  • Powershell script to delete secondary SMTP addresses of Exchange 2010 Mail Contacts

    - by Zero Subnet
I have a few thousand Exchange 2010 Mail Contacts who get erroneously assigned internal SMTP addresses by the default recipient policy. I'm trying to use the following command to delete these addresses (keeping the primary SMTP) and disabling the automatic update from recipient policy so the SMTP addresses don't get recreated again. Get-MailContact -OrganizationalUnit "domain.local/OU" -Filter {EmailAddresses -like *@domain.local -and name -notlike "ExchangeUM*"} -ResultSize unlimited -IgnoreDefaultScope | foreach {$contact = $_; $email = $contact.emailaddresses; $email | foreach {if ($_.smtpaddress -like *@domain.local) {$address = $_.smtpaddress; write-host "Removing address" $address "from Contact" $contact.name; Set-Mailcontact -Identity $contact.identity -EmailAddresses @{Remove=$address}; $contact | set-mailcontact -emailaddresspolicyenabled $false} }} I'm getting the following error though: You must provide a value expression on the right-hand side of the '-like' operator. At line:1 char:312 + Get-MailContact -OrganizationalUnit "domain.local/testou" -Filter {EmailAddresses -like "@domain.local" -and name -notlike "ExchangeUM"} -ResultSize unlimited -IgnoreDefaultScope | foreach {$contact = $; $ email = $contact.emailaddresses; $email | foreach {if ($.smtpaddress -like <<<< *@domain.local) {$address = $_.smt paddress; write-host "Removing address" $address "from Contact" $contact.name; Set-Mailcontact -Identity $contact.ident ity -EmailAddresses @{Remove=$address}; $contact }} + CategoryInfo : ParserError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ExpectedValueExpression Any help as to how to fix this?

  • Windows 7 Index Search does not work in Google Drive folder

    - by Joel
I recently installed Google Drive on my Windows 7 laptop and began syncing all my files a few days ago. All was well until I needed to search for some documents in my local copy of Google Drive using Windows 7 Search feature. Windows did not return any results at all. Weirdly, when I turned off Windows indexing for that folder, it began returning results. I don't mind using windows search w/o the index but sometimes it takes too long to search (especially for keywords inside documents like Word and Excel). It's driving me nuts to the point where I have given up on Windows Search and switched to Google Drive's online search to look for files (not as convenient as I still have to go back go google drive in Windows to locate the folder). Any help appreciated!

  • Powershell: Conditionally changing objects in the pipeline

    - by axk
I'm converting a CSV to SQL inserts and there's a null-able text column which I need to quote in case it is not NULL. I would write something like the following for the conversion: Import-Csv data.csv | foreach { "INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME (COL1,COL2) VALUES ($($_.COL1),$($_.COL2));" >> inserts.sql } But I can't figure out how to add an additional tier into the pipeline to look if COL2 is not equal to 'NULL' and to quote it in such cases. How do I achieve such behavior?

  • Reinstall Windows on mass computers

    - by user791022
At work there are about 40 DELL PC's - half of them are Windows Vista and other half are Windows 7. Some of the DELL PC's are 220s and 230s model. If I want to re-install Windows then I can use a Recovery/Recovery disk on any Dell PC's (220s or 230s). It take too long to complete the setup, for example - after re installing the Windows then I need to install the drivers, update windows, install IE9, create default users account and so on. It take about 3 hour to complete setup! I am looking for a solution Where I can create an Image of windows (with driver and completed setup) and then I use same Image it on any PC's at work? If one of the PC need reinstalling - I would like to reinstall via network (LAN) by grabbing the Image? Is there something that before booting into windows - computer check something via network which can download the Image?

  • PowerShell script halts execution when Windows XP PC is locked

    - by jshin47
    I have the following script that does a continuous ping and reports failures. It works fine, except the loop apparently "suspends" when the computer is locked. I have confirmed this by starting the script, immediately locking the PC, waiting 10 minutes, and seeing how many pings have occurred. It is nowhere near the expected number. What could be the culprit? Write-Host "Entering monitoring loop..." -Background DarkRed $ping = new-object System.Net.NetworkInformation.Ping $count_up = 0 $count_dn = 0 $count_dd = 0 while ($true) { $result = $ping.send("10.1.1.1") if ($result.Status -eq "Success") { $count_up++ $count_dd = 0 } else { $count_dn++ $count_dd++ $this_date = Get-Date Write-Host "VPN ping failed at time " $this_date -Background Magenta if ($count_dd -gt 3) { Write-Host "***VPN is Down***" `a send_mail_notification("VPN is Down", "") } } if ($Host.UI.RawUI.KeyAvailable -and ("q" -eq $Host.UI.RawUI.ReadKey("IncludeKeyUp,NoEcho").Character)) { Write-Host "Exiting monitoring loop..." -Background DarkRed break; } Start-Sleep -m 250 } $total = $count_up + $count_dn $uptime = 100 * $count_up / $total Write-Host $count_up " out of " $total " pings for a " $uptime "% uptime."

  • Windows 8 not booting from DVD while trying to install in a Ubuntu 14.04 system

    - by Tom
Currently my system runs on Ubuntu 14.04. Yesterday, I deleted and formatted the partition(C drive) as NTFS in which Windows 7 was installed because Windows 7 was not booting for more than a week. I have a Windows 8 disk and it was able to boot from that disk when there was Windows 7 on my system. After the formatting of C drive yesterday, I tried to install Windows 8 by booting from the disk. Unfortunately, this time no booting happened from the disk. So I pressed F2 during the system start up and checked Boot Device Priority, Optical Drive has the first priority there. So why Windows 8 didn't boot from the disk ? I need to install Windows 8 too in my system without doing any damage to Ubuntu 14.04. How can I do it ?

  • Windows Search Indexing SSD

    - by user654628
I just bought a new SSD (Vertex4 from OCZ, 256G) and installed Windows 8 with it on my laptop. I am not using an external hard drive to keep extra data (paging, temp files etc) because I am using a laptop and do not want to carry it around with me. My question is, if I disable Windows indexer (Windows Search service), does Windows still search files under the search (Windows 7 Start menu search/Metro UI Windows 8 search)? Since the indexer was meant to search for files by indexing them, does this mean that Windows will not search new files? Thanks in advance.

  • Will Windows 7 setup overwrite Windows 8 and Ubuntu boot records?

    - by Jens
I have Windows 8 and Ubuntu installed, both an the same physical hd (2 partitions). Windows 8 was installed after a format, Ubuntu afterwards. I used EasyBCD to setup the boot records and the boot menu order. I want to install Windows 7 as a third operating system and just add its boot record with EasyBCD. Will there be any unwanted behavior when I install it on a third partition? I already have 100 GB of unallocated space on the disk, though have not yet made the partition. I red on this site that I should install the oldest OS first, but than I would have to do a format and start again from scratch (which I clearly do not want to do). edit: On this site, the opposite is claimed, saying it's also possible to install Windows 7 after Windows 8. However, it will restore a Windows 7 boot menu instead one of Windows 8.

  • powershell indentation

    - by Steve B
I'm writing a large script that deploys an application. This script is based on several nested functions call. Is there any way to "ident" the output based on the depth ? For example, I have : function myFn() { Write-Host "Start of myfn" myFnNested() Write-Host "End of myfn" } function myFnNested() { Write-Host "Start of myFnNested" Write-Host "End of myFnNested" } Write-Host "Start of myscript" Write-Host "End of myscript" The output of the script will be : Start of myscript Start of myfn Start of myfnNested End of myFnNested End of myFn End of myscript What I want to achieve is this output : Start of myscript Start of myfn Start of myfnNested End of myFnNested End of myFn End of myscript As I don't want to hardly code the number of spaces (since I does not know the depth level in complex script), how can I simply reach my goal ? Maybe something like this ? function myFn() { Indent() Write-Host "Start of myfn" myFnNested() Write-Host "End of myfn" UnIndent() } function myFnNested() { Indent() Write-Host "Start of myFnNested" Write-Host "End of myFnNested" UnIndent() } Write-Host "Start of myscript" Write-Host "End of myscript"

  • Powershell enters foreach loop with null object

    - by SteB
I'm listing all backups in a given directory: $backups = Get-ChildItem -Path $zipFilepath | Where-Object {($_.lastwritetime -lt (Get-Date).addDays(-7)) -and (-not $_.PSIsContainer) -and ($_.Name -like "backup*")} If I set it to deliberately return no files (.addDays(-600) then the following prints "Empty" (as expected): if (!$backups) { "Empty" } If I try to list the names with an empty $backups variable: foreach ($file in $backups) { $file.FullName; } I get nothing (as expected), if I change this to: "test"+ $file.FullName; then I get a single "test" under the "Empty". How is this possible if $backups is empty?

  • Zipping only files using powershell

    - by SteB
    I'm trying to zip all the files in a single directory to a different folder as part of a simple backup routine. The code runs ok but doesn't produce a zip file: $srcdir = "H:\Backup" $filename = "test.zip" $destpath = "K:\" $zip_file = (new-object -com shell.application).namespace($destpath + "\"+ $filename) $destination = (new-object -com shell.application).namespace($destpath) $files = Get-ChildItem -Path $srcdir foreach ($file in $files) { $file.FullName; if ($file.Attributes -cne "Directory") { $destination.CopyHere($file, 0x14); } } Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

  • Why does this PowerShell script hang?

    - by jshin47
Today I had to use Start-Sleep many times so I thought I would create a shortcut function for it, sleep($time). However, whenever I entered the function it never exits! It must be an issue with either the data type for the argument for Start-Sleep or the way I am declaring the function. Instead of posting the whole script, I've posted this useless one that would make a familiar beep pattern if it worked: function beep { Write-Host `a } function sleep { param([int]$time) Start-Sleep -m $time } beep sleep(300) beep sleep(200) beep sleep(50) beep sleep(300) beep sleep(450) beep sleep(200) beep

  • Using Powershell to set user permissions in Reporting Services

    - by slugster
I'm asking this because i'm a n00b when it comes to Powershell. How do i use Powershell to add a particular domain user or group to a specific reporting role in SSRS2005 (say the Content Manager or Browser role)? Is there a simple one or two line script to achieve it? Thanks! Note: this is definately programming related (not server admin), but i am also going to ask this on SF.

  • Run R script from Powershell

    - by Derek
Hi, In old DOS script, I can run an R script with the following syntax: Rterm.exe --quiet --slave --vanilla < "C:\some_script.R" However, Powershell seems to have reserved "<" for future expansion. I am wondering if there is a direct way to run R script within another powershell script. Thanks

  • Powershell profile "on exit" event?

    - by poke
I'm looking for a way to automatically do some clean up tasks when the PowerShell session quits. So for example in my profile file I start a process which needs to run in the background for quite a lot of tasks and I would like to automatically close that process when I close the console. Is there some function the PowerShell automatically calls when closing the session as it does with prompt when displaying the prompt?
