  Looking at running pfSense on an old P3 866Mhz. It's noisy, I'd like to passively-cool it, downclocking is ok as this is more than enough horsepower for my needs at home. Obviously I'm cheaping out here: wonder if I bigger heatsink will do and how much case flow I need (it's in a standard mid-tower ATX case).

• SSH login very slow on OS X Leopard

  My SSH sessions take a very long time to initiate. This applies for logins with and without passwords, interactive and non-interactive. I have tried setting 'GSSAPIAuthentication no' and 'IPQoS 0x00' on the client side, and 'UseDNS no' on the server side, but no dice. I'm really stumped and frustrated. The worst part is that it SFTP takes forever to establish connections too, making file transfer much longer than it would be otherwise. I thought the problem might be something with PAM, because of where the hang is in the sshd log below, so I tried commenting out each line one-by-one in the /etc/pam.d/sshd file. Some caused login to be impossible, some had no apparent effect. I can't really tell if PAM is stalling for other services, but I can say that su'ing into my account from another account with 'su -l' has no apparent delay. I tried creating a new user account, just to see if there was something wrong with my existing account, and the same problem persisted. Any ideas of what's going on? Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors. (in reply to MAIL FROM command)) My hoster will not help me get that address removed from the blacklist. So I tried to find a way to do it on my own, but I can't find a way to ask Microsoft to remove my IP from that list. Has anyone managed to remove a falsely listed address? And if yes: how?

• New power supply and now HDDs are not recognized.

  So I upgraded to a new X4 ULTRA power supply that was recommended to me by a local TigerDirect store. After installing it along with a new liquid cooling system, I booted it up and it automatically fried my CD Drive. After that I noticed that the OS wouldn't start and figured out that none of the 4 HDDs in my computer were being recognized by the BIOS. I feel them spool at a steady pace and have tried new cables and connections but to no avail. I triple checked all of the connections and cables and have no idea what is wrong. This isn't the first time I changed a PS or CPU cooling system but I am at a dead end. Any ideas, aside from buying a USB HDD reader and seeing if they are all fried? Also, this is a stock Gateway mobo with the mobo USB connections already dead. Could the new PS have fried the SATA connections??

  On windows, when I plugged in the usb connector, to the device was recognized as a mass storage device and installed all the drivers, to my computer, then the device, automatically restarted and started behaving like a modem, I'm writing this post, using the same modem, through windows... On linux mint (debian kernel, similar to ubuntu 8.10), the device is recognized as a mass storage device, some times, but, has no programs, useful for linux... When I use the modem on windows and restart the computer and login to linux, the device shows up as "not yet configured" in the terminal command "lsusb"... I googled a lot for solutions, tried many things, atlast, configured it and run the command "wvdial". But, get the error, that the modem is not responding, at last ! :'( Please help me out... Many more people are facing this problem, as I could discover, when I googled for it. this is the website address of huawei, the company of my modem...   I pinned Windows Explorer's icon to my taskbar months ago, and all worked fine, including jump lists. Note: I changed the default Explorer's folder using the usual trick of changing the GUID in the shortcut. Now, all of a sudden, the jump list is empty, and dropping folders on the pinned icon does not produce any effect, nor recently-opened folders show up in the list (although in the taskbar options I made sure to have it remember recently open items). How can I restore the original functionality, given that all other pinned applications jump lists work correctly? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, updated with the latest patches. The OS is in US English and my locale is Italian-Italy.

  My Canon IP3000 printer recently started having problems with the black ink. Anything printed in black comes out striped, alternating between dark and light. An example is below. I've tried the following: Running the printer utility's head cleaning and "deep cleaning" a few times Running the utility's head alignment Replacing the ink cartridge with a new one Removing the print head and cleaning the bottom with denatured alcohol Anything else I can try before throwing this thing away? I'm considering buying a replacement print head, but is this likely to be solved by replacing the head?

  Hi all, I'm working from Vista a laptop on a WLAN, my pictures are all on a shared (samba) network drive on a FreeNAS system, which has a wired network connection to the WLAN router (DLink 655). I'v noticed that when i try to upload pics to picassa, and select files from the network share the pics won't upload successfully. If i first copy them locally (on the laptop) and then upload them to picassa, everything works fine. If i try to copy smaller pics (<500kB) it doesnt go wrong Anybody know what is going wrong here?

• Why my laptop doesnt boot in any OS (windows or ubuntu) after RAM upgrade?

  My laptop previously had 2 slots of RAM ( 1x1Gb , 1x2GB , both were clocked at 1066mhz) and it was working on windows 7 x86 OS. I Upgraded the ram with ( 2x4GB clcoked at 1333mhz). Bios displayed 8192MB of memory and windows was working ok but (only 2.99GB of ram from 8gb was avabile). So i decided to switch to an x64 system to be able to use all the amount of memory. But the laptop wasnt able to install any os (windows 7 x64 or windows 8 x64) so i placed the 3gb of ram instead of 8gb. Then i succesfully instaled an x64 os (windows 8). After than i placed the 8gb ram back again. Now the computer doesnt boot in the os but bios is working normally. I tried also to install ubuntu , without any succes. What should i do ?? All the help will be appreciated. thanks

  On my portable hard drive I set icons for almost every organized folder. All these icons are located in an Icons folder located on the root directory of the same hard drive. When I change the drive letter of the hard drive (well I don't, windows does automatically sometimes) these icons are lost. So far this hard drive is assigned to F: While it's not a problem now, it may becomes a problem if I upgrade my computer or get a new one and the F: Drive is already taken up for something else. It's also annoying on networks where F: is mapped to a network drive.

• Exchange Online SMTP Not Working With Any Email Client

  I am trying to switch our company mail server to exchange online. I have successfully added my domain and users and can send and receive mails through Outlook Web App. I can also send and receive if I configure my Outlook 2013 client using Exchange protocol. However, some folks in company are using Thunderbird and some old Outlook Clients. For those, I tried to connect to Exchange via IMAP/SMTP. This is what I use, For incoming, IMAP / Port : 993 with SSL / Host : outlook.office365.com For outgoing, SMTP / Port : 589 with TSL / Host : smtp.office365.com I can receive emails, however I could not be able to send emails. I keep getting An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 4.3.2 Service not active. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again. My username and password are correct, I am using my mail address as my username to mailbox. I also tried sending mail via C# application which was working for outlook.com and gmail.com SMTP settings. It also fails to send emails and returns the same error code. I thought TB and other old clients such as Office 2003 might not support Exc. Online so I tried same settings in Office 2013. It successfully connected my mailbox when checking for configuration but failed in sending test message and returned the same error code. Configuration for incoming and outgoing mailbox are taken from here. They are also available on Office 365 user page and they are same. What could be the reason for error ?

  Replaced Graphics card because screen would go black at a certain temp while gaming, but sound would stay on (but locked up). Then with replacement card whole PC shuts off during gaming now because the CPU is overheating. Note: CPU is only supposed to go up to 71C max according to manufacturer and it goes well over upon load. System Temp: 30C TL;DR: Idling CPU at 65C, started to shut down due to overheating, re-place (CPU, or CPU and Motherboard) or re-paste?

• How do I configure a new (non-OS) raid device under Windows 7?

  I recently installed 3 new 1TB drives in my Windows 7 (64 bit) system. These are in addition to the 10k rpm disk that I already have running the Windows 7 OS. My intent is to create a RAID 5 volume with the 3 disks. I don't seem to have a problem configuring the bios and creating the resulting 1.9 TB RAID volume. I run in to the problem when I try booting in to Windows. I get a quick flash of a blue screen and then am prompted by windows to do a repair. It tries to repair and then reboots. This sequence lasts indefinitely. If I re-configure the bios back to non-RAID (ACHI) then windows boots fine. The strange thing is that the 1.9 TB volume I configured through the bios actually shows up in windows! Strange since the motherboard is not set up with RAID. I assume that I somehow have to install the RAID drivers from the mobo manufacturer. How do I do this? Is the reason I'm getting the blue screen a result of not having the RAID drivers installed? It's strange because I can find plenty of documentation on how to set up RAID and do a fresh install Windows on to the RAID device, but nothing on how to set up a RAID device on an already running system. Advice is appreciated.
