• How to generate a private/public key pair to use for a Linux server on Windows Azure?

  Following Windows Azure documentation, I generated a pair of private/public keys on an Ubuntu machine using the exact comment as given: openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout myPrivateKey.key -out myCert.pem When I open the private key in puttygen, the following error is displayed: Couldn't load private key (unrecognised key type) The private key generated by openssl looks correct: -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- MIIEvQIBADANBgkqhkiG6w0xAQEFAASCBKcwggSjAgEsAoIBAQC6OEZ5ULe6F6u2 Cybhqqfqqh2ao9sd2tpqB+HGIoMMHrmnD3YegRgZJIddTQaWKdwaKrYul21YNt5y ... • How can I create a hotkey to play/pause Pandora on OS X?

  I'm on OS X and want to have a hotkey (e.g. Cmd-Opt-P) to play/pause Pandora. I've used Butler to set one up for iTunes, but can't find a comparable solution for Pandora. I'm open to any solution (including apps, AppleScripts, etc.) that would allow me to bind a hotkey to play/pause, and I'm willing to use a paid solution as well. What can I do? Solutions I've looked into and/or tried: Pandora Boy: but the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work for me, despite following the instructions here. • iPhone SDK: Progressive UITableView updates, smoothly animated

  Hi all, There's something I've been trying to do with no success. I have an UITableView whose viewController is both its delegate and dataSource. On it I also have a mutableArray as a property, which basically acts as the tableView dataSource. This mutableArray gets continously updated from an online XML source. What I haven't been able to accomplish successfully is to animate the adding of new rows at the top of the tableView and the deletion of the oldest rows at its bottom (thinking I'll always going to show the same amount of data, say the latest 10 entries). The method I'm actually using is that, after finishing receiving and parsing the XML data I'm removing all the contents of the mutableArray and storing the new entries on it, to later reload the tableView (calling the 'reloadData' method). In between I'm using a CATransition in order to 'fade' the tableView from its previous to its new state. I tried using beginUpdates and endUpdates, with code for selectively removing the old rows from the tableView and adding the new ones to it, as well as to its datasource, however the animation takes place in the whole table instead of the affected rows only. What I want to accomplish is, after an update, to delete as many rows from the 'bottom' of the table as new entries I have retrieved, sliding the tableView down and adding the new rows at the top of it, smoothly animated. • How to generate an ear file from a maven-archetype-webapp artifact?

  I currently have a project built with maven-archetype-webapp artifact. The default packaging for this project is war. Is it possible for me to insert the maven-ear-plugin in this webapp pom.xml generate an ear file that contains this project war? I tried that, but the war file doesn't get embedded in the generated ear file. It has everything except the war file. I read many Maven related articles, and perhaps I could use maven-archetype-j2ee-simple artifact. However, I'm reluctant to this use for 2 reasons:- This artifact handles ejbs and all the extra features that I don't use. It makes my project looks bloated. Second, it seems like it requires me to install the web module into the repository first before I can create the ear file. Is this the preferred way to create an ear file? How do I create an ear file that contains the war file using maven-ear-plugin from my webapp's pom.xml? If this way is not possible, what's the preferred way? I'm sorry if my questions sound a little novice, I realized I have whole lot more to learn about Maven. Thanks much.

• Android - I can't make a widget clickable to launch an intent

When a user taps the button (after adding the widget to their home screen), I want the phone to dial a certain telephone number. A sort of speed dial for your home screen. • Android custom view - setting it to take up max space available but no more

  I have a custom View class in my app that I'm using in xml layouts. Wherever I'm using this view in my xml, I don't want it to stretch it's container, but I want it to fill out whatever space is available. Here's an example to make it a little clearer. I have a LinearLayout set to horizontal orientation with my custom view followed by a TextView. The TextView is going to stretch the LinearLayout so that it takes up the space it needs and no more. I want my custom view to take up the vertical space that the TextView has made available. Let's say the TextView ends up being 50px tall because of it's contents. The LinearLayout is thus stretched to about this height (not taking into account any margins or padding), so I just want the view to know it can stretch to that height and not "push on" its container. Without overriding and of the measurement methods of the base class (onMeasure, etc) my View is actually stretching to take up as much space as possible. I have already played around with wrap_content and fill_parent a bunch, so I'm assuming I need to do something in one of the View class' measure methods.

• Cassandra hot keyspace structure change

  Hello. I'm currently running a 12-node Cassandra cluster storing 4TB of data, with a replication factor set to 3. For the needs of an application update, we need to change the configuration of our keyspace, and we'd like to avoid any downtime if possible. I read on a mailing list that the best way to do it is to: Kill cassandra process on one server of the cluster Start it again, wait for the commit log to be written on the disk, and kill it again Make the modifications in the storage.xml file Rename or delete the files in the data directories according to the changes we made Start cassandra Goto 1 with next server on the list My questions would be: Did I understand the process well? Is there any risk of data corruption? During the process, there will be servers with different versions of the storage.xml file in the same cluser, same keyspace. Is it a problem? Same question as above if we not only add, rename and remove ColumnFamilies, but if we change the CompareWith parameter / transform an existing column family into a super one. Or do we need to change the name? Thank you for your answers. It's the first time I'll do this, and I'm a little bit scared.

• Eclipse won't believe I have Maven 2.2.1

  I have a project (built from an AppFuse template) that requires Maven 2.2.1. So I upgraded to this (from 2.1.0) and set my path and my M2_HOME and MAVEN_HOME env variables. Then I ran mvn eclipse:eclipse and imported the project into Eclipse (Galileo). However, in the problems list for the project (and at the top of the pom.xml GUI editor) it says: Unable to build project '/export/people/clegg/data/GanymedeWorkspace/funcserve/pom.xml; it requires Maven version 2.2.1 (Please ignore 'GanymedeWorkspace', I really am using Galileo!) This persists whether I set Eclipse to use its Embedded Maven implementation, or the external 2.2.1 installation, in the Preferences - Maven - Installations dialog. I've tried closing and reopening the project, reindexing the repository, cleaning the project, restarting the IDE, logging out and back in again, everything I can think of! But Eclipse still won't believe I have Maven 2.2.1. I just did a plugin update so I have the latest version of Maven Integration for Eclipse -- 0.9.8.200905041414. Does anyone know how to convince Eclipse I really do have the right version of Maven? It's like it's recorded the previous version somewhere else and won't pay any attention to my changes :-( Many thanks! Andrew.

  Hello, According to RFC 2109, 2965 cookie's value can be either HTTP token or quoted string, and token can't include non-ASCII characters. Cookie's RFC 2109 and RFC2965 HTTP's RFC 2068 token definition: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2068#page-16 However I had found that Firefox browser (3.0.6) sends cookies with utf-8 string as-is and three web servers I tested (apache2, lighttpd, nginx) pass this string as-is to the application. • How do I stop redirection after form submittion?

  I had a similar question posted here a few hours ago, just now I got the answer that I should look into using AJAX to do this. Since I want to complete this part of the site today I can't afford to learn AJAX from the basics to do this now.. This shouldn't be something difficult and I thougt that I would be able to do this but I'm not skilled enough... I have a form, when you click submit, it posts to twitter.com/statuses/update.xml and I need to be able to do so without being redirected there. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to learn AJAX? • Debian date jumping, causing complete lockup

  I have a Debian Squeeze VM that has suddenly chosen to jump it's date forwards just over a month, which seems to confuse it no end and cause it to require a hard reset (yikes!). There is nothing unusual in the logs, except that the datestamp suddenly jumps (today back to 2005). It's happened three times, so I don't think it's to do with the leap second issue as the last one of those was in July. When it happened once I spent ages checking stuff but could not find anything, decided to forget it. But three times is becoming an issue on a production server.   I'm calling in a RSS feed to my website using PHP. Currently my code below is calling in the entire contents for pubDate: <pubDate>Thu, 12 Sep 2013 07:23:59 +0000</pubDate> How do I just display the day and month from the above example i.e. 12 Sep? EDIT I should clarify, the above line of code is an example output I currently get but as I'm calling the latest 3 posts from an RSS feed, this date and time will vary. I therefore need the code to be more dynamic (if that's the right term!) • Why does waking a PC up with a timer act differently than with the power button?

  I have a Windows 7 machine set up as a server. It has no monitor and is only accessed through remote desktop. I set up two scheduled tasks, one to put the computer to sleep at night and another to wake it up in the morning. When it's woken up from sleep via a timer, it stays awake for only a couple minutes before going back to sleep. When woken up by pushing the power button, however, it stays awake all the way until the sleep timer. Why does my PC behave differently in these two scenarios? I have set the PC not to prompt for a user's password on wake, since I worried that the login screen might follow different power rules. I tried SmartPower Configuration but had the same problems. I can provide more details if questions are asked in the comments, but I'm not sure what's relevant.

  I've seen tutorials articles and posts on how to build datawarehouses with star and snowflakes schemas, denormalization of OLTP databases fact and dimension tables and so on. Also seen comments like: Star schemas are for datamarts, at best. There is absolutely no way a true enterprise data warehouse could be represented in a star schema, or snowflake either. I want to create a database that will server for reporting services and maybe (if that isn't enough) install analisys services and extract reports and data from cubes. My question was : Is it really necesarry to redesign my current database and follow the star/snowflake schemas with fact and dimension tables ? Thank you

• Every subsequent call to an Axis webservice fails

  I've been having a strange issue with an Axis webservice which is called through the https protocol. Basically, when an invocation is made, the call goes through just fine.   I ran into the following problem in dynamically creating topics for our ActiveMQ system: I have a number of processes (M_1, ..., M_n), where n is not large, typically 5-10. Some of the processes will listen to the output of others, through a message queue; these edges are specified in an XML file, e.g. <link from="M1" to="M3"</link> <link from="M2" to="M4"</link> <link from="M3" to="M4"</link> etc. The edges are sparse, so there won't be many of them. I will parse this XML and store this information in an SQL DB, one table for nodes and another for edges. Now, I need to dynamically create strings of the form M1.exe --output_topic=T1 M2.exe --output_topic=T2 M3.exe --input_topic=T1 --output_topic=T3 M4.exe --input_topic=T2 --input_topic=T3 where the tags are sequentially generated. What is the best way to go about querying SQL to obtain these relationships? Are there any tools or other tutorials you can point me to? I've never done graps with SQL. Using SQL is imperative, because we use it for other stuff, too. Thanks!

• What is likely cause of Android runtime exception "No suitable Log implementation" related to loggin

  I am creating an Android app that includes a third party jar. That third party jar utilizes internal logging that is failing to initialize when I run the app, with this error: "org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation". The 3rd party jar appears to be using org.apache.commons.logging and to depend on log4j, specifically log4j-1.2.14.jar. I have packaged the log4j jar into the Android app. The third party jar was packaged with a log4j.xml configuration file, which I have tried packaging into the app as an XML resource (and also as a raw resource). The "No suitable Log implementation" error message is not very descriptive, and I have no immediate familiarity with Java logging. So I am looking for likely causes of the problem (what class or configuration resources might I be missing?) or for some debugging technique that will result in a different error message that is more explicit about the problem. I do not have access to source code for the 3rd party jar. Here is the exception stack trace. When I run the app, I get the following exception as soon as one of the third party jar classes attempts to initialize its internal logging. • Android 1.5/1.6 issue with style and autogenerated R.java file

  I'm having strange issue with R.java file and styles defined in my resources. Here's some code: In res/values/strings.xml: <style parent="android:Theme.Dialog" name="PopupWindowStyle"> <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/bg1</item> <item name="android:textColor">@android:color/black</item> </style> In AndroidManifest.xml: <activity android:name=".RegisterScreen" android:icon="@drawable/ico" android:label="@string/applicationName" android:theme="@style/PopupWindowStyle" android:configChanges="locale|touchscreen|keyboard|keyboardHidden|navigation|orientation|fontScale"> </activity> In autogenerated gen/.../R.java: public static final class style { public static final int PopupWindowStyle=0x7f090000; } After some changes in the project, eclipse changed autogenerated value for PopupWindowStyle from 0x7f080000 to 0x7f090000. After that, on Android 1.5, RegisterScreen activity is displayed without PopupWindowStyle style - there is an error displayed in logcat: Skipping entry 0x7f090000 in package table 0 because it is not complex! On Android 1.6 however everything works fine - PopupWindowStyle works like it was before it's integer value has changed. I was testing this issue, by reverting the source code to older revisions. I can confirm, that this problem started occurring after src code commit, which changed two files completely unrelated to this part of code - and an autogenerated R.java file. Any idea what could cause that?

• Recommendations of a high volume log event viewer in a Java enviroment

  I am in a situation where I would like to accept a LOT of log events controlled by me - notably the logging agent I am preparing for slf4j - and then analyze them interactively. I am not as such interested in a facility that presents formatted log files, but one that can accept log events as objects and allow me to sort and display on e.g. threads and timelines etc. Chainsaw could maybe be an option but is currently not compatible with logback which I use for technical reasons. Is there any project with stand alone viewers or embedded in an IDE which would be suitable for this kind of log handling. I am aware that I am approaching what might be suitable for a profiler, so if there is a profiler projekt suitable for this kind of data acquisition and display where I can feed the event pipe, I would like to hear about it). Thanks for all feedback Update 2009-03-19: I have found that there is not a log viewer which allows me to see what I would like (a visual display of events with coordinates determined by day and time, etc), so I have decided to create a very terse XML format derived from the log4j XMLLayout adapted to be as readable as possible while still being valid XML-snippets, and then use the Microsoft LogParser to extract the information I need for postprocessing in other tools.

Views Layer This layer will be responsible for the users interface. This layer will always use the Controls Layer to create and edit objects; Control Layer This is my persistence layer, here Ill have all the NHibernate configuration. This is my critic point, because ListSingleton Project will have only my RemoteObject. (Here I have the App.config file) Models Layer Entity layer. Here I only have the entities classes and their respective mapping. I’ve done a test solution with no remoting and only with the projects of the Control and Model Layers. It was all working ok. Now that I added the Views Layer and set the solution to start with projects Client and Server (Client calls the Control Layer and this would do a try to persist a object) I’m getting a error at : Configuration cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.AddXmlFile("mapping/User.hbm.xml"); InnerException: {"Could not compile the mapping document: mapping/User.hbm.xml"} InnerException.InnerException: {"Could not find the dialect in the configuration"} StackTrace in the InnerException.InnerException " em NHibernate.Dialect.Dialect.GetDialect(IDictionary`2 props)\r\n em NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration.AddValidatedDocument(NamedXmlDocument doc)" But I know that there is no error in the mapping file because I used in my test application.

  Hi, I'm new to this rich faces and JSF i have developed one sample app and its working fine in tomcat6 now same app i have moved to WebSphear7 here i'm facing the problem.   I am using php-fpm. I recently recompiled php for including imap functions. But on php-fpm start it gives the following error: Starting php_fpm Error in argument 1, char 1: no argument for option - Usage: php-cgi [-q] [-h] [-s] [-v] [-i] [-f ] php-cgi [args...] -a Run interactively -C Do not chdir to the script's directory -c | Look for php.ini file in this directory -n No php.ini file will be used -d foo[=bar] Define INI entry foo with value 'bar' -e Generate extended information for debugger/profiler -f Parse . Is it in php-fpm.conf or php.ini.

• java logging nightmare and log4j not behaving as expected with spring + tomcat6

  I have a spring application that has configured log4j (via xml) and that runs on Tomcat6 that was working fine until we add a bunch of dependencies via Maven. At some point the whole application just started logging part of what it was supposed to be declared into the log4.xml "a small rant here" Why logging has to be that hard in java world? why suddenly an application that was just fine start behaving so weird and why it's so freaking hard to debug? I've been reading and trying to solve this issue for days but so far no luck, hopefully some expert here can give me some insights on this I've added log4j debug option to check whether log4j is taking reading the config file and its values and this is what part of it shows log4j: Level value for org.springframework.web is [debug]. log4j: org.springframework.web level set to DEBUG log4j: Retreiving an instance of org.apache.log4j.Logger. log4j: Setting [org.compass] additivity to [true]. log4j: Level value for org.compass is [debug]. log4j: org.compass level set to DEBUG As you can see debug is enabled for compass and spring.web but it only shows "INFO" level for both packages. My log4j config file has nothing out of extraordinary just a plain ConsoleAppender <log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/"> <!-- Appenders --> <appender name="console" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <param name="Target" value="System.out" /> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%-5p: %c - %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> What's the trick to make this work? What it's my misunderstanding here? Can someone point me in the right direction and explain how can I make this logging mess more bullet proof?
