    The question wasn't clear enough, I think; here's an updated straight to the point question: What are the common architectures used in building a meta search engine and is there any libraries available to build that type of search engine? I'm looking at building an "enterprise" type of search engine where the indexed data could be coming from proprietary (like Autonomy or a Google Box) or public search engines (like Google Web or Yahoo Web).

    I've got a basic ExtJS question, which I can't seem to resolve based on reading the docs and searching. Currently I have a TreePanel that loads JSON directly from a URL. I'm trying to separate the data from the view, so that I can also use that data to feed into an OpenLayers map (using GeoExt). How can I point a TreePanel to an Ext.data.Store rather than to a URL?

  • Suggestions on documentation of a DB model when using Entity Framework 4

    Any experiences on how to document Entity Framework 4 based Database projects? There is the Document and Summary properties on the Entities, but if we want to regenerate the model from the database at some point, it will be lost! Is there some way to map documentation data inside SQL to the Entities in the EDMX file so it is safe. Suggestions of other best practices? Ideally I want to be able to augo generate html/helpfile documentation from the DB when we deploy.

  • Cannot evaluate expression error in ONE project for years

    Just tired to see this error every time for years only in ONE project: "Cannot evaluate expression because a thread is stopped at a point where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code is optimized" Almost every property or field displays this message. From vs2005+.net2.0 to vs2008+.net3.5 now. Does anybody know how to fix it?

    I've got two hard disks in my computer, and have installed Solaris 10u8 on the first and Opensolaris 2010.3 (dev onnv_134) on the second. Both systems uses ZFS and were independently created with a zpool name of 'rpool'. While running Solaris 10u8 on the first disk, how do I mount the second ZFS hard disk (at /dev/dsk/c1d1s0) on an arbitrary mount point (like /a) for diagnostics?

  • how to customize django admin for clickable list_editable

    Hi all, Currently, i have a class MyAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin), and i have a field in there called name, which belongs to both list_editable and list_display. The current behavior is such that all fields that is in list_editable displays a form field. However, i would like to change that only when people click on the field would it turn into a editable form field.     I have a site and already trying to do a little url rewritting but want to know if there is a solution to make it better my current state urls look like this http://snit.us/Home/tabid/314/CN/1/RE/23/United_States_Missouri.aspx I want to change them to something more ordered so in my new scheme i want to do this http://snit.us/Home/United_States/Missouri/default.aspx obviously the point is that if i remove missouri from the new url it would find all United_States - etc etc etc even better would be to have http://snit.us/Home/United_States/Missouri so its even less cluttered

  • Smoke testing a .NET web application

    I cannot believe I'm the first person to go through this thought process, so I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with it. Current situation: developers write a web site, operations deploy it. Once deployed, a developer Smoke Tests it, to make sure the deployment went smoothly. To me this feels wrong, it essentially means it takes two people to deploy an application; in our case those two people are on opposite sides of the planet and timezones come into play, causing havoc. But the fact remains that developers know what the minimum set of tests is and that may change over time (particularly for the web service portion of our app). Operations, with all due respect to them (and they would say this themselves), are button-pushers who need a set of instructions to follow. The manual solution is that we document the test cases and operations follow that document each time they deploy. That sounds painful, plus they may be deploying different versions to different environments (specifically UAT and Production) and may need a different set of instructions for each. On top of this, one of our near-future plans is to have an automated daily deploy environment, so then we'll have to instruct a computer as to how to deploy a given version of our app. I would dearly like to add to that instructions for how to smoke test the app. Now developers are better at documenting instructions for computers than they are for people, so the obvious solution seems to be to use a combination of nUnit (I know these aren't unit tests per se, but it is a built-for-purpose test runner) and either the Watin or Selenium APIs to run through the obvious browser steps and call to the web service and explain to the Operations guys how to run those unit tests. I can do that; I have mostly done it already. But wouldn't it be nice if I could make that process simpler still? At this point, the Operations guys and the computer are going to have to know which set of tests relate to which version of the app and tell the nUnit runner which base URL it should point to (say, www.example.com = v3.2 or test.example.com = v3.3). Wouldn't it be nicer if the test runner itself had a way of giving it a base URL and letting it download say a zip file, unpack it and edit a configuration file automatically before running any test fixtures it found in there? Is there an open source app that would do that? Is there a need for one? Is there a solution using something other than nUnit, maybe Fitnesse? For the record, I'm looking at .NET-based tools first because most of the developers are primarily .NET developers, but we're not married to it. If such a tool exists using other languages to write the tests, we'll happily adapt, as long as there is a test runner that works on Windows.

    We are designing an online application (college admission form) which mandates the user to upload a scanned copy of his photo along with his signature, so that this information can be used to cross verify the applicant when he appears for a exam + personal interview at a later point in time. This entire process requires a scanner for the applicant to scan his photo / signature into an appropriate size. Is there a better way to capture user identity for such purposes as usage of scanner for capturing signature, photo is a painful process.

    I read this article regarding creating popup notes with javascript and css The problem is that this one works only in IE since window.event is undefined in Firefox. // assigns X,Y mouse coordinates to note element note.style.left=event.clientX; note.style.top=event.clientY; So could you point me a fully working example? Or at least, how could i modify the javascript code to make it work in both internet browsers?
