  • Is there a way to identify which web framework is used in a site?

    - by ragu.pattabi
    Whenever I come across a cute website, I am always curious to know which web framework was used by its developers? Being a novice in web development, a look at the page source doesn't give any clue. Any way(s) to get this information? If possible, may be with a bit of Ruby magic, I can figure out things like: which is the most/least used framework for my favorite sites, audio/video heavy sites, etc.

  • Objective-C function dispatch collisions; Or, how to achieve "namespaces"?

    - by fbrereto
    I have an application for Mac OS X that supports plugins that are intended to be loaded at the same time. Some of these plugins are built on top of a Cocoa framework that may receive updates in one plugin but not another. Given Objective-C's current method for function dispatching, any call from any plugin to a given Objective-C routine will go to the same routine every time. That means plugin A can find itself inside plugin B with a trivial Objective-C call! Obviously what we're looking for is for each plugin to interact with its own version of the framework upon which it was built. I have been reading some on Objective-C and this particular need, but haven't found a definitive solution for it yet. Update: My use of the word "framework" above is misleading: the framework is a statically-linked library, built into the plugin(s) that need it. The way Objective-C handles dispatching, however, even these statically linked pieces of disparate code will co-mingle in the Objective-C dispatcher, leading to unintended consequences. Update 2: I'm still a bit fuzzy on the answer provided here, as it doesn't seem to propose a solution as much as an unproven hypothesis.

  • Is the Contains Method in java.lang.String Case-sensitive?

    - by Kamikaze Mercenary
    Say I have 2 strings, String s1 = "AbBaCca"; String s2 = "bac"; I want to preform a check returning that s2 is contained within s1. I can do this with: return s1.contains(s2); I am pretty sure that contains() is case sensitive, however I can't determine this for sure from reading the documentation. If it is then I suppose my best method would be something like: return s1.toLowerCase().contains(s2.toLowerCase()); All this aside, does anyone know of another (possibly better) way to accomplish this without caring about case-sensitivity?

  • Splitting EJBs and interfaces into separate module -- deployment fails

    - by Hank
    I'm having trouble following this guide to "extract" my interfaces and entities from my EAR to use them from another Web Application: I use NetBeans 6.8 and Glassfish 3.0.1 "Java Class Library" project contains all the entities and interfaces "Java EE Application" project class library added to the project, is packaged into the EAR contains EJB implementations, MDBs, Test "Java Web Application" project class library added to the project, is packaged into the WAR contains REST interface When I build and deploy the Web Application, all goes well. When I build the JEE application, I can see the jar-file (interfaces, entities) being included. But when I try to deploy the EAR, Glassfish refuses it with a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error: [#|2010-03-28T18:25:59.875+0200|WARNING|glassfishv3.0|javax.enterprise.system.tools.deployment.org.glassfish.deployment.common|_ThreadID=28;_ThreadName=Thread-1;|Error in annotation processing: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: mvs/core/StoreServiceLocal|#] [#|2010-03-28T18:25:59.876+0200|SEVERE|glassfishv3.0|javax.enterprise.system.core.com.sun.enterprise.v3.server|_ThreadID=28;_ThreadName=Thread-1;|Exception while deploying the app java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid ejb jar [CoreServer]: it contains zero ejb. If the jar file contains valid EJBs which are annotated with EJB component level annotations (@Stateless, @Stateful, @MessageDriven, @Singleton), please check server.log to see whether the annotations were processed properly. 'mvs/core/StoreServiceLocal' is an interface which is defined in the library jar file. What am I doing wrong?

  • Ruby or PHP or Php Framework?

    - by the_
    I am starting a website and am wondering if I should go with PHP, a php framework, or ruby on rails? I want to make a website fast, easiest and without a big learning curve. I already know a little bit of php and a little ruby on rails...But which would be best? OK so to clarify more on the topic of what my site will be, It's basically a Classified Ads website that needs to have a user login, ability to post classifieds, and categorizing, and basically anything else a classified website has.

  • Java - How to avoid loss of precision during divide and cast to int?

    - by David Buckley
    I have a situation where I need to find out how many times an int goes into a decimal, but in certain cases, I'm losing precision. Here is the method: public int test(double decimalAmount, int divisor) { return (int) (decimalAmount/ (1d / divisor)); } The problem with this is if I pass in 1.2 as the decimal amount and 5 as the divisor, I get 5 instead of 6. How can I restrusture this so I know how many times 5 goes into the decimal amount as an int?

  • How can I control the width of JTextFields in Java Swing?

    - by Jonas
    I am trying to have several JTextFields on a single row, but I don't want them to have the same width. How can I control the width and make some of them wider than others? I want that they together take up 100% of the total width, so it would be good if I could use some kind of weigthing. I have tried with .setColumns() but it doesn't make sense. Here is my code: class Row extends JComponent { public Row() { this.setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.X_AXIS)); JTextField fld1 = new JTextField("First field"); JTextField fld2 = new JTextField("Second field, should be longer"); JTextField fld3 = new JTextField("Short field"); JTextField fld4 = new JTextField("Another field"); fld1.setBorder(null); fld2.setBorder(null); fld3.setBorder(null); fld4.setBorder(null); fld1.setFocusable(false); fld2.setFocusable(false); fld3.setFocusable(false); fld4.setFocusable(false); fld1.setColumns(5); // makes no sense this.add(fld1); this.add(fld2); this.add(fld3); this.add(fld4); } } this.setLayout(new GridLayout(20,0)); this.add(new Row()); this.add(new Row()); this.add(new Row());

  • Can Java ServerSocket and Sockets using ObjectIOStreams lose packets?

    - by Joel Garboden
    I'm using a ServerSocket on my server and Sockets that use ObjectIOStreams to send serializable objects over the network connection. I'm developing an essentially more financial version of monopoly and thus packets being sent and confirmed as sent/received is required. Do I need to implement my own packet loss watcher or is that already taken care of with (Server)Sockets? I'm primarily asking about losing packets during network blips or whatnot, not full connection error. E.g. siblings move a lead plate between my router and computer's wi-fi adapter. http://code.google.com/p/inequity/source/browse/#svn/trunk/src/network Code can be found under network-ClientController and network-Server

  • How does a Java Arraylist contains() method evalute objects?

    - by mvid
    Say i create one object and add it to my ArrayList. If I then create another object with exactly the same constructor input, will the contain() method evaluate the two objects to be the same? Assume the constructor doesn't do anything funny with the input, and the variables stored in both objects are identical. ArrayList<Thing> basket = new ArrayList<Thing>(); Thing thing = new Thing(100); basket.add(thing); Thing another = new Thing(100); basket.contains(another); // true or false?

  • Java InputReader. Detect if file being read is binary?

    - by Trizicus
    I had posted a question in regards to this code. I found that JTextArea does not support the binary type data that is loaded. So my new question is how can I go about detecting the 'bad' file and canceling the file I/O and telling the user that they need to select a new file? class Open extends SwingWorker<Void, String> { File file; JTextArea jta; Open(File file, JTextArea jta) { this.file = file; this.jta = jta; } @Override protected Void doInBackground() throws Exception { BufferedReader br = null; try { br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file)); String line = br.readLine(); while(line != null) { publish(line); line = br.readLine(); } } finally { try { br.close(); } catch (IOException e) { } } return null; } @Override protected void process(List<String> chunks) { for(String s : chunks) jta.append(s + "\n"); } }

  • Cakephp - Banner Problem

    - by Joe Elliott
    Hi guys I have a banner rotator on my main page and it was working but it has stopped. All I have done before it stopped was modified some of the db fields. I added to fields position and company and deleted the field 'description.' It was a friend of a friend that made this part of the site for me while i was on holiday so i dont know which files i should show you cos dont know exactly what hes done but im guessing the following ones are the ones you need. banner_view <div id="banner"> <?php if(!empty($banners) && ($banners['Banner']['position']=='Top')){ foreach($banners as $banner){ ?> <a href="<?php echo $banner['Banner']['url']; ?>"><img src="<?php echo $banner['Banner']['path']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $banner['Banner']['company']; ?>" /></a> <?php } } ?> </div> banner_controller <?php class BannersController extends AppController { var $name = 'Banners'; var $helpers = array('Html', 'Form', 'Ajax','Javascript'); var $layout = 'ajax'; var $components = array('Session', 'Cookie'); function beforeFilter() { parent::beforeFilter(); $this->Auth->allow('index','featrot'); if(strpos($this->here, 'admin')) { $this->layout = 'admin'; } } function index() { Configure::write('debug',0); $this->Banner->recursive = 0; $this->paginate['Banner']; $banners = $this->paginate(); if($banners) { $this->set('banners', $banners); } } function featrot() { Configure::write('debug',0); $this->Banner->recursive = 0; $this->paginate['Banner']; $banners = $this->paginate(); if($banners) { $this->set('banners', $banners); } } function admin_edit(){ $this->pageTitle='Admin section - .: Banners Edit:.'; $banners = $this->Banner->find('first'); $id = $banners['Banner']['id']; if (!empty($this->data)) { $this->Banner->id = $id; if ($this->Banner->save($this->data)) { $this->Session->setFlash(__('The Banner has been updated', true)); } else { $this->Session->setFlash(__('The Banner could not update. Please, try again.', true)); } } if (empty($this->data)) { $this->data = $this->Banner->read(null, $id); } } function admin_display_banners($id=null){ $this->pageTitle='Admin section - .: Banners Setting :.'; if (!empty($this->data)) { $this->Banner->id = $id; if ($this->Banner->save($this->data)) { $this->Session->setFlash(__("Banner#$id has been updated", true)); $this->Banner->id = null; } else { $this->Session->setFlash(__("Banner#$id could not update. Please, try again.", true)); } } $this->data = null; $this->Banner->recursive = -1; $this->paginate['Banner']; $banners = $this->paginate('Banner'); $this->set('banners', $banners); } } ?> banner_model <?php class Banner extends AppModel { var $name = 'Banner'; } ?> Hope this is all the details you need.   • Most Efficient Way of calling an external webservice in Java?

    - by Sudheer
    In one of our applications we need to call the Yahoo Soap Webservice to Get Weather and other related info. I used the wsdl2java tool from axis1.4 and generated th required stubs and wrote a client. I use jsp's use bean to include the client bean and call methods defined in the client which call the yahoo webservice inturn. Now the problem: When users make calls to the jsp the response time of the webservice differs greatly, like for one user it took less then 10 seconds and the other in the same network took more than a minute. I was just wondering if Axis1.4 queues the requests even though the jsps are multithreaded. And finally is there an efficient way of calling the webservice(Yahoo weather). Typically i get around 200 simultaneous requests from my users.

  • A simple free MIDI implementation in Java besides javax.sound.midi: Are there any?

    - by Peterdk
    The problem is: Android doesn't implement javax.sound.midi. I need a simple free library that allows me to create simple 1-track midi files. I searched the net for it, but can't really find anything, since everything uses javax.sound.midi . The license needs to be one where I don't need to opensource my linked app. Any ideas? I also looked into the fileformat itself. However, I am totally not familiar with working with bytes, hexidecimal stuff etc. So, other option is: are there any simple midi implementations that I can use as reference?

  • I want to use 960 or Blueprint, but I also want to use lots of Padding and Borders, is it a good fit

    - by viatropos
    I started using 960 today and thought it would be really easy. However, trying to translate a site to 960 quickly proved tough for many reasons. The first is that I can't use any padding or borders. Unless of course I add many more divs. Same thing with borders. Question is, if I want to use lots of padding and borders (where padding and borders are either 5px "thin" or 10px "thick" styles), are 960 and blueprint overkill? It seems pretty easy to create a custom grid, but once I add padding and borders, 99% of the work is making sure the grid doesn't break. I still am going to end up lining everything up to a 960 grid with 12 columns, but I want to have padding and borders included in the width, and it seems that's not easily possible with 960 or blueprint. What are your thoughts?

  • your experience using symfony 2.0

    - by nightingale2k1
    Hi, I'm going to start a new project that's building web apps from scratch. I have been thinking about using symfony framework for this project. Should I start using symfony 2.0 or stick with 1.4 ? I estimate this project will be finish on May or June this year but I realise that symfony 2.0 still on development. Which one I should use ? I want it to be flexible as possible. I heard also that symfony 2.0 faster than the previous one ...

  • How to create extensible dynamic array in Java without using pre-made classes?

    - by AndrejaKo
    Yeah, it's a homework question, so givemetehkodezplsthx! :) Anyway, here's what I need to do: I need to have a class which will have among its attributes array of objects of another class. The proper way to do this in my opinion would be to use something like LinkedList, Vector or similar. Unfortunately, last time I did that, I got fire and brimstone from my professor, because according to his belief I was using advanced stuff without understanding basics. Now next obvious solution would be to create array with fixed number of elements and add checks to get and set which will see if the array is full. If it is full, they'd create new bigger array, copy older array's data to the new array and return the new array to the caller. If it's mostly empty, they'd create new smaller array and move data from old array to new. To me this looks a bit stupid. For my homework, there probably won't be more that 3 elements in an array, but I'd like to make a scalable solution without manually calculating statistics about how often is array filled, what is the average number of new elements added, then using results of calculation to calculate number of elements in new array and so on. By the way, there is no need to remove elements from the middle of the array. Any tips?

  • Java: how to tell if a line in a text file was supposed to be blank?

    - by defn
    I'm working on a project in which I have to read in a Grammar file (breaking it up into my data structure), with the goal of being able to generate a random "DearJohnLetter". My problem is that when reading in the .txt file, I don't know how find out whether the file was supposed to be a completely blank line or not, which is detrimental to the program. Here is an example of part of the file, How do i tell if the next line was supposed to be a blank line? (btw I'm just using a buffered reader) Thanks! <start> I have to break up with you because <reason> . But let's still <disclaimer> . <reason> <dubious-excuse> <dubious-excuse> , and also because <reason> <dubious-excuse> my <person> doesn't like you I'm in love with <another> I haven't told you this before but <harsh> I didn't have the heart to tell you this when we were going out, but <harsh> you never <romantic-with-me> with me any more you don't <romantic> any more my <someone> said you were bad news
