• Java synchronizing static list ?

  Hi, In a Java class , i am having a static list so this list is shared across all the objects of this class.The business logic in this class will run periodically which is invoked by some method with out passing instance parameters.Now I want to invoke this run method based on the list(I will add some vales into this list based on JMS) ,this list may empty sometimes and after finishing the run , i am emptying this list.Now my question is , whether I need to synchronize this list or not? Also let me know is there any other way to pass value in one object instance(Thread1) to other object instance (Thread2) other than having Static variable(static list)? Thx

• Is void *p = 0L valid?

  In this answer, sassman initializes a pointer with: zend_class_entry* ce = 0L; My question is – is this valid? I would say it isn't, to initialize the variable with a null pointer either an unadorned (and possibly casted to void *) 0 constant, or some macro that evaluates to that such as NULL should be used. However, I can't find definitive language in the standard that supports this interpretation. All it says is: An integer constant expression with the value 0, or such an expression cast to type void *, is called a null pointer constant.

• Recursion: using values passed in parameters

  I got this line of code that pops a int of the array saves it to int element then removes it from array. then in the return statement return CountCriticalVotes(rest, blockIndex + element); it ads it to the blockIndex variable and if it reaches 10 before the array is empty it returns 1. But my problem is this, I do not want it to add up all the values in the array in the parameter, but only add one then revert the parameter value back to it´s original state, then add a new, revert etc...   If you try to compile the query below in Visual Basic .NET, it fails. From x In {1, 2} Select x.ToString() The error given by the compiler is: Range variable name cannot match the name of a member of the 'Object' class. There is nothing wrong with the equivalent C# query, though: from x in new[]{1, 2} select x.ToString() This does not happen with the ToString overload that takes a format (it is a member of Int32, not Object). It does happen with other members of Object, as long as they don't take an argument: with GetType and GetHashCode it fails; with Equals(object) it compiles. Why is this restriction in place, and what alternatives can I use?

  I have Button control and I have to set the IsEanbled property based on the bool variable. bool IsBoolVariable I want if IsBoolVariable property is true then I want to set the IsEnabled property to false AND when IsBoolVariable property is false then I want to set the IsEnabled property to true. Is it possible to apply not(!) operator while defining the binding as given below <Button IsEnabled = "{Binding Path = **!**IsBoolVariable}" /> I can very well do that by applying convertors , but that is the only way to do that?

• Using PHP to grab the absolute URL of the script?

  Basically, I want my script to output its absolute URL, but I don't want to statically program it into the script. For example, if my current URL is http://example.com/script.php I want to be able to store it as a variable, or echo it. i.e. $url = http://example.com/script.php; But if I move the script to a different server/domain, I want it to automatically adjust to that, i.e. $url = http://example2.com/newscript.php; But I have no idea how to go about doing this. Any ideas?

  I open a website with urlopen. I then put the website sourcecode into a variable like so source = website.read() When I just print the source it comes out formatted correctly, however when I try to iterate through each line each character is it's own line. for example when I just print it looks like this <HTML> title</html> When I do this for line in source: print line it looks like this < H T M L ... etc I need to find a string that starts with "var" and then print that entire line.

The imagecolorallocate works like that: imagecolorallocate($im, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF); So, I am trying to do the following: $r_bg = bin2hex("0x".substr($text_color,0,2)); $g_bg = bin2hex("0x".substr($text_color,2,2)); $b_bg = bin2hex("0x".substr($text_color,4,2)); $bg_col = imagecolorallocate($image, $r_bg, $g_bg, $b_bg); It does not work. Why? I try it also without bin2hex, it also did not work. Can anybody help me with that?

• How to define an array inside a function in C?

  So in my source file I have the folowin function: void update(state* old_state, state* measurement, uint32_t size) { state new_state[size]; //some function using measurement and old_state and returning the result in newstate arm_fadd_32(measurement,old_state,newstate,size); // rest of the code } Now the compiler throws an error saying that error#28:expression must have a constant value. I think it's due to the fact that even though inside the method the size local variable is not changing the compiler is expecting a constant while defining the size. I have tried the following: int const a = size; and then tried to reinitialize it says constant value is not known. I did some research in internet and it appears that there is no easier way without using malloc, which I don't want to since I am using the code for some embedded application. Is there a way to avoid this problem without really using malloc? Thanks in advance guys!

  Recently I was reading php documentation and found interesting note in string section: Functions, method calls, static class variables, and class constants inside {$} work since PHP 5. However, the value accessed will be interpreted as the name of a variable in the scope in which the string is defined. Using single curly braces ({}) will not work for accessing the return values of functions or methods or the values of class constants or static class variables. See www.php.net/manual/en/language.types.string.php It says, that I can't use curly syntax to get value returned by object's method call. • How could I compare these database values in PHP?

  So a user selects from a drop down list a value. I take this value, put it into a variable, then select from the database the ID value of that table A holding the selected value also. So now I'm trying to use that ID value to get to a many-to-many relationship table that has the selected value from table A to a different table B. The many-to-many relationship table has both IDs. How can I compare this using PHP? So it would be like: $A = $_POST['a']; $sql = "SELECT a, aID from TABLEA WHERE a = $A"; What do I do then to compare the aID with the many-to-many relationships table, then get the other ID in that table and then take that ID to get values from table B?

• In a shared .iml file, what should the jdkName be for an IntelliJ IDEA Plugin SDK?

  I work on a team where we commit our .iml files in version control so that everyone can use them. We have an .iml file for a plugin module, which includes the following: <orderEntry type="jdk" jdkName="IDEA IC-117.798" jdkType="IDEA JDK" /> however, that only works for people who are using that version (IC-117.798) of IntelliJ (some are on 12, some are using the ultimate edition, etc.) Is there any sort of variable like $INTELLIJ_SDK that could be used for the value of jdkName so that the .iml file is valid regardless of which version of IntelliJ you are using?

• mysql_real_escape_string & slashes (again, oh yes)

  Righto, firstly magic quotes & runtime are disabled correctly in php.ini, and confirmed by phpinfo(). PHP version: 5.3.4 MySQL version: 5.1.52 I'm only use mysql_real_escape_string on the data, after htmlspecialchars and a trim, that's all the data cleaning on the variable. Yet, when I submit a single quote, the slash remains in the database. When running mysql_query I'm using "' . $var . '", although in the past this hasn't changed anything (could be due to the double quotes?). Any ideas? and please don't tell me about PDO/prepared statements, I'm aware of them and I have my reasons for doing it this way. Thanks!

I guess there needs to be some sort of temporary tally variable for each item ID, but that seems like it could get messy with too many items.

  If I release the object that's holding a reference to the variable that I need to release, is that sufficient? Or must I release at every level of the containment hierarchy? I fear that my logic comes from working with a garbage collector for too long. For instance, I assigned to this property of a UIPickerView instance by hand instead of using IB @property(nonatomic, assign) id<UIPickerViewDelegate> delegate Since it's an assign property, I can't just release the reference after I assign it. When I finally release my UIPickerView instance, do I need to do this: [singlePicker.delegate release]; [singlePicker release]; or is the second line sufficient? Also: Are these assign properties the norm, or is that mostly for Interface Builder? I thought that retain properties were the normal thing to expect.

• scrollTop issue on constant moving div

  I have a FLASH object that I mouse over which in turn calls the following function to scroll a div. It works but due to the constant high speed scrolling it would throw up NULLS. This in turn caused IE to open a new page through my FLASH ActionScript 2.0 I found that by creating the SC variable and throwing in the condition "if it exists" keeps FLASH from causing IE to open a new page. However, it still creates an error behind the scenes of "Object Required". Although my application works I do not want load up memory with errors.   I'm trying to represent a function that takes no arguments and returns no value (I'm simulating the setTimeout function in JavaScript, if you must know.) case class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : => Unit) doesn't compile, saying " `val' parameters may not be call-by-name" case class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : () => Unit) compiles, but has to be invoked strangely, instead of Scheduled(40, { println("x") } ) I have to do this Scheduled(40, { () => println("x") } ) What also works is class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : Unit => Unit) but is invoked in an even-less-sensible way Scheduled(40, { x : Unit => println("x") } ) (What would a variable of type Unit be?) What I want of course is a constructor that can be invoke the way I would invoke it if it were an ordinary function: Scheduled(40, println("x") ) Give baby his bottle!

• Rails: saving a string on an object -- syntax problem?

When I save a test string it works, but when I try to save the string variable I've created, nothing happens. But when I return the string, the output seems to be correct!
