• WPF - Make two controls the same size

  Is there any way to make two controls that are in different containers the same size in WPF? For example, suppose you have two textboxes: textbox1 and textbox2. Textbox1 is in a grid and its size can grow and shrink when the user resizes the window. Textbox2 is in another part of the window and I need it to always have the same size as textbox1. Is there any way to do this? Keep in mind SharedSizeGroup will not work because the textboxes are in different containers. Also, I've tried binding textbox2's height property to textbox1 and that doesn't seem to work either. Finally, I tried catching textbox1's SizeChanged event, but its Height property is always NaN for some reason.

• Locking on an object...

  I often see code like that which is shown here, ie where an object is allocated and then used as a "lock object". It seems to me that you could use any object for this, including the event itself as the lock object. Why allocate a new object that does nothing? My understanding is that calling lock() on an object doesn't actually alter the object itself, nor does it actually lock it from being used, it's simply used as a placeholder for multiple lock statements to anchor on. So my question is, is this really a good thing to do?

• How to update the InnoSetup Wizard GUI status text from PascalScript code

  Hi I execute a lot of custom actions in my InnoSetup script in the CurStepChanged(ssPostInstall) PascalScripting event handler. As these actions take some time to finish, I'd like to update the InnoSetup Wizard GUI status text and tell the user what is going on behind the scenes. Something similar that is possible in the [Run] section using the "StatusMsg" parameter. I know that I could use the TOutputProgressWizardPage/CreateOutputProgressPage(), and I did in a previous project, but it's a bit too much overkill to my liking... Is there a simpler possibility to update the InnoSetup Wizard GUI status text from PascalScripting code with the same effect as the StatusMsg parameter?

• Recording user data for heatmap with javascript

  Hi, I was wondering how sites such as crazyegg.com store user click data during a session. Obviously there is some underlying script which is storing each clicks data, but how is that data then populated into a database? It seems to me the simple solution would be to send data via AJAX but when you consider that it's almost impossible to get a cross browser page unload function setup, I'm wondering if there is perhaps some other more advanced way of getting metric data. I even saw a site which records each mouse movement and I am guessing they are definitely not sending that data to a database on each mouse move event. So, in a nutshell, what kind of technology would I need in order to monitor user activity on my site and then store this information in order to create metric data? I am not looking to recreate GA, I'm just very interested to know how this sort of thing is done. Thanks in advance

• NHibernate's automatic (dirty checking) update behaviour - turning it off

  I've just discovered that if I get an object from an NHibernate session and change a property on object, NHibernate will automatically update the object on commit without me calling Session.Update(myObj)! I can see how this could be helpful, but as default behaviour it seems crazy! How can I stop this happening? Is this default NHib behaviour or something coming from Fluent NHibs AutoPersistenceModel? If there's no way to stop this, what do I do? Unless I'm missing the point this behaviour seems to create a right mess, violating my UoW. Im using NHibernate 2.0.1.4 and a Fluent NHib build from 18/3/2009 Edit, is this guy right with his answer? Edit: I've also read that overriding an Event Listener could be a solution to this. However, IDirtyCheckEventListener.OnDirtyCheck isn't called in this situation. Does anyone know which listener I need to override? Thanks Andrew

• Fading in/Fade out text in IE

  I had a problem and whipped up a quick solution: fade-in and fade-out a series of quotations. My solution works just as I want it in every browser except any of the IEs. The only problem with the IEs is that the text does not fade in and fade out; the text simply pops into existence. I believe I've run into a similar problem before when trying to dynamically change the filter:alpha(opacity=xx) of an element.   I try to configure log4j.xml in such a way that file will be rolled upon file size, and the rolled file's name will be i.e: "C:/temp/test/test_log4j-%d{yyyy-MM-dd-HH_mm_ss}.log" I followed this discussion: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/NUYyjJipzkDOS3reRiMz Finally it worked for me only when I add: try { Thread.sleep(1); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } to the method: public boolean isTriggeringEvent(Appender appender, LoggingEvent event, String filename, long fileLength) which make it works. The question is if there is a better way to make it work? since this method call many times and slow my program. • C# WCF client configuration for X509 secured web service over https

  Hi guys I been pulling my hair out for the past few days trying to connect to a web service using .Net 3.5 and WCF (have also tried using WSE 3.0) without much luck. The web service is hosted by a 3rd party and we can access via https. They also make use of X509 certificates for security, to sign the message. I've been given some basic info and am able to connect and test the service using SOAP UI 3.5 without any problems, so we know that this is not the issue. Just trying to get it done in code! I've added the X509 certificate into the certificate store using the mmc snap-in, and using tracing and logging i can see that the message is being signed, just unable to see which part i have got wrong. Any healp GREATLY appreciated :) I've been given an offline WSDL file, which I have imported in as a service reference is VS 2008.   I know how to get the scrollTop of a page, I use this simple JS function (code copied around): function GetScrolledTop() { //I never work in IE quirkmode, I always use DOCTYPE as 1st line, so I don't need to test for document.body.scrollTop return self['pageYOffset'] || document.documentElement.scrollTop; } This works and my problem is the following: I tried to add it in the page onload event <body onload="alert(GetScrolledTop());"> On page load I get ZERO (which make sense), but the problem is that I get ZERO even if I scroll the page and then reload it without touching the scrollbar. It seems like the browser does: loads page calls my GetScrolledTop() (so obviously shows ZERO) then scrolls the page to where it was before. Do you know how to get the scolledTop after the step 3? I mean how to get the scrolledTop AFTER the browser scrolled the page? (maybe without using a timer) Thanks!

  Is there a way with the Facebook Graph API to get a list of all events created by a single profile? Our client creates a bunch of events and we want to pull a list of them all. I said that they would just have to make sure they set themselves to be attending the event, because then I can easily pull the list of events that profileId is attending, but I'm curious if there's another way. Maybe an FQL query? They look to require a query on the primary key though. And what would that FQL query look like if that's the way to do it??

  I'm making a simple iframe-based facebook app. I have the following code to size my iframe: FB_RequireFeatures(["Connect"], function(){ FB.XdComm.Server.init('/xd_receiver.htm'); FB.CanvasClient.startTimerToSizeToContent(); FB.CanvasClient.syncUrl(); }); I want to add a link that will display a popup which will allow the user to post an app-defined image/link to the user's wall. To get things working initially, I tried just using the following code on a click event: FB.Connect.streamPublish(''); However, nothing happens. I've tried adding: FB.init(<?=API_KEY?>, '/xd_receiver.htm'); both inside the FB_RequireFeatures function, before it, after it... no luck. Nothing happens. No errors are thrown. Nothing. Any ideas?

  In my app, I need to set a variable for a start time to be 9:00 a.m. local, wherever the user is located. I have a timezone variable for each user and the save and retrieve are all working. But I need to set a variable when I create a new event to be 9:00 am in the user's local time zone. My current method uses the local time of the server, then makes the adjustments for the individual user's time zone. I don't know what I don't know - is there a command to create the value for "Today's date at 9:00 am where you are"? My current code is: t = Time.now.to_date.beginning_of_day + 11.hours (forcing the 2 hour offset between my primary user and the server in a different timezone).

  The title for this question pretty much sums up what I'm asking. I've got a list of taxonomy terms, and I'm using a view to display the latest post to each one. I'd like to also display a custom field set up in CCK just under this. Currently, I'm just using "date updated" of the taxonomy term itself which was easy to set up in views. I'd like to drill a little deeper and get the custom "event date" field I've added to the content type last posted to the taxonomy term I'm "viewing". I've got a feeling I'm going to have to write my own database query for this. If (I can avoid that){ How do I set up such a view? } Else{ What's the best practice for including lower level database queries alongside views? }

  hi, My client is facing some deadlocks while using our application. I want to track all the deadlocks for my research and to solve the deadlocks. i am currently run the SQL profiler for the event deadlock graph to capture the deadlock scenario. the actual problem is that the SQL server gets restarted every day at 2 am, and the profiler stops capturing the events after the restart. by the time i come to office at start the profiler at say 10 am, there could be deadlocks which i could have missed between 2 am and 10 am. so i am looking for a way so i can capture the deadlocks without me starting manually. i thought i could use TRACEON(1204,-1) so that the deadlock events get captured in the SQL Server error logs. But i found that the TRACE capturing too gets disabled after the restart. Is there a way i can capture the deadlocks either by SQL profiler or by using TRACEON without me manually starting the capturing? Nikhil
