• science.js’s loess() output is identical to input

  Rendered project available here. The line is supposed to be a trend line (as rendered with LOESS), but it merely follows each data point instead. I am no stats wonk, so maybe it makes sense that a LOESS function’s output would match the input as seen in the above example, but it strikes me as being wrong. • Jquery.form plugin and jquery.validation and it's submitHandler not working correctly... please help

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to. • Hiding a dropdown menu without it flashing with prototype

  I have a number of dropdowns and divs that are hidden when the page loads and can be toggled with a click or mouseover, but some of them flash b/c the javascript does not run in time. I have their display initially set to block and then I use javascript/prototype to find the element and hide it. I have tried loading these "hider" functions using dom:loaded but there is still flashing. This is an example of a dropdown prototype initialization funtion. • Jquery droppable live disabling/enabling

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains.   Google Spreadsheets currently does not support the standard function TDIST - i.e. the Student's t-distribution. This function is critical for calculating p-values. It seems that this is related to the fact that no integral-using functions (AFAICT) are implemented either. However, Google Docs allows people to add and publish their own scripts, in JavaScript. So ideally we should have something like: function tdist(t_value, degrees_of_freedom, two_tailed [defaults true]) {...} Anyone know of either an extant implementation of this (my google-fu has not turned up one, but may be weaker than yours) or a good idea for how to do it? I'd like to publish this together with some other useful functions that are currently calculable but a bit of a pain (like Student's t-test itself). Thanks!

  I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious! • Throwing exceptions as well as catching exceptions?

  I was wondering how Java takes the following scenario public static void main(String[] args) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException, CoordinateException, MissionException, SQLException, ParserConfigurationException { try { doSomething(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } In the above code, I am declaring the main function to throw many different exceptions, but inside the function, I am catching the generic Exception. I am wondering how java takes this internally? I.e., say doSomething() throws an IndexOutOfBounds exception, will the e.printStackTrace() get called in the last catch (Exception e) {...} block? I know if an exception not declared in the throws area of the function gets thrown, the try/catch will handle it, but what about exceptions mentioned in the declaration?

Argh! }); Vim seems to insist on automatically indenting the closing brace shown in the second case there. It does the same if I re-indent the whole file. How do I get it to automatically indent using the more standard JS indenting style seen in the first case?

• How to parse a string of boolean logic in PHP

  I'm building a PHP class with a private member function that returns a string value such as: 'true && true || false' to a public member function. (This string is the result of some regex matching and property lookups.) What I'd like to do is have PHP parse the returned logic and have the aforementioned public function return whether the boolean result of the parsed logic is true or false. I tried eval(), but I get no output at all. I tried typecasting the boolean returns...but there's no way to typecast operators...hehe Any ideas? (Let me know if you need more information.)

  I am having a problem with GameQuery (jQuery) collision detection Tthey just never seem to fire?!? I have checked all the .arrow's exist and the same for the .bot's but it just never seems to call the function I have the below code in my main callback: $(".bot").each(function(){ $(this).collision(".arrow").each(function(){ alert("Test"); }); }); Do you have any idea why this would just simply be doing nothing?
