  • Heuristic for sliding tile problem.

    - by MustDash
    The idea is to move all of the right elements into the left and the left into the right with an empty space in the middle. The elements can either jump over one or two pieces into an empty space. LLL[ ]RRR I'm trying to think of a heuristic for this task. Is the heuristic meant to aid in finding a possible solution, or actually return a number of moves as the solution? How would I express such a heuristic?

  • HABTM checking for match of latest 3

    - by user333614
    Here's an interesting one for you folks... I have a HABTM (has_and_belongs_to_many) relationship between "Dogs" and "Trips". My goal is to find two result sets: 1) Dogs that have been on at least 1 of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_current 2) Dogs that have NOT been on any of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_old I found that I can find what the last 3 trips are by doing this in the Trip model: named_scope :last3, :order => 'date DESC', :limit => 3 But not sure how to use that list get 1 and 2. This hack works, but it seems ugly. There must be a better way! :) @dogs_current = [] @dogs_old = [] @dogs.each do |dog| if (Trip.last3 - dog.trips).size < 3 then @dogs_current << dog else @dogs_old << dog end end Any ideas? Thanks! -Cam

  • regular expression - function body extracting

    - by Altariste
    Hi, In Python script,for every method definition in some C++ code of the form: return_value ClassName::MethodName(args) {MehodBody} ,I need to extract three parts: the class name, the method name and the method body for further processing. Finding and extracting the ClassName and MethodName is easy, but is there any simple way to extract the body of the method? With all possible '{' and '}' inside it? Or are regexes unsuitable for such task?

  • ruby on rails named scopes (searching)

    - by houlahan
    I have a named scope (name) combination of first and last name and I'm wanting to use this in a search box. I have the code below: named_scope :full_name, lambda { |fn| {:joins => :actor, :conditions => ['first_name LIKE ? OR second_name LIKE ?', "%#{fn}%", "%#{fn}%"]} } def self.search(search) if search self.find(:all, :conditions => [ 'full_name LIKE ?', "%#{search}%"]) else find(:all) end end but this doesn't work as it gives the following error: SQLite3::SQLException: no such column: full_name: SELECT * FROM "actors" WHERE (full_name LIKE '%eli dooley%') Thanks in advance Houlahan

  • $.ajax + authentication + `@` in username

    - by Koning Baard XIV
    I am creating a web app which uses jQuery to authenticate: $.ajax({ url: "/session/create?format=json", type: "GET", dataType: "json", cache: false, username: $("#signin-email").val(), password: $("#signin-password").val(), success: function(data) { if(data.success) { success = true; } } }); The problem is that the code only makes the AJAX-request when the username does not include things like an @, which is required in my app. Can anyone help me with how I can do this? I do not mind changing the back-end a little bit, but requiring users to have an @-less email is not an option. Oh, my back-end is a Ruby-on-Rails app

  • Why thread started by ScheduledExecutorService.schedule() never quits?

    - by moonese
    If I create a scheduled task by calling ScheduledExecutorService.schedule(), it never quits after execution, is it a JDK bug, or I just miss something? note: doSomething() is empty method below. public static void doSomething() { } public static void main(String[] args) { ScheduledFuture scheduleFuture = Executors.newSingleThreadScheduledExecutor().schedule(new Callable() { public Void call() { try { doSomething(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } }, 1, TimeUnit.SECONDS); }

  • Problem building relationships between models

    - by Brian Roisentul
    Until now, I've been using acts_as_taggable_on plugin for tagging announcements. That plugin creates the following tables: taggings: relates tags and announcements table(for the tagged item, it has a field called taggable_id, which I rename to "announcement_id" for what I'll explain below). tags: has the tag ids and names. The other day, I discovered that I had no way of getting the announcements tagged with a certain tag, but doing Announcement.tagged_with(tag_name), and I don't want to search by name, but for id. So, as I'm using almost nothing of the functionality in that plugin, I decided to create the models for taggings and tags tables, to accomplish this: Announcement.tags. The models' relationships look as following: class Tagging < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :announcement belongs_to :tag end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :announcements, :through => :taggings end class Announcement < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :tags, :through => :taggings Why can't I execute the command Announcement.tags? Because when I try, I get undefined method `tags'

  • How to sort a hash by value in descending order and output a hash in ruby?

    - by tipsywacky
    output.sort_by {|k, v| v}.reverse and for keys h = {"a"=>1, "c"=>3, "b"=>2, "d"=>4} => {"a"=>1, "c"=>3, "b"=>2, "d"=>4} Hash[h.sort] Right now I have these two. But I'm trying to sort hash in descending order by value so that it will return => {"d"=>4, "c"=>3, "b"=>2, "a"=>1 } Thanks in advance. Edit: let me post the whole code. def count_words(str) # YOUR CODE HERE output = Hash.new(0) sentence = str.gsub(/,/, "").gsub(/'/,"").gsub(/-/, "").downcase words = sentence.split() words.each do |item| output[item] += 1 end puts Hash[output.sort_by{ |_, v| -v }] return Hash[output.sort_by{|k, v| v}.reverse] end

  • How does ruby allow a method and a Class with the same name?

    - by Daniel Beardsley
    I happened to be working on a Singleton class in ruby and just remembered the way it works in factory_girl. They worked it out so you can use both the long way Factory.create(...) and the short way Factory(...) I thought about it and was curious to see how they made the class Factory also behave like a method. They simply used Factory twice like so: def Factory (args) ... end class Factory ... end My Question is: How does ruby accomplish this? and Is there danger in using this seemingly quirky pattern?

  • Getting Error 91

    - by user1695788
    I have a general comprehension issue with classes and objects. What I'm trying to do is pretty simple but I'm getting errors. In the code example below, sometimes the line "Call tables.MethodInCTables" runs fine and sometimes it produces error 91, object not set. IN all cases, I can "see" the method in the type ahead so I know that the code recognizes the "tables" instance and "sees" MethodInCTables. But then I get the run-time error. Sub MainSub() Dim tables as New CTables Call tables.MethodInCTables End Sub ----Class Module = CTables Sub MethodInCTables() ...do something End Sub

  • Module.new with class_eval

    - by dorelal
    This is a large commit. But I want you to concentrate on this change block. http://github.com/rails/rails/commit/d916c62cfc7c59ab6411407a05b946d3dd7535e9#L2L1304 Even without understanding the full context of the code I am not able to think of a scenario where I would use include Modue.new { class_eval <<-RUBY def foo puts 'foo' end RUBY } Then end result is that in the root context (self just before include Moduel.new) a method call foo has been added. If I take out the Module.new code and if I only leave class_eval in that case also I will have a method called foo in self. What am I missing.
