  • how to subtract circle from an arbitrary polygon

    - by George
Given an arbitary polygon with vertices stored in either clockwise/counterclockwise fashion (depicted as a black rectangle in the diagram), I need to be able to subtract an arbitrary number of circles (in red on the diagram) from that polygon. Removing a circle could possibly split the polygon into two seperate polygons (as depicted by the second line in the diagram). I'm not sure where to start. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?89a0276d9d.jpg

  • Floating point mantissa bias

    - by user69514
    Does anybody know how to go out solving this problem? * a = 1.0 × 2^9 * b = -1.0 × 2^9 * c = 1.0 × 2^1 Using the floating-point (the representation uses a 14-bit format, 5 bits for the exponent with a bias of 16, a normalized mantissa of 8 bits, and a single sign bit for the number), perform the following two calculations, paying close attention to the order of operations. * b + (a + c) = ? * (b + a) + c = ?

  • How do I do the SQL equivalent of "DISTINCT" in CouchDB?

    - by Blaine LaFreniere
    I have a bunch of MP3 metadata in couchDB. I want to return every album that is in the MP3 metadata, but no duplicates. A typical document looks like this: { "_id": "005e16a055ba78589695c583fbcdf7e26064df98", "_rev": "2-87aa12c52ee0a406084b09eca6116804", "name": "Fifty-Fifty Clown", "number": 15, "artist": "Cocteau Twins", "bitrate": 320, "album": "Stars and Topsoil: A Collection (1982-1990)", "path": "Cocteau Twins/Stars and Topsoil: A Collection (1982-1990)/15 - Fifty-Fifty Clown.mp3", "year": 0, "genre": "Shoegaze" }

  • Automatically generating better views for ASP.NET MVC

    - by Casebash
I am currently watching the 80 minute ASP.NET MVC introduction. Automatically generating views from a model is pretty neat, but it seems to me that that the automatically generated views could be much better. For a start, instead of inputing dates with text boxes, there could be a date control. Additionally, number inputs could be verified client side. There are probably other improvements that could be made as well. Is it possible to automatically generate better views?

Hello How can I get page faults statistics from kernel for my application while it is running? What about other events, like inter-cpu migrations count in SMP nodes, or number of context switches? I want to count such events for various small parts of the program. Thanks.

  • Convert .cshrc to .bashrc

    - by Bobby
I am new to Linux and I am trying to compile some code that needs environment variables set first. The script is in cshrc, but whenever I try to run that code I get "if: badly formed number" errors. I want to run it in bash instead. Is there an easy way to convert cshrc to bashrc?

  • Evenly distibuted scatterViewItems that dont overlap

    - by Christo Fur
Hi I have an app that creates a variable number of ScatterviewItems based on which tagged object is placed on the surface table. The ScatterViewItems are added programatically to the ScatterView based on info looked up in a DB The Scatterview does a good job of displaying this info However, I would like them to be evenly distributed across the table and not have any items overlapping Any ideas how to do that?

  • How to extract the word and line wrapping information from JTextArea for text with given font

    - by Gábor Lipták
I have to convert styled text to wrapped simple text (for SVG word wrapping). I cannot beleive that the word wrapping information (how many lines are there, where are the line breaks) cannot be extracted from the JTextArea. So I created a small frame program: package bla; import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Font; import java.awt.Frame; import java.awt.event.WindowAdapter; import java.awt.event.WindowEvent; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import javax.swing.JTextArea; public class Example1 extends WindowAdapter { private static String content = "01234567890123456789\n" + "0123456 0123456 01234567 01234567"; JTextArea text; public Example1() { Frame f = new Frame("TextArea Example"); f.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); Font font = new Font("Serif", Font.ITALIC, 20); text = new JTextArea(); text.setFont(font); text.setForeground(Color.blue); text.setLineWrap(true); text.setWrapStyleWord(true); f.add(text, BorderLayout.CENTER); text.setText(content); // Listen for the user to click the frame's close box f.addWindowListener(this); f.setSize(100, 511); f.show(); } public static List<String> getLines( JTextArea text ) { //WHAT SHOULD I WRITE HERE return new ArrayList<String>(); } public void windowClosing(WindowEvent evt) { List<String> lines = getLines(text); System.out.println( "Number of lines:" + lines.size()); for (String line : lines) { System.out.println( line ); } System.exit(0); } public static void main(String[] args) { Example1 instance = new Example1(); } } If you run it you will see this: And what I expect as output: Number of lines:6 0123456789 0123456789 0123456 0123456 01234567 01234567 What should I write in place of the comment?

  • PInvokeStackImbalance C# call to unmanaged C++ function

    - by user287498
After switching to VS2010, the managed debug assistant is displaying an error about an unbalanced stack from a call to an unmanaged C++ function from a C# application. The usuals suspects don't seem to be causing the issue. Is there something else I should check? The VS2008 built C++ dll and C# application never had a problem, no weird or mysterious bugs - yeah, I know that doesn't mean much. Here are the things that were checked: The dll name is correct. The entry point name is correct and has been verified with depends.exe - the code has to use the mangled name and it does. The calling convention is correct. The sizes and types all seem to be correct. The character set is correct. There doesn't seem to be any issues after ignoring the error and there isn't an issue when running outside the debugger. C#: [DllImport("Correct.dll", EntryPoint = "SuperSpecialOpenFileFunc", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, ExactSpelling = true)] public static extern short SuperSpecialOpenFileFunc(ref SuperSpecialStruct stuff); [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Pack = 1, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi)] public struct SuperSpecialStruct { public int field1; [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 256)] public string field2; [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 20)] public string field3; [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 10)] public string field4; public ushort field5; public ushort field6; public ushort field7; public short field8; public short field9; public uint field10; public short field11; }; C++: short SuperSpecialOpenFileFunc(SuperSpecialStruct * stuff); struct SuperSpecialStruct { int field1; char field2[256]; char field3[20]; char field4[10]; unsigned short field5; unsigned short field6; unsigned short field7; short field8; short field9; unsigned int field10; short field11; }; Here is the error: Managed Debugging Assistant 'PInvokeStackImbalance' has detected a problem in 'Managed application path'. Additional Information: A call to PInvoke function 'SuperSpecialOpenFileFunc' has unbalanced the stack. This is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Check that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.

  • How many copies of files are needed by video server?

    - by Trilok
A quick question. How many copies of the same movie are kept in a video server (a video streaming server)? Suppose a particular video is at max requested by 1000 users at the same instant of time, how many copies would be sufficient so that parallel streams can be provided to each user? Ideally 1 copy would solve the purpose, but what is the optimum number keeping the bandwidth and simultaneous access in mind?

  • ASP.NET MVC users - do you miss anything from WebForms?

    - by Richard Ev
There are lots of articles and discussions about the differences between ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC that compare the relative merits of the two frameworks. I have a different question for anyone who has experience using WebForms that has since moved to MVC: What is the number one thing that WebForms had, that MVC doesn't, that you really miss? Edit No-one has mentioned the WebForms validation controls. I am now working on some code that has a few dependant validation rules and implementing client-side validation for these is proving slow.

  • Displaying multidimensional data in WPF

    - by KrisTrip
What is the best way to display multidimensional data in WPF? I want to use databinding and I won't know the size/shape of the data until runtime. I was thinking some sort of grid but I don't know how to dynamically bind to the data and have it figure out the number of rows and columns. Suggestions and examples please?
