  • Install APK on ICS through Eclipse

    I rooted my Incredible and flashed an ICS rom, and I can't seem to install an app through Eclipse for testing (or by manually pushing it through adb). I know I have to change the permissions of /data/local to write and execute others in order to allow APKs to be installed, but when I adb shell into my phone and call chmod o=wx /data/local I get a message saying Bad mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks! EDIT: According to this question I need to change the permissions of /data/local in order for this to work; I'm receiving the same errors as the OP of that question.

  • How often to run getWritableDatabase() and getReadableDatabase()?

    I'm writing a Service, a Content Provider, and one or more apps. The Service writes new data to the Content Provider's SQLite database every 5 minutes or so plus at user input, and is intended to run pretty much forever in the background. The app, when running, will display data pulled from the Content Provider, and will be refreshed whenever the Service puts more data into the Content Provider's database. Given that the Service only inserts into the database once every five minutes, when is the right time to call SQLiteOpenHelper's getWritableDatabase() / getReadableDatabase()? Is it on the onCreate() of the Content Provider, or should I run it every time there is an insert() and close it at the end of insert()? The data being inserted every 5 minutes will contain multiple inserts.

  • What adapter to use for ExpandableListView with non-TextView views?

    I have an ExpandableListView in which I'd like to have controls other than TextView. Apparently, SimpleExandableListViewAdapter assumes all the controls are TextViews. A cast exception is generated if they are not. What is the recommended solution? Options I can think of include: - Use some other included adapter. But I can't tell if they all have the same assumption. - Create my own adapter. Is there a doc which describes the contract, ie the sequence of method calls an adapter will encounter? I expected the existing adapters to require the views to conform to some interface to allow any conforming view to be used, rather than hardcode to textview and limit where they can be used.

  • Dealing w/ Sqlite Join results in a cursor

    I have a one-many relationship in my local Sqlite db. Pretty basic stuff. When I do my left outer join I get back results that look like this: the resulting cursor has multiple rows that look like this: A1.id | A1.column1 | A1.column2 | B1.a_id_fk | B1.column1 | B1.column2 A1.id | A1.column1 | A1.column2 | B2.a_id_fk | B2.column1 | B2.column2 and so on... Is there a standard practice or method of dealing with results like this ? Clearly there is only A1, but it has many B-n relationships. I am coming close to using multiple queries instead of the "relational db way". Hopefully I am just not aware of the better way to do things. I intend to expose this query via a content provider and I would hate for all of the consumers to have to write the same aggregation logic.

  • Convert InputStream to String with encoding given in stream data

    Hi, My input is a InputStream which contains an XML document. Encoding used in XML is unknown and it is defined in the first line of XML document. From this InputStream, I want to have all document in a String. To do this, I use a BufferedInputStream to mark the beginning of the file and start reading first line. I read this first line to get encoding and then I use an InputStreamReader to generate a String with the correct encoding. It seems that it is not the best way to achieve this goal because it produces an OutOfMemory error.   • ListView Parsing Persian xml

    I used a tutorial about listview parsing xm from internet and using LasyAdapter shows the items in listview. When I add persian characters in xml (into one of childnodes) the result is some boxes in listview (after showing the text in listview). The format of xml is UTF-8, too. I used typeface too (but didn't work). Besides when I type Pwesian into the application it shows alright but it can't show Persiann content parsed from xml. Thanks in advance.     I published several free and paid app in the Market. I recently get several complains from customers about not finding my app in the 2.1 Market. Even if they have bought them before, they can't find it in the market or their download list after updating to 2.1. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? My apps only require minimal SDK 3.. Thanks a lot!! Update: It looks like that they are not shown because they have copy protection enabled. Is this a bug in the Market?

    I've noticed in recent ads that the Verizon Droid and Droid Eris have to put up acknowledgement on Lucasfilm's trademark of the word "Droid", and had to pay licensing fees to use it. I'm wondering if an app I'm building that uses the word Droid in the naming is violating said trademark. I've noticed other apps that do it (Twitdroid), and never once considered it a problem. The name in question would be ServiceDroid.

  • Webview duplicate HTML problem

    Hi all, I load a url over the web containing images (their source is another url). when then view loads the html, it loads it without the images. after few milliseconds, the images come along but then the html is redrawn, and it does so over the previous html, causing it the web view to hold 2 htmls one over the other (very ugly result). anyone knows why does that happen? how can I avoid that? thanks, Ori

  • Application lifecycle. How to run something only when application starts

    I have a dialog popup to indicate how long I want an activity to run. Seems simple enough, but its difficult to determine when the activity is really starting. If the user opens the keyboard on a G1 and thereby goes into landscape, that reruns the activities onCreate method. I can't have a static for the class or even create an application class, because I can't determine when the 'application' goes away. Even after destroying the only activity, the application is apparently still alive. Is there a way to determine that onCreate has been called because of the keyboard being extended or landscape mode invoked? Thanks

  • Does an Intent's extras still get flattened into a Parcel even if the new activity is being started

    I was wondering... So if you start a new activity via an intent, the intent has to be serialized and deserialized because you may have to send the intent to a separate VM instance via IPC. But what if the PackageManager knows that your new activity will be created on the current task? It seems like a reasonably Googly optimization would be not to serialize the intent at all, since it's all happening inside the same VM. But then again, you can't just allow the new activity to use the same instance of each parcelable, because any changes made by the new activity would show up in the old activity and the programmer might not be expecting this. So, is this optimization being done? Or do the extras always get marshalled and unmarshalled, no matter what?
