  • If I'm updating a DataRow, do I lock the entire DataTable or just the DataRow?

    - by Dan Tao
Suppose I'm accessing a DataTable from multiple threads. If I want to access a particular row, I suspect I need to lock that operation (I could be mistaken about this, but at least I know this way I'm safe): // this is a strongly-typed table OrdersRow row = null; lock (orderTable.Rows.SyncRoot) { row = orderTable.FindByOrderId(myOrderId); } But then, if I want to update that row, should I lock the table (or rather, the table's Rows.SyncRoot object) again, or can I simply lock the row?

  • Changing the working directory for a process remotely

    - by Michael
I've got an application that has a bug right now, but we're unable to update the end-user to get the fix out. What a possible workaround would be is to change the working directory to the application's install directory, but from what I can tell, there's no way to do that outside of the program itself. Is there some sort of Windows API call that can change other processes' working directories, or is that not available due to security issues? I figure it's not possible.

  • How can i estimate memory usage of stl::map?

    - by Drakosha
For example, I have a std::map with known sizeof(A) and sizefo(B), while map has N entries inside. How would you estimate its memory usage? I'd say it's something like (sizeof(A) + sizeof(B)) * N * factor But what is the factor? Different formula maybe? Update: Maybe it's easier to ask for upper bound?

  • Deleting items from a ListView using a custom BaseAdapter

    - by HXCaine
I am using a customised BaseAdapter to display items on a ListView. The items are just strings held in an ArrayList. The list items have a delete button on them (big red X), and I'd like to remove the item from the ArrayList, and notify the ListView to update itself. However, every implementation I've tried gets mysterious position numbers given to it, so for example clicking item 2's delete button will delete item 5's. It seems to be almost entirely random. One thing to note is that elements may be repeated, but must be kept in the same order. For example, I can have "Irish" twice, as elements 3 and 7. My code is below: private static class ViewHolder { TextView lang; int position; } public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { ViewHolder holder; if (convertView == null) { convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.language_link_row, null); holder = new ViewHolder(); holder.lang = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.language_link_text); holder.position = position; final ImageView deleteButton = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.language_link_cross_delete); deleteButton.setOnClickListener(this); convertView.setTag(holder); deleteButton.setTag(holder); } else { holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } holder.lang.setText(mLanguages.get(position)); return convertView; } I later attempt to retrieve the deleted element's position by grabbing the tag, but it's always the wrong position in the list. There is no noticeable pattern to the position given here, it always seems random. // The delete button's listener public void onClick(View v) { ViewHolder deleteHolder = (ViewHolder) v.getTag(); int pos = deleteHolder.position; ... ... ... } I would be quite happy to just delete the item from the ArrayList and have the ListView update itself, but the position I'm getting is incorrect so I can't do that. Please note that I did, at first, have the deleteButton clickListener inside the getView method, and used 'position' to delete the value, but I had the same problem. Any suggestions appreciated, this is really irritating me.

  • Maintaining content type pk integrity in a Django deployment

    - by hekevintran
When you run syncdb in Django, the primary keys of the content types will be recomputed. If I create new models, the next time I run syncdb, the primary keys of the content types will be different. If I have an application running in production, how can I update the database with the new models and keep the integrity of content type pks?

  • I have a php form dropdown menu that needs to send information

    - by shinjuo
    I have a dropdown menu that is filled by a mysql database. I need to select one and have it send the information for use on the next page after clicking submit. It does populate the drop down menu like it is supposed to it just does not seem to catch the data on the next page. Here is what I have: removeMain.php <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title></title> </head> <form action="remove.php" method="post"> <?php $link = mysql_connect('********', '********', '*********'); if (!$link){ die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("********", $link); $res = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM cardLists order by cardID") or die(mysql_error()); echo "<select name = CardID>"; while($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($res)) { echo "<option value=$row[ID]>$row[cardID]</a></option>"; } echo "</select>"; ?> Amount to Remove: <input type="text" name="Remove" /> <input type="submit" /> </form> <body> </body> </html> remove.php <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title></title> </head> <body> <?php $link = mysql_connect('*********', '*********', '*********'); if (!$link){ die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("***********y", $link); $query = sprintf("UPDATE cardLists SET AmountLeft = AmountLeft - %s WHERE cardID = '%s'", mysql_real_escape_string($_POST["Remove"]), mysql_real_escape_string($_POST["CardID"])); mysql_query($query); mysql_close($link); ?> <br /> <a href="removeMain.php"> <input type="submit" name="return" id="return" value="Update More" /></a> <a href="index.php"> <input type="submit" name="main" id="main" value="Return To Main" /></a> </body> </html>

  • How to optimize this mysql query - explain output included

    - by Sandeepan Nath
This is the query (a search query basically, based on tags):- select SUM(DISTINCT(ttagrels.id_tag in (2105,2120,2151,2026,2046) )) as key_1_total_matches, td.*, u.* from Tutors_Tag_Relations AS ttagrels Join Tutor_Details AS td ON td.id_tutor = ttagrels.id_tutor JOIN Users as u on u.id_user = td.id_user where (ttagrels.id_tag in (2105,2120,2151,2026,2046)) group by td.id_tutor HAVING key_1_total_matches = 1 And following is the database dump needed to execute this query:- CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Users` ( `id_user` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `id_group` int(11) NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`id_user`), KEY `Users_FKIndex1` (`id_group`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=730 ; INSERT INTO `Users` (`id_user`, `id_group`) VALUES (303, 1); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tutor_Details` ( `id_tutor` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `id_user` int(10) NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`id_tutor`), KEY `Users_FKIndex1` (`id_user`), KEY `id_user` (`id_user`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=58 ; INSERT INTO `Tutor_Details` (`id_tutor`, `id_user`) VALUES (26, 303); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tags` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `tag` varchar(255) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id_tag`), UNIQUE KEY `tag` (`tag`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`), KEY `tag_2` (`tag`), KEY `tag_3` (`tag`), KEY `tag_4` (`tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2957 ; INSERT INTO `Tags` (`id_tag`, `tag`) VALUES (2026, 'Brendan.\nIn'), (2046, 'Brendan.'), (2105, 'Brendan'), (2120, 'Brendan''s'), (2151, 'Brendan)'); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tutors_Tag_Relations` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `id_tutor` int(10) unsigned default NULL, `tutor_field` varchar(255) default NULL, `cdate` timestamp NOT NULL default CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, `udate` timestamp NULL default NULL, KEY `Tutors_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`), KEY `id_tutor` (`id_tutor`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`), KEY `id_tutor_2` (`id_tutor`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `Tutors_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`, `id_tutor`, `tutor_field`, `cdate`, `udate`) VALUES (2105, 26, 'firstname', '2010-06-17 17:08:45', NULL); ALTER TABLE `Tutors_Tag_Relations` ADD CONSTRAINT `Tutors_Tag_Relations_ibfk_2` FOREIGN KEY (`id_tutor`) REFERENCES `Tutor_Details` (`id_tutor`) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION, ADD CONSTRAINT `Tutors_Tag_Relations_ibfk_1` FOREIGN KEY (`id_tag`) REFERENCES `Tags` (`id_tag`) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION; What the query does? This query actually searches tutors which contain "Brendan"(as their name or biography or something). The id_tags 2105,2120,2151,2026,2046 are nothing but the tags which are LIKE "%Brendan%". My question is :- 1.In the explain of this query, the reference column shows NULL for ttagrels, but there are possible keys (Tutors_Tag_Relations,id_tutor,id_tag,id_tutor_2). So, why is no key being taken. How to make the query take references. Is it possible at all? 2. The other two tables td and u are using references. Any indexing needed in those? I think not. Check the explain query output here http://www.test.examvillage.com/explain.png

  • DRY URL's in Django Javascript

    - by Noio
I'm using Django on Appengine. I'm using the django reverse() function everywhere, keeping everything as DRY as possible. However, I'm having trouble applying this to my client-side javascript. There is a JS class that loads some data depending on a passed-in ID. Is there a standard way to not-hardcode the URL that this data should come from? var rq = new Request.HTML({ 'update':this.element, }).get('/template/'+template_id+'/preview'); //The part that bothers me.

  • Working with foreigh keys - cannot insert

Hi everyone! Doing my first tryouts with foreign keys in a mySQL database and are trying to do a insert, that fails for this reason: Integrity constraint violation: 1452 Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails Does this mean that foreign keys restrict INSERTS as well as DELETES and/or UPDATES on each table that is enforced with foreign keys relations? Thanks!

  • Possible uncommitted transactions causing "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired" erro

    - by Michael
My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read comments about increasing the timeout period but I've also read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application. I'll provide the code I'm working with and there is an IF statement in there that I was a little iffy about but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I'll just go over what's going on here, there is a list of objects to update or add into the database. New objects created in the application are given an ID of 0 while existing objects have their own ID's generated from the DB. If the user chooses to delete some objects, their IDs are stored in a separate list of Integers. Once the user is ready to save their changes, the two lists are passed into this method. By use of the IF statement, objects with ID of 0 are added (using the Add stored procedure) and those objects with non-zero IDs are updated (using the Update stored procedure). After all this, a FOR loop goes through all the integers in the "removal" list and uses the Delete stored procedure to remove them. A transaction is used for all this. Public Shared Sub UpdateSomethings(ByVal SomethingList As List(Of Something), ByVal RemovalList As List(Of Integer)) Using DBConnection As New SqlConnection(conn) DBConnection.Open() Dim MyTransaction As SqlTransaction MyTransaction = DBConnection.BeginTransaction() Try For Each SomethingItem As Something In SomethingList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand() MyCommand.Connection = DBConnection If SomethingItem.ID > 0 Then MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Else MyCommand.CommandText = "AddSomething" End If MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters If MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Then .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = SomethingItem.ID End If .Add("@stuff", SqlDbType.Varchar).Value = SomethingItem.Stuff End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next For Each ID As Integer In RemovalList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand("DeleteSomething", DBConnection) MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = ID End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next MyTransaction.Commit() Catch ex As Exception MyTransaction.Rollback() 'Exception handling goes here End Try End Using End Sub There are three stored procedures used here as well as some looping so I can see how something can be holding everything up if the list is large enough. Other users can log in to the system at the same time just fine though. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 to debug and am using SQL Server 2000 for the DB.

  • How to delegate SwingWorker's publish to other methods

    - by Savvas Dalkitsis
My "problem" can be described by the following. Assume we have an intensive process that we want to have running in the background and have it update a Swing JProgress bar. The solution is easy: import java.util.List; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JProgressBar; import javax.swing.SwingWorker; /** * @author Savvas Dalkitsis */ public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { final JProgressBar progressBar = new JProgressBar(0,99); SwingWorker<Void, Integer> w = new SwingWorker<Void, Integer>(){ @Override protected void process(List<Integer> chunks) { progressBar.setValue(chunks.get(chunks.size()-1)); } @Override protected Void doInBackground() throws Exception { for (int i=0;i<100;i++) { publish(i); Thread.sleep(300); } return null; } }; w.execute(); JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(null, new Object[] { "Process", progressBar }, "Process", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION, JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE, null, null, null); } } Now assume that i have various methods that take a long time. For instance we have a method that downloads a file from a server. Or another that uploads to a server. Or anything really. What is the proper way of delegating the publish method to those methods so that they can update the GUI appropriately? What i have found so far is this (assume that the method "aMethod" resides in some other package for instance): import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.util.List; import javax.swing.AbstractAction; import javax.swing.Action; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JProgressBar; import javax.swing.SwingWorker; /** * @author Savvas Dalkitsis */ public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { final JProgressBar progressBar = new JProgressBar(0,99); SwingWorker<Void, Integer> w = new SwingWorker<Void, Integer>(){ @Override protected void process(List<Integer> chunks) { progressBar.setValue(chunks.get(chunks.size()-1)); } @SuppressWarnings("serial") @Override protected Void doInBackground() throws Exception { aMethod(new AbstractAction() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { publish((Integer)getValue("progress")); } }); return null; } }; w.execute(); JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(null, new Object[] { "Process", progressBar }, "Process", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION, JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE, null, null, null); } public static void aMethod (Action action) { for (int i=0;i<100;i++) { action.putValue("progress", i); action.actionPerformed(null); try { Thread.sleep(300); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } } It works but i know it lacks something. Any thoughts?

  • Does MS PnP Unity Scan for Assemblies Like StructureMap?

    - by rasx
In Using StructureMap 2.5 to scan all assemblies in a folder, we can see that StructureMap uses AssembliesFromPath() to explicitly look for types to resolve. What is the equivalent of this in Microsoft Unity? Because Unity is such a generic term, searching for documents about this online is not that easy. Update: Unity has something called an Assembly Matching Rule but its description does not communicate to me that it scans folders.

  • Accessing updated M2M fields in overriden save() in django's admin

    - by Jonathan
I'd like to use the user updated values of a ManyToManyField in a model's overriden save() method when I save an instance in admin. It turns out that by design, django does not update the M2M field before calling save(), but only after the save() is complete as part of the form save... How can I access the new values of this field in the override save() ?

  • ASP.NET - working with GridView Programmatically

    - by JMSA
    I am continuing from this post. After much Googling, I have come up with this code to edit cells programmatically: using System; using System.Data; using System.Configuration; using System.Collections; using System.Web; using System.Web.Security; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts; using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls; using Ice_Web_Portal.BO; namespace GridView___Test { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } protected void GridView1_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e) { GridViewRow row = GridView1.Rows[e.NewEditIndex]; GridView1.EditIndex = e.NewEditIndex; GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } protected void GridView1_RowUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e) { TextBox txtID = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[1].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseCode = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[2].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseName = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[3].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseTextBookCode = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[4].Controls[0]; Course item = new Course(); item.ID = Convert.ToInt32(txtID.Text); item.CourseCode = txtCourseCode.Text; item.CourseName = txtCourseName.Text; item.TextBookCode = txtCourseTextBookCode.Text; bool success = Course.Update(item); labMessage.Text = success.ToString(); GridView1.EditIndex = -1; GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } } } But 2 problems are happening. (1) I need to press command buttons twice to Edit/Update. (2) Changes in the cell values are not updated in the database. I.e. edited cell values are not committing. Can anyone give me a solution?
