  • Weird behavior of an ASP.NET MVC application - track of errors

    - by Alex
Before migrating from ASP.NET WebForms I had a very good way to monitor all my application errors in the Events Log (Administrative Tools). But now after moving to asp.net MVC, all I get is the same mistake occurring every minute (something about Site Master). I know it's not right, because there are other mistakes, but they are not displayed. I purposefully put in division by zero operation, and it didn't track it. I had to implement the OnException method of a controller, and send e-mails with error details which is very inconvenient. How can I solve this problem?

  • JQuery .submit() changes post data

    - by ajbeaven
I'm posting a form with javascript and it seems to be changing a value that I've entered in. Html: <% using (Html.BeginForm("ChangeTime", "Cart", new { cartItemId = cartItem.CartItemID }, FormMethod.Post, null)) { %> <%= Html.TextBox("startTime")%> <input type="submit" value="Update" /> <% } %> JQuery: <script type="text/javascript"> $('#startTime').change(function() { $(this).parent('form').submit(); }); </script> When I put a time in the textbox (05/05/2010 06:08 am), the form is submitted, however the string as it comes through, is 05/05/2010 - with the time part removed. I see this in fiddler. If get rid of the javascript and click the button above, it goes through how it should. Why is JQuery changing my text?

  • Retrieving data from facebook in a winform

    - by gillyb
Hey, I understand that using the facebook API I need an api key to connect, but I still don't understand how i would go about doing this, and how can i retrieve information upon users using the API (i'm only interested in retrieving the information that is publicly available e.g: username, birthdate, and other info that a specific user left public) I downloaded the facebook development kit, and tried adding the FacebookService control, but i don't get it... All the examples/samples i found on the internet are older than the version i have and therefore work a little different.. Can someone please post an example of how i would connect, using a certain API key, and retrieve someones public info/public photos (if there are any) ?? Thanks. :)

  • ASP.NET TextBox verses input type="text" behavior

    - by harrije
I notice with ASP.NET if the server side control TextBox is used with out autopostback it will not submit (or postback) the form when typed text ends with enter, which is different from the behavior for plain old HTML pages. Fine, I can set autopostback to get the behavior I want after the enter key. However, autopostback will also cause submit (or postback) when the typed text does not end with enter but focus has changed (i.e. with tab or mouse click), which again is different from plain old HTML pages. How can I get an ASP.NET page to behave the same as a plain old HTML page with respect to text input regardless of whether enter key or change of focus occurs?

  • Spawning Process Never Finishes on ASP.NET Page

    - by Nissan Fan
The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. If I use delegates it doesn't work either. It just hangs up in my dev and on the test enviornment. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing. If I set wait to false in either approach it works just fine. It's ASP.NET 2.0 VB.NET DotNetNuke 4.0 on Windows Server 2003. I can't even phathom why this would hang up. UPDATE: It causes the CPU to throttle up but it's not running anything. It's like there's something weird going on in the threading. From: http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.asp?ID=5879 Public Sub ShellandWait(ByVal ProcessPath As String) Dim objProcess As System.Diagnostics.Process objProcess = New System.Diagnostics.Process() objProcess.StartInfo.FileName = ProcessPath objProcess.StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden objProcess.Start() 'Wait until the process passes back an exit code objProcess.WaitForExit() 'Free resources associated with this process objProcess.Close() End Sub

  • Using one data source across multiple views in Kendo UI SPA

    - by user3731783
I am trying to build a Kendo UI SPA. I have two views. View 1 (appListView) shows Application Details in a grid and view 2 (activityView) will have a dropdown for application names and a grid that shows the activity for selected application As I am loading all the application details on the loading of view 1, I would like to re-use those details to populate the dropdown on view 2. Please see my code below. Everything works fine but when I go to View 2 it makes a call to the service again to get application details. I would like to use the existing data if it is already loaded and if the uses comes to view 2 directly then it should get application data also. I am not sure what I am missing in the code. View Markup: <script id="appListView" type="text/x-kendo-template"> <h3 data-bind="html: displayName"></h3> <div data-role="grid" data-editable="{'mode':'popup'}" data-bind="source: items" data-columns="[ {'field': 'Name'}, {'field': 'ContactEmail','title':'Contact Email'} ]"> </div> </script> <script id="" type="text\x-kendo-template"> <div> Activity for Application&nbsp;&nbsp; <input name="AppName" data-role="dropdownlist" data-source="appsModel.items" data-text-field="Name" data-value-field="Id" data-option-label="Choose an application name" style="width:250px;" /> </div> <div id="Activities" data-role="grid" data-bind="source: items" data-auto-bind="false" data-columns="[ {'field': 'Domain','title':'Domain'}, {'field': 'ActivityType','title':'Activity Type'} ]"> </div> </script> js with DataSource and View Model: //data sources var applications = new kendo.data.DataSource({ schema: { model: { id: "Id" } }, serverFiltering : true, transport: { read: { url: '/api/App', dataType: 'json', type:'GET' } } }); var activities = new kendo.data.DataSource({ schema: { model: { id: "Id" } }, transport: { read: { url: '/api/Activity', dataType: 'json', type: 'GET' }, parameterMap: function (data, type) { if (type == "read") { return 'appId=' + $("#AppName").val() ; } } } }); //Models var appsModel = kendo.observable({ items: applications, displayName: 'My Applications' }); var activityModel = kendo.observable({ items: activities, onAppChange: function(t){ $("#Activities").data("kendoGrid").dataSource.read(); }, dispayName: 'Application Activities' }); //views var layout = new kendo.Layout("layout-template"); var appListView = new kendo.View("appListView", { model: appsModel }); var activityView = new kendo.View("activityView", { model: activityModel }); Thank you for taking time to read this long question.

  • receive emails in a .NET service (C#)

    - by Jean Azzopardi
Hi, this is my first posting on stackoverflow, so don't flame me too much ;) I'm building a service that's monitoring devices and should be able to receive emails from users, parse them and take action accordingly. It should also be able to send emails about the status of the devices, etc. I'll be using Windows.Live email, and as I said, a .NET service that should be able to send/recieve emails. I am wondering what kind of system would I need to cater for receiving the emails, as I already know how to send them via the System.net.Mail API. Thanks. EDIT : Thanks for your comments everybody, I'm looking forward to implementing this system and asking more questions on this rather excellent site.

  • GZipStream in an WebHttpResponse producing no data

    - by Pierre 303
    I want to compress my HTTP Responses for client that supports it. Here is the code used to send a standard response: IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } The code above works fine. Now I added gzip support below. When I test it with a browser that supports gzip or a custom method, it returns an empty string. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I just can't find it... IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string acceptEncoding = request.Headers["Accept-Encoding"]; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); if (acceptEncoding != null && acceptEncoding.Contains("gzip")) { byte[] bytes = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(responseBody); response.AddHeader("Content-Encoding", "gzip"); using (GZipStream writer = new GZipStream(response.Body, CompressionMode.Compress)) { writer.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } } else { using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } }

  • What version of Windows 7 for ASP.NET development on Visual Studio

    - by Bazza Formez
Hi, I am about to upgrade my pc, and operating system at the same time. I was wondering what version of Windows 7 to get pre-installed, given that I want to do some ASP.NET development using Visual Studio. Specifically : Will all versions of Windows 7 run an IIS server & be suitable for ASP.NET development ? Are all good for running SQL Server etc ? Will Windows 7 have any probs running old versions of Visual Studio (Ie. 2003 & 2005 versions). Are there any other things I need to consider ? I'm probably going for the 32 bit version of Windows 7. Thanks in advance, Bazza

  • IDENTITY_INSERT is set to off error

    - by kingrichard2005
I have a MVC web application with a table in the model that I would like to add to. I have the primary key set along with the other data fields, but every time I try to add to the table, I get the following error: "Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'TABLE_NAME' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF." I'm not sure why this problem is coming up, I have the primary key set as the identity and it is also set to auto increment in the Visual Studio table designer. Is there any way I can adjust the IDENTITY_INSERT parameter in the table designer in Visual Studio?? Or is there some other issue that might be causing this.

  • .net, using PowerShell class to invoke a "[namespace.class]::method" style command

    - by Marco
Hello, I created a powershell object via .net to invoke commands. When I invoke normal commands like 'Get-Process' I had no problems: ps.AddCommand("Get-Process").AddParameter(...).Invoke() but I'm not able to invoke a .net method with the syntax "[namespace.class]::method", just to make an example to invoke [System.IO.File]::Exists("c:\boo.txt"). I tried with ps.AddCommand("[System.IO.File]::Exists(\"c:\boo.txt\")").Invoke() ps.AddCommand("[System.IO.File]::Exists").AddArgument("c:\boo.txt\").Invoke() and some others. It always throws an exception which says that the command specified is not recognized. There is a way to invoke that type of command? Thanks

  • Changing expiry on ASP.NET's Session State cookie

    - by Charlie Somerville
I'm using ASP.NET Session State to keep track of logged in users on my site. However, one problem I'm running into is that by default ASP.NET session cookies are set to expire when the browser closes. I've tried setting my own ASP.NET_SessionId cookie and modifying the cookie's expiry using something similar to the following code: Response.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionId"].Expires = DateTime.Now.AddMonths(1); None of these approaches work, they all set a second cookie with the same name. Is there a way of changing the session cookie's expiry?

  • Create slide-in notifications à la Outlook in Windows with .NET

    - by Draak
I am using .NET and am creating a desktop app/service that will display notifications in the corner of my Desktop when certain events are triggered. I don't want to use a regular Message Box b/c that would be too intrusive. The notifications would slide into view and then fade out after a few seconds. I am thinking of something that will act very much like the Outlook alerts that one gets when a new message arrives. The question is: Should I use WPF for this? I've never done anything with WPF but will happily try it if that's best means to the end. Is there a way to accomplish this with regular .NET libraries?

  • Asp.net mvc small amount data storage

    - by Trimack
Hi there, I am writing some learning tests (i.e. what's the answer for...; choose correct options...). Now my question is, how should I store them. SQL db seems quite an overkill, but I really don't know what would be the best choice if I wanted to select random subset of questions etc. Perhaps some simple xml files? Thanks for advice.

  • R: How can I use apply on rows of a data.frame and get out $column_name?

    - by John
    I'm trying to access $a using the following example: df<-data.frame(a=c("x","x","y","y"),b=c(1,2,3,4)) > df a b 1 x 1 2 x 2 3 y 3 4 y 4 test_fun <- function (data.frame_in) { print (data.frame_in[1]) } I can now access $a if I use an index for the first column: apply(df, 1, test_fun) a "x" a "x" a "y" a "y" [1] "x" "x" "y" "y" But I cannot access column $a with the $ notation: error: "$ operator is invalid for atomic vectors" test_fun_2 <- function (data.frame_in) { print (data.frame_in$a) } >apply(df, 1, test_fun_2) Error in data.frame_in$a : $ operator is invalid for atomic vectors Is this not possible?

  • Confused with conditional and logical operators - VB.net

    - by AgentRev
I'm kind of new to VB.net, and since I just finished a C# course, the lack of parentheses creates a lot of confusion on how to write certain combinations of operators. The C# equivalent of the line I am trying to reproduce in VB would be like this : if ( (a == 0 && b != null) || (a == 1 && c != null) ) I'm have no idea how to write this in VB, I've tried many combinations of And, Or, AndAlso, OrElse, etc. but I can't achieve the desired result. I can't find any clear example of C# v.s. VB.net comparison on operators, and the notes I have aren't helpful either. Can someone help me figure this out?

  • asp.net Background Threads Exception Handling

    - by Chris
In my 3.5 .net web application I have a background thread that does a lot of work (the application is similar to mint.com in that it does a lot of account aggregation on background threads). I do extensive exception handling within the thread performing the aggregation but there's always the chance an unhandled exception will be thrown and my entire application will die. I've read some articles about this topic but they all seem fairly outdated and none of them implement a standard approach. Is there a standard approach to this nowadays? Is there any nicer way to handle this in ASP.NET 4.0?
