I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time using VMWare on Windows 7. Everything has been installed smoothly but after the installation in the login screen username is coming and when I try to enter password it is not taking any input, keyboard is not working at all. After moving away from Ubuntu keyboard and everthing else is working fine. Does anyone know what's the cause behind this ?
Hello, I have Windows 7, and I set up English like default language, but every time I open new window keyboard layout become be non English, but second language, and it occurs only when I login with local admin, when I login with domain user, all work fine...

Recently noticed that my icons settings in notification area are getting reset on system restart.
For example I specify Skype icon to always show icon and notification.
After I restart Windows - it's hidden again.
It's not just for one specific icon, it's for all of them.
Checking box "Always shows icons and notifications" works, and all icons appear, but this is not an option.
Please help.
Thanks.
I migrated a VM running Windows 3.11 for Workgroups from VMware Workstation to ESXi 4.0U1 and the networking inside the guest machine has stopped working.
I reinstalled the network card driver, and changed the VM to use a static IP but it doesn't help.
Pls help me.
Is there a command line way of stopping a process if I know the name of the exe (or better give a wildcard). I was about to jump in and write an autohotkey script to do it but I thought I would look for out of the box ways first.
Interested in Windows XP and Vista.
I prefer the audio output on my computer to use the standard audio jack output due to volume issues. But I am using a monitor with HDMI. I have chosen to set the default audio device to be "Speakers"
But every time I reboot the default audio device is the HDMI Output again.
I am running Windows 7 64bit. Why does it not remember the default device? (I do shutdown and boot up properly without errors.)
Hi,
I am not able see any desktop icons, taskbar in my Windows XP system. Also none of the keyboard shortcuts like Win Key + R, Win Key + E are not working.
Yesterday I installed AVG 9.0 in my machine and was working fine. But today when I started the system an svchost error occured saying "the memory at location could not be written".
What would be the cause of this issue?
Thanks in advance
I'm used to a Mac keyboard and that means my finger expect to find the shortcut key to the left of the spacebar. How can I turn the Windows key (command key on a Mac keyboard) into the Control key and vice versa?
Is there is any way I can copy locked files on windows xp machine without having admin rights? I used unloker tool its great but needs admin rights to install and run. how it could be done in some programming language like perl/shell/c c++ etc. or if there exists some workaround for this.
I'm compiling a program on my 64bit machine, but I'm not sure if it produces 32-bit or 64-bit output.. How can I check if a file is 32bit or 64bit on Windows?
I'm sharing my PC (Win 7 x64 Home Premium) with a friend, and I wanna create a guest user for her. I don't want her to reach my files, Windows settings, program adjustments etc. She should just surf the net, create/edit her own Word, Excel documents, and simple things like these. How can I create this user account and make the necessary arrangements for limitations?
I'm using vpsinfo on all my linux servers, both virtual and non virtual and I'm wondering does anybody know of a similar script for windows servers?
I sure could use one, so much that I'm even tempted to write one, but lack the time to do so.
EDIT: I am not looking for monitoring application. I'm looking for a asp.net page that will show me all the relevant information about my server (like vpsinfo) without the hassle.
Looking for URL to download a trial version of Windows 7 to run on another partition. I want to have a 'play' on W7 and get to know it (and its possible problems) before I go out and buy a new machine with W7 already installed. Thanks.
I have a Windows 2008 server with two IP addresses assigned to a single NIC. The DNS settings are setup to register the connections's addresses on the DNS server. nslookup shows both IP addresses for the server name. How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?
I'm looking to play my .mkv files via Windows Media Center - I've got it almost working. They show up on the menu, they play video fine, but the audio is mute.
Strangely, if I play the .mkv file via Media Player - the video & audio are fine.
Any ideas?
What are some good screenshot programs for Windows, preferably free? Obviously I know I can hit the Print Screen key and paste that into Paint and save it, but I'm looking for something that makes it simple. Bonus points if it can automatically upload to an image host.
I am on Windows 7 using XAMPP and am trying to write file to the default install location of "C:\xampp\htdocs" using a php script but I am getting write failures. I can write to my own user area. How can I allow php to write to C:\xampp\htdocs?

I'm trying to check my antivirus protection downloading
the EICAR test program as usual. The antivirus pops up an alert on the download (that's ok), but I cannot run the EICAR.COM program because it's an 16-bit program and I'm running Win7 64bit.
I can run the program on DosBox but it's not the same thing as running it directly from the OS.
Is there any antivirus test program like EICAR for 64 bit Windows?
TIA,
Pablo
it seems only R2 versions of W2k3 and W2k8 support folder, file level VSS backup. In regular Windows server editions only volumes could be backed up.
is there any links or doc to confirm this behavior?
I want to record the sound that's coming from my applications in Windows Vista. The problem seems to be that Vista seems to only recognize the microphone as input device. Is there any reason for this? I went to Control Panel Sound and I can only see the microphone as recording device.
Im using a TX2000 HP laptop.
Thanks
Some blogs rumor that the next Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) would allow to host user-defined and even non-Microsoft packages.
What is your wish list for WSUS 4.0?
