• Delphi: Error when starting MCI

  I use the TMediaPlayer component for playing music. It works fine with most of my tracks. But it doesn't work with some tracks. When I want to play them, the following error message is shown: Which is German but roughly means that: In the project pMusicPlayer.exe an exception of the class EMCIDeviceError occurred. Message: "Error when starting MCI.". Process was stopped. Continue with "Single Command/Statement" or "Start". The program quits directly after calling the procedure "Play" of TMediaPlayer. This error occurred with the following file for example: file size: 7.40 MB duration: 4:02 minutes bitrate: 256 kBit/s I've encoded this file with a bitrate of 128 kBit/s and thus a file size of 3.70 MB: It works fine! What's wrong with the first file? Windows Media Player or other programs can play it without any problems. Is it possible that Delphi's TMediaPlayer cannot handle big files (e.g. 5 MB) or files with a high bitrate (e.g. 128 kBit/s)? What can I do to solve the problem?

• OpenGL Calls Lock/Freeze

  I am using some dell workstations(running WinXP Pro SP 2 & DeepFreeze) for development, but something was recenlty loaded onto these machines that prevents any opengl call(the call locks) from completing(and I know the code works as I have tested it on 'clean' machines, I also tested with simple opengl apps generated by dev-cpp, which will also lock on the dell machines). Update: After some more fiddling, I have discovered a few more kernal hooks, a lot of them are used to nullify data returned by system information calls(such as the remote debugging port), I also managed to find out the what ever is doing this is using madchook.dll(by madshi) to do this, this dll is also injected into every running process(these seem to be some anti debugging code). Also, on the OpenGL side, it seems Direct X is fine/unaffected(I ran one of the DX 9 demo's without problems), so could one of these kernal hooks somehow affect OpenGL?

  Dear Gurus. Note Pls do not tell me regarding alternative to custom session, Pls answer only relative to the Pattern Scenario I have Done Custom Session Management in my application(WCF Service) for this I have a Dictionary shared to all thread. When a specific function Gets called I add a New Session and Issue SessionId to the client so it can use that sessionId for rest of his calls until it calls another specific function, which terminates this session and removes the session from the Dictionary. Due to any reason Client may not call session terminator function so i have to implement time expiration logic so that i can remove all such sessions from the memory. For this I added a Timer Object which calls ClearExpiredSessions function after the specific period of time. which iterates on the dictionary. Problem: As this dictionary gets modified every time new client comes and leaves so i can't lock the whole dictionary while iterating over it. And if i do not lock the dictionary while iteration, if dictionary gets modified from other thread while iterating, Enumerator will throw exception on MoveNext(). So can anybody tell me what kind of Design i should follow in this case. Is there any standard pattern available.

I tried to use nusoap on PHP5. I have some problems with charset and Content-Type. Visual Studio gives this error : The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'https://www.xxx.yy'. There is a problem with the XML that was received from the network. See inner exception for more details. The encoding in the declaration 'ISO-8859-1' does not match the encoding of the document 'utf-8'. What is wrong with my code?

• Java ternary operator and boxing Integer/int?

  I tripped across a really strange NullPointerException the other day caused by an unexpected type-cast in the ternary operator. Given this (useless exemplary) function: Integer getNumber() { return null; } I was expecting the following two code segments to be exactly identical after compilation: Integer number; if (condition) { number = getNumber(); } else { number = 0; } vs. Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; . Turns out, if condition is true, the if-statement works fine, while the ternary opration in the second code segment throws a NullPointerException. It seems as though the ternary operation has decided to type-cast both choices to int before auto-boxing the result back into an Integer!?! In fact, if I explicitly cast the 0 to Integer, the exception goes away. In other words: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; is not the same as: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : (Integer) 0; . So, it seems that there is a byte-code difference between the ternary operator and an equivalent if-else-statement (something I didn't expect). Which raises three questions: Why is there a difference? Is this a bug in the ternary implementation or is there a reason for the type cast? Given there is a difference, is the ternary operation more or less performant than an equivalent if-statement (I know, the difference can't be huge, but still)?

(This is to use in a PDF conversion component) But this code errors out continually but not in the browser. I get timeout errors sometimes asn 500 errors. • Dataset bind to Gridview within WCF REST retrieval method and Linq to Sql

  I used a WCF REST template to build a WCF service library to create PUT and GET calls. PUT method works fine sending my blob to a database. On the GET, I want to be able to access the web service directly and display the results from a stored procedure as a dataset and bind this to a gridview. The stored procedure is a simple select statement, returning three of the four columns from the table. • Can I use a keyPath in a predicate?

  For some reason, this didn't work (although the keypath does exist): NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"department.departmentName == %@", departmentName]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *fetchError = nil; NSUInteger count = [moc countForFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&fetchError]; // execution simply stops at this line, with no error or console log Execution just stops at the last line above when asking for the count. I don't get an console log. Also I don't get any kind of exception. The execution just stops. There are no objects in the persistent store yet. So maybe it crashes because of it tries to follow a keypath in a nonexisting object? Does that make sense? The line where GDB stops is this: 0x002a31cb <+0459> test %eax,%eax Previously to that, I see a lot of NSSQLAdapter... calls in the stack trace. There's definitely something wrong. Well, but when I set the Entity to the destination of the key path and then just do something like NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"departmentName == %@", departmentName]; then there is no problem and count simply is 0.

• User control loosing its contents when loaded programatically

  I have a usercontrol which contains 2 repeaters and the code to populate them with data. If i manually insert this into the page then it works correctly, the repeaters populate etc. If I load it programatically using this method; 1) add class name to user control ClassName="ContentModule" 2) reference this in the default.aspx <%@ Reference Control="~/modules/content.ascx" %> 3) Add the code to my codebehind page_load to do the loading; Private loadmodule As ASP.ContentModule Try If themodule = "content" Then loadmodule = CType(LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx"), ASP.ContentModule) Modulecontainer.Controls.Add(loadmodule) End If Catch ex As Exception Response.Write(ex.ToString & "<br />") End Try Nothing from within the usercontrol is loaded to the page. Although if I add some static text i.e "TEST" to the top of the usercontrol this is displayed ok on the default.aspx page. This makes me think that the control is loaded ok, but there is something in the way I have loaded it that is causing the contents to not properly execute. Very frustrating this one! Any help greatly appreciated!

  Why is it considered bad practice to lock non-static fields? And, if I am not locking non-static fields, then how do I lock an instance method without locking the method on all other instances of the same or derived class?   Given a date range how to calculate the number of weekends partially or wholly within that range? (A few definitions as requested: take 'weekend' to mean Saturday and Sunday. The date range is inclusive i.e. the end date is part of the range 'wholly or partially' means that any part of the weekend falling within the date range means the whole weekend is counted.) To simplify I imagine you only actually need to know the duration and what day of the week the initial day is... I darn well now it's going to involve doing integer division by 7 and some logic to add 1 depending on the remainder but I can't quite work out what... extra points for answers in Python ;-) Edit Here's my final code. Weekends are Friday and Saturday (as we are counting nights stayed) and days are 0-indexed starting from Monday. I used onebyone's algorithm and Tom's code layout. • Cast object to interface when created via reflection

  I'm trying some stuff out in Android and I'm stuck at when trying to cast a class in another .apk to my interface. I have the interface and various classes in other .apks that implement that interface. I find the other classes using PackageManager's query methods and use Application#createPackageContext() to get the classloader for that context. I then load the class, create a new instance and try to cast it to my interface, which I know it definitely implements. When I try to cast, it throws a class cast exception. I tried various things like loading the interface first, using Class#asSubclass, etc, none of which work. Class#getInterfaces() shows the interface is implemented. • Events still not showing up despite the many tries...sigh

  I have tried the recommendation from this forum and through the many google searches...but i still can't get the events to show up on my calendar via jsp....i tried with php and it worked...sigh...i wonder where is the error....sigh....   I have a facade in a library that exposes some complex functionality through a simple interface. My question is how do I do dependency injection for the internal types used in the facade. Let's say my C# library code looks like - public class XYZfacade:IFacade { [Dependency] internal IType1 type1 { get; set; } [Dependency] internal IType2 type2 { get; set; } public string SomeFunction() { return type1.someString(); } } internal class TypeA { .... } internal class TypeB { .... } And my website code is like - IUnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType<IType1, TypeA>(); container.RegisterType<IType2, TypeB>(); container.RegisterType<IFacade, XYZFacade>(); ... ... IFacade facade = container.Resolve<IFacade>(); Here facade.SomeFunction() throws an exception because facade.type1 and facade.type2 are null. Any help is appreciated.

First, at the two lines where the NSArray lines is used, this message is printed to the console- *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSCFDictionary count]: method sent to an uninitialized mutable dictionary object' which is strange since lines is definitely not an NSMutableDictionary, definitely is initialized, and because the app doesn't crash. Also, at random points in the loop, all of the variables that the debugger can see will become Invalid. Local variables, property variables, everything. Then after a couple lines they will go back to their original values. setObject:forKey never has an effect on res.locationCoords, which is an NSMutableDictionary. I'm sure that res, res.locationCoords, and byId are initialized. I also tried adding a retain or copy to lines, same thing. I'm sure there's a basic memory management principle I'm missing here but I'm at a loss.
