• Selenium not finding LiveValidation text.

  I am using the Selenium IDE to test some of my web development. I am using the JQuery LiveValidation in my code. I have an input box with some javascript behind it that will do a regular expresson and either ouput "OK" or "Error" next to the input text box based on what the user has entered. For some reason when testing with selenium the LiveValidation will not get triggered no matter what I do and therefore I can not test it. When I do it manually it works great. Has anyone run into this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

• Posting null values via AJAX

  Using the jQuery $.post function, if you send a null value, it arrives at the server side as "null". Example: Javascript: $.post('test.php', { foo : null }); PHP: var_dump($_POST['foo']); // string(4) "null" I understand why this is so, but was wondering the best way to work around the limitation? Should you: Loop through all the variables in JS before you send them and replace with an empty string? Interpret "null" as null on the server side? Don't send the variable at all? Something else?

  I'm trying to setup the Jquery plugin SerialScroll with Ariel's added keyboard controls. I'm calling these three JS files: serialScroll.js scrollTo.js keyboard.js (the keyboard control snippet) Html I'm trying to manipulate. Want it to jump from ind-photo to ind-photo on arrow left and right. <div id="photos"> <div class="ind-photo"><img src="2.jpg" /></div> <div class="ind-photo"><img src="3.jpg" /></div> </div> I can't get it to work at all.   hi I have this simple function: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ jQuery(function($){ function here(b){alert(b);} ; here(6); }); //]]> </script> and i have this button on page: <button onclick="here(7);">TEST</button> The alert fires on page load, but not on button click. If i replace the here(7) with alert, it works fine. Why doesnt it work with function though? Alan

• Firebug profiling issue: "no activity to profile"

  I want to try some different options with some javascript (jQuery) to see which is the fastest, however I can't get profiling working properly. If I use console.time the result is 0ms. Anyone know how to fix this?

  I try to prevent the Browser from using the :hover effect of the CSS. $("ul#mainFilter a").hover( function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }, function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }); I tired it with return false; to but it does not work. Does anyone know how to do this? due the answers i give you some more nfo: I have set the a and a:hover styles, in my CSS already. Now if JS is available on the clients machine, i want to overwrite the effect with a smoother one. (using jQuery color plugin) As mentioned by fudgey, a work around would be to set the style (using .css()) but i would have to overwrite every single effect specified in the CSS (see here: http://jsfiddle.net/raPeX/1/ ). I am looking for a generic solution.

• Pre-load audio files at the client-side for later use

  I'm building an online test which implements audio (mp3) using the native audio player (i.e. non Flash-based). The test shows one question at a time and loads each subsequent question asynchronously. Some questions have an accompanying audio file, others don't, and the audio files can be several MB in size. So what I'm hoping to do is to preload the audio files client-side at the start of the test and then move these into place when the relevant question comes up. So far I've tried loading an audio file into a QuickTime player, then when that question comes up I use jQuery's clone(true) method to copy this into a part of the page which is displayed. However, when I do this the QuickTime player has to reload the audio file from source. Same is true for Windows Media Player. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can preload the audio client-side and then call it forward when needed?

  We are writing an ASP.NET MVC application. By default, if the client browser has Javascript, the handler for every form on the page is set, by Javascript, to be one that sends the submission down an Ajax "pipe" (progressive enhancement). But, for one form (on a page of several), I'd like this handler to be bypassed/ignored. Is there a simple way to do this? Perhaps by overriding the handler by specifying my own onsubmit event directly in the DOM - or some other method? We use jQuery, so those libraries are available to me.

  I have been working on the mobile version of my rails application.I am using the approach of using the same controller and rendering a mobile view when the request is from a mobile device. I am using jquery mobile in mobile views. For mobile views I did not use any layout for the views because it is the same as loading the required files in each view. In this approach, Every request essentially loads all of the required js,css files which i feel is making the mobile site to load slowly.   I am making an ASP.NET MVC application that lets a user design a questionnaire that other users can fill out. Now, questionnaires, rather than just having a list of questions, often have sections or subsections that could have headings and not the other columns that an ordinary row (a question) would have. I want a JS Grid that can handle sections and subsections elegantly. I tried using JQGrid, but there the options I have are limited to a "Grid as Subgrid" structure. The appearance becomes quite complex and unlike a questionnaire. Is there a Javascript Grid or a JQuery plugin that can handle this? I can write my own HTML table as long as the JS app will format the table and will add some user-friendliness to the table.

I use $('#output').text($('#container').html()); But IE6 outputs all the code in uppercase: <TABLE> <TR> <TD>test</TD> </TR> </TABLE> How can I convert HTML tags to lowercase using jQuery? Would be useful to have a plugin that could recursively go trough the DOM-tree.

I got the tip that I could us the "after" function in that plugin to make changes to the picture each time the image is refreshed.   All, I have a PHP website written in Zend Framework and MVC. Most of the controller actions check if the request is an Ajax request or not, else they redirect the user to home page. I am thinking about various ways to break that site. I am considering the following scenario: A user creates his own PHP project on his Local machine. User writes a JQuery ajax post request to one of the controllers on my site and tries to post malicious info. Ex: $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: "https://marketsite/getinfo/getstuff", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(html_response){ alert(html_response); }, error: function(xhr,ajaxOptions,errorThrown){ alert(errorThrown); } }); My Question is does "url" attribute in the ajax request above take absolute path? I know it takes relative path. Also, is it possible to break any site by sending such requests? Thanks

• Change the colors of JvectorMap when there are 2 maps on the page

  i am using Jvectormap to place 2 maps on my page. the maps are placed normally and everything is fine. they are placed in 2 different divs: <div id="map1"> </div> <div id="map2"> </div> and the Jquery: $(function () { $('#map1').vectorMap({ color: '#aaaaaa', backgroundColor: '#ffffff', hoverOpacity: 1, hoverColor: true }); }); $(function () { $('#map2').vectorMap({ color: '#aaaaaa', backgroundColor: '#ffffff', hoverOpacity: 1, }); }); Now when I try to change the colors of map2 dynamically using: $("#map2").vectorMap("set", "colors", colorsDictionnary); The colors of the first one only is changed. and this happens only when changing colors. Always the first one have it's colors changed even if I am using $("#map2") How can change the colors of the map2 without touching map1? Thank you very much for any help, I really need it

• Does Google crawl AJAX content?

  On the home page of my site I use JQuery's ajax function to pull down a list of recent activity of users. The recent activity is displayed on the page, and each line of the recent activity includes a link to the user profile of the user who did the activity. Will Google actually make the ajax call to pull down this info and use it in calculating page relevancy / link juice flow? I'm hoping that it does not because the user profile pages are not very Google index worthy, and I don't want all those links to the User profile pages diluting my home page's link juice flow away from other more important links.

  With jQuery 1.4.2, I can't figure out how to combine has() with :gt. I'd like to select any ul which contains more than 3 lis, so here's what I've tried: $(document).ready(function(){ $("ul.collapse:has(li:gt(2))") .each( function() { $(this).css("border", "solid red 1px"); }); }); This does work with the 1.2.6 jQuery library, but not 1.3.2 or 1.4.2. • Compare TinyMCE and CKeditor for a Wiki

  For a custom wiki django-wakawaka, i want to be able to add a WYSIWYG support. TinyMCE is obviously the most popular plugin, used even by Wordpress. But CK-editor seems more feature full. Those who have used either of these or both, which is better and why. Are there some better packages, that I am missing? Is there something that I am missing when I conclude CKeditor is better, by going through them (because it is not as widely used). I want to use it with django and jquery, with multiple instances of WYSIWYG widget per page. Does one offer advantage over the other.

  I've been messing around with jQuery plugin code and I'm trying to put all of my common variables into a single object for easy access. I have included a few examples below on how I've done this, but I'm wondering how others deal with this problem. • creating a custom upload progress bar

  hi, i have seen all the upload progress bar plugins , widgets, etc. they all suck. their either too bulky with too much useless code or they dont work. what i want to know is where can i read up on how to display an easy upload progress indicator. most browsers have a status progress bar on them below but it isnt very professional to use just that when dealing with clients. how does the browser do it? i want to know the internals of how the browser work with indication a status of something uploading and maybe i can make something using php & jquery. thanks
