What good IDE would you recommend for C++ (GNU) programming, with support for the wxWidget library and a GUI builder/designer all in one? Can be either for windows or linux.
I'm not particularly knowledgable about programming and I'm trying to figure out how to get a precise value calculated in a C program. I need a constant to the power of negative 7, with 5 significant figures. Any suggestions (keeping in mind I know very little, have never programmed in anything but c and only during required courses that I took years ago at school)?
Thanks!
I am starting my first "programming" project in PHP making some sort of web application that give the linux program, Motion, a decent web interface.
Anyways, I was curious as to how when real applications are programmed, do y'all go for a class for each view or one single class for the application altogether? I know this is more of a preference thing, I was just curious as to how it happens in real software.
Hi,
I am new to iphone programming designs. I have hundreds of plists on my server. On the first launch i will be downloading all these plists into my application and storing it here. What are all the best ways to save and retrieve these plists in my application ? What are the iPhone libraries that should be used to get the best and memory efficient iphone application ?
I mostly use Eclipse but have mentionned Netbeans on my cv. Are there any good concise and up-to-date tutorials apart from the official ones that could bring me up to speed on how to use the IDE efficiently (shortcuts, debugging, views ...)? This excludes programming tutorials as I don't really need them unless there's a special manipulation involved.
Today I met a friend who is also using stackoverflow. He had a job interview today at a small business and during the interview, the prospective boss asked him how he assures that he's alawys up-to-date concerning technical questions and what he's doing to seek for a solution for a problem he can't solve by its own. Besides some magazines, journals, books and blogs my friend also mentioned stackoverflow.
The prospective boss seems very interested about that and asked him if he could tell him his username. It appears that was the most difficult during the whole interview ;) Would you tell your prospective boss your username? An the pro side one can mention that the boss sees that you're very involved in your business and community but on the other hand it is a really private thing and you cant post anymore in thread like "what was the worst working environment?"
My friend circumnaviagted this question by a rather lame answer (more or less: i use autologin, thats why i have to check the username later at home, ill maybe send you an email)
I'm a bit new to programming, and based on the few sources I've read both on the web and the books I'm learning to teach myself they are able to define what IF THEN and SELECT CASE conditional statements are, but have failed to give a comparison as to why I would use one over the other and what best practices decide this.
If I'm understanding these conditional statements correctly, then both are based on a set of conditions with an outcome based around meeting these conditions, and if no conditions are met then an alternative outcome can be defined.
I'm having trouble in understanding when I would use an IF THEN statement, and when I'd use a SELECT CASE statement, and what best practices are used to define this decision.
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!
Hi,
I have started learning Ruby for the past 2,3 weeks and I have come up with some findings on the language. Can someone please validate these points.
Implemented in many other high level languages such as C, Java, .Net etc.,
Is slow for the obvious reason that it cannot beat any of the already known high level languages.
Should never be compared with any other high level language.
Not suitable for large applications.
Completely open source and is in a budding state.
Has a framework called Rails which claims that it would be good for Agile development
Community out there is getting better day by day and finding help immediately should not be a problem as time goes by.
Has significant changes between releases which many developers wont welcome right away.
Running time cannot be comprehensively estimated since the language has several underlying implementation in several languages.
Books are always outdated by the time when you finish them.
Thanks.
What is good book for industry level C++ programming?
I am not looking for C++ book for beginners which talk about data types and control structure. I am looking for more advance book.
For example, how to build system application using C++.
Any kind of guidance will be very helpful.
Thank in advance.
The standard says
A variable is introduced by the declaration of an object. The variable's name denotes the object.
But what does this definition actually mean? Does a variable give a name to an object, i.e. are variables just a naming mechanism for otherwise anonymous objects? Or is a variable the name itself? Or is a variable a named object in the sense that every variable is also an object? Or is a variable just a "proxy" with a name that "delegates" all operations to the real object?
To confuse things further, many C++ books seem to treat variables and objects as synonyms.
What is your take on this?
This may be a completely dumb question, but I've seen a couple examples declaring the variables AFTER putting them in bind_param:
http://devzone.zend.com/article/686
I've never seen this done before and all my programming knowledge says I should define them before hand. Is this a valid/preferred way?
I'm attempting to recreate a time sheet built on asp and I can't figure out how to get the current weeks starting date "6-13-2010" and have it populate a combo box can you help me with this I'm new to C# and asp programming.
I am kind of new to C (I have prior Java, C#, and some C++ experience). In C, is it necessary to declare a function prototype or can the code compile without it? Is it good programming practice to do so? Or does it just depend on the compiler? (I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and using the GNU C Compiler, or gcc, under the Code::Blocks IDE)
Hi All,
I went through all the posts on Reflection but couldn't find the answer to my question.
Can you please tell me what were the problems in programming world before .Net Reflection
came and how it solved those problems.
Please explain with example.
I have come across many ad hoc implementations of thread class in C++, but why is there no standard library thread class like the one in Java? The one that I generally use in C++ is http://www.linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/C++Programming-HOWTO-24.html
I would like to learn Computer Graphics and be good for
my career but the only thing i know is python programming.
where should i start and go next? Im also studying from home.
Can anyone help me how to get (or log) all URLs accessed by web browsers in a computer. Together with its response time?
Note: visual C++ will be the Programming language to be use and this will run under windows platform.
I keep reading about defficiencies and issues with languages. Specifically, I'm learning PHP and Javascript, but I see it everywhere. This question arose while reading Javascript: The Good Parts and PHP Objects, Patterns and Practice. While understanding and avoiding easy pitfalls, is there a way I can learn the fundamentals of OOP and discover solid programming practices without overlooking important areas (or simply becoming jaded)?
I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunity to learn from mistakes!
Hi, in C if I have a printf statement containing say "%.2f", it says that the precision is 2 digits after the decimal place. I haven't explicitly specify the width. I have two questions:
Is this good programming practice?;
Is without specifying the width means that the width of the field will get adjusted automatically when printing the number, irrespective of the number of digits it contains?
Thanks a lot...
Hi, guys I know this question is very basic but I've met in few publications (websites, books) different style of override virtual function. What I mean is: if I have base class:
class Base
{
public:
virtual void f() = 0;
};
in some publications I saw that to override this some authors would just say:
void f();
and some would still repeat the virtual keyword before void. Which form of overwriting is in good style?
Thank you for your answers.
Anybody knows some actual documentation written? I can't find anything good for any of the 2 competing mods. Looks like Emacs is pretty much abandon when it comes to Python and it is a shame as there is no other programmable programming editor that comes close to Emacs.
Hi everybody..
My wondering is a Programming/Business question, so here what I am thinking about,
One of my big goals is to design a Computer Operating System, however if it will be just for fun, knowledge or even to be the next Windows or Linux, so if I had Programmed one, with GUI
(windows,lists,buttons,etc..) and for example I will make it for Commercial use,
Will Microsoft or Apple comes and drop me in legal problems just like what happened in GUI war between the two of them(Apple and Microsoft)?
Thanks.
"8,5,,1,4,7,,,,7,,1,9,3,6,,,8,6,3,9,,2,5,4,,,,,3,2,,,7,4,1,1,,4,,6,9,,5,,,,5,,,1,,6,3,,,6,5,,,,7,4,,1,7,6,,,,8,,5,,,7,1,,3,9,"
I'm doing a programming challenge where i need to parse this sequence into my sudoku script.
Need to get the above sequence into 8,5,0,1,4,7,0,0,0,7,0,1,9,3,6,0,0,8.........
I tried re but without success, help is appreciated, thanks.
Im using Sql compact server.I created table with varchar datas.But i select a particular column member to be an identity.im programming in c#.
I want pass the query. how can i achieve this? Im new to this sql compact,
First time here. Saw some really smart programming stuff here that is way out of my league. SO I guess this question should be a piece of cake.
Thanks!
