  • Alternative to MS Dynamics CRM 4.0?

    hi, A customer of mine have been testing a trial of MS CRM 4.0 that I installed for them, but they concluded that it might be a bit heavy for them. I promised them to look into other CRM applications that use SQL Server as the backend and preferably has an Outlook plugin so you can do "CRM Stuff" directly from Outlook. If anyone knows about alternatives, I would appreciate it if you leave a link here!

  • How can virtualization be efficient?

    As I understand, the virtual machine and the guest OS doubles the amount of abstraction layers (that are computationally relevant) between the user interface and the pure power of the hardware. Some of the said abstraction layers are (emulated) hardware, drivers, IO interfaces, etc. Top-notch virtualization solutions like Xen probably eliminate a few of these complexities, but I still wonder how efficiency is achieved in these environments; and whether manageable cloud servers are really worth the performance price.

  • Store ESX5 images on a NAS?

    I have a basic NAS device (Buffallo LinkStation Duo) that can only present SMB fileshares to the network. For testing annd for getting a dying physical machine working I would like to store my VMDK on here. Is that possible, or will I have to find some way of presenting this as an iSCSI target of some sort? I've only used iSCSI or local storage in the past, but this isn't possible at the moment.   • Slow WLAN file transfer between server and tablet

    My file server is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm sharing files from it over samba. It is connected via gigabit ethernet. My desktop, running Windows 8.1, is also connected via gigabit ethernet. I can transfer files between the two and completely saturate that gigabit pipe. However, I just got a Surface Pro 2, and I'm trying to stream HD movies from my server to the device over WiFi. For some reason, I can't break much past 1.5MB/s transferring files over the network. I've tried streaming through XBMC and a standard file copy; no difference. To add the confusion, if I connect to my guest network and then use my VPN server (installed on the router) to access the file server, I get around 3.2MB/s. I've been running diagnostics to determine the root and I think I've found it but I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it.   • Is it possible to modify/rebuild an rpm without the srpm?

    I have an rpm for which I need to change the preinstal scriptlet for testing. However, I do not have the SRPM from which is was built. Is it possible to change the scriptlet and/or rebuild the rpm without having the SRPM? If so, how? I've tried using Midnight Commander (mc) to open the rpm as a directory structure and edit the contents, but even with 444 permissions, it won't let me save any changes.

  • Safe to disable compile options for Nginx (when used only as reverse proxy/cache)

    I have read that I can do this to make a smaller footprint Nginx when used as static content cache/reverse proxy: --without-mail_pop3_module --without-mail_imap_module --without-mail_smtp_module What other options are safe to disable? SSI, FastCGI? Others? The only requirements for the reverse proxy is to be able to do https and gzip compression. Will disabling all the module really help with footprint and/or performance?

  • Outlook 2007 + Windows 7 + Exchange Server = slow sync

    I just upgraded a Vista machine to Windows 7. The machine is running Outlook 2007 SP2 with the KB970944 performance hot fix. Now, syncing to the Exchange server can take 20 minutes, whereas it was very fast before the Windows 7 upgrade. I believe we're running Exchange 2003, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone else seeing this? Any fixes yet?

    With FFMPEG how do i encode a lossless codec (ATM i am testing with another flac) to a flac file with the highest compression level. With MediaMonkey i was able to compress to level 8 and i recompressed with ffmpeg and it matched the output of a level 6 compress. Even with -aq 8. How do i set it to the highest compression?

  • How do I disable Aero transparency in Firefox 4?

    I noticed that the transparent interface in Firefox 4 for Windows 7 is really curbing performance. After Googling for a method to disable Aero for Firefox, however, I got no results. There just doesn't seem to be a straight forward (such as a simple Boolean to turn it off in about:config) method to get rid of Aero effects. Is it even possible in the Firefox 4 beta? I'm using Firefox 4 beta 12 (soon to be beta 13 after the update).

    I would like to setup Windows Server 2008 R2 using RemoteFX at home, for a couple of users to all use the server (instead of buying each user a seperate computer). I have been trying to find what processors (Intel based) that support the SLAT that is apparently needed to run RemoteFX. I currently have a computer that has an i3 processor, but after testing it shows that it will not support it. Does anyone know which processors from Intel do support this?

  • Is it possible to change the Raid5 chunk size of an existing device?

    I have an existing raid5 device which I created using mdadm on Linux. When I created the device I set the chunk size to 64 but I would like to test the performance of various sizes but I don't want to have to rebuild my entire system to do so. If it is not possible to do it live then is it possible to do this by booting with a rescue disk? Any advice on the steps how to do this, either live or with a rescue disk, will be greatly appreciated.

Using IIRF I can do the rewrite, but only if I use the [R] modifier flag which makes the rewrite a redirect. Is there a way for me to transparently rewrite requests to a subdomain?   • Can I boot my notebook via eSata pci-xpress card?

    I would like to boot directly from an external hard disk to improve performance over my internal notebook hard disk. My notebook has no native eSata jack but a pci express card. As my BIOS doesn't support the card on boot time so no way directly booting it. My question is, is it possible to work around this issue by using an USB stick or similar with a boot loader like grub and if so, will this only work for Linux or Windows as well?

    Now that Windows Server 2012 comes with de-duplication features for NTFS volumes I am having a hard time finding technical details about it. I can deduce from the TechNet documentation that the de-duplication action itself is an asynchronous process - not unlike how the SIS Groveler used to work - but there is virtually no detail about the implementation (algorithms used, resources needed, even the info on performance considerations is nothing but a bunch rule-of-thumb-style recommendations). Insights and pointers are greatly appreciated, a comparison to Solaris' ZFS de-duplication efficiency for a set of scenarios would be wonderful.
