• Java HashSet is allowing dupes; problem with comparable?

  Hi, all. I've got a class, "Accumulator", that implements the Comparable compareTo method, and I'm trying to put these objects into a HashSet. When I add() to the HashSet, I don't see any activity in my compareTo method in the debugger, regardless of where I set my breakpoints. Additionally, when I'm done with the add()s, I see several duplicates within the Set. What am I screwing up, here; why is it not Comparing, and therefore, allowing the dupes? Thanks, IVR Avenger

• Is Dynamic Casting Possible in Java

  So I have a class of overloaded methods like this: class Foo { public void test(Object value) { ... } public void test(String value) { ... } } I need to pass a property value of a bean to one of these methods depending on its type, but I don't know the actual property type until the runtime. e.g. public void run(Object bean, String propertyName) { Foo foo = new Foo(); foo.test(PropertyUtils.getProperty(bean, propertyName)); } BTW, PropertyUtils.getProperty() is a helper method that returns a value of the specified property on a bean. PropertyUtils.getProperty() returns an Object, so that test(Object value) will be always called and the actual property type will be ignored. I can figure out the propery type in the runtime, even if its value is null. Is there such a thing as dynamic casting in Java? If not, is there a way to have an overloaded method with the correct parameter type called?

• PowerPoint.Application not raising events in C#

  I have a simple application written in C# and .Net 2.0 that displays several PowerPoint 2003 files in a loop. (It is going to be used for a information board in our cafeteria) The application works fine on my development machine but when I deploy it to another machine the events I have registered for SlideShowNextSlide and PresentationClose are never fired. I created a bunch of editable UITableViewCell by embedding an UITextField inside, but I have seen some apps that allows you to scroll the UItableview by scrolling inside an inactive editable cell. How can I do that? And how can I also dismiss the keyboard when tapping somewhere else? I know about the method: - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[event allTouches] anyObject]; if (touch.tapCount == 1) { [self resignFirstResponder]; } else { }} I put it inside my custom table view controller but the method doesn't seem to be called upon a tap, and I don't know if even if it gets called will dismiss the keyboard. • Term for releasing software with time dependant portions still unfinished.

  I remember a while a go on a SO podcast Jeff was talking about the bounty system and he said that they released the bounty offering code before the bounty awarding code was written as the code would not be needed for a couple of weeks. Is there a standard term for this? Agile can work in this way but it doesn’t have to. I am thinking of suggesting it to a client for something and would like to use the correct terminology along with any information backing it up as a method. Essentially the method is to release code with some functionality incomplete as the time until the incomplete functionality is needed is less that the time it will take to develop.

Since I use a single database connection for the whole application from singleton Database class, if i try concurrent db operations (two users) the database rollsback the transactions.   I have a struts2 action with an @Secured({"ROLE_ADMIN"}) to secure the execute method. In the execute method i assign a message to a member variable of the action, then return SUCCESS and end up on the jsp page. On the page I retrieve the actions member variable with <sroperty. private String greeting; public String execute() throws Exception { this.greeting="Hello"; return SUCCESS; } // getters and setters for greeting ... <s:property value="greeting" /> The problem is when the secured annotation is present the jsp shows nothing for the member variable but when @Secured is removed the whole thing behaves properly and shows the message that was set into the member variable. It appears that the actual security is working ok but when enabled via the annotation the member variable (or maybe the instance of the action) is not making its way onto the value stack. I cant see any error messages.

• What's the best way to cancel an asynchronous WCF request?

  (Assuming a WCF method called "MyFunction") Currently, to support canceling a WCF request, I'm using the BeginMyFunction/EndMyFunction methods generated by svcutil (and handling an isCanceled flag when dispatching the results to the main thread). I'd like to use the MyFunctionAsync method (and hooking into MyFunctionAsyncCompleted event instead) for async calls instead of Begin/End. What is the best/supported way to handle canceling WCF requests if using MyFunctionAsyncCompleted, and still ensuring that the event doesn't get fired on a page that's no longer loaded (i.e. page navigation within a frame). But general - it doesn't add a separator after the last element! I uses it for ASP.NET coding for separating with "<br />" or Environment.NewLine.   I'm building an android application, which has a list view, and in the list view, a click listener, containing an onItemClick method. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: super because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class? Thank you.

  I'm interested in learning more about design practices in PHP for Database Abstraction & Factory methods. For background, my site is a common-interest social networking community currently in beta mode. Currently, I've started moving my old code for object retrieval to factory methods. However, I do feel like I'm limiting myself by keeping a lot of SQL table names and structure separated in each function/method. Questions: Is there a reason to use PEAR (or similar) if I dont anticipate switching databases? Can PEAR interface with the MySqli prepared statements I currently use? Will it help me separate table names from each method? (If no, what other design patterns might I want to research?) Will it slow down my site once I have a significantly large member base?

• Error using MVCContrib TestHelper

  While trying to implement the second answer to a previous question, I am receiving an error. I have implemented the methods just as the post shows, and the first three work properly. The fourth one (HomeController_Delete_Action_Handler_Should_Redirect_If_Model_Successfully_Delete) gives this error: Could not find a parameter named 'controller' in the result's Values collection. If I change the code to: actual .AssertActionRedirect() .ToAction("Index"); it works properly, but I don't like the "magic string" in there and prefer to use the lambda method that the other poster used. My controller method looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What am I doing wrong?

  On the iPhone, I would like to do some operations on an image in a separate thread. Rather than dealing with semiphores, locking, etc., I'd like to use the 'One Object, One Thread' method of safely writing this concurrent operation. I'm not sure what is the correct way to copy my object into a new thread so that the object is not accessed in the main thread. Do I use the 'copy' method?   I have understand that the only way to inject KeyEvents in the Android System is to implement an Input Method. I have created my IME with the purpose to control from remote the device. I emulate the hardware keys using the method private void keyDownUp(int keyEventCode) { getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN, keyEventCode)); getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_UP, keyEventCode)); } in my class that extends InputMethodService. It works fine until an AlertDialog, or the menu of a Spinner comes in foreground. Also the windows that appears when the Menu key is problematic. My IME can't get focus on them, and the keyevents are sent to the activity behind them. Using hardware keys, the Dialog get the focus and you can select the botton on the Dialog. How can i emulate that, using the IME(or anything else)?

  Hi, I need a very fast method to detect if an image is empty. Im my case then all pixels are white and transparant. The images are png's. My current method is to load them in a memory bitmap and check each pixel value, but this is way to slow. Is there a more efficient way? This is my current code: 'Lock the bitmap bits. • Design issue with ATG CommercePipelineManager

  The definition of runProcess() method in PipelineManager is public PipelineResult runProcess(String pChainId, Object pParam) throws RunProcessException This gives me an impression that ANY object can be passed as the second param. However, ATG OOTB has PipelineManager component referring to CommercePipelineManager class which overrides the runProcess() method and downcast pParam to map and adds siteId to it. Basically, this enforces the client code to send only Map. Thus, if one needs to create a new pipeline chain, has to use map as data structure to pass on the data. Offcourse, one can always get around this by creating a new PipelineManager component, but I was just wondering the thought behind explicitly using map in CommercePipelineManager

• Using javascript to call controller methond in mvc

  Im trying to make a table row work as a link to another view in my mvc website. Instead of using the standard "Details" link provided by the auto generated table list, I would like to use the table row as a link to the "Details" view instead. So somehow I need to make the row work as a link. Each rom has a unique id that I need to pass on to the controller method. I have tried different solutions but noting happens when I press on the table row...
