• Ubuntu Surround Sound Help?

  I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Sony Vaio VGC-RB34G ( http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/sony-vaio-vgc-rb34g/4505-3118_7-31289053.html ) with an integrated Realtek High Definition Audio sound card. On Windows, I can set up the sound card to provide sound to my surround sound system from the Line Out, Line In, and Mic ports, as in all of these are producing audio. I have tried to use alsa to achieve this result with no luck. Is there any possible way to do this on Ubuntu? Thanks! • Is there a way I can sort traffic by page-type based upon URL structure in Google-Analytics or Google Webmaster Tools??

  I have a local business directory site. I'm trying to segment my incoming traffic by page-type such that i can find out what percentage of traffic is going to zip code pages exclusively and what percentage is going to city/state level pages. I basically want to filter by URL structure to find out what percentage of total traffic zip code pages account for. The reason for doing this is to find out if Does Google Tag Manager help with this? • IE HTML Debugger Causing Issues with IE Enhanced Security

  In an effort to debug a Silverlight component on a page in SharePoint I opened the Developer Tools in Internet Explorer.  After choosing the Find > Select Element by Click option my page refreshed for some reason and a small bar appeared at the top of the page reading: You may be trying to access this site from a secured browser on the server. Please enable scripts and reload this page. After a quick look around the internet, some seemed to be suggesting that you have to disable the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) in Server Manager.  Since this is one of the very first things I do when creating a VM, I figured the solution did not apply to me.  However, I decided to go ahead and enable IE ESC and then disable it again to see if that would fix the problem, and it did.  So if you see that error message in IE, the bar and you've already got IE ESC disabled, you can just enable it and disable it to get rid of the bar.

  Java.net, the home of  Java community projects, has been re-launched with a new look and new tools for developers.  The move from CollabNet to the Kenai infrastructure offers more flexibility for developers who want to host or contribute to community projects.  Instead of the large, fixed infrastructure per project (for example, several mailing lists per project), Kenai's ala carte features allow users to take only what they need. "We will continue to have the great mix of blogs, forums, and editorial content as well as new tools on the project side, including Mercurial, Git, and JIRA for developers," Java.net Community Manager Sonya Barry explains. The migration was huge effort. Over 1400 projects were migrated (and some 30 projects are left to go). A large part of the migration was a big cleanup of abandoned projects. With the high abandonment rate of open source projects, the was a lot to remove. • How do I tell my boss he made the wrong choice? [migrated]

  Recently, our biggest product failed majorly because we'd only used outsourced labor to do it, and they never tested anything, etc. Finally, our CEO decided that the US team should learn the code and fix it up. (Not a total rewrite, but lots of formatting/style changes, refactoring, etc). However, he knows next to nothing about programming (thankfully, he admits it). He had been grooming me to take on the project manager position, but I had to go back to college. Now he gave it to another programmer who is naive and inexperienced. I don't feel the naive programmer will do nearly as well. The CEO's reasoning is that the naive programmer can work full time and I can only do part time, so the less senior programmer could put more work into it. How can I convince him that 15 hours of my time is worth more than the other guy's 40?

  i have a dell N4110 laptop, and i want to know if the driver is installed and working well, something like the device manager in windows , or another way to know if a device is driverless or if the device might have a better driver, like my mousepad, in windows it have multi-touch gestures , that scrolls or zoom with two fingers (like an ipod) but in ubuntu it just works the right part as a scroll bar, so maybe it is installed one driver, but i need other one that uses well my devices. and the grphics card, i have not idea if it is well installed or isn't. i have a Intel 3000hd graphics card. thank you for your time. have a nice day people! =D

  By supporting tools, I mean: reference data manager, like virus definition for anti-virus software test data generator level builders for games simulators or advanced mocking systems Does the team building the core product (in the case above, the game or the anti-virus) should be part of the development of the supporting tools significantly, or this is a task you would outsourced out of the team to help it focus on the product? I don't have enough experience to evaluate the pros & cons of each, so I'm hopping you would come up with personal experiences to share, or even studies or papers you read on the subject.

  If you're wondering how to migrate your SharePoint databases to a new server, this Microsoft article is actually pretty useful, though still overly complex like most of their other articles. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx The one thing I would change is that they seem to recommend installing SQL Server Configuration Manager on web servers, when all that was needed in my case was to add an entry to the hosts file on the SharePoint web server that used the IP address of the new SQL Server with the name of the old SQL Server.  This might not be appropriate in cases where the old server is not being decommissioned.

• Need help with gimp 2.8 (cpu not used to full capacity) [closed]

  I know this isn't the right place to ask this question but maybe some one here can point me out to were I should place this question (or help me fix it :)). Since I updated Gimp to 2.8 (and let me start by saying how happy I am with the new gimp) I have notice that Gimp only uses 35% max of my CPU power. I have tried changing settings, assigning only one CPU to Gimp (both in gimp preference and in windblows task manager). No matter what settings I choose it only uses 35% of the cpu. If I assign just one Core to it then Gimp will use 100% of that core (which is about 35% of a three core processor I have. Any thoughts? I am using Windblows 7 64 bit, gimp 2.8.0, AMD a6-3500 cpu. I also use Ubuntu (am going to see if it works the same there). Any help would be great.

• How to lower wait time for repository updates

  When doing a aptitude update / apt-get update or using the Update Manager to update sometimes I get to a repository link that takes too long. The percent does not end and it takes quite a while before it ignores it. How can I lower the time so that if a particular repository takes more than 10 seconds to connect or finish it should ignore it and move the following ones. Here is an image explaining the problem: It is trying to connect to archive.ubuntu.com but since it is taking too long it just sits there for at least 3 to 5 minutes (Haven't measured the time) and then it shows as ignored and moves to the following. I wish to change that to seconds instead of minutes.

• Is it normal for 12.04 to occupy almost 4GB? Also, related questions

  I'm using a ASUS EeePC 901 and have some basic questions/issues. I installed 12.04 on the 4GB drive, selecting the option to erase it before doing so. Immediately after the installation I saw that Update Manager had over 100 updates pending. I attempted to install these, but was told that I had less than 100 MB remaining. Does the OS occupy all the other space? It seems that the best solution is to install 12.04 on the 16GB drive. Is this true? If I do this, what is the best way to erase the 4GB drive afterwards?

• Switching from Debug into Release Mode with VS2010 as IDE and Intel C++ Compiler 13

  I have a code of a Plug In from an SDK. The code is in Debug Mode. I use Intel Compiler which only applies optimizations in Release Mode. Under configuration manager of the project only "Debug" mode is defined. How could I switch to "Release" mode and enable all Intel Compiler's optimizations? If I enable them on debug mode nothing is applied (Empty Report). I couldn't find the trick to do so. Thank You.
