• FxCop giving a warning on private constructor CA1823 and CA1053

  I have a class that looks like the following: Public Class Utilities Public Shared Function blah(userCode As String) As String 'doing some stuff End Function End Class I'm running FxCop 10 on it and it says: "Because type 'Utilities' contains only 'static' ( 'Shared' in Visual Basic) members, add a default private constructor to prevent the compiler from adding a default public constructor." Ok, you're right Mr. FxCop, I'll add a private constructor: Private Utilities() Now I'm having: "It appears that field 'Utilities.Utilities' is never used or is only ever assigned to. Use this field or remove it." Any ideas of what should I do to get rid of both warnings?

• ag_e_parser_bad_property_value Silverlight Binding Page Title

Title="{Binding Name}"> C# public TablePage() { this.DataContext = new Table() { Name = "Finding Table" }; InitializeComponent(); } Getting a ag_e_parser_bad_property_value error in InitializeComponent at the point where the title binding is happening. I've tried adding static text which works fine. If I use binding anywhere else eg: <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}"/> This doesn't work either. I'm guessing it's complaining because the DataContext object isn't set but if I put in a break point before the InitializeComponent I can confirm it is populated and the Name property is set. Any ideas?

• Grails searchable plugin

  Hi, In my Grails app, I'm using the Searchable plugin for searching/indexing. I want to write a Compass/Lucene query that involves multiple domain classes. Within that query when I want to refer to the id of a class, I can't simply use 'id' because all classes have an 'id' property. Currently, I work around this problem by adding the following property to a class Foo public Long getFooId() { return id } static transients = ['fooId'] Then when I want to refer to the id of Foo within a query I use 'fooId'. Is there a way I can provide an alias for a property in the searchable mapping rather than adding a property to the class?

• Need to make sure value is within 0-255

  This is probably really easy, but I'm lost on how to "make sure" it is in this range.. So basically we have class Color and many functions to implement from it. this function I need is: Effects: corrects a color value to be within 0-255 inclusive. If value is outside this range, adjusts to either 0 or 255, whichever is closer. I'm parsing a single HTML doc that is static (For an undisclosed reason, I can't use an HTML parser to do the job.) However, in the one string, there are many img tags like this, so I need something like an array returned (@1?) is this possible?

• cant populate cells with an array when i have loaded a second UITableViewController

• ApiChange Is Released!

  I have been working on little tool to simplify my life and perhaps yours as developer as well. It is basically a command line tool that allows you to execute queries on your compiled .NET code base. The main purpose is to find out how big the impact of an api change would be if you changed this or that.  Now you can do high level operations like Diff public types for breaking changes. Who uses a method? Who uses a type? Who uses implements an interface? Who references me? What format has the binary  (32/64, Managed C++, Pure IL, Unmanaged)? Search for all event subscribers and unsubscribers. A unique feature is to check for event subscription imbalances. Forgotten event subscriptions are the 90% cause of managed memory leaks. It is done at a per class level. If one class does subscribe to one event more often than it does unsubscribe it is treated as possible event subscription imbalance. Another unique ability is to search for users of string literals which allows you to track users of a string constant which is not possible otherwise. For incremental builds the ShowRebuildTargets command can be used to identify the dependant targets that need a rebuild after you did compile one assembly. It has some heuristics in place to determine the impact of breaking changes and finds out which targets need to be recompiled as well. It has a ton of other features and a an API to access these things programmatically so you can build upon these simple queries create even better tools. Perhaps we get a Visual Studio plug in? You can download it from CodePlex here. It works via XCopy deployment. Simply let it run and check the command line help out. The best feature in my opinion is that the output of nearly all commands can be piped to Excel for further analysis. Since it does read also the pdbs it can show you the source file name and line number as well for all matches. The following picture shows the output of a –WhousesType query. The following command checks where type from BaseLibraryV1.dll are used inside DependantLibV1.dll. All matches are printed out with the reason and matching item along with file and line number. There is even a hyper link to the match which will open Visual Studio. ApiChange -whousestype "*" BaseLibraryV1.dll -in DependantLibV1.dll –excel The "*” is the actual query which means all types. The syntax is the same like in C# just that placeholders are allowed ;-). More info's can be found at the Codeplex Documentation.     The tool was developed in a TDD style manner which means that it is heavily tested and already used by a quite large user base inside the company I do work for. Luckily for you I got the permission to make it public so you take advantage of it. It is fully instrumented with tracing. If you find bugs simply add the –trace command line switch to find out what is failing and send me the output. How is it done? Your first guess might be that it uses reflection. Wrong. It is based on Mono Cecil a free IL parser with a fantastic API to access all internals of a managed assembly. The speed is awesome and to make it even faster I did make the tool heavily multi threaded. The query above did execute in 1.8s with the Excel output. On a rather slow machine I can analyze over 1500 assemblies in less than 40s with a very low memory consumption. The true power of Mono Cecil is that I can load an assembly like any other data file. I have no problems unloading a file but if I would have used reflection I would need to unload a whole AppDomain just to get rid of one assembly in my memory. Just to give you a glimpse how ApiChange.Api.dll can be used I show you one of the unit tests:           public void Can_Find_GenericMethodInvocations_With_Type_Parameters()         { // 1. Without this fantastic piece of code it would have been much much harder. There are other options around like the Common Compiler Infrastructure  Metadata Api which should do the same thing but it was not a real option since the Microsoft reader did fail on even simple assemblies (at least in September 2009 this was the case). Besides this I found the CCI Apis much harder to use. The only real competitor was Reflector which does support many things but does not let me access his cool high level analyze commands. So I decided to dig into the IL specs and as a result you can query your compiled binaries from the command line or programmatically. The best thing is you try it out for yourself and give me some feedback what you miss. • Source control on internet i.e. no private networks.

  Me and my friend are in the process of starting a small project and want to implement a source control. Now both are located in different cities and can communicate using internet for file sharing etc. I need an online hosting solution or any way where i can maintain the source code repository for both of us to check in/out. As of now we want to maintain it as private project. Does sourceforge allow hosting projects which would not be opensource? One option i was thinking, to obtain a static IP form ISP and host the repository.But that mean my system needs to be online when my friend wants to checkin/out or do some diff with old version code. Secondly, would SVN or git be a better choice in such a situation. I have no experience in git/mercurial as of now.

  i am working on a website where i have content entry form. This form contains a tiny mce control. The control is composed of some 40-50 files. The testing reported that the entry form loads slow and evertime shows up 50 files loading to completely load the page. Is there a way i can decrease this time. I have taken help of browser caching by setting the expires header of static content to very far date. When i access the form through its link second or later times it loads fast without saying 40 files remaining. but when i do f5 it reloads the entire page. I m confused as to how is f5 different from clicking on the link. Just to add my url is https.Any suggestion to increase the performance of this form will be great.

• Need to get back form controls' information externally

  Are there any tutorials or guides out there that anyone knows of that will show me how to read forms from an external program and get back information about the controls on the form? Currently, I can get the handle to the form, and I can get the class name, but I need to get more information such as a persistent name and contained data. Thanks. Edit: I now have a way to read the contained data (with the WM_GETTEXT message), however, I still need a persistent name/ID that I can be sure will not change from instance to instance. One way I can think of for doing this is to take the handle, find the position of the control on the window, and then get the handle from the position from then on. Another way is to determine a static ID for the control and then use that to get the handle from then on. The new scope of my problem is how to implement either of these. Any Ideas?

• MySql UDF using shared library won't load

  I am attempting to create a mysql UDF which will match a fingerprint using Digital Persona's free linux SDK library. I have written a trivial UDF as a learning experience which worked fine. However, when I added a dependency to Digital Persona's shared object I can no longer get MySql to load my UDF. I added includes to DP's headers and compiled my UDF using: gcc -fPIC -Wall -I/usr/src/mysql-5.0.45-linux-i686-icc-glibc23/include -shared -o dp_udf.so dp_udf.cc I also tried adding the -static argument, but whenever I restart MySql, I get the error: Can't open shared library 'dp_udf.so' (errno: 0 /usr/local/mysql/lib/plugin/dp_udf.so: undefined symbol: MC_verifyFeaturesEx) MC_verifyFeaturesEx is a function defined "dpMatch.h" which I included, and is implemented in libdpfpapi.so which I have tried placing in the same location as my dp_udf.so and in /usr/lib. Am I doing something wrong with my call to gcc (my C++ skills are rusty) or does MySql not allow UDFs to use additional shared objects?

Any suggestion to how this can be done? Edit: I am not trying to do i18n this way - I use Symfony's built-in methods for that. I simply want "static" urls to reflect the user's language: /en/projects/internal/project-name /no/prosjekter/interne/prosjektnavn /fr/baguette/champs-elysee/foux-de-fafa Where "projects" is a module, the category "internal" and "project-name" are stored in the database.
