  • TFS: How to dectet changed files when loading a solution?

    I am new to TFS integration with Visual Studio 2010, and I have a problem I would like to solve. Practically, when I open a solution, how can I detect, looking only at the Solution Explorer which file has been changed since my last login? I am able to discover the changed files if I look at the Latest column of Source Control Explorer but it is not so intuitive. I attach you an image for better understanding. I would like to have a different icon, not the lock, for frmAbout.vb (in this case), associated to the item in Solution Explorer. Do you have any idea how can I achieve this behavior? Or some alternatives?

  • Is there a solution for deploying IIS websites that's similar to Capistrano?

    Capistrano is a great solution for building scripts that automatically deploy a website and/or a database. But, it's also very *nix centric, and from I've read it would probably be more trouble than it's worth to get it working with a Windows server. Is there a similar solution that would allow me to deploy an ASP.Net website to an IIS server and a SQL Server database? What I'm looking for is something that would allow the same kind of flexibility that Capistrano allows, as far customizing how I want the site to be deployed, what version control system I want to pull from, how it will handle rollbacks to a previous version of a site, etc. So far, I haven't been able to find a free solution that has the same sort of functionality that Capistrano has.

  • Why should I bother with unit testing if I can just use integration tests?

    Ok, I know I am going out on a limb making a statement like that, so my question is for everyone to convince me I am wrong. Take this scenario: I have method A, which calls method B, and they are in different layers. So I unit test B, which delivers null as a result. So I test that null is returned, and the unit test passes. Nice. Then I unit test A, which expects an empty string to be returned from B. So I mock the layer B is in, an empty string is return, the test passes. Nice again. (Assume I don't realize the relationship of A and B, or that maybe two differente people are building these methods) My concern is that we don't find the real problem until we test A and B togther, i.e. Integration Testing. Since an integration test provides coverage over the unit test area, it seems like a waste of effort to build all these unit tests that really don't tell us anything (or very much) meaningful. Why am I wrong?

    Hello, We are going to set up a solution where the iPhone is requesting data from the server. We have the option to decide what kind of solution to put in place and we are not sure about which way to go. Regarding SOAP I think I have the answer, there are no really stable solution for doing this (I know there are solutions, but I want something stable). How about REST? Or is it better to just create our own XML? It's not going to be so complicated reguest/respons-flow. Thanks in advance!

  • Visual Studio: How to override the default "Build Action" for certain extension types per project or solution?

    I'm serving my asp.net mvc views from many assemblies and copying views to the main application on post-build event. This works, however, I realized, that when I change something in view and just hit F5, changes are not included. What I have to do to see changes is to: save, build<- explicitly clicking, and then hit F5. However, it's pretty annoying solution. I discovered that setting Build action to "Embedded Resource" on view solves the problem as well, however other devs may not remember that they have to do this after adding every view to the solution. Is there a way to override the default build action for certain file extensions, such as: *.aspx, *.ascx in project or (better) in solution ? What I've found is an ability to add this setting globally, per machine, but I do not want to do that (link: http://blog.andreloker.de/post/2010/07/02/Visual-Studio-default-build-action-for-non-default-file-types.aspx) Any ideas ?

    I see from poking around in the 1.4.4 source that Autofac's ASP.NET integration (via Autofac.Integration.Web) peforms injection of properties on the Page as part of the HttpContext.PreRequestHandlerExecute event handling, but that the page's child controls don't get their properties injected until Page.PreLoad. What this means, though is that the injected properties of child controls are unavailable for use in the OnInit event handler. For example, this works fine: HelloWorld.aspx: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="HelloWorld.aspx.cs" Inherits="HelloWorld" %> <html> <body> <asp:Label runat="server" id="lblMsg" OnInit="HandleInit"/> </body> </html> HelloWorld.aspx.cs: ... protected void HandleInit() { lblMsg.Text = _msgProvider.GetMessage(); } public IMsgProvider _msgProvider { private get; set; } // <-- Injected But changing the HelloWorld Page to a UserControl (.acsx) and putting the UserControl in another page doesn't work because _msgProvider isn't injected early enough.     Anyone have a good solution for scraping the HTML source of a page with content (in this case, HTML tables) generated with Javascript? The problem, of course, is being dependent on on an external web service, especially given that SIMILE seems to undergo regular server maintenance. :( A pure php solution would be nice, but any functional (and reliable) alternatives would be great.
