  • Selecting data effectively sql

    Hi, I have a very large table with over 1000 records and 200 columns. When I try to retreive records matching some criteria in the WHERE clause using SELECT statement it takes a lot of time. But most of the time I just want to select a single record that matches the criteria in the WHERE clause rather than all the records. I guess there should be a way to select just a single record and exit which would minimize the retrieval time. I tried ROWNUM=1 in the WHERE clause but it didn't really work cause I guess the engine still checks all the records even after finding the first record matching the WHERE criteria. Is there a way to optimize in case if I want to select just a few records? Thanks in advance. Edit: I am using oracle 10g.

  • C++ - getline() keeps reading the same line over and over again for some reason

    I am wondering WTF my while loop which calls istream& getline ( istream& is, string& str ); keeps reading the same line again.     I have a nasty situation. I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express edition locally on my pc for testing, and once tested I upload database changes to a remote server. I have a situation where I deleted the Default Database on my local machine, and instead of searching hard enough to find an answer to that problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled Management Studio. Since then Management Studio has not been able to connect to the server. Is there any help (or hope for me for that matter), out there?????     I am packing bytes into a struct, and some of them correspond to a Unicode string. The following works fine for an ASCII string: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] private struct PacketBytes { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 64)] public string MyString; } I assumed that I could do [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] private struct PacketBytes { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr, SizeConst = 32)] public string MyString; } to make it Unicode, but that didn't work. (Since this field is part of a struct with other fields, which I've omitted for clarity, I can't simply change the CharSet of the containing struct.) Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

How can I prevent this? I'd prefer not to have to have javaScript trim the string before submits.

I have the code to check for any matching images, but if there are supposed to be four matching image paths (as that is how many are in the first collection), and there is less than this, how can I get the missing one without writing loops? Or should I also use this too when inputting data to a dbc? --When should I use strip_tags() or htmlspecialchars?     Im trying to create a xml file from a POJO , in which i have a property that stores urls, I have been using the below method to replace all & in the url String to make the xml conform to standards and pass it as an html char entity but the string does not change. public static String forHrefAmpersand(String aURL){ return aURL.replaceAll("&", "&"); } the value might be www.abc.com/controller?a=1&next=showResults I have even tried changing the above method to use "/" as i read replaceAll uses regular expression but replaceAll is not working as exprected, Can anyone tell me what is the mistake im doing ?
