When you choose to program in dynamic languages you sacrifice performance, some IDE capabilities and compile-type checks in favour of flexibility. So what you practically lose when you choose stytic-typed langauge like Scala (or F#, Haskell, C#) instead of dynamic ones (which has macros or runtime metaprogramming capabilities)?
What things are multi-core processors needed for? I mean what type of things benefit from using multi-core ? Also are there anythings that suffer in performance for using multi-core... ie. they perform better using a single core processor?
I am using Enterprise library 3.1 to log application logs in Windows event logs, and I want to read this log by passing the date parameter.
Please note that I will be accessing the remote machine and the performance should be good. Is there any method that can be used to read these logs using Ent Lib, or please suggest some good method.
I have a url which looks like this
https://test.high.com/people/11111111-name-firstname-_custa/deals/new
Now i need to match document.URL
if im on that Page if so i will alert a message.
The important part is /deals/new
How can i match that in Javascript?
I have a big XML which contains around 300 elements. I need to modify 2 or 3 elements in this xml using Java. I don't want to go for conventional marshalling and unmarshalling as it involves the parsing of the whole XML. How is XPath/XSLT manipulation? I know that I can easily read the data but i need to modify the same and put in back in the same XML. The primary concern here is performance. Kindly advise
There are many similar questions, but apparently no perfect match, that's why I'm asking.
I'd like to split a random string (e.g. 123xx456yy789) by a list of string delimiters (e.g. xx, yy) and include the delimiters in the result (here: 123, xx, 456, yy, 789).
Good performance is a nice bonus. Regex should be avoided, if possible.
I need to come with a strategy to use gather information about the health of my linux platform, hardware health such as high CPU temperature and may be disk space usage, etc... I know my examples are not very good ones.
Essentially, I have an SNMP agent running on Linux and I need it to provide platform specific health and state information. Are there any Linux packages that do this, what MIBs to use, Dell Open Manager functionality???
Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.
Does ruby on rails have issues with regards to max # of threads the server and serve?
i.e. you have to run multiple instances of the server if you reach high load?
I wonder which option is more stable (leaving performance aside) and is more widely used (I assume the widely used one is the most stable):
apache - mod_wsgi
apache - mod_fcgid
apache - mod_proxy_ajp
apache - mod_proxy_http
for a project that will serve REST services with small json formatted input and output messages and web pages, up to 100 req/s. Please comment on apache if you think nginx etc. is more suitable.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
I am in the middle of building a cache layer for the Redis DB to my application and I have come to the point where's it's about to take care of arrays.
I wonder if there's any good (high performance!) way of controlling an string to be serialized or not with PHP?
Thanks a lot!
I was wondering how such performance can be achieved on windows as I noticed snowberd is even faster than DOS "dir" command, even in mapped network drives...?
Any idea what algo/technology are used to get such fast directory browsing...?
If I need to check multiple conditions, which is the preferred way with respect to performance
if( CND1 && CND2 && CND3 && CND4)
{
}
else
{
}
or
if(CND1)
{
if(CND2)
{
if(CND3)
{
if(CND4)
{
}
else
{
}
}
else
{
}
}
else
{
}
}
}
I need to develop a multiplatform software that takes screenshots from opengl games without affecting the game in performance, it will run in the background and will add a watermark to my screenshots.
What language should i use? I thought of Perl / Python.
Anyone can point me out something to start?
Thanks!
Hello All,
We are planning to move to .NET framework 4.0 sometime soon...
I don't remember the refernce or link, but recently, I read about the latest framework being a little slow in performance when compared to its predecessors.
Is that true? has anybody done any tests or have some valid arguments to support this?
If you know that you have to show tens of texts with a border,
would you decide for a
Label (which is much complex and resources consuming)
or a
TextBlock in a Border? .
The performance aspect is the one interesting for me now.
Thank you !
Hi,
We have enabled the wildcard mapping for an existing classic ASP site to handle through aspnet_isapi.dll. Ever since then, the performance of the site has dropped? Does the .asp files get compiled before it served by IIS? Any help is greatly appreciated

Is there anything wrong with the code? It's not working.
<script>
t=document.getElementById('good');
document.write(t.value);
</script>
HTML:
Type-here: <input id='good' type='text' value="my value is high">
Hi all,
I have a simple stupid question. Here's the problem, for years, my company has been using the old WURFL PHP API. Now, with the release of the new WURFL PHP API that promises a better performance, we want to use it.
What I want to ask is, how do I update the cache? Can I use the old *update_cache.php*?
Here's an example of the type of background image I'm talking about, the iPhone Notes app...
Clearly, there's a pattern in it. My question is, if this were an iPad app and the background image was twice the size, would there be any significant benefits to taking advantage of this pattern by tiling the image? Or would it really make no difference in terms of performance and just be easier to load the entire image into a UIImageView?
Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!
I have select, insert, update and delete query.
if i have to write all query in same store procedure that is good for performance or i should write all query in separate store procedure?
Hi,
I need a profiler that is able to measure performance of web service execition.
Our application has several layers and ideally I would like to be able to dive into each web service request and see how much time was spent in each layer (server, sql server, etc...)
Is there a tool that can help detect where are the bottlenecks ?
Is that something that can be done using VS Team System Test Edition ?
Hello,
Is there any converter to convert a C function into ARM (v6) ASM code or I need to do it manually ?
I am trying to gain the performance of a C function on Iphone.
Looking for a solid solution for handling reading barcodes from Windows Mobile devices using .NET Compact Framework.
Ideally something open source or free, but not against paying for something that works well. I'm looking for a high quality solution if one is available.
Apple says:
Tip: For best performance, make sure
that you set the smallest possible
clipping area for the objects in the
transparency layer prior to calling
CGContextBeginTransparencyLayer.
Sounds good, but how would I set that clipping area to the thing which I want to draw transparent?
