• xen 4.1 host priodically dropping network packets of domU

  I have xen 4.1 Host running on a ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server with ip 153.x.x.54. I have setup 2 VMs on it, namely, "dev.mydomain.com" and "web.mydomain.com" with ips 195.X.X.2 and 195.x.x.3 respectively. For network the VMs connect through xendbr0 (xen-bridge), and can accces the network properly. I can also login to the VMs with ssh with no issue. However when I ping any of the VMs, there is a high amount of periodic packet drop. If I the ping the xen host (dom0) there is no packet drop. Following is a output of "tcpdump | grep ICMP" on dOM0 while I was pinging one of the domU tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type • msbuild TransformWebConfig task - doesn't work for App.configs?

  I have a windows service that will need to have the same kind of transformations that the web.configs would use, but VS 2010 doesn't seem to support that. I've tried manually adding the App.Release.Config files, and then using msbuil [PROJ] /T:TransformWebConfig /p:Configuration=Release but no transformation is performed. I got a TransformWebConfig folder createed in my obj subdirectory, but that's it. Is this thing hardcoded to only work with web.configs?

• What would cause ANY .NET application to crash immediately... except a project I create and Debug in

  My software recently got deployed to a customer who said that the application was crashing immediately after it started. After some initial debugging, the customer provided me remote access to one of the computers which was unable to run the application. I found that the crash wasn't specific to my application. Any application which depended on the .NET framework crashed immediately. Conveniently, Visual Studio 2008 was installed so I created a quick hello world application on it and clicked Debug. The application worked fine. But, then when I tried to execute the generated binaries in the /bin/Debug/HelloWorld.exe directory outside of visual studio it crashed. List of things i've tried (UPDATED): I checked that "Everyone" has Read&Execute permissions for c:\Windows. To test that the problem was with the .NET Framework (and not my application), I attempted to download Paint .NET on to the computers. The setup frontend crashed in the same manner. Performed a repair of the .NET framework as outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 (Boy was this fun and time consuming). No luck. Installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (before it just had .NET 3.5) Note: my application targets 2.0 so I did this more as a long shot... but i learned in the process that .NET 3.5 SP1 also updates the underlying frameworks. Ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Setup Verification Tool. This tool indicated that .NET was successfully installed. (I forget if i checked all the versions but at least 2.0 worked). Tested some mini hello world applications which were targeted for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 and both crashed in the same way. Tried launching .NET apps via windbg cmd line. Doing this did allow me invoke my simple hello world applications. So, simple .NET hello world works when invoked by windbg or by launching via debug in visual studio... but doesn't if i try to execute it standalone. I created a dump file using WinDbg. It wasn't all that revealing to me. • Installing WindowsAuthentication breaks authentication / web.config?

  I have a clean Windows 2008 R2 box (on a VM) and have installed IIS 7.5 with default options. I then copied a website to it (from Windows 7, IIS 7) and after a little tweaking the website is working fine. The website is currently using and working with Anonymous Authentication. I have gone back to the Windows Components/Sever Manager, Roles - Security and ticked and installed Windows Authentication. When I check my server in IIS (top level above sites) - Authentication, I see Anonymous Authentication (enabled) ASP.NET Impersonation (disabled) Forms Authentication (disbaled) Windows Authentication (enabled) When I check my default website - Authentication, I see as above but "Retrieving status" and an error dialog saying There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Filename c:\inetpub\wwwroot\screwturnwiki\web.config Line number: 96 Error: This configuration section cannot be used in this path. This happens when the section is being locked at the parent level. Locking is either by default (overriderModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicity by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="False". I have tried hand editing the web.config with no success. (How to use locking in IIS7 Configuration) UN-installing Windows Authentication happily returns my site to working with Anonymous Authentication, and allows me to enable/disable these three options. FYI. I am using ScrewTurnWiki with the Active Directory plug in.   I have an ASP.NET site that uses its own set of HTTP handlers and does not need any modules. So, in IIS6, all I had to do was this in my web.config: <httpModules> <clear /> </httpModules> However, if I try to do the same in the system.webServer area for IIS7, I get a 500 error when I try to view the site, and in IIS manager when I try to view the handler mappings, I get a popup box with the message: There was an error while performing this operation Details: Filename: \?\C:\Sites\TheWebSiteGoesHere\web.config Line number: 39 Error: Lock violation Line 39 is where the <clear /> element is. Some googling led me to a solution involving running this command: %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe unlock config -section:system.webServer/modules ...but that did not solve the problem.

• Invalid or expired security context token in WCF web service

  All, I have a WCF web service (let's called service "B") hosted under IIS using a service account (VM, Windows 2003 SP2). The service exposes an endpoint that use WSHttpBinding with the default values except for maxReceivedMessageSize, maxBufferPoolSize, maxBufferSize and some of the time outs that have been increased. The web service has been load tested using Visual Studio Load Test framework with around 800 concurrent users and successfully passed all tests with no exceptions being thrown. The proxy in the unit test has been created from configuration. There is a sharepoint application that use the Office Sharepoint Server Search service to call web services "A" and "B". The application will get data from service "A" to create a request that will be sent to service "B". The response coming from service "B" is indexed for search. The proxy is created programmatically using the ChannelFactory. When service "A" takes less than 10 minutes, the calls to service "B" are successfull. But when service "A" takes more time (~20 minutes) the calls to service "B" throw the following exception: Exception Message: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail Inner Exception Message: The message could not be processed. This is most likely because the action 'namespace/OperationName' is incorrect or because the message contains an invalid or expired security context token or because there is a mismatch between bindings. The security context token would be invalid if the service aborted the channel due to inactivity. To prevent the service from aborting idle sessions prematurely increase the Receive timeout on the service endpoint's binding. The binding settings are the same, the time in both client server and web service server are synchronize with the Windows Time service, same time zone. When i look at the server where web service "B" is hosted i can see the following security errors being logged: Source: Security Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 537 User NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Logon Failure: Reason: An error occurred during logon Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: Kerberos Authentication Package: Kerberos Status code: 0xC000006D Substatus code: 0xC0000133 After reading some of the blogs online, the Status code means STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE and the substatus code means STATUS_TIME_DIFFERENCE_AT_DC. but i already checked both server and client clocks and they are syncronized. I also noticed that the security token seems to be cached somewhere in the client server because they have another process that calls the web service "B" using the same service account and successfully gets data the first time is called. Then they start the proccess to update the office sharepoint server search service indexes and it fails. Then if they called the first proccess again it will fail too. Has anyone experienced this type of problems or have any ideas? Regards, --Damian

  Hi We use Kentico CMS and I've exchanged emails with them about a web garden deployment. We have a single site running on a server with 8 cpu cores. In line with Kentico's advice, we have not altered the application pool web garden setting from the default i.e. it is set to a maximum number of worker processes of 1. Our experience is that the site only uses one of the cpu cores - the others are idling. When I emailed them about this, their response was that the OS/IIS would handle this and use other cores as necessary even though the application pool only has a single worker process. Now, I've a lot of respect for the guys at Kentico, but this doesn't seem right to me? Surely, if we want to use all cores, we need to permit eight worker processes (and implement session state storage in SQL server)? Many thanks Tony

• Compiling program that uses libpcap on Mac OSX using iPhone 3.1.1 SDK for use on iPhone

  Hey SOV users, I have a question that I'm hoping some iPhone Developers may be able to help with. I had a look at statically compiling a binary on my Mac and moving it over to the iPhone for execution. I have managed to get this bit of it working by installing the iPhone 3.1.3 SDK on my Mac and setting the architecture to the iPhone in the gcc line as follows; /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc -I ~/Downloads/libpcap-1.1.1/pcap-compiled/ -arch armv6 -isysroot /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.1.sdk -o test test.c I have managed to successfully compile a "Hello World" C program and executed it on the iPhone with success. e.g. include int main() { printf("Hello, World!\n"); return(0); } This worked a charm. I am also using 'ldid' to sign the application (but only if necessary). Anyways, I have been trying to get a program to compile which uses libpcap (http://www.tcpdump.org/) but with little success. I have downloaded and installed libpcap-1.1.1 on my mac and set the configure --prefix to /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.1.sdk/usr/local and build the application. I then saw that the includes actually reside in Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.1.sdk/usr/includes and so moved the Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.1.sdk/usr/local/include files (which contained only the pcap stuff) to the correct location. I then attempted to compile the test program using; /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc -I /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS3.1.3.sdk/usr/include/ -arch armv6 -isysroot /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.1.sdk -o pcap pcap.c -lpcap This worked a lot better than other tests but produces an error; i.e. ld: library not found for -lcrt1.o collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Do you have any ideas as to how I can do this successfully? I've tried a load of different things but none seem to be successful. Basically, I just want to install (or add) some headers to the existing iPhoneOS SDK for use in compiling programs. Any ideas?   In ASP.net web service if the above isn't specified , what is the response format by default? Also, if my web service below: [WebMethod()] public List<Sample> GenerateSamples(string[][] data) { ResultsFactory f = new ResultsFactory(data); List<Sample> samples = f.GenerateSamples(); return samples; } returns the list of objects, If I change the response format to JSON, I have to change the return type to string, then how do I access objects in my javascript? The way things are now, I can use samples array and access each object and its properties as I normally would in any OOP code, which is very convenient, and everything works no problem, but I just wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything in my set up. I took the basics of combining Jquery's ajax with asp.net from Encosia side, and the response type wasn't mentioned there - I read it on another site and am I not sure how vital it is.

• How can I beta test web Perl modules under Apache/mod_perl on production web server?

  We have a setup where most code, before being promoted to full production, is deployed in BETA mode - meaning, it runs in full production environment (using production database - usually production data; and production web server). We call that stage BETA testing. One of the main requirements is that BETA code promotion to production must be a simple "cp" command from beta to production directory - no code/filename changes. For non-web Perl code, achieving seamless BETA test is quite doable (see details here): Perl programs live in a standard location under production root (/usr/code/scripts) with production perl modules living under the same root (/usr/code/lib/perl) The BETA code has 100% same code paths except under beta root (/usr/code/beta/) A special module manipulates @INC of any script based on whether the script was called from /usr/code/scripts or /usr/code/test/scripts, to include beta libraries for beta scripts. This setup works fine up till we need to beta test our web Perl code (the setup is EmbPerl and Apache/mod_perl). The hang-up is as follows: if both a production Perl module and BETA Perl module have the same name (e.g. /usr/code/lib/perl/MyLib1.pm and /usr/code/beta/lib/perl/MyLib1.pm), then mod_perl will only be able to load ONE of these modules into memory - and there's no way we are aware of for a particular web page to affect which version of the module is currently loaded due to concurrency issues. Leaving aside the obvious non-programming solution (get a bloody BETA web server) which for political/organizational reasons is not feasible, is there any way we can somehow hack around this problem in either Perl or mod_perl? I played around with various approaches to unloading Perl modules that %INC has listed, but the problem remains that another user might load a beta page at just the right (or rather wrong) moment and have the beta module loaded which will be used for my production page.

  Hi All, This is jetty 7 and xml configured, not embedded. I'm trying to serve a static file, crossdomain.xml, to an app that connects to a datasource I run from jetty. • Ws-Security headers using Metro

  I have a web service which implements WS-Security but does not define a policy in the WSDL. I am able to consume this web service successfully using Axis 2 as client. I am trying to consume the same web service using Metro 2 but the wsse:security headers are not going. It works only if the service defines the security policy which is not under my control. I tested this by creating a sample web service and unless I define the policy my metro client never sends the wsse:security headers. Is there anything I am missing using Metro?
