  • Equivalent to Android's Toast or Mac OSX Growl in Java Swing?

    Hi all, Looking for a means of displaying transient, non-modal dialogs in a Swing application. In other words, I'd like to pop up a semi-transparent box with some text in it that can be immediately dismissed, or will fade away in a set amount of time. Is there a library to do this?   • How to indefinitely pause a thread in Java and later resume it?

    Maybe this question has been asked many times before, but I never found a satisfying answer. The problem: I have to simulate a process scheduler, using the round robin strategy. I'm using threads to simulate processes and multiprogramming; everything works fine with the JVM managing the threads. But the thing is that now I want to have control of all the threads so that I can run each thread alone by a certain quantum (or time), just like real OS processes schedulers. What I'm thinking to do: I want have a list of all threads, as I iterate the list I want to execute each thread for their corresponding quantum, but as soon the time's up I want to pause that thread indefinitely until all threads in the list are executed and then when I reach the same thread again resume it and so on. The question: So is their a way, without using deprecated methods stop(), suspend(), or resume(), to have this control over threads?

  • Spring-MVC Problem using @Controller on controller implementing an interface

    I'm using spring 2.5 and annotations to configure my spring-mvc web context. Unfortunately, I am unable to get the following to work. I'm not sure if this is a bug (seems like it) or if there is a basic misunderstanding on how the annotations and interface implementation subclassing works. For example, @Controller @RequestMapping("url-mapping-here") public class Foo { @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.GET) public void showForm() { ... } @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.POST) public String processForm() { ... } } works fine. When the context starts up, the urls this handler deals with are discovered, and everything works great. This however does not: @Controller @RequestMapping("url-mapping-here") public class Foo implements Bar { @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.GET) public void showForm() { ... } @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.POST) public String processForm() { ... } } When I try to pull up the url, I get the following nasty stack trace: javax.servlet.ServletException: No adapter for handler [com.shaneleopard.web.controller.RegistrationController@e973e3]: Does your handler implement a supported interface like Controller? org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.getHandlerAdapter(DispatcherServlet.java:1091) org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.doDispatch(DispatcherServlet.java:874) org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.doService(DispatcherServlet.java:809) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.processRequest(FrameworkServlet.java:571) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.doGet(FrameworkServlet.java:501) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:627) However, if I change Bar to be an abstract superclass and have Foo extend it, then it works again. @Controller @RequestMapping("url-mapping-here") public class Foo extends Bar { @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.GET) public void showForm() { ... } @RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.POST) public String processForm() { ... } } This seems like a bug. The @Controller annotation should be sufficient to mark this as a controller, and I should be able to implement one or more interfaces in my controller without having to do anything else. Any ideas?

  • Dealing with ArrayLists in java...all members of the arraylist updating themselves?

    I have a function that shrinks the size of a "Food bank" (represented by a rectangle in my GUI) once some of the food has been taken. I have the following function check for this: public boolean tryToPickUpFood(Ant a) { int xCoord = a.getLocation().x; int yCoord = a.getLocation().y; for (int i = 0; i < foodPiles.size(); i++) { if (foodPiles.get(i).containsPoint(xCoord, yCoord)) { foodPiles.get(i).decreaseFood(); return true; } } return false; } Where decreaseFood shrinks the rectangle.. public void decreaseFood() { foodAmount -= 1; shrinkPile(); } private void shrinkPile() { WIDTH -=1; HEIGHT = WIDTH; } However, whenever one rectangle shrinks, ALL of the rectangles shrink. Why would this be?

    I have a situation where I need to find out how many times an int goes into a decimal, but in certain cases, I'm losing precision. Here is the method: public int test(double decimalAmount, int divisor) { return (int) (decimalAmount/ (1d / divisor)); } The problem with this is if I pass in 1.2 as the decimal amount and 5 as the divisor, I get 5 instead of 6. How can I restrusture this so I know how many times 5 goes into the decimal amount as an int?

I use staic library project added to app project as direct dependency (target - general - direct dependecies) and all works OK, but categories. A category defined in static library is not working in app. So my question is how to add static library with some categories into other project? And in general, what is best practice to use in app project code from other projects?

  • A simple free MIDI implementation in Java besides javax.sound.midi: Are there any?

    The problem is: Android doesn't implement javax.sound.midi. I need a simple free library that allows me to create simple 1-track midi files. I searched the net for it, but can't really find anything, since everything uses javax.sound.midi . The license needs to be one where I don't need to opensource my linked app. Any ideas? I also looked into the fileformat itself. However, I am totally not familiar with working with bytes, hexidecimal stuff etc. So, other option is: are there any simple midi implementations that I can use as reference?

    (Solution Note, I'll answer immediately) Many people including me trying to make a kind of Static Library framework for iOS to archive some kind of modularity. Framework is best way to do this, but it doesn't provided by Apple, and workarounds don't work well. https://github.com/kstenerud/iOS-Universal-Framework/tree/master/Fake%20Framework/Templates Fake framework cannot be referenced from linking tab in Build Phases. Real framework needs modification of system setting. And still not work smoothly on every parts. Problem is static library need header files, and it's impossible to reference header files on project at another location on different project without some script. And script breaks IDE's file management abstraction. How can I use static library project like a convenient module manner? (just dragging project into another project to complete embedding)

However what I would like to know is if it is possible to share this connection pool with other J2SE apps?   • Exposing headers on iPhone static library

    Hello guys, I've followed this tutorial for setting up a static library with common classes from 3 projects we are working on. It's pretty simple, create a new static library project on xcode, add the code there, a change some headers role from project to public. The tutorial says I should add my library folder to the header search paths recursively. Is this the right way to go? I mean, on my library project, I have files separated in folders like Global/, InfoScreen/, Additions/. I was trying to setup one LOKit.h file on the root folder, and inside that file #import everything I need to expose. So on my host project I don't need to add the folder recursively to the header search path, and would just #import "LOKit.h". But I couldn't get this to work, the host project won't build complaining about all the classes I didn't add to LOKit.h, even though the library project builds. So, my question is, what is the right way of exposing header files when I setup a Cocoa Touch Static Library project on xCode?

Assume the constructor doesn't do anything funny with the input, and the variables stored in both objects are identical.     I am at a point where I need to take the decision on what to do when caching of objects reaches the configured threshold. Should I store the objects in a indexed file (like provided by JCS) and read them from the file (file IO) when required or have the object stored in a distributed cache (network, serialization, deserialization) We are using Solaris as OS. ============================ Adding some more information. I have this question so as to determine if I can switch to distributed caching. The remote server which will have cache will have more memory and better disk and this remote server will only be used for caching. One of the problems we cannot increase the locally cached objects is , it stores the cached objects in JVM heap which has limited memory(using 32bit JVM). ======================================================================== Thanks, we finally ended up choosing Coherence as our Cache product. This provides many cache configuration topologies, in process vs remote vs disk ..etc.
