a specific folder and the application could pick that up at startup. I'm using NetBeans and Swing.

• C# How to create various objects at runtime that can hold strongly typed data?

  Is it possible to create objects at runtime without having to have hard coded class definitions, then populate properties with primitives or even strongly typed data types? For example: Lets say I want to an XML config file that could hold configuration values for connecting to various systems in an SOA application. In C# I read in these values, but for each system the properties are different (e.g: SQL might have a connection string, while SharePoint might need a username + password + domain + url, while yet an smtp server would need username + password + port + url) So instead of creating static classes as follows public class SharePointConfiguration or public class SQLConfiguration, then have each class with custom properties (this is cumbersome) Is there not a more preferred way to achieve this, without using 1990's methods, in otherwords it would still be nice to have intellisense and code completion and named properties. Since this collection of properties (object) would be passed within the class and possible to other classes from function to function I am also wondering where this class definition would get defined if its all happening at run time. Any recommendations, and hope the question was clear enough. Would like to use language features, not hacks. Thank you.

  Using VS2010 under windows 32 or 64 bit. Our C# app calls a 3rd party DLL (managed) that interfaces to an unmanaged DLL. The 3rd party DLL API appears identical in 32 or 64 bit although underneath it links to a 32 or 64 bit unmanaged DLL. We want our C# app to run on either 32 or 64 bit OS, ideally it will auto detect the OS and load the appropriate 32rd party DLL - via a simple factory class which tests the Enviroment. So the neatest solution would be a runtime folder containing: OurApp.exe 3rdParty32.DLL 3rdPartyUnmanaged32.DLL 3rdParty64.DLL 3rdPartyUnmanaged64.DLL However, the interface for the managed 3rdParty 32 and 64 dll is identical so both cannot be referenced within the same VS2010 project: when adding the second the warning triangle is shown and it does not get referenced. Is my only answer to create two extra library DLL projects to reference the 3rdParty 32 and 64 Dlls? So I would end up with this project arrangement: Project 1: Builds OurApp.exe, dynamically creates an object for project2 or project3. Project 2: Builds OurApp32.DLL which references 3rdParty32.dll Project 3: Builds OurApp64.DLL which references 3rdParty64.dll

  Need help. I am trying to automate error notifications to be sent in mailers. For that I am querying the sysssislog table. I have pasted an "Execute SQl task" on the package event handler "On error". For testing purpose, I am deliberately trying to load duplicate keys in a table which consists of a Primary key column(so as to get an error). But instead of having just one error, "Violation of primary key constraint", SSIS records 3 in the table. PFA the screenshot as well.   Hi all, I'm building my program with -pedantic flag, which causes an extra ';' error (because of a third-party header using a few macros inconsistently; the error is not shown when -pedantic is off). I don't really feel like turning -pedantic off, and neither do I want to edit the header. Is there any way to suppress this exact error? Like a -Wno-annoying-semicolon-error compiler switch or something?

• node.js and jsdom - no way to detect that an http 500 error was returned?

  I'm using jsdom with node.js and I'm trying to get it to provide me with some indication that an http error has occurred. I've set up a test server that simply returns an http 500 header for all requests, but when I attempt to load it with jsdom, jsdom doesn't throw any error and doesn't seem to provide me with any information that would identify that an http 500 error was returned. What's the best way to detect an http 500 error?

• Is there a way to bypass the jQuery error handler?

  If my Ajax call returns a successful result, but while processing the result I cause an exception, the error handler fires. This seems counter intuitive to me as I think the error handler should only fire when an error occurs as a result of making the Ajax call or via a server-side error. I am trying to use the Ajax function in a unit test so I would like to tell the difference between the two different failure scenarios.

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

  Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck.   Hi all, I´m trying to inspect the types in a silverlight 4 assembly from a .NET 3.5 application. I have loaded the silverlight assembly with a Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoadFrom sentence. contractsAssembly = Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoadFrom(contractsAssemblyPath); When the .NET application tries to perform a call to GetTypes(), it throws a ReflectionTypeLoadException. Type[] types = contractsAssembly.GetTypes(); The LoaderExceptions property in the ReflectionTypeLoadException contains a list of exceptions, all of them regarding a problem loading a type that has serialization attributes. Type 'XXXX' in assembly 'YYYY' has method 'OnSerializing' with an incorrect signature for the serialization attribute that it is decorated with.   I'm running CentOS 5, and am trying to get a django application working with mod_wsgi. I'm using .wsgi settings I got working on Ubuntu.   I am trying to make a image viewer/album creator in visual studio, wpf. The image paths for each album is stored in an xml document which i bind to to show the images from each album in a listbox. The problem is when i add a image or an album at runtime and write it to the xml document. I can't seem to make the bindings to the xml document update so they show the new images and albums aswell. Calling Refresh() on the XmlDataProvider doesn't change anything. I don't wish to redo the binding of the XmlDataProvider, just make it read from the same source again.
