  • How to retrieve only updated/new records since the last query in SQL?

    - by William Choi
    Hi all, I was asked to design a class for caching SQL query results. Calling the class' query method will query and cache the entire set of results at the first time; afterward, each subsequence query will retrieve only the updated portion, and will merge the result into the cache. If the class is required to be generic, i.e. NO knowledge about the db and the tables, do you have any idea? Is it possible, and how to retrieve only updated/new records since the last query? Thanks! William

  • internet explorer and google chrome rendering issues

    - by jeansymolanza
    hi guys, i'm trying to build a login and main page on dreamweaver for a client and testing them in google chrome and internet explorer but i am running into a lot of unexpected difficulties. the main thing has to be the way the tables are being rendered on the different pages. it seems to appear well on google chrome but when i test the page under internet explorer there have been issues with the way the footer is being rendered. i've included several images showing the problem: login page on IE8 http://i39.tinypic.com/iz9lw3.jpg login page on google chrome http://i44.tinypic.com/1zn0qd2.jpg main page on IE8 http://i41.tinypic.com/2d0gyhf.jpg main page on google chrome http://i42.tinypic.com/2ry58aw.jpg login fail on IE8 http://i40.tinypic.com/2jea9ac.jpg login fail on google chrome http://i43.tinypic.com/sl35h2.jpg please help! i have included the source code below. i spent an entire night trying to figure out what was wrong but to little success. login page: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; • Database design grouping contacts by lists and companies

    - by Serge
    Hi, I'm wondering what would be the best way to group contacts by their company. Right now a user can group their contacts by custom created lists but I'd like to be able to group contacts by their company as well as store the contact's position (i.e. Project Manager of XYZ company). Database wise this is what I have for grouping contacts into lists contact [id_contact] [int] PK NOT NULL, [lastName] [varchar] (128) NULL, [firstName] [varchar] (128) NULL, ...... contact_list [id_contact] [int] FK, [id_list] [int] FK, list [id_list] [int] PK [id_user] [int] FK [list_name] [varchar] (128) NOT NULL, [description] [TEXT] NULL Should I implement something similar for grouping contacts by company? If so how would I store the contact's position in that company and how can I prevent data corruption if a user modifies a contact's company name. For instance John Doe changed companies but the other co-workers are still in the old company. I doubt that will happen often (might not even happen at all) but better be safe than sorry. I'm also keeping an audit trail so in a way the contact would still need to be linked to the old company as well as the new one but without confusing what company he's actually working at the moment. I hope that made sense... Has anyone encountered such a problem? UPDATE Would something like this make sense contact_company [id_contact_company] [int] PK [id_contact] [int] FK [id_company] [int] FK [contact_title] [varchar] (128) company [id_company] [int] PK NOT NULL, [company_name] [varchar] (128) NULL, [company_description] [varchar] (300) NULL, [created_date] [datetime] NOT NULL This way a contact can work for more than one company and contacts can be grouped by companies

  • Place Query Results into Array then Implode?

    - by jason
    Basically I pull an Id from table1, use that id to find a site id in table2, then need to use the site ids in an array, implode, and query table3 for site names. I cannot implode the array correctly first I got an error, then used a while loop. With the while loop the output simply says: Array $mysqli = mysqli_connect("server", "login", "pass", "db"); $sql = "SELECT MarketID FROM marketdates WHERE Date = '2010-04-04 00:00:00' AND VenueID = '2'"; $result = mysqli_query($mysqli, $sql) or die(mysqli_error($mysqli)); $dates_id = mysqli_fetch_assoc ( $result ); $comma_separated = implode(",", $dates_id); echo $comma_separated; //This Returns 79, which is correct. $sql = "SELECT SIteID FROM bookings WHERE BSH_ID = '1' AND MarketID = '$comma_separated'"; $result = mysqli_query($mysqli, $sql) or die(mysqli_error($mysqli)); // This is where my problems start $SIteID = array(); while ($newArray = mysqli_fetch_array($result, MYSQLI_ASSOC)) { $SIteID[] = $newArray[SIteID]; } $locationList = implode(",",$SIteID); ?> Basically what I need to do is correctly move the query results to an array that I can implode and use in a 3rd query to pull names from table3.

  • Fulltext search on many tables

    - by Rob
    I have three tables, all of which have a column with a fulltext index. The user will enter search terms into a single text box, and then all three tables will be searched. This is better explained with an example: documents doc_id name FULLTEXT table2 id doc_id a_field FULLTEXT table3 id doc_id another_field FULLTEXT (I realise this looks stupid but that's because I've removed all the other fields and tables to simplify it). So basically I want to do a fulltext search on name, a_field and another_field, and then show the results as a list of documents, preferably with what caused that document to be found, e.g. if another_field matched, I would display what another_field is. I began working on a system whereby three fulltext search queries are performed and the results inserted into a table with a structure like: search_results table_name row_id score (This could later be made to cache results for a few days with e.g. a hash of the search terms). This idea has two problems. The first is that the same document can be in the search results up to three times with different scores. Instead of that, if the search term is matched in two tables, it should have one result, but a higher score. The second is that parsing the results is difficult. I want to display a list of documents, but I don't immediately know the doc_id without a join of some kind; however the table to join to is dependant on the table_name column, and I'm not sure how to accomplish that. Wanting to search multiple related tables like this must be a common thing, so I guess what I'm asking is am I approaching this in the right way? Can someone tell me the best way of doing it please.

  • Fixing Unicode Oops

    - by Mez
    It seems that we have managed to insert into our database 2 unicode characters for each of the unicode characters we want, For example, for the unicde char 0x3CBC, we've inserted the unicode equivalents for each of it's components (0xC383 AND 0xC2BC) Can anyone think of a simple solution for fixing this? I've come up with something like SELECT replace(name, CONCAT(0xC3,0x83,0xc2,0xbc), CONCAT(0xc3,0xbc)) FROM lang For the above, but don't want to have to do this for every unicode character!

  • Move million records from MEMORY table to MYISAM table.

    - by Prashant
    Hi, I am looking for a fast way to move records from a MEMORY table to MYISAM table. MEMORY table has around 0.5 million records. Both tables have exactly the same structure (same number of columns, data types etc.). But the MYISAM table is indexed (B-TREE) on a few columns. There are around 25 columns most of which are unsigned integers. I have already tried using "INSERT INTO SELECT * FROM " query. But is there any faster way to do this? Appreciate your help. Prashant

  • Successful SQL Injection despite PHP Magic Quotes

    - by Crimson
    I have always read that Magic Quotes do not stop SQL Injections at all but I am not able to understand why not! As an example, let's say we have the following query: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='$x'; Now, if the user input makes $x=' OR 1=1 --, the query would be: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='\' OR 1=1 --'; The backslash will be added by Magic Quotes with no damage done whatsoever! Is there a way that I am not seeing where the user can bypass the Magic Quote insertions here?

  • Should you do validation checks that go outside the possiblility of normal user activity?

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys I have been thinking about form security a lot lately. I have been told time and time again to check if form input is a number if you are expecting a number or escape it in case (unless you use proper mysqli formatting) to avoid injection. 1.After the safety checks are done, should I do additional logic checks? For example, if the user is sending a friend request to them-self for example even if my user interface will not show the form if the user is looking at their own page.

  • How can I run .aggregate() on a field introduced using .extra(select={...}) in a Django Query?

    - by Jake
    I'm trying to get the count of the number of times a player played each week like this: player.game_objects.extra(select={'week': 'WEEK(`games_game`.`date`)'}).aggregate(count=Count('week')) But Django complains that FieldError: Cannot resolve keyword 'week' into field. Choices are: <lists model fields> I can do it in raw SQL like this SELECT WEEK(date) as week, COUNT(WEEK(date)) as count FROM games_game WHERE player_id = 3 GROUP BY week Is there a good way to do this without executing raw SQL in Django?

  • Comparing two date ranges within the same table

    - by Danny Herran
    I have a table with sales per store as follows: SQL> select * from sales; ID ID_STORE DATE TOTAL ---------- -------- ---------- -------------------------------------------------- 1 1 2010-01-01 500.00 2 1 2010-01-02 185.00 3 1 2010-01-03 135.00 4 1 2009-01-01 165.00 5 1 2009-01-02 175.00 6 5 2010-01-01 130.00 7 5 2010-01-02 135.00 8 5 2010-01-03 130.00 9 6 2010-01-01 100.00 10 6 2010-01-02 12.00 11 6 2010-01-03 85.00 12 6 2009-01-01 135.00 13 6 2009-01-02 400.00 14 6 2009-01-07 21.00 15 6 2009-01-08 45.00 16 8 2009-01-09 123.00 17 8 2009-01-10 581.00 17 rows selected. What I need to do is to compare two date ranges within that table. Lets say I need to know the differences in sales between 01 Jan 2009 to 10 Jan 2009 AGAINST 01 Jan 2010 to 10 Jan 2010. I'd like to build a query that returns something like this: ID_STORE_A DATE_A TOTAL_A ID_STORE_B DATE_B TOTAL_B ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ---------- ------------------- 1 2010-01-01 500.00 1 2009-01-01 165.00 1 2010-01-02 185.00 1 2009-01-02 175.00 1 2010-01-03 135.00 1 NULL NULL 5 2010-01-01 130.00 5 NULL NULL 5 2010-01-02 135.00 5 NULL NULL 5 2010-01-03 130.00 5 NULL NULL 6 2010-01-01 100.00 6 2009-01-01 135.00 6 2010-01-02 12.00 6 2009-01-02 400.00 6 2010-01-03 85.00 6 NULL NULL 6 NULL NULL 6 2009-01-07 21.00 6 NULL NULL 6 2009-01-08 45.00 6 NULL NULL 8 2009-01-09 123.00 6 NULL NULL 8 2009-01-10 581.00 So, even if there are no sales in one range or another, it should just fill the empty space with NULL. So far, I've come up with this quick query, but I the "dates" from sales to sales2 sometimes are different in each row: SELECT sales.*, sales2.* FROM sales LEFT JOIN sales AS sales2 ON (sales.id_store=sales2.id_store) WHERE sales.date >= '2010-01-01' AND sales.date <= '2010-01-10' AND sales2.date >= '2009-01-01' AND sales2.date <= '2009-01-10' ORDER BY sales.id_store ASC, sales.date ASC, sales2.date ASC What am I missing?

  • php - disconnecting and connecting to multiple databases

    - by Phil Jackson
    Hi, I want to be able to switch from the current db to multiple dbs though a loop: $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `linkedin` ORDER BY id", $CON ) or die( mysql_error() ); if( mysql_num_rows( $query ) != 0 ) { $last_update = time() / 60; while( $rows = mysql_fetch_array( $query ) ) { $contacts_db = "NNJN_" . $rows['email']; // switch to the contacts db mysql_select_db( $contacts_db, $CON ); $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `linkedin` WHERE token = '" . TOKEN . "'", $CON ) or die( mysql_error() ); if( mysql_num_rows( $query ) != 0 ) { mysql_query("UPDATE `linkedin` SET last_update = '{$last_update}' WHERE token = '" . TOKEN . "'", $CON ) or die( mysql_error() ); }else{ mysql_query("INSERT INTO `linkedin` (email, token, username, online, away, last_update) VALUES ('" . EMAIL . "', '" . TOKEN . "', '" . USERNAME . "', 'true', 'false', '$last_update')", $CON ) or die( mysql_error() ); } } mysql_free_result( $query ); } // switch back to your own mysql_select_db( USER_DB, $CON ); It does insert and update details from the other databases but it also inserts and edits data from the current users database which I dont want. Any ideas?

  • Case insensitive duplicates SQL

    - by hdx
    So I have a users table where the user.username has many duplicates like: username and Username and useRnAme john and John and jOhn That was a bug and these three records should have been only one. I'm trying to come up with a SQL query that lists all of these cases ordered by their creation date, so ideally the result should be something like this: username jan01 useRnAme jan02 Username jan03 john feb01 John feb02 jOhn feb03 Any suggestions will be much appreciated

  • How should I go about creating a point system for users like SO and yahoo answers?(PHP)

    - by ggfan
    I am creating a voting system for a Q&A site project in which if a user asks a question, he/she losses -5 points; answer a question +5, vote a question +1, etc. (kind of like SO and yahoo answers) --To create the basic arithmetic, I have a "users_points" table that relates the user_id and their total points. +---+---------+ | 1 | 100 | +---+---------+ | 2 | 54 | +---+---------+ --Basically if the users does certain task, it would + or - the points. How do I prevent users from say voting an answer up 100 times. ex: I want a user to be only able to vote once per question, etc.

  • SQLSTATE[HY093]: Invalid parameter number: mixed named and positional parameters

    - by Gremo
    Weird error and this is driving me crazy all the day. To me it seems a bug because there are no positional parameters in my query. Here is the method: public function getAll(User $user, DateTime $start = null, DateTime $end = null) { $params = array('user_id' => $user->getId()); $rsm = new \Doctrine\ORM\Query\ResultSetMapping(); // Result set mapping $rsm->addScalarResult('subtype', 'subtype'); $rsm->addScalarResult('count', 'count'); $sms_sql = "SELECT CONCAT('sms_', IF(is_auto = 0, 'user' , 'auto')) AS subtype, " . "SUM(messages_count * (customers_count + recipients_count)) AS count " . "FROM outgoing_message AS m INNER JOIN small_text_message AS s ON " . "m.id = s.id WHERE status <> 'pending' AND user_id = :user_id"; $news_sql = "SELECT CONCAT('news_', IF(is_auto = 0, 'user' , 'auto')) AS subtype, " . "SUM(customers_count + recipients_count) AS count " . "FROM outgoing_message AS m JOIN newsletter AS n ON m.id = n.id " . "WHERE status <> 'pending' AND user_id = :user_id"; if($start) : $sms_sql .= " AND sent_at >= :start"; $news_sql .= " AND sent_at >= :start"; $params['start'] = $start->format('Y-m-d'); endif; $sms_sql .= ' GROUP BY type, is_auto'; $news_sql .= ' GROUP BY type, is_auto'; return $this->_em->createNativeQuery("$sms_sql UNION ALL $news_sql", $rsm) >setParameters($params)->getResult(); } And this throws the exception: SQLSTATE[HY093]: Invalid parameter number: mixed named and positional parameters Array $arams is OK and so generated SQL: var_dump($params); array (size=2) 'user_id' => int 1 'start' => string '2012-01-01' (length=10) Strangest thing is that it works with "$sms_sql" only! Any help would make my day, thanks. Update Found another strange thing. If i change only the name (to start_date instead of start): if($start) : $sms_sql .= " AND sent_at >= :start_date"; $news_sql .= " AND sent_at >= :start_date"; $params['start_date'] = $start->format('Y-m-d'); endif; What happens is that Doctrine/PDO says: SQLSTATE[42S22]: Column not found: 1054 Unknown column 'sent1rt_date' in 'where clause' ... as string 1rt was added in the middle of the column name!
