  • jQuery code doesn't work when normally run. But i does with breakpoints activated.

    - by Dante
    Hi, I have the following code in my application: $(".deleteproduct").click(function() { id = this.id; alert("id: " + id); }); If i run my site nothing happens when I click on an element with the class deleteproduct. But when I place breakpoints before line 1,2 and 3 it works like a charm. The elements with class deleteproduct are loaded through AJAX call right behind $(document).ready(function(). The .click code is underneath it. This seems really weird to me. It's working if breakpoints in Firebug are used, but not when there are not...

  • How can I call `update_attribute` for a list item in rails then actually update the html using jquery?

    - by Patrick Connor
    I want my users to be able to mark one or more items from an index view as "Active" or "Inactive" using a link. The text for the link should be state aware - so it might default to "Mark as Active" if the corresponding attribute was false or null, and "Mark as Inactive" if true. Once the user clicks the link and the attribute is updated in the controller, the link-text should update based on the new state. I am WAY off here, but this is a small sample of the code I have been trying... CONTROLLER ... respond_to :html, :js ... def update @item = Item.find(params[:id]) if @item.update_attributes(params[:item]) #Not sure of how to respond to .js here end end ... update.js.erb #how do I identify which element to update? $('#item[13456]').html("State aware text for link_to") VIEW - for item in @items = item.name = link_to "Mark as Active", item_path(item), :method => :put, :remote => true. :id => "item[#{item.id}]" I am happy to read any APIs, blogs, tutorials, etc. I just can't seem to get my hands/mind around this task. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

  • jQuery i++ and i-- problems ... what on earth???

    - by michael
    Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm not a newbie at programming but I feel like it tonight! Every time I increment the incrementing variable it throws a fit! When add one to it, it behaves fine, but if I try to add one more to it it wants to add 2 more. And then if I try to de-increment it wants to subtract from the original number that it was assigned to. I've tried: i++; i = i+1; i = i++; Nothing seems to work. It's got to be a stupid mistake. Press the buttons to increment and de-increment. http://michaelreynolds.net/iphone/ here's the code: var dayNum = 30; //---------------------------------------------------------------------- $.jQTouch({ icon: 'dailyqoteicon.png', statusBar: false, initializeTouch: 'a.touch' }); //---------------------------------------------------------------------- $(document).ready(function(){ //$(function(){}); $(function(){ $('a.touch').swipe( function(event, info){ //alert("jQTouch swipe event"); //alert(info.direction); }); }); $(function updateVerse(){ //alert("updateVerse called"); $.ajax({ type: "GET", dataType: 'JSON', data: 'day='+ dayNum, url: 'forward.php', success: function(data){ var obj = $.parseJSON(data); $("h2.quote").html(""); $("h3.reference").html(""); $("h2.quote").append(obj.quote); $("h3.reference").append(obj.reference, " ", obj.version); //$("span.version").append(obj.version); //----------------------------------- // JSON string {"id":"1","quote":"For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain","reference":"Philippians 1:21","version":"NKJV"} }, error: function(request, error){ alert("problem retrieving json data string"); } }); function addDayNum(){ dayNum = dayNum + 1; //dayNum = dayNum++; } function subDayNum(){ dayNum = dayNum - 1; //dayNum = dayNum--; } $("div#header a.next").tap( function(){ addDayNum(); //dayNum++;// doesn't work at all //dayNum = dayNum + 1;//doesn't work at all updateVerse(); //alert(dayNum); //alert("next clicked"); }); $("div#header a.prev").live('click', function(){ subDayNum(); //dayNum--;//doesn't work at all //dayNum = dayNum - 1;// doesn't work at all updateVerse(); //alert(dayNum); //alert("previous clicked"); }); }); });

  • How to use Code Igniter to show Dynamic images via javascript(jQuery).

    - by aaroninfidel
    You can use the URL helper in Code Igniter to load CSS and Javascript with the base_url() method, but what if you have images dynamically being placed into your HTML via javascript? for example in my javascript file I've got var arrowimages={down:['downarrowclass', 'images/down.png', 23], right:['rightarrowclass', 'images/right.png']} and those images will be placed into whatever menu item I've specified has a drop down menu. but that file is a .js file so obviously the server won't load php inside of it. so, how can I set the base url for the JS? Thanks! -Aaron

  • Using jQuery, how to modify text outside of tags?

    - by Jacob
    Given a string of text that is both adjacent to a span and inside of a div, what are some methods to modify just that text, leaving the surrounding HTML intact? For example: <div id="my-div">modify this text<span id="my-span"></span></div> I have tried things like $('#my-div').html(function(i, elem){blah;}); but this seems to cause the span to be deleted and a new span to be added, because some styling is lost. I realize that it would be best to wrap the text string in its own HTML tags before applying client-side code, but that is out of my control.

  • jQuery: How do I pass a value into an Ajax call?

    - by Legend
    I am updating some div as follows: for(var i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { var query = base_url + data[i]; $.ajax({ url: query, type: 'GET', dataType: 'jsonp', timeout: 2000, error: function() { self.html("Network Error"); }, success: function(json) { $("#li" + i).html("<img src='" + json.result.list[0].url + "' />") } }); } The value of i does not work inside the ajax call. I am trying to pass the value of i so that it can attach the element to the proper div. Can someone help me out?

  • How do you use jQuery .data() to store html?

    - by Al
    Hi all - when I look up the syntax for .data(), it gives examples like this: $('body').data('foo', 52); I am doing AJAX loads and I was wondering if it is possible to store the incoming html using .data() so once the content is loaded, I would not need to do another AJAX load if the same link is clicked again - I would check to see if the .data key is empty. Would something like this work?: To load the contents of a #ajaxdiv into storage: $('body').data('storage', div#ajaxdiv.html()); To test if the data has already been loaded: if $('body').data('storage') != '' { div#ajaxdiv.html($('body').data('storage')); } Thanks in advance!! • When is 'focus' called in 'autocomplete'

    - by user470184
    The 'focus' documentation from http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/ states : focusType:autocompletefocus Before focus is moved to an item (not selecting), ui.item refers to the focused item. The default action of focus is to replace the text field's value with the value of the focused item, though only if the focus event was triggered by a keyboard interaction. Canceling this event prevents the value from being updated, but does not prevent the menu item from being focused. Code examples Supply a callback function to handle the focus event as an init option. $( ".selector" ).autocomplete({ focus: function(event, ui) { ... } }); Bind to the focus event by type: autocompletefocus. $( ".selector" ).bind( "autocompletefocus", function(event, ui) { ... }); Using below code sets an attribute called 'mytag' with value 'tester' on all of the autocomplete elements even though I have not selected the elements. Why is the attribute 'focus' not added just when one of the drop downs is focused, instead of being added when page is loaded ? $("#myDiv").autocomplete({ source: availableTags, focus: function(event, ui) { $(".ui-autocomplete li").attr("mytag", "tester"); } });

  • jQuery Ajax loads URL multiple times, how do I unbind/rebind properly?

    - by gmoz22
    I load a SELECT element via Ajax (list of brands), get its selected value (brand id) and load another SELECT via another Ajax URL (list of templates for currently selected brand). Here's my code: $(document).ready( function() { // DO NOT cache Ajax calls $.ajaxSetup ({ cache: false }); // loader var ajax_load = "Loading..."; // Brands List URL var loadBrandUrl = "getBrandsList.php"; // Templates List URL var loadTemplateUrl = "getTemplatesList.php"; $("#brandslistSelect").html(ajax_load).load(loadBrandUrl) .ajaxComplete(function(){ // Brands select loaded /* Load Templates SELECT the first time since no .change() has happened */ var selectedBrand = $("#brandslistSelect option:selected").attr("value"); // get the value console.log(selectedBrand); // Log selected brand to console // get Templates select, commented for now since it does an infinite loop // $("#templateslistSelect").html(ajax_load).load(loadTemplateUrl, { BrandId: selectedBrand } ); /* End initial load template */ /* On interaction with the Brands SELECT */ $("#brandslistSelect").change(function () { // on interaction with select selectedBrand = $("#brandslistSelect option:selected").attr("value"); // get the value // get Templates SELECT $("#templateslistSelect").html(ajax_load).load(loadTemplateUrl, { BrandId: selectedBrand } ) }); /* End interaction with the Brands SELECT */ }); }); It returns selectedBrand in the console 3 times : selectedBrand = undefined selectedBrand = undefined selectedBrand = 101 Now, if I uncomment the following line, same output as above but it also loads the templates URL indefinitely : // $("#templateslistSelect").html(ajax_load).load(loadTemplateUrl, { BrandId: selectedBrand } ); Any idea how I could modify this code to make it work as intended? Thanks for your help stackOverflow community!

  • Can you stop a defered callback in jquery 1.5?

    - by chobo2
    Hi I am wondering say you have something like this // Assign handlers immediately after making the request, // and remember the jqxhr object for this request var jqxhr = $.ajax({ url: "example.php" }) .success(function(response) { alert("success"); }) // perform other work here ... // Set another success function for the request above jqxhr.success(function(response){ alert("second success"); }); So I am thinking this. I have a general function that I want to use on all my responses that would be passed into my success. This function basically does a check to see if the server validation found any errors. If it did they it formats it and displays a message. Now I am wondering if I could some how have the second success function to then do specific stuff. Like say One ajax request needs to add a row into a table. So this should be possible. I just do what I have above and in the second success I just add the row. Is it possible though that if the first success runs through and see that there are validation errors from the server that I can stop the second success from happening? Sort of If(first success finds errors) { // print out errors // don't continue onto next success } else { // go to next success } Edit I found that there is something call deferred.reject and this does stop it but I am wondering how can I specify to stop only the success one. Since my thinking is if there are other deffered ones like complete on it will the be rejected too?

  • jquery element not defined, but it used to skip it...

    - by pfunc
    I recently transferred a site to a new host. Reloaded everything, and the javascript that worked fine before is breaking at an element it can't find. $('#emailForm') is not defined. Now, the #emailform isn't on the page, but it wasn't before either, and JS used to skip this and it would just work. Not sure why this is happening. Any clues?

  • jquery show / hide div on click even in a slideshow?

    - by KnockKnockWhosThere
    Is it possible to combine a slideshow and show / hide div functionality? My html structure is below, and basically, I'm trying to get the tabs a links to open up the div with the corresponding class if a user clicks on it. If a user doesn't click on it, it should still just cycle through each image. So, if the images are rotating, and I click on <a class="t2"> then would open. The thing is, it's unknown how many divs / tabs there will be, but they'll always be named t{n}. <div id="tab-content"> <div class="t1">content</div> <div class="t2">lorem ipsum</div> <div class="t3">knock knock</div> </div> <div id="nav"> <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li class="t1"><a class="t1" href="#">tab 1</a></li> <li class="t2"><a class="t2" href="#">tab 2</a></li> <li class="t3"><a class="t3" href="#">tab 3</a></li> </ul> </div> </div>

  • Unable to fetch Json data from remote url

    - by user3772611
    I am cracking my head to solve this thing. I am unable to fetch the JSON data from remote REST API. I need to fetch the JSOn data nd display the "html_url" field from the JSON data on my website. I saw that you need the below charset and content type for fetching JSON. <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/json"> </head> <body> <p>My Instruments page</p> <ul></ul> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.0.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { alert("Inside the script"); $.getJSON(" https://pki.zendesk.com/api/v2/help_center/sections/200268985/articles.json", function (obj) { alert("Inside the getJSON"); $.each(obj, function (key, value) { $("ul").append("<li>" + value.html_url + "</li>"); }); }); }); </script> </body> </html> I referred to following example on jsfiddle http://jsfiddle.net/2xTjf/29/ The "http://date.jsontest.com" given in this example also doesn't work in my code. The first alert is pops but not the other one. I am a novice at JSON/ Jquery. i used jsonlint.com to find if it has valid JSON, it came out valid. I tested using chrome REST client too. What am I missing here ? Help me please ! Thanks in anticipation.

  • Is there an alias for 'this' in TypeScript?

    - by Todd
    I've attempted to write a class in TypeScript that has a method defined which acts as an event handler callback to a jQuery event. class Editor { textarea: JQuery; constructor(public id: string) { this.textarea = $(id); this.textarea.focusin(onFocusIn); } onFocusIn(e: JQueryEventObject) { var height = this.textarea.css('height'); // <-- This is not good. } } Within the onFocusIn event handler, TypeScript sees 'this' as being the 'this' of the class. However, jQuery overrides the this reference and sets it to the DOM object associated with the event. One alternative is to define a lambda within the constructor as the event handler, in which case TypeScript creates a sort of closure with a hidden _this alias. class Editor { textarea: JQuery; constructor(public id: string) { this.textarea = $(id); this.textarea.focusin((e) => { var height = this.textarea.css('height'); // <-- This is good. }); } } My question is, is there another way to access the this reference within the method-based event handler using TypeScript, to overcome this jQuery behavior?

  • timeline charts with rich ui

    - by Karthick R
    hi all, I have a requirement to come up with a time line chart and a few more controls on a single page[with rich ui]. I have short listed Flex, JSF[apache trinidad], html5, gwt these technologies. None of them provide timeline charts on their own. I am looking at other options such as using third party libraries. The chart should have drill down capabilities as well. Let me know if there is any specific technology that I should try. regards

  • jQuery: Adding li element only if it not already there?

    - by Legend
    I am constructing an <li> element like this: var element = $("<li></li>") .html(mHTML) .attr('id', "elemid"); I am trying to add this element to a <ul> element only if it doesn't already exist. Any ideas on how to do this? Am I supposed to use contains() to see if the ul element contain the html and then decide? For instance, <ul id="elemul"> <li id="elemli1">Element 1</li> <li id="elemli2">Element 2</li> <li id="elemli3">Element 3</li> </ul> If I try adding Element 1, it should not add it. What should I do if its a longer string (not really long but about 150 characters). Do I go about using hashmaps?
