  • How do I put static data into an SQLite database in Android?

    If I have a bunch of data that is never going to change (eg. an English language dictionary or the rgb values of a couple hundred color names), how do I use an SQLite database to store it? I know a database is faster than loading everything into memory when the app starts, but how do I make the database either the first time the app runs or "before" the apps ever runs?

    Hi all, I'm quite new to flex/actionscript and I was wondering if there is an equivalent for php's (and other languages) FILE and LINE identifiers? Basicly I want to do some custom error logging and would like to something like: var mymessage:String = 'Oops, a hiccup occured at ' + __FILE__ + ', line: ' + __LINE__; Where file and line would ofcourse be substituted for their values at compile time.   • Syntax error while copying an multidimensional array to another in C

    We are programming a ST269 microcontroller which has two IR distance sensors. To calibrate these sensors we made one table for each sensor with the distance we measured and the corresponding value we get from the ADC. Now we want to use one function to approximate the values in between. So we defined two two-dimensional arrays (one for each sensor) as global variables. In our function we then want to copy the one array we want to work with to a working array and approximate our values. We didn't write anything about our global arrays in the sensor.h should we? The sensor.h of course is included in our main.c and there the function is called. We also tried to copy the arrays via memcpy(working_array, ir_werte_li, sizeof(working_array)); And in every way we do this we get a syntax error near unsigned in the line where we're declaring unsigned int y1 = 0; and I'm pretty sure that there is no syntax error in this line : ) The last time I spend coding in C is a few years away so I'm not sure if the way we try to do this is good. Perhaps we can solve this by using a pointer instead of really copying the array or something. So please help me out I'll appreciate your bits on this.

    I'm inserting new rows into a SQLite table, but I don't want to insert duplicate rows. I also don't want to specify every column in the database if possible. I don't even know if this is possible. I should be able to take my values and create a new row with them, but if they duplicate another row they should either overwrite the existing row or do nothing.

My problem comes up when it's time to persist an object. At runtime, I can create an object which could be an instance of DerivedClass, DerivedClassA or DerivedClassB. As you can see, each one of the derived classes introduces a new field which only makes sense for that specific derived class. All the classes share the same physical table in the database. If I persist an object of type DerivedClass, I expect fields BE_FIELD, DE_FIELD, ID and TYPE to be persisted with their values and the remaining fields to be null. If I persist an object of type DerivedClass A, I expect those same fields plus the FIELD_CLASS_A field to be persisted with their values and field FIELD_CLASS_B to be null. Something equivalent for an object of type DerivedClassB. Since the @Embedded annotation is at the BaseClass only, Hibernate is only persisting the fields up to that level in the tree. I don't know how to tell Hibernate that I want to persist up to the appropriate level in the tree, depending on the actual type of the embedded property. I cannot have another @Embedded property in the subclasses since this would duplicate data that is already present in the superclass and would also break the Java model. I cannot declare the embedded property to be of a more specific type either, since it's only at runtime when the actual object is created and I don't have a single branch in the hierarchy. Is it possible to solve my problem? Or should I resignate myself to accept that there is no way to persist the Java model as it is? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I keep coming across scenarios where it will be useful to store a set of arbitrary data in a table using a per-row key/value model, rather than a rigid column/field model. The problem is, I want to store the values with their correct data type rather than converting everything to a string. This means I have to choose either a single table with multiple nullable columns, one for each data type, or a set of value tables, one for each data type. I'm also unsure as to whether I should use full third normal form and separate the keys into a separate table, referencing them via a foreign key from the value table(s), or if it would be better to keep things simple and store the string keys in the value table(s) and accept the duplication of strings. Old/bad: This solution makes adding additional values a pain in a fluid environment because the table needs to be modified regularly. The querying code still needs to check for nulls to determine which data type the field is storing.
