  • Our Favorite Highlights from OpenWorld 2012

    By Kathy Miedema and Misha Vaughan, Oracle Applications User Experience The Oracle Applications User Experience (UX) team’s activities around OpenWorld expand every year, but this year we certainly raised the bar.   Members of our team helped deliver three, separate, all-day training events in the week prior to OpenWorld. Our Fusion User Experience Advocates (FXA) and Applications UX Sales Ambassadors (SAMBA) have all-new material around the Oracle user experience to deliver at conferences in the coming year - Fusion Applications design patterns, mobile design patterns, and the new face of Fusion. We also delivered a hands-on workshop sharing user experience tools for our customers that is designed to answer this question: "If I have no UX staff, what do I do?" We also spent the weeks just before OpenWorld preparing to talk about the new face of Fusion Applications, a greatly simplified entry experience into Fusion Applications for self-service users, CRM users, and IT managers who want to change the look and feel quickly. Special thanks to Oracle ACE Director Floyd Teter for the first mention of our project.Jeremy Ashley, VP, Oracle Applications User Experience Customers may have seen one of the many OpenWorld session demos of the new face of Fusion, which will be available with Fusion Applications soon. It was shown in sessions by Oracle's Chris Leone, Anthony Lye, and our own Vice President, Jeremy Ashley, among others.   Leone reinforced the importance of user experience as one of three main design principles for Fusion Applications, emphasizing that Fusion was designed from the beginning to be intelligent, social, and mobile. User experience highlights of the new face of Fusion, he said, included the need for "zero training," and he called the experience "easy to use." He added that deploying it for HCM self-service would be effortless.  Customers take part in a usability lab tour during OpenWorld 2012. Customers also may have seen the new face of Fusion on the demogrounds or during one of our teams' chartered lab tours at the end of the week. We tested other new designs at our on-site lab in the Intercontinental Hotel, next to Moscone West. Applications User Experience team members show eye-tracking and mobile demos at OOW. We were also excited to kick off new branches of the Oracle Usability Advisory Board, which now has groups in Latin America and the Middle East, in addition to North America and EMEA.   And we were pleasantly surprised by the interest in one of our latest research projects, Oracle Voice, which is designed to enable faster data input for on-the-go users.   • How Do I Log Into CertView?

This change requires candidates to authenticate their CertView accounts before being able to access their exam results.   • Catalyst forgets monitor settings after reboot or log out in 12.10

    I have a Samsung monitor connected to my ATI Radeon graphic card via HDMI. By default the screen has a black border around, but I can disable it in the Catalyst menu to get full screen. (There is a scalebar that I have to set to the highest value.) My problem is that every time I turn off and on my computer it changes back and I have to set it up again. It is really annoying. Is there any way to make this setting permanent? Notes: 1. I open Catalyst with admin rights. 2. When I open the Catalyst settings menu, it looks like that it keeps my settings, because the scalebar stays at the highest point, but still it doesn't scale up my screen until I move back and forth the scale bar to the same point

  • Cannot see user desktop when I log in

    I am very new to Ubuntu. I recently got a new laptop running Windows 7. I am using Virtual Box and just installed the Ubuntu 12.10 ISO as a new Virtual Machine within Virtual Box. Everything seemed to install just fine and I even added the Guest Additions under Devices. The problem is that I cannot see the menus and my login information. The virtual machine says it is running; however, I do not have the Applications, Places, System, etc. tray to select from. Is there something I am supposed to do after logging in to get this? I entered my password and everything seemed fine, I just don't have those drop-down menus available... Thank You! Jesi

I was thinking is here any application or method which shows what data is copied to which USB (if name available then shows name or otherwise device id ). and what data is beign copied to ubuntu machine . It is some like history of USB and System data . i think this feature is in KDE this will really useful in may ways. it provides real time and monitoring utility to monitor USB mass storage devices activities on any machine .

  • log in to web-app through less secure website [on hold]

    We are worried about the security of our website containing the login-button to our saas-application. Security measures put in place for our application won't do us much good if the website is hacked. The login button could be redirected to some malicious copy of our app. The product website is maintained by people outside the dev team. Those people are not too knowledgable concerning security. We (dev-team) could mantain the website ourselves but that would be a large burden on our small team. How is this usually handled?

  • How to consolidate multiple LOG files into one .LDF file in SQL2000

    Here is what sp_helpfile says about my current database (recovery model is Simple) in SQL2000: name fileid filename size maxsize growth usage MasterScratchPad_Data 1 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Data.MDF 6041600 KB Unlimited 5120000 KB data only MasterScratchPad_Log 2 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Log.LDF 2111304 KB Unlimited 10% log only MasterScratchPad_X1_Log 3 E:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_X1_Log.LDF 191944 KB Unlimited 10% log only I'm trying to prepare this for a detach then an attach to a sql2008 instance but I don't want to have the 2nd .LDF file (I'd like to have just one file for the log). I have backed up the database. I have issued: BACKUP LOG MasterScratchPad WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY. I have run multiple DBCC SHRINKFILE commands on both of the LOG files. How can I accomplish this goal of having just one .LDF? I cannot find anything on how to delete the one with fileid of 3 and/or how to consolidate multiple files into one log file.

    I'm using sysklogd 1.5.5. All I want is to get local0 entries in /var/log/vr file. My conf: *.*;local0.none /var/log/messages local0.* /var/log/vr When I do logger -p local0.info "local0 test from logger" the message appear in /var/log/vr file. That's ok. But the following sends message to /var/log/messages instead of /var/log/vr: #include <stdlib.h> #include <syslog.h> int main(int argc, char const* argv[]) { openlog(NULL, LOG_PID, LOG_LOCAL0); syslog(LOG_INFO, "local0 test from app\n"); closelog(); return 0; } Where am I wrong?

  • How to convert my backup.cmd into something I can run in Linux?

    Back in the day when i was using windows(and a noob at everything IT) i liked batch scripting so much that i wrote a lot of them and one i am pretty proud of that is my backup.cmd(see below). I am pretty basic with the linux bash sudo/apt-get/sl/ls/locate/updatedb/etc... I don't really know the full power of the terminal.
