  • Need help with a simple ASP.NET ModalPopupExtender example

    - by remdao
    I'm new to ASP.NET and I'm trying to get this Ajax ModalPopupExtender working. This is an example i found on the net, but nothing happens when btnpopup is clicked. <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="ModalTestProject._Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title>Untitled Page</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:scriptmanager id="ScriptManager1" runat="server"> </asp:scriptmanager> <asp:Button ID="btnpopup" runat="server" Text="Button" /> <ajaxToolkit:ModalPopupExtender ID="mpe" runat="server" TargetControlID="btnpopup" PopupControlID="pnlpopup" CancelControlID="btnCancelpopup" EnableViewState="true" DropShadow="true" /> <asp:Panel ID="pnlpopup" runat="server" Width="400px"> test <asp:Button ID="btnCancelpopup" runat="server" Text="Button" /> </asp:Panel> </form> </body> </html>

  • Struts 2 discard cache header

    - by Dewfy
    I have strange discarding behavior of struts2 while setting cache option for my image. I'm trying to put image from db to be cached on client side To render image I use ( http://struts.apache.org/2.x/docs/how-can-we-display-dynamic-or-static-images-that-can-be-provided-as-an-array-of-bytes.html ) where special result type render as follow: public void execute(ActionInvocation invocation) throws Exception { ...//some preparation HttpServletResponse response = ServletActionContext.getResponse(); HttpServletRequest request = ServletActionContext.getRequest(); ServletOutputStream os = response.getOutputStream(); try { byte[] imageBytes = action.getImage(); response.setContentType("image/gif"); response.setContentLength(imageBytes.length); //I want cache up to 10 min Date future = new Date(((new Date()).getTime() + 1000 * 10*60l)); ; response.addDateHeader("Expires", future.getTime()); response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "max-age=" + 10*60 + ""); response.addHeader("cache-Control", "public"); response.setHeader("ETag", request.getRequestURI()); os.write(imageBytes); } catch(Exception e) { response.sendError(HttpServletResponse.SC_NOT_FOUND); } os.flush(); os.close(); } But when image is embedded to page it is always reloaded (Firebug shows code 200), and neither Expires, nor max-age are presented in header Host localhost:9090 Accept image/png,image/*;q=0.8,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive 300 Connection keep-alive Referer http://localhost:9090/web/result?matchId=1 Cookie JSESSIONID=4156BEED69CAB0B84D950932AB9EA1AC; If-None-Match /web/_srv/teamcolor Cache-Control max-age=0 I have no idea why it is dissapered, may be problem in url?   • ASP.NET server data persistence

    - by Wayne Werner
Hi, I'm not really sure exactly how the question should be phrased, so please be patient if I ask the wrong thing. I'm writing an ASP.NET application using VB as the code behind language. I have a data access class that connects to the DB to run the query (parameterized, of course), and another class to perform the validation tasks - I access this class from my aspx page. What I would like is to be able to store the data server side and wait for the user to choose from a few options based on the validity of the data. But unless my understanding is completely off, having persistent data objects on the server will give problems when multiple users connect? My ultimate goal is that once the data has been validated the end user can't modify it. Currently I'm validating the data, but I still have to retrieve it from the web form AFTER the user says OK, which obviously leaves open the possibility of injecting bad data either accidentally (unlikely) or on purpose (also unlikely for the use, but I'd prefer not to take the chance). So am I completely off in my understanding? If so, can someone point me to a resource that provides some instructions on keeping persistent data on the server, or provide instruction? Thanks!

  • Is there a programmatic way to transform a sequence of image files into a PDF?

    - by Salim Fadhley
I have a sequence of JPG images. Each of the scans is already cropped to the exact size of one page. They are sequential pages of a valuable and out of print book. The publishing application requires that these pages be submitted as a single PDF file. I could take each of these images and just past them into a word-processor (e.g. OpenOffice) - unfortunately the problem here is that it's a very big book and I've got quite a few of these books to get through. It would obviously be time-consuming. This is volunteer work! My second idea was to use LaTeX - I could make a very simple document that consists of nothing more than a series of in-line image includes. I'm sure that this approach could be made to work, it's just a little on the complex side for something which seems like a very simple job. It occurred to me that there must be a simpler way - so any suggestions? I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, my primary programming language is Python, but if the solution is super-simple I'd happily adopt any technology that works.

  • asp.net master page/content page interaction with style sheet

    - by Matt
    Learning how to do a master page in asp.net. Trying to figure out how my style sheet interacts with respects to the master page and content page. I can get HTML tags like body and the style sheet to react. But when I call the ID attribute of a label no styling takes place. What am I missing here as far as interaction? BTW I'm using VS2008 CSS sample: body { height:1200px; width:920px; border-style:solid; border-color:blue; padding:10px 10px 10px 10px; } #toptext1 { position:relative; top:-225px; right:-500px; font-size:22px; font-weight:bold; } From the master page: <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:image id="cookNookLogo" ImageUrl="images/Logo.gif" runat="server" AlternateText="CookNook" Width="449px"></asp:image> <p> <asp:Label ID="toptext1" runat="server" Text="Quality Recipes, Hints and Supplies"></asp:Label> </p> From the content page: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/CNMasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Home.aspx.cs" Inherits="Home" Title="Untitled Page" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" Runat="Server"> <link href="App_Themes/cn/cn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </asp:Content> When I was doing this without a master page it worked so where am I going wrong with the attributes?

  • jQuery "best practices" is an oxymoron [closed]

    - by n00b
jQuery "best practices", oxymoron for several reasons sadly To speak candidly, the entire jQuery library has a HIGHLY inconsistent API, and virtually no coding standards. It's basically a subset of JavaScript, a new language if you will, which is probably the most confusing part for normal javascript developers. In my opinion, use normal JavaScript where possible to save on memory consumption. Or, better yet, use a professional tool like YUI. If you already come from a javascript background, you will appreciate it much more than jQuery because it doesn't have n00b wrappers around everything. In tools like YUI, you interact directly with the native DOM to do things, instead of a super-jQuery object that tries to do everything. I'll get voted down for saying the truth. Don't get me wrong, jQuery is cool if you wanna throw something flashy up quick, but if you're going to build a larger app you're going to need a more refined tool (especially since jQuery leaks memory like no other once you start chaining too much things). jQuery does have one of the lowest learning curves, and you won't outgrow it for awhile, but when you do it will be highly apparent and tedious to merge to something else. over 60 years programming experience someone clean this up and community wiki please

  • Elegantly determine if more than one boolean is "true"

    - by Ola Tuvesson
I have a set of five boolean values. If more than one of these are true I want to excecute a particular function. What is the most elegant way you can think of that would allow me to check this condition in a single if() statement? Target language is C# but I'm interested in solutions in other languages as well (as long as we're not talking about specific built-in functions). One interesting option is to store the booleans in a byte, do a right shift and compare with the original byte. Something like if(myByte && (myByte 1)) But this would require converting the separate booleans to a byte (via a bitArray?) and that seems a bit (pun intended) clumsy... [edit]Sorry, that should have been if(myByte & (myByte - 1)) [/edit] Note: This is of course very close to the classical "population count", "sideways addition" or "Hamming weight" programming problem - but not quite the same. I don't need to know how many of the bits are set, only if it is more than one. My hope is that there is a much simpler way to accomplish this.

  • Project Euler #14 and memoization in Clojure

    - by dbyrne
As a neophyte clojurian, it was recommended to me that I go through the Project Euler problems as a way to learn the language. Its definitely a great way to improve your skills and gain confidence. I just finished up my answer to problem #14. It works fine, but to get it running efficiently I had to implement some memoization. I couldn't use the prepackaged memoize function because of the way my code was structured, and I think it was a good experience to roll my own anyways. My question is if there is a good way to encapsulate my cache within the function itself, or if I have to define an external cache like I have done. Also, any tips to make my code more idiomatic would be appreciated. (use 'clojure.test) (def mem (atom {})) (with-test (defn chain-length ([x] (chain-length x x 0)) ([start-val x c] (if-let [e (last(find @mem x))] (let [ret (+ c e)] (swap! mem assoc start-val ret) ret) (if (<= x 1) (let [ret (+ c 1)] (swap! mem assoc start-val ret) ret) (if (even? x) (recur start-val (/ x 2) (+ c 1)) (recur start-val (+ 1 (* x 3)) (+ c 1))))))) (is (= 10 (chain-length 13)))) (with-test (defn longest-chain ([] (longest-chain 2 0 0)) ([c max start-num] (if (>= c 1000000) start-num (let [l (chain-length c)] (if (> l max) (recur (+ 1 c) l c) (recur (+ 1 c) max start-num)))))) (is (= 837799 (longest-chain))))

  • Organizing a String based on maxlength of each field

    - by pringlesinn
I've made a program that makes my life easier by reading a class and creating methods like these below: //Ferramentas Parâmetros acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Pesquisa", "ppaParametrosList", null, TipoAcessoBean.TELA)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Gravar", "ppaParametrosHome", "persist", TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Atualizar Dados", "ppaParametrosHome", "update", TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Leitura", "ppaParametrosHome", "find", TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Excluir", "ppaParametrosHome", "remove", TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); Don't worry about the language. It won't make it harder to understand what I need to make. I want to organize it to be shown like this: //Ferramentas Parâmetros acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Pesquisa" , "ppaParametrosList", null , TipoAcessoBean.TELA)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Gravar" , "ppaParametrosHome", "persist", TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Atualizar Dados", "ppaParametrosHome", "update" , TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Leitura" , "ppaParametrosHome", "find" , TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); acessos.add(new AcessoBean("Ferramentas", "Parâmetros", "Parâmetros", "Excluir" , "ppaParametrosHome", "remove" , TipoAcessoBean.ACAO)); I'm reading the whole class with Scanner, but once I read, I save only the things I want in a Collection containing this things above. How can I make a method to complete with blank to make it organized?

  • Do you like languages that let you put the "then" before the "if"?

    - by Matt Hamilton
I was reading through some C# code of mine today and found this line: if (ProgenyList.ItemContainerGenerator.Status != System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.GeneratorStatus.ContainersGenerated) return; Notice that you can tell without scrolling that it's an "if" statement that works with ItemContainerGenerator.Status, but you can't easily tell that if the "if" clause evaluates to "false" the method will return at that point. Realistically I should have moved the "return" statement to a line by itself, but it got me thinking about languages that allow the "then" part of the statement first. If C# permitted it, the line could look like this: return if (ProgenyList.ItemContainerGenerator.Status != System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.GeneratorStatus.ContainersGenerated); This might be a bit "argumentative", but I'm wondering what people think about this kind of construct. It might serve to make lines like the one above more readable, but it also might be disastrous. Imagine this code: return 3 if (x > y); Logically we can only return if x y, because there's no "else", but part of me looks at that and thinks, "are we still returning if x <= y? If so, what are we returning?" What do you think of the "then before the if" construct? Does it exist in your language of choice? Do you use it often? Would C# benefit from it?

  • How to (kindly) ask your users to upgrade from IE6?

    - by nickf
It's no secret at all that IE6 has been a major roadblock to the advancement of the web over the last few years. I couldn't count the number of hours I've spent bashing my head against a wall trying to fix or debug IE6 issues. The way I see it, there are two types of IE6 user. a) the poor corporate schmoe whose IT department doesn't want to upgrade in case something breaks, and b) the mums and dads of the world who think the internet is the blue E on their desktop (and I don't mean that in a nasty way). There's probably a couple of people who know about all the other browsers, but still choose to run IE6. They get what they deserve, IMO. Anyway, getting to the point, I'd say that 90% of my IE6-using visitors are in the the mums and dads category - they're not stupid, they just don't know WHY they should upgrade to IE7 or Firefox or whatever. How do I educate these people without pissing them off? Is there a nice and friendly website I can direct these people to, which explains the reasons for upgrading in plain language? Any mention of "security" or "web standards" I think would just come across as scary. I've just seen http://www.whatbrowser.org which seems to fit the bill nicely. It explains in very basic terms: what a web browser is why you'd want to upgrade it how old your current browser is (subtle hint to those with a 9 year old browser) ..aaaand it's in 22 languages. It's from Google but displays no bias (it links to Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer displayed in a random order).

  • C# How to create various objects at runtime that can hold strongly typed data?

    - by JL
Is it possible to create objects at runtime without having to have hard coded class definitions, then populate properties with primitives or even strongly typed data types? For example: Lets say I want to an XML config file that could hold configuration values for connecting to various systems in an SOA application. In C# I read in these values, but for each system the properties are different (e.g: SQL might have a connection string, while SharePoint might need a username + password + domain + url, while yet an smtp server would need username + password + port + url) So instead of creating static classes as follows public class SharePointConfiguration or public class SQLConfiguration, then have each class with custom properties (this is cumbersome) Is there not a more preferred way to achieve this, without using 1990's methods, in otherwords it would still be nice to have intellisense and code completion and named properties. Since this collection of properties (object) would be passed within the class and possible to other classes from function to function I am also wondering where this class definition would get defined if its all happening at run time. Any recommendations, and hope the question was clear enough. Would like to use language features, not hacks. Thank you.

  • How do I loop through elements inside a div?

    - by crosenblum
    I have to make a custom function for search/replace text, because firefox counts text nodes differently than IE, Google Chrome, etc.. I am trying to use this code, that I saw at Firefox WhiteSpace Issue since in my other function, I am looping numerically through nodes, which serves my functional needs perfectly, in other browsers. But refuses to work, as part of a search/replace function that takes place after some ajax content is loaded. Here is the code, that I have tried to get to work, but I must be missing the correct understanding of the context of how to loop thru elements inside a div. // get all childnodes inside div function div_translate(divid) { // list child nodes of parent if (divid != null) { // var children = parent.childNodes, child; var parentNode = divid; // start loop thru child nodes for(var node=parentNode.firstChild;node!=null;node=node.nextSibling){ // begin check nodeType if(node.nodeType == 1){ // get value of this node var value = content(node); // get class of this node var myclass = node.attr('class'); console.log(myclass); // begin check if value undefined if (typeof(value) != 'undefined' && value != null) { console.log(value); // it is a text node. do magic. for (var x = en_count; x > 0; x--) { // get current english phrase var from = en_lang[x]; // get current other language phrase var to = other_lang[x]; if (value.match(from)) { content(node, value.replace(from, to)); } } } // end check if value undefined } // end check nodeType } // end loop thru child nodes } }

  • Getting ellipses function parameters without an initial argument

    - by Tox1k
So I've been making a custom parser for a scripting language, and I wanted to be able to pass only ellipses arguments. I don't need or want an initial variable, however Microsoft and C seem to want something else. FYI, see bottom for info. I've looked at the va_* definitions #define _crt_va_start(ap,v) ( ap = (va_list)_ADDRESSOF(v) + _INTSIZEOF(v) ) #define _crt_va_arg(ap,t) ( *(t *)((ap += _INTSIZEOF(t)) - _INTSIZEOF(t)) ) #define _crt_va_end(ap) ( ap = (va_list)0 ) and the part I don't want is the v in va_start. As a little background I'm competent in goasm and I know how the stack works so I know what's happening here. I was wondering if there is a way to get the function stack base without having to use inline assembly. Ideas I've had: #define im_va_start(ap) (__asm { mov [ap], ebp }) and etc... but really I feel like that's messy and I'm doing it wrong. struct function_table { const char* fname; (void)(*fptr)(...); unsigned char maxArgs; }; function_table mytable[] = { { "MessageBox", &tMessageBoxA, 4 } }; ... some function that sorts through a const char* passed to it to find the matching function in mytable and calls tMessageBoxA with the params. Also, the maxArgs argument is just so I can check that a valid number of parameters is being sent. I have personal reasons for not wanting to send it in the function, but in the meantime we can just say it's because I'm curious. This is just an example; custom libraries are what I would be implementing so it wouldn't just be calling WinAPI stuff. void tMessageBoxA(...) { // stuff to load args passed MessageBoxA(arg1, arg2, arg3, arg4); } I'm using the __cdecl calling convention and I've looked up ways to reliably get a pointer to the base of the stack (not the top) but I can't seem to find any. Also, I'm not worried about function security or typechecking.

  • Sending one record from cursor to another function Postgres

    - by PylonsN00b
FYI: I am completely new to using cursors... So I have one function that is a cursor: CREATE FUNCTION get_all_product_promos(refcursor, cursor_object_id integer) RETURNS refcursor AS ' BEGIN OPEN $1 FOR SELECT * FROM promos prom1 JOIN promo_objects ON (prom1.promo_id = promo_objects.promotion_id) WHERE prom1.active = true AND now() BETWEEN prom1.start_date AND prom1.end_date AND promo_objects.object_id = cursor_object_id UNION SELECT prom2.promo_id FROM promos prom2 JOIN promo_buy_objects ON (prom2.promo_id = promo_buy_objects.promo_id) LEFT JOIN promo_get_objects ON prom2.promo_id = promo_get_objects.promo_id WHERE (prom2.buy_quantity IS NOT NULL OR prom2.buy_quantity > 0) AND prom2.active = true AND now() BETWEEN prom2.start_date AND prom2.end_date AND promo_buy_objects.object_id = cursor_object_id; RETURN $1; END; ' LANGUAGE plpgsql; SO then in another function I call it and need to process it: ... --Get the promotions from the cursor SELECT get_all_product_promos('promo_cursor', this_object_id) updated := FALSE; IF FOUND THEN --Then loop through your results LOOP FETCH promo_cursor into this_promotion --Preform comparison logic -this is necessary as this logic is used in other contexts from other functions SELECT * INTO best_promo_results FROM get_best_product_promos(this_promotion, this_object_id, get_free_promotion, get_free_promotion_value, current_promotion_value, current_promotion); ... SO the idea here is to select from the cursor, loop using fetch (next is assumed correct?) and put the record fetched into this_promotion. Then send the record in this_promotion to another function. I can't figure out what to declare the type of this_promotion in get_best_product_promos. Here is what I have: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION get_best_product_promos(this_promotion record, this_object_id integer, get_free_promotion integer, get_free_promotion_value numeric(10,2), current_promotion_value numeric(10,2), current_promotion integer) RETURNS... It tells me: ERROR: plpgsql functions cannot take type record OK first I tried: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION get_best_product_promos(this_promotion get_all_product_promos, this_object_id integer, get_free_promotion integer, get_free_promotion_value numeric(10,2), current_promotion_value numeric(10,2), current_promotion integer) RETURNS... Because I saw some syntax in the Postgres docs showed a function being created w/ a input parameter that had a type 'tablename' this works, but it has to be a tablename not a function :( I know I am so close, I was told to use cursors to pass records around. So I studied up. Please help.

  • Open + Save .exe file in notepad makes it corrupted

    - by Jacob Kofoed
Hi, I just published this simple console application that is supposed to show a textbox with the value of a setting called "userID" with value 1001. This works like a charm. Now what I need is to change this value outside the editor, from notepad etc. When I open the application a lot in there is non-sence (& o! -å Þþþ,o" Ü+) etc. but with a quick (ctrl + F) I found the value 1001, and changed this to some other integer. I ran the application again, and it failed, didn't even give any userful error-message. At a point I tried just opening a newly published non-corrupted version of the application, didn't change anything, then saved from notepad, and it were also corrupted. It seems like notepad can't open some characters or something. Do I need to publish the application in some specific text-unicode language or something? Help much appreciated :) I know it sounds like a stupid application, but it is just a test of concept :) I use vb.net for this

  • Can someone explain the declaration of these java generic methods?

    - by Tony Giaccone
I'm reading "Generics in the Java Programming Language" by Gilad Bracha and I'm confused about a style of declaration. The following code is found on page 8: interface Collection<E> { public boolean containsAll(Collection<?> c); public boolean addAll(Collection<? extends E> c); } interface Collection<E> { public <T> boolean containsAll(Collection<T> c); public <T extends E> boolean addAll(Collection<T> c); // hey, type variables can have bounds too! } My point of confusion comes from the second declaration. It's not clear to me what the purpose the <T> declaration serves in the following line: public <T> boolean containsAll(Collection<T> c); The method already has a type (boolean) associated with it. Why would you use the <T> and what does it tell the complier? I think my question needs to be a bit more specific. Why would you write: public <T> boolean containsAll(Collection<T> c); vs public boolean containsAll(Collection<T> c); It's not clear to me, what the purpose of <T> is, in the first declaration of containsAll.

  • XSLT, worth investing time in, any actual alternatives?

    - by Keeno
I realise this has been a few other questions on this topic, and people are saying use your language of choice to manipulate the xml etc etc however, not quite fit my question exactly. Firstly, the scope of the project: We want to develop platform independant e-learning, currently, its a bunch of HTML pages but as they grow and develop they become hard to maintain. The idea: Generate up an XML file + Schema, then produce some XSLT files that process the XML into the eLearning modiles. XML to HTML via XSLT. Why: We would like the flexibily to be able to easy reformat the content (i realise CSS is a viable alternative here) If we decide to alter the pages layout or functionality in anyway, im guessing altering the "shared" XSLT files would be easier than updating the HTML files. So far, we have about 30 modules, with up to 10-30 pages each Depending on some "parameters" we could output drastically different page layouts/structures, above and beyond what CSS can do Now, all this has to be platform independant, and to be able to run "offline" i.e. without a server powering the HTML Negatives ive read so far for XSLT: Overheard? Not exactly sure why...is it the compute power need to convert to HTML? Difficult to learn Better alternatives Now, what I would like to know exactly is: are there actually any viable alternatives for this "offline"? Am I going about it in the correct manner, do you guys have any advice or alternatives. Thanks!

  • Browser Issue: Charts are not rendered on IE8

    - by Rachel
We have inhouse library which uses canvas for displaying charts in my application. And dojo as scripting language.Everything is fine, but my charts are not appearing in IE8. I google about this, and found that there is some VML issue in IE8. I found this: var printChart = function(time, freq){ if (!document.namespaces['g_vml_']) { document.namespaces.add('g_vml_', 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml', '#default#VML'); } if (!document.namespaces['g_o_']) { document.namespaces.add('g_o_', 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office', '#default#VML'); } if (freq === undefined) { this.freq = "1mi"; } if (time === undefined) { this.time = "1dy"; } self.reload(); } Now I was trying to add this in my DOJO code and that is creating problem. As when I do document.namespace I get firebug error 'document.namespaces is undefined'. Q: How can we fix this, are the any better alternative approaches for the same, basic problem am having is browser related, charts are rendered properly on other browsers but not on IE8, any suggestions ? Update: What are ways to deal with such cross browser issue ?

  • Calling jQuery method from onClick attribute in HTML

I am relatively new to implementing JQuery throughout an entire system, and I am enjoying the opportunity. I have come across one issue I would love to find the correct resolve for. Here is a simple case example of what I want to do: I have a button on a page, and on the click event I want to call a jquery function I have defined. Here is the code I have used to define my method (Page.js): (function($) { $.fn.MessageBox = function(msg) { alert(msg); }; }); And here is my HTML page: <HTML> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="C:\Sandpit\jQueryTest\jquery-1.3.2.js"></script> <script language="javascript" src="Page.js"></script> </head> <body> <div class="Title">Welcome!</div> <input type="button" value="ahaha" onclick="$().MessageBox('msg');" /> </body> </HTML> (The above code displays the button, but clicking does nothing.) I am aware I could add the click event in the document ready event, however it seems more maintainable to put events in the HTML element instead. However I have not found a way to do this. Is there a way to call a jquery function on a button element (or any input element)? Or is there a better way to do this? Thanks

  • C++/Win32 : XP Visual Styles - no controls are showing up?

    - by mrl33t
Okay, so i'm pretty new to C++ & the Windows API and i'm just writing a small application. I wanted my application to make use of visual styles in both XP, Vista and Windows 7 so I added this line to the top of my code: #pragma comment(linker,"\"/manifestdependency:type='win32' name='Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls' version='6.0.0.0' processorArchitecture='*' publicKeyToken='6595b64144ccf1df' language='*'\"") It seemed to work perfectly on my Windows 7 machine and also Vista machine. But when I tried the application on XP the application wouldn't load any controls (e.g. buttons, labels etc.) - not even messageboxes would display. This image shows a small test application which i've just put together to demonstrate what i'm trying to explain: http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/2250/myapp.png In this test application i'm not using any particularly fancy or complicated code. I've effectively just taken the most basic sample code from the MSDN Library (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff381409.aspx) and added a section to the WM_CREATE message to create a button: MyBtn = CreateWindow(L"Button", L"My Button", BS_PUSHBUTTON | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE, 25, 25, 100, 30, hWnd, NULL, hInst, 0); But I just can't figure out what's going on and why its not working. Any ideas guys? Thank you in advanced. (By the way the application works in XP if i remove the manifest section from the top - obviously without visual styles though. I should also probably mention that the app was built using Visual C++ 2010 Express on a Windows 7 machine - if that makes a difference?)

  • asp.net mvc 2 - return JavaScript with View

    - by Tomaszewski
Hi, using ASP.NET MVC 2 I have a navigation menu inside my Master Page. In the navigation menu, I am trying add a class to the that the current page relates to (i.e., home page will add class="active" to the Home button). I'm trying to consider scalability and the fact that I don't want to change individual pages if the navigation changes later. The only way I can think of doing this is: Add JavaScript to each individual View that will add the class when the DOM is ready Return JavaScript when return View() occurs on point (2), I am unsure how to do. Thusfar I have been doing the following in my controller: public ActionResult Index() { ViewData["messege"] = JavaScript("<script type='text/javascript' language='javascript'> $(document).ready(function () { console.log('hi hi hi'); }); </script>"); return View(); } but in my view, when I call: <%: ViewData["messege"] %> I get: System.Web.Mvc.JavaScriptResult as the result Would you guys have any ideas on How to solve the navigation menu probelem, other than the solutions I've listed return JavaScript along with your view from the Controller Thanks, in advanced!

  • Numerical calculations in Prolog

    - by user8472
While reading SICP I came across logic programming chapter 4.4. Then I started looking into the Prolog programming language and tried to understand some simple assignments in Prolog. I found that Prolog seems to have troubles with numerical calculations. Here is the computation of a factorial in standard Prolog: f(0, 1). f(A, B) :- A > 0, C is A-1, f(C, D), B is A*D. The issues I find is that I need to introduce two auxiliary variables (C and D), a new syntax (is) and that the problem is non-reversible (i.e., f(5,X) works as expected, but f(X,120) does not). Naively, I expect that at the very least C is A-1, f(C, D) above may be replaced by f(A-1,D), but even that does not work. My question is: Why do I need to do this extra "stuff" in numerical calculations but not in other queries? I do understand (and SICP is quite clear about it) that in general information on "what to do" is insufficient to answer the question of "how to do it". So the declarative knowledge in (at least some) math problems is insufficient to actually solve these problems. But that begs the next question: How does this extra "stuff" in Prolog help me to restrict the formulation to just those problems where "what to do" is sufficient to answer "how to do it"?

  • Should uni provide "correct answer" after programming assignment is due?

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: This is my very first subjective question. And I think it is programming related - the assignment is to be written in a programming language. I am not for "getting the full marks out of a subject". I am actually not for a "correct answer", but for a "better solution", so that I can compare, and can improve. I reckon it is good that I practice programming first and check the solution later to pick up the things I've done wrong/bad. Without a "benchmark" to against, this would be much harder. Unfortunately as far as I know, not all programming subjects taught in uni would kindly provide the students with a "correct answer" in the end, after the assignment is due. One bad metaphor for this is like someone asks you a question which they don't have a clear answer themselves and hope to take advantage of your answer as the basis for their answer. Personally, I feel having a assignment solution provided by the academic staff is essential to students. I do appreciate this, and I feel I might not be the only one. I am a very proactive student in uni. I learn more, I practice more, an assignment for me is more like a challenge to achieve "the best solution I can come up with", not something "I have to pass"... The cause of this question is that for the past few days I have crafted 500+ lines of Perl code, for a tiny assignment. I feel pain when I look at my solution(not finished yet) and I feel like I am an idiot doing some crap code. I know there must be a much better solution. And I reckon it is better for the lecturer in this subject to get me one, rather than asking for an answer here, even I would shamelessly add the link to my solution apart from the assignment requirements. I know in SO, there are a lot of tutors/lecturers for programming subjects/courses. I'd like to hear your words on this question.
