  • jQuery, Animate opacity to 1 then remove the opacity property to make it better looking on IE

    - by Emily
Hi everyone, I tried the jQuery fadeIn animation in all browsers and it work good, but not that much on IE. the Alpha png images are so creepy after appending the CSS opacity, but i have an idea and i don't know how to implement it using jQuery. The idea is to fadeIn the element and when the animation is finished it will automatically remove the opacity property in order to make the picture quality better. How to do that? Note: i'm using Animate and not FadeIn. Thanks

  • JQuery UI popup elements not positioning correctly

    - by Okku
I am using both JQuery UI Dialog and JQuery UI autocomplete both have the same erroneous behavior when they popup, the position is always 0,0! I have tried some different position arguments when popping up the dialog but non seems to help. Any clues? Is this a bug in the position calculation in JQuery? Or is this some css bug? Versions are 1.4.2 and 1.8.0

  • Server memory issues, and expected level of service from hosting company

    - by Greg
I'm involved in maintaining an Ubuntu VPS which runs our django websites (nginx/apache/mod_wsgi) and we've been having some memory spikes which have either caused the database to die, or induced kernel panic when the memory management system can't find any killable processes. I'm working on fixing the memory spikes, but I'm wondering whether there's anything I can do to better deal with the problem if it occurs again. Are there any tools I could use to detect the memory spikes and then, say, kill the offending process and email the server admin to fix it up? Killing off one website so that the server can remain operational is certainly preferable to the whole thing falling over. Also, we were charged $600 for after-hours service because we had to get the hosting company to restart the server - is this standard practice among hosting companies? Another provider I work with provides a panel with which I can stop and start the server myself, and given that a restart was all that was needed, $600 seems mightily excessive. (That's NZD, it's around $445 USD)

  • jquery xml slideshow using ajax

    - by Codemaster Snake
Hi all, I am trying to create a JQuery based slider using ajax to load images url from a xml file and then creating a html li list dynamically. Till now I am able to append and create DOM structure using Jquery. But I am not able to access the dynamically created list. I have also tried custom events using bind but not able to successfully implement it. Following is my jquery plugin code: (function($){ $.fn.genie = function(options) { var genie_dom = "<div class='genie_wrapper'><ul class='genie'></ul></div>"; var o, base; var genie_styles = "<style>.genie_wrapper{overflow:hidden}.genie{position: relative;margin:0;padding:0}.genie li {position: absolute;margin:0;padding:0}</style>"; var defaults = { width : '960px', height : '300px', background_color : '#000000', xml : 'genie.xml', speed : 1000, pause: 1000 }; base = $(this); o = $.extend(defaults, options); return this.each(function() { create_elements(); }); function create_elements() { $(base).html(genie_dom); $('head').append(genie_styles); $('.genie_wrapper').css({'background-color' : o.background_color, width : o.width, height: '300px', overflow: ''}); $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: o.xml, dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { var slides = $(xml).find('slide'); var count = 0; $(slides).each(function(){ $('.genie').append('<li class="slide" id="slide'+count+'"><img src="' + $(this).text() + '" /></li>'); $('.genie li:last').css({'z-index' : count}); count++; }); } }); } } })(jQuery); In my html file: There is only one empty div to which I am calling my plugin like $(document).ready(function() { $('.slideshow').genie(); }); I have also tried using following everywhere in JS: $(".slide").bind("start_animation", function(e){ $(this).fadeOut(1000); alert($(this).html()); }); $(".slide").trigger("start_animation"); I want to animate li list using animate function, Can anyone please tell me how to implement it... It would be of great help... Regards, Neeraj Kumar EDIT: Can Anyone help me out please????

  • Unnecessary Error Message Being Displayed

    - by ThatMacLad
I've set up a form to update my blog and it was working fine up until about this morning. • Remote Access Without Explicit Permission: Convenience or Liability?

    - by routeNpingme
For outsourced professional IT remote support, one habit most new technicians get into is the "instead of getting the user to start up remote support each time, I'll go ahead and install LogMeIn / GoToMyPC / Remote Desktop / whatever so that if they call again, I can just jump on and help them". This of course opens up a potential liability because a client PC on a network that we don't own is being accessed without a user explicitly providing permission by clicking a "Yes, allow technician to control my PC" option. I realize the rules totally change when you're an IT admin over a network that you "own", but this is outsourced IT support. Just curious what others' policies are. Is this an acceptable practice for convenience and I'm turning into one of those "security is more important than anything" people, or is this really a liability?

  • configuring linux server to send traffic to local machines using local IP address

    - by gkdsp
Two linux servers, server1 and server2, are on the same local network (they also have access to an external network). Server2 has a local IP of 192.168.0.2 and a host name of host2.mydomain.com. QUESTION 1: If an application on server1 sends traffic to server2 using a host name of host2.mydomain.com, what determines whether this traffic is routed to server2 using the local or external network? QUESTION 2: To ensure that all traffic sent from server1 to server2 always uses the local network, could I simply include in the server1 /etc/hosts file the following? 192.168.0.2 host2.mydomain.com ...the thinking being, if the servers are always on the same network there should never be a need for server2 to send traffic to server1 via the external network (that I can think of anyway). Is this done in practice, or is some other method preferred?

  • ISAPI_Rewrite: Zend PHP Framework project setup

    - by Yaw Reuben
How do I go about getting the isapi_rewrite working on IIS 6.0? My shared hosting account supports ISAPI_Rewrite - I've run the provided tests to confirm. I'm only able to access the index page of my Zend PHP project, but get the 404 error for other actions in my index controller class definition. I've basically placed the code: [ISAPI_Rewrite] RepeatLimit 20 RewriteRule (?!\.(js|ico|gif|jpg|png|css|swf))$ index.php in an httpd.ini access file in my wwwroot directory. Is there anything I'm missing?

  • creating a JQuery function

    - by Russell Parrott
Sorry to bother you guys & girls again on Christmas eve, but I need help creating a reusable JQuery function. I have "badly crafted" this set of code that all works. But I would really like to put it as a function so I don't have to keep repeating everything for each form. I am not too sure about how all the if statements can be combined etc. that is why I wrote it as it is. Any help much appreciated - Oh I suppose it could also be some kind of plugin but that might be the next step if I can understand how the function works. $(':input:visible').live('blur',function(){ if($(this).attr('required')) { if($(this).val() == '' ) { $(this).css({'background-color':'#FFEEEE' }); $(this).parent('form').children('input[type=submit]').hide(); $(this).next('.errormsg').html('OOPs ... '+$(this).prev('label').html()+' is required'); $(this).focus(); $(this).attr('placeholder').hide(); } else { $(this).css({'background-color':'#FFF' , 'border-color':'#999999'}); $(this).next('.errormsg').empty(); $(this).parent('form').children('input[type=submit]').show(); } } return false; }); $(':input[max]').live('blur',function(){ if($(this).attr('max') < parseInt($(this).val()) ){ $(this).next('.errormsg').html( 'OOPs ... the maximum value is '+$(this).attr('max') ); $(this).parent('form').children('input[type=submit]').hide(); $(this).focus(); } else {} return false; }); $(':input[min]').live('blur',function(){ if($(this).attr('min') > parseInt($(this).val()) ){ $(this).next('.errormsg').html( 'OOPs ... the minimum value is '+$(this).attr('min') ); $(this).parent('form').children('input[type=submit]').hide(); $(this).focus(); } else {} return false; }); $(':input[maxlength]').live('keyup',function(){ if($(this).val()==''){ } else { $(this).next('.errormsg').html( $(this).attr('maxlength')- $(this).val().length +' chars remaining'); } return false; }); As said, help much appreciated with one small (I hope) thing, how can I break out of any function IF there are no error messages to actually submit the form?

  • How to convert a fixed height/width-fixed layout to elastic?

    - by phretor
I used the same software used here http://us.gn.bartal.org/ to create a fixed width/height treemap in HTML + CSS. I would like to make it elastic by having a JavaScript function to convert all pixels absolute positions and sizes to percentages. How would you suggest to proceed? Is there some jQuery/Prototype/Dojo magic that I can exploit?

  • Forward requests to IIS Application/Folder to Apache server on another port

    - by TheGwa
I have found many questions and answers for ways of doing this using asapi filters or ARR and URL Rewrite, but none are clear and concise and I am sure many people have this issue. I am looking for a best practice step by step solution to the following scenario: I have a development server accessible externally via a specific port for testing. Eg. rnd.domain.com:8888. So there is one port in and out of this machine accessible to the world. On this server I have a number of Apache or other servers using specific ports such as 8080. IIS is bound to port 80 locally as well as 8888 to get external requests and works perfectly. I would like to use an application (folder) in IIS such as rnd.domain.com:8888/mapserver to map to the local apache server in both directions. The same solution must apply in production where the domain is mapped to port 80. eg. production.domain.com/mapserver maps to 8080 on production server

  • Getting mouse position both in Internet explorer and firefox with javascript

    - by strakastroukas
I read this article regarding creating popup notes with javascript and css The problem is that this one works only in IE since window.event is undefined in Firefox. // assigns X,Y mouse coordinates to note element note.style.left=event.clientX; note.style.top=event.clientY; So could you point me a fully working example? Or at least, how could i modify the javascript code to make it work in both internet browsers?

  • Running System Center Configuration Manager on a Domain Controller

    - by Brent D
We are a smallish educational network (about 70 clients) with a single server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, functioning as both domain controller and file server. The educational pricing for Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 is irresistible as a managed anti-malware solution, but it requires System Center Configuration Manager 2007. I know best practice is not to run System Center Configuration Manager on a domain controller, but it's the only server I have to work with. Will installing SCCM on a domain controller cause problems? What conflicts might I need to take into account when planning deployment?

  • TCP connection between PCs in home wi-fi network

    - by Nordvind
I want to establish a connection between 2 PCs. Point is to practice in writing client-server applications and similar stuff. I've heard around, that I can access another PC in network by address like "Router IP:port number". Am I right or i got it wrong? So how do I configure router to let connections to certain ports? And what would address look like, if I'm, say, connecting to 80 port on my home server? P.S. Will be grateful for links to some tutorials on this matter, if any.

  • How do I securely store and manage 180 passwords?

    - by Sammy
I have about 180 passwords for different websites and web services. They are all stored in one single password protected Excel document. As the list gets longer I am more and more concerned about its security. Just how secure, or should I say insecure, is a password protected Excel document? What's the best practice for storing this many passwords in a secure and easy manageable way? I find the Excel method to be easy enough, but I am concerned about the security aspect.

  • How should I capture Linux kernel panic stack traces?

    - by Alnitak
What's current best practice to capture full kernel stack traces on a Linux system (RHEL 5.x, kernel 2.6.18) that occasionally panics in a device driver? I'm used to the "old" SunOS way of doing things - crash dumps get written to swap, and on reboot the dump gets retrieved in the local file system. man 8 crash refers to diskdump, but that appears to be unsupported. and/or deprecated. I've played with kdump, but it's unclear whether I can get a stack trace from that. Triggering a panic via Magic SysRq didn't create one. It also seems wasteful to reserve so much memory (128MB) just for a kexec crash recovery kernel.

  • Javascript - Canvas image never appears on first function run

    - by Matt
    I'm getting a bit of a weird issue, the image never shows the first time you run the game in your browser, after that you see it every time. If you close your browser and re open it and run the game again, the same issue occurs - you don't see the image the first time you run it. Here's the issue in action, just hit a wall and there's no image the first time on the end game screen. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Matt function showGameOver() { ctx.clearRect(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height); ctx.fillStyle = "black"; ctx.font = "16px sans-serif"; ctx.fillText("Game Over!", ((canvas.width / 2) - (ctx.measureText("Game Over!").width / 2)), 50); ctx.font = "12px sans-serif"; ctx.fillText("Your Score Was: " + score, ((canvas.width / 2) - (ctx.measureText("Your Score Was: " + score).width / 2)), 70); myimage = new Image(); myimage.src = "xcLDp.gif"; var size = [119, 26], //set up size coord = [443, 200]; ctx.font = "12px sans-serif"; ctx.fillText("Restart", ((canvas.width / 2) - (ctx.measureText("Restart").width / 2)), 197); ctx.drawImage( //draw it on canvas myimage, coord[0], coord[1], size[0], size[1] ); $("canvas").click(function(e) { //when click.. if ( testIfOver(this, e, size, coord) ) { startGame(); //reload } }); $("canvas").mousemove(function(e) { //when mouse moving if ( testIfOver(this, e, size, coord) ) { $(this).css("cursor", "pointer"); //change the cursor } else { $(this).css("cursor", "default"); //change it back } }); function testIfOver(ele,ev,size,coord){ if ( ev.pageX > coord[0] + ele.offsetLeft && ev.pageX < coord[0] + size[0] + ele.offsetLeft && ev.pageY > coord[1] + ele.offsetTop && ev.pageY < coord[1] + size[1] + ele.offsetTop ) { return true; } return false; } }

  • Temporary Onmouseover

    Hi guys :) Css "over" selector applys a temporary style to an element, it isn't definitive: div:hover { background-color: red; } I can use the same thing with javascript but it is a bit complicate and impossible for several elements: var elem = document.getElementByTagName ("div")[0]; elem.onmouseover = function () { this.style.backgroundColor = "red"; } elem.onmouseout = function () { this.style.backgroundColor = "transparent"; } There is a better way ? Something like this: document.getElementByTagName ("div")[0].ontemporarymouseover = function () { // LoL this.style.backgroundColor = "red"; } Thanks
