  • Take ownership in windows 7/8 does not work

    I have taken ownership of my external HDD and now I should be able to access every folder but I can't. There are numerous folders for which I don't have the ownership of. I tried taking ownership of those but after I close/reopen an explorer windows the ownership resets itself to what it was before. For example I have a folder which now has this S-1-5-21-95661877-3860777391-1413521220-1000 and a subfolder of this which has Unable to display current owner. If I take the ownership of the subfolder it shows me as the owner but I still can't access it; I get "You don't currently have permission ...".

  • cd not doing anything in the Windows Shell [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Using cd Command in Windows Command Line, Can’t Navigate to D:\ Look at the latter lines of the shell, the cd lines. Nothing's happening :( This is the Win8 shell. I used to have Win7 on C:\, and have since installed Win8 on D:. As you can see, the prompt is in C:\, and so I'm trying to move it to D:\ where it should be. And nothing's happening. How can I change the directory? (Bonus points to anyone who can tell be how to change the default shell directory.

  • pdftotext not outputting hebrew characters

    I'm using Xpdf's pdftotext to get the text out of some hebrew pdf files on Ubuntu. On my local machine this worked fine. I then tried to do it on another machine and the hebrew characters don't show up in the text file. I verified that I have the language package (see below why I think so). RubyKaigi is a conference run by Ruby enthusiasts (as opposed to it being a trade conference, or an academic conference). The proposal form can be seen here. So far, my draft proposal about a program I'm working on mentions: What the program is useful for and why it is relevant. How it works. What topics it touches upon (such as metaprogramming and testing) Is there anything that I should mention in my proposal? Also, how thorough should I be in my "Details of your talk" section? Should I be exhaustive, or only have a couple of short paragraphs?

  • Not able to Defrag my drive for shrink even using PerfectDisk on Windows 7

    I want to partition my c drive which has over 450gb capacity of which hardly 30gb is being used. I deleted the pagefile.sys and also disabled hibernate and cache memory. I then defragmented and consolidated free space using PerfectDisk 12 and also run a boot time defragmented. Now what remains is Metadata files that preventing me from shrinking the volume beyond half the size if disk. Please tell me what to do?????

  • Postfix not working

    A while ago I installed the postfix mail server on my ubuntu 10.04 VPS. At the time it was working good but now it's just stopped working. I was trying to enable SASL authentification and somewhere it must have went really wrong. I've studied the postfix main.cf and done everything in an orderly fashion to ensure that it is nothing wrong. I also have Dovecot installed and configured dovecot.conf to run with Postfix. If I try to do telnet localhost 25 while logged in on the server I just get: Connection closed by foreign host.   • MySQL slave server not removing old relay binlogs

    I have a MySQL server with slave replication on another host. Today I stumbled across the high disk usage of the slave host and invastigated what takes up all the space. As it turns out this space is occupied by the slaves relay logs. I tried to turn the expire_logs_days variable down and restarted the MySQL daemon but the reported disk space stays the same. I could't really find anything exept that FLUSH LOGS should clear old logs. I tried that with no result. Is there any way I can reduce the disk space that the relay logs take?

  • virtual mac osx 10.6.8 in VMWare does not save screen captures

    I have a VMWare image of a mac OSX 10.6.8 (fully updated). When I click Commnd+Shift+3 it makes a camera shutter sound, but no screen-capture is saved anywhere that I can find. When running: defaults read com.apple.screencapture location it returns /Users/admin/Pictures/Captures this folder exists and is empty also executed chmod 777 /Users/admin/Pictures/Captures Any ideas anyone ? Could this be related to the VMware screen resolution(Size) of this MAC? (currently set to 1348x1391)

  • Connecting a network printer via a Thecus N2100 - works in Vista, not in Windows 7

    I have a Lexmark E250d printer attached to a Thecus N2100 NAS. On Windows Vista I've managed to configure this using an "Internet" printer port with the URL of http://thecus:631/printers/usb-printer. I can add a printer in a similar way in Windows 7, but it never manages to print the test page. If I go to "Configure Port" in Vista, it just has "Security Options" - on Windows 7 it's asking about Raw mode vs LPR mode etc. On Vista I'm using an E250d-specific driver from Lexmark; on Windows 7 there's a Microsoft E250d driver, or a Universal PCL XL driver from Lexmark... I wouldn't expect this different to be related to the problem, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. (Lexmark doesn't have a Windows 7 E250d-specific driver as far as I can see.) Any suggestions? I was thinking of upgrading my main laptop from Vista to Windows 7, but I'd really like to get this sorted first... EDIT: If I connect to http://thecus:631/printers/usb-printer via Chrome while capturing with Wireshark, I get this response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Wed, 06 Jan 2010 16:47:23 GMT Connection: Keep-Alive Keep-Alive: timeout=60 Content-Language: C Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html;charset=iso-8859-1 0 No idea what that's meant to be doing... EDIT: On further consultation, this would appear to be the Internet Printing Protocol which is layered on HTTP. Printing a test page successfully from Vista posts to that URL. Will attempt the same on Windows 7...

  • Apache2.2 not responding on Windows 7 desktop

    Afternoon! I'm having some trouble with Apache2.2 on Windows 7. For over a year it's been running no problem, but all of a sudden requests have just stopped responding. They don't ever time out, the browser just keeps on waiting for a response, which makes me think it's something blocking communication with Apache. Interestingly though, if I stop Apache the requests fail immediately. The Apache service is running, and using netstat I can see it listening on port 80 as configured: TCP 127.0.0.1:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING If I stop the Apache service, that line disappears. I have an entry within my hosts file for each VHost I'm trying, all pointing to 127.0.0.1. Each VHost is configured to *:80. Nothing however is getting recorded in the access or error (at debug level) log files. I've verified the file paths are correct, even though they were never changed. Neither is anything getting recorded within Windows' Event Log. The problem showed up when I added a new VHost and restarted, however I hadn't been using it for a couple of days prior so I don't believe it's the config change. I have performed a syntax check to be sure, and when starting from the command prompt no errors are reported there. I do have Windows Firewall running, however I've verified the Apache rule is correct and tried turning it off to ensure that wasn't the problem. I've reinstalled Apache, in the hope it might magically fix something using the default config, but still no joy. I've also tried using a different port. I'm completely lost for ideas now.     I have two domains hosting in two different servers: domain1.com & domain2.com I would like to forward "blog.domain1.com" to "blog2.domain2.com" which is a Wordpress blog using CNAME redirect. Before I installed Wordpress. blog.domain1.com (=redirect=) blog2.domain2.com/index.htm (working fine) The browser will keep the URL (http://blog.domain1.com) even the index.htm is on domain2.com server.   • PHP memory_limit local value does not match php.ini value

    CentOS system. Summary: changed memory_limit in master and local php.ini and yet no change in the local value for a particular virtual host. Trying to improve performance, I set the memory_limit to 1024M in /etc/php.ini phpinfo() shows Master and Local values for other virtual hosts on the server as 1024M. Changing the value in /etc/php.ini changes all values, except one. One site is stuck with a local value of 256M. I thought I found the problem: there is a php.ini file (which I didn't know about) in that site's root, and it had memory_limit = 256M I changed it to 1024M. Problem solved? No. And now I don't know where to look. Obviously, I've restarted apache (/etc/init.d/httpd restart), and that usually does the trick. I also turned off APC cache, though I don't think it would cache ini files. And finally, I tried adding this to the virtual host in httpd.conf: php_value memory_limit 536870912 (yes, that would be 5 GB) And that had no effect whatsoever. What else could be the problem?   • Automatically wake up notebooks not on the ethernet

    I am looking for an automated backup system and I like bacula. I have 3 Notebooks and a Desktop computer that need regular backup. Now I don't want to let them run all night just to do the backuping, so I was thinking I could use wake-on-lan to have bacula wake up the machines, then do the backups, and shut them down afterswards. While this may work with devices on the ethernet, it won't work with the Notebooks on the wifi. So is it possible to have the Notebooks schedules to automatically wake up from suspend or shutdown ? Or is it possible to interject a shutdown command if it is after a certain hour and call the bacula director to start the backup now? I'm new to controlling the linux system using scripts, so any hints on how and where to start are greatly appreciated. Thanks alot for your help, input and ideas.

    I have a problem with the window title in the Terminal window on OS X: Start Terminal. Window title is "bash" Type "ssh external" to connect to an external server. Window title is "user@external:~" Type "exit". I am now back at my local machine, but the window title still says "user@external:~". How do I make the window title return to "bash", which I assume would be correct since I have logged out of the external server and returned to my local machine? My ~/.bash_profile has the same PS1 value: export PS1='\w$ '

  • Adobe Reader not loading form content

    We have an FDL file which is used to offer an online application possibility. The FDL is filled out and sent to a mailbox. When I open the received file, Adobe Reader starts, loads the document in Internet Explorer (had to change my default browser because it doesn't work in chrome - the customer uses IE as default) and displays a warning that Adobe Reader has blocked the connection to the server where the initial document is saved: I can then click on "Trust this document once" (translated by me!) or "Add this host to trusted hosts" (also translated by me!). The second option doesn't work at all. The first option works but is a little bit annoying. I looked into Adobe Readers options (Edit - "Voreinstellungen" in german / the last option - Security (advanced)) and found the possibility to add hosts, files and directories or allow Adobe Reader to use the "Trusted Websites" list from Internetoptions. When I add the website either to Trusted Websites or the trusted list in Adobe Readers options, the warning doesn't pop up but the content in the prefilled (by the applicant) input boxes of the document doesn't show up on Windows 7 but it does show up on Windows XP. This Screenshot shows the settings window described in the last paragraph. The big input box at the bottom normally holds the trusted files/directories/hosts list. System Information: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Adobe Reader X multiple IE versions (mine is latest but there's also IE 7 or 8) How do I get Adobe Reader to load the content of the form? This behaviour can be reproduced on a PC. When opening an fdf from a command line the form fields are blank even though there is data in the fdf and the pdf is located in a mnaully entered trsuted folder. Steps to reproduce: Clean install a Windows 7 PC (or use a virtual box) Map a network drive to a shared folder with a subfolder e.g. c:\test\docs becomes m:\docs Set security permissions to allow full control to everyone Add an fdf and a matching pdf file in the subfolder Manually add m:\docs to each of the trusted folders in the trust manager registry settings Ensure that Enhanced Security is on Run a command line to open the fdf file Expected result: pdf is opened in Adobe Reader with form fields filled out with data Actual results: pdf is opened with blank fields 'Yellow bar' appears asking to add document to trusted locations It appears that Adobe Reader XI is ignoring the privileged locations entries in the registry. Adding the document via the 'yellow bar' adds the individual document, with the same folder, to the privileged locations but means that the process has to be repeated for every document that needs to be opened from the folder.

  • XDMCP works for Solaris, not for RHEL

    I have some old RHEL4 servers that until recently I was able to connect to remotely with Exceed (remote desktop using XDMCP) from my windowsXP PC. My PC is connected to our network by wired LAN. Recently it seems something has changed in our network. I can still connect to all the old Solaris and HPUX servers with Exceed, but for some reason I can no longer connect to the RHEL4 servers. I assume this is some kind of "security" feature turned on in our network. Does anyone know what this might be, and how I can tell IT to re-enable it? Update: A colleague has found that he can connect (very slowly) to these RHEL4 boxes with XDMCP if he is using our VPN from home, but when he is in the office using wired LAN he cannot connect to them. So it seems that there is some kind of firewall or ???, part of our wired LAN network, that is blocking XDMCP traffic from RHEL4.

In outlook I have created a rule in the “noreply” account where I chose following conditions: Send to a person or distributed list (where I selected my distributed group) Then to specify what to do with that message I selected Have server reply using a specific message I’ve created my message and saved it.   • FreeNX Server w/ nxagent 3.5 not able to create shadow sessions

    I am running a FreeNX server on Ubuntu 11.10 and am unable to do session shadowing. I get the authorization prompt, but the shadow client crashes after. The NX server log in the user's .nx directory is as follows: Error: Aborting session with 'Server is already active for display 3000 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X3000-lock and start again'. Session: Aborting session at 'Mon Oct 1 14:26:44 2012'. Session: Session aborted at 'Mon Oct 1 14:26:44 2012'. This then deletes the lock file, which is the lock file for the initial Unix session and crashes out. Everything works for a normal session, and shadowing works up to the authorization prompt.   • Remote Desktop not following display settings

    I have my RDP client set up to use highest settings for connecting to another PC on my LAN, which has display settings 1280x1024x32bit. RDP is specifically set to use 32bit depth, but when I connect it drops to 16bit. The PC I connect to is (amongst other things) used to do some 3D graphics. I don't expect great performance, just to check it works... but it doesn't over RDP, the 3D app doesn't think the hardware is the same. Does RDP's integration with Windows mean it is providing some virtualised rendering system? Should I use something less 'clever' like VNC, to literally screen-grab the contents of the screen without altering the settings?

    I have bash script which has lots of echo statements and also I aliased echo to echo -e both in .bash_profile and .bashrc, so that new lines are printed properly for a statement like echo 'Hello\nWorld' the output should be Hello World but the output I am getting is Hello\nWorld I even tried using shopt -s expand_aliases in the script, it doesn't help I am running my script as bash /scripts/scriptnm.sh; if I run it as . /scripts/scriptnm.sh I am getting the desired output...

    I would like to do a backup of some movies on DVD with File Factory. In the output setting, by default the option 2 pass encoding is disabled. Do I need to enable it for better quality and does it worth?
