  • How to split the chance to display SWFs evenly among banner collection?

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: I am working on The ausdcf.org to try adding several banner ads in swf format to the top. Everything starts to work, but I've got several questions that need your help: The client chose not to go with Google AdManager, but prefer a "minimal approach" to do this task. What I am trying to do is sort of "mimicking" the way Google AdManager does for banners, that is, to split the chance of each particular swf to be shown to the visitor evenly among the banner collection. Definitely I can add some jQuery code to do this from client-side, a random number generator and if-else statement would work - just $.load() it! However, what if I'd like to make sure those disabled Javascript (is there any now btw?) still be able to see different swfs in each visit. Any suggestion on how to approach this? Many thanks in advance.

  • TinyMCE: experiences, options

    - by YsoL8
Hi I am considering using TinyMCE to handle the textboxes on sites I develop. I have the production version downloaded. At first I will be using it for the backend of a client's site on a deadline and I need it to work out of the box initally. In the future I also like the customisation options. Basically, does TinyMCE work, is it stable and is it cross browser compatible in a normal server environment? I am a PHP developer with limited Javascript skills.

  • How can I test if an input field contains foreign characters?

    - by zeckdude
I have an input field in a form. Upon pushing submit, I want to validate to make sure the user entered non-latin characters only, so any foreign language characters, like Chinese among many others. Or at the very least test to make sure it does not contain any latin characters. Could I use a regular expression for this? What would be the best approach for this? I am validating in both javaScript and in PHP. What solutions can I use to check for foreign characters in the input field in both programming languages?

  • Embed external website inside a page

    - by jasongullickson
I'd like to load something from website B into a page on website A and contain the functionality of website B within a container on website A. I tried doing this using a div and jQuery's load() method but I run into cross-domain-scripting issues (I think, it works with a local file but not a remote URL). I also tried using an iframe but strange things happen (for example, when a link is clicked in the "contained" website B, it reloads the entire browser, losing the content of website A). I've read about some server-side ways of handling this (and it may just come to that) but ideally I want something completely client side, JavaScript and HTML. Any ideas?

  • what is the purpose of numeric/boolean/string objects as opposed to primitive values?

    - by zespri
In javascript you can call a function as a function or as a constructor. For example you can do : myObject = new Number(13); myPrimitiveValue = Number(13); or simply myPrimitiveValue = 13; I understand the difference between the results. Can you explain me under which reasonable circumstances creating a number, a boolean or a string as an object is desirable? For example, ability to set new properties (this is something you can do on objects but can't really do on primitive values) is almost always a bad idea for objects containing number/boolean/string. Why would I want a numeric/boolean/string object?

  • control.focus() after selectedIndexChanged

    - by kyle
I need to focus on a textbox after an item has been selected from a dropdownlist. I've tried control.focus() and setfocus(). The last thing I've tried was Set_Focus(dtbEffectiveDate.ClientID) inside the SelectedIndexChanged method with the folowing method. Protected Sub Set_Focus(ByVal ControlName As String) Dim strScript As String strScript = "<script language=javascript> window.setTimeout(""" + ControlName + ".focus();"",0); </script>" RegisterStartupScript("focus", strScript) End Sub I'm out of answers so any help would be awesome.

  • When is (true == x) === !!x false?

    - by Paul S.
JavaScript has different equality comparison operators Equal == Strict equal === It also has a logical NOT ! and I've tended to think of using a double logical NOT, !!x, as basically the same as true == x. However I know this is not always the case, e.g. x = [] because [] is truthy for ! but falsy for ==. So, for which xs would (true == x) === !!x give false? Alternatively, what is falsy by == but not !! (or vice versa)?

  • How to change the font size in table cells according to cells content ?

    - by misha-moroshko
I have an HTML table which has incrementing numbers starting from 0 in its cells (left to right, up to bottom). I fixed in CSS the width and the height of the cells (40px width, 25px height, in my case). When the table becomes larger, the numbers inside it becomes large also (for example, the last number is 1266356). This causes the cells to be wider than I defined in the CSS, which expands the whole table accordingly. Instead, I would like the font of the numbers to be smaller to keep the width of the cell 40px. How can I accomplish this using CSS / Javascript / jQuery ?

  • How to put buttons in a html page in a jQuery dialog

    - by Robert
eHello everyone, the following is my code to display a jquery dialog window with a closing button "OK": <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){$("#dialog").dialog({autoOpen:false,bgiframe:true,buttons: { "OK": function() { $(this).dialog("close"); } }, width:500, height: 350, modal: true, show: 'slide', hide:'slide', title:"Similar Trends Detected in 2nd DataSet"}); $("#userid").focus(); }); function showForm(matches){ $("#dialog").html(matches).dialog("open");} Currently it runs by supplying a string variable "matches",then the content of the variable gets displayed on the dialog frame. Now me and my teammate want to extend this dialog a little,we want to attach a button to every line inside the html content("matches" variable),please note that we don't want buttons in the dialog(like another "OK" button),but we want buttons "inside" the frame (the actual html content). So I would like some help here, how could I modify my "matches" variable,to have buttons also shown inside the dialog. Thanks.

  • How can I edit a js file sent by the server before it gets to my browser?

    - by pstone
During a normal browsing session I want to edit a specific javascript file before the browser receives since once it gets there it's impossible to edit. Is there are any tool for this? For what I need it I can't just save it and edit it on my disk. I'm ready to learn how to program it myself but if anyone can point out more or less what I have to do I'd be very grateful. I'd have to intercept the packets until I have the whole file while blocking the browser from receiving it any part of it, then edit it manually and forward it to the same port. I don't think I can do this by just using pcap, I've read a bit about scapy but I'm not sure if it can help me either. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I "step over" jQuery code while debugging?

    - by Scott Rippey
While stepping through a script that uses jQuery, I just want to test the code I wrote. I don't want to step into the jQuery file -- I'm not debugging jQuery, just my own file. Are there any ways to tell a debugger to not step into the jQuery file? I use Visual Studio + Internet Explorer, as well as Firefox + Firebug for stepping through code ... and both seem to love to step through dozens of jQuery statements. For example, say I have a script like this: $("div").each(function() { $(this).hide(); }); I would like to press "step into" and not see the implementation of ".each()" etc... In C#, this is possible by using the [DebuggerStepThrough()] attribute on a class. But that doesn't help with JavaScript.

  • Change selected value of drop down list with jQuery

    - by Phairoh
I have a drop down list with known values. What I'm trying to do is set the drop down list to a particular value that I know exists using jQuery. Using regular JavaScript, I would do something like: ddl = document.getElementById("ID of element goes here"); ddl.value = 2; // 2 being the value I want to set it to. However, I need to do this with jQuery because I'm using a CSS class for my selector (stupid ASP.NET client ids...). Here are a few things I've tried: $("._statusDDL").val(2); // doesn't find 2 as a value $("._statusDDL").children("option").val(2) // also failed. How can I do it with jQuery?

  • Jquery plugin for getting changes in textarea and sending them to server

    - by user763410
I am getting a file "abc.txt" from server and dispaying it in a text area for editing. <div id="filecontents"> <textarea> CONTENTS OF FILE LARGER THAN 10KB </textarea> </div> The contents of the file are potentially large. The user will edit the textarea and add/delete text from any part(not just the end). I want to send ONLY the changes to the server for patching. How do I accomplish this?. Is there a javascript version of the popular linux command(diff). John Resig's diff code may not work as, for me, it will involve additional parsing on server side. Thanks!

  • Changing the context of a self-executing function

    - by TaylorMac
This code is copied directly from: http://www.bennadel.com/blog/2264-Changing-The-Execution-Context-Of-Your-Self-Executing-Function-Blocks-In-JavaScript.htm // Set the singleton value to the return value of the self- // executing function block. var singleton = (function(){ // Declare a private variable. var message = "Stop playing with your context!"; this.getMessage = function(){ return( message ); }; // Return this object reference. return( this ); }).call( {} ); // alert the singleton message. alert( "Message:", singleton.getMessage()); ?My thought is that I can use this to better contain the variables and functions in my programs. However, when I try to run the code in a JSfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/xSKHh/ It does not return the message. What am I missing?

  • How to make an element slide with the viewport as it scrolls?

    - by alex
I've Googled for this but must be using the wrong keywords. Basically I want to use the effect that Magento and now Stack Overflow uses. That is, there is an element in a column, and when you scroll down, it sticks to the top of the viewport. And once scrolled up again, it goes back into the normal page flow. This Ask A Question is a good page for example. Scroll down and watch the "How to Format" element come down (might need to make your viewport smaller if you have a large screen to see the effect). I've noticed it is setting position: fixed in the CSS. The JavaScript however is obfuscated. What's the easiest way to achieve this effect? Is there a jQuery plugin available?

  • Confused on the basics of AJAX

    - by Doug
So right now, I'm just using a basic form to check a password. I want it to check the password and basically remain on page.html so I can use JavaScript to alert incorrect password or something. I'm not really sure how to do that. It seems it would bring me to check.php. I'm not too sure on the whole process, any help appreciated! Thanks! Page.html <form action="check.php" method="post"> <input type="password" name="password" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> check.php <?php $password = $_POST['password']; if ( $password != "testing" ) { die(); } ?>
