• Where is the best place to call the .tolist(); inside my controller classes or inside my model repository classes

  I'm building a Windows 8 Metro app (aka "Modern UI Style" or "Windows Store app") in HTML5/JavaScript consuming JSON Web Services and I'm bumping into the following issue: in which format should my JSON Web Services serialize dates for the Windows 8 Metro JSON.parse method to deserialize those in a date type? I tried: sending dates using the ISO-8601 format, (JSON.parse returns a string), sending dates such as "/Date(1198908717056)/" as explained here (same result). I'm starting to doubt that Windows 8's JSON.parse method supports dates as even when parsing the output of its own JSON.stringify method does not return a date type. • Should I be using abstract methods in this Python scenario?

  I'm not sure my approach is good design and I'm hoping I can get a tip. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of an abstract method, but in this case I want the method to be optional.   I have a before_save method that I call that renames an uploaded image. before_save :randomize_file_name def randomize_file_name extension = File.extname(screen_file_name).downcase key = ActiveSupport::SecureRandom.hex(8) self.screen.instance_write(:file_name, "#{key}#{extension}") end That method is part of my Item model. That works great when I create a new item or need to update the image associated with an item...but the problem is that if I need to update an item but NOT the image, the randomize_file_name method still gets run and renames the file in the database (though not the file itself, obviously). So, I'm thinking I need to figure out a way to only run randomize_file_name if a file is included in the form submission...but I'm not sure how to pull that off.

• How to link more than one object at a time in Xcode 4.2?

  I'm probably missing the basics here... Is there a way to link more than one object to a method at a time using Interface Builder in Xcode 4.2? I set tons of UIButtons in my UIView. All of them call just one method (let's say - (IBAction)buttonPushed:(UIButton *)aButton) that should do something different depending on the sender. I can't figure out a way to link them all with my method at a time. Any advice will be very appreciated... N.B. I'm using Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard, without storyboard.

  I am trying to find the best way to solve the following problem. By best way I mean less complex. As an input a list of tuples (start,length) such: [(0,5),(0,1),(1,9),(5,5),(5,7),(10,1)] Each element represets a sequence by its start and length, for example (5,7) is equivalent to the sequence (5,6,7,8,9,10,11) - a list of 7 elements starting with 5. One can assume that the tuples are sorted by the start element. The output should return a non-overlapping combination of tuples that represent the longest continuos sequences(s). This means that, a solution is a subset of ranges with no overlaps and no gaps and is the longest possible - there could be more than one though. For example for the given input the solution is: [(0,5),(5,7)] equivalent to (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11) is it backtracking the best approach to solve this problem ? I'm interested in any different approaches that people could suggest. Also if anyone knows a formal reference of this problem or another one that is similar I'd like to get references. BTW - this is not homework. Edit Just to avoid some mistakes this is another example of expected behaviour for an input like [(0,1),(1,7),(3,20),(8,5)] the right answer is [(3,20)] equivalent to (3,4,5,..,22) with length 20. Some of the answers received would give [(0,1),(1,7),(8,5)] equivalent to (0,1,2,...,11,12) as right answer. But this last answer is not correct because is shorter than [(3,20)].

• Slow Response in checkbox using JQuery

  Hi to all. I'm trying to optimize a website. The flow is i tried to query a certain table and all of its data entry in a page(w/ toolbars), work fine. When i tried to edit the page the problem is when i click the checkbox button i have to wait 2-5sec just by clicking it. I limit the viewing of entry to 5 only but the response on checkbox doesn't change. • Show iPad keyboard on select, focus or always (jQuery)

  I have a web app that is using jQuery to replace the RETURN key with TAB so that when I user presses return the form is not submitted but rather the cursor moves to the next text field. This works in all browsers but only 1/2 works on the iPad. On the iPad the next field is highlighted but the keyboard is hidden. How can I keep the keyboard visible or force it somehow?   On my site, a user gets email notifications when someone comments on their profile, or comments on their blog etc...I have made a email settings page that has checkboxes to allow the user to decide to receive emails or not. • How to prevent unit test from using util from test project?

  I am using eclipse and I have two projects, project1 and project1-test. Below is the example layout of my projects: project1 -src --my.package ----MyClass.java --my.package.util ----util.java project1-test -src --my.package ----MyClassTest.java --my.package.util ----util.java MyClass.java makes a static call to the util.java in project1. MyClassTests.java is testing MyClass.java. When the test class runs, it fails and complains that MyClass.java is referencing a method in util.java that doesn't exist. Under project1, the method being referenced exists in util.java but under project1-test, the method doesn't. When I run MyClassTests.java, the util.java that is being referenced from MyClass.java is from project1-test when it should be project1. Is there some way to make MyClass.java not reference util.java from project1-test when running MyClassTest.java?

  Hello, I would like to ask for a little help here, since I haven't got any big knowledge in Javascript, nor in jQuery. I need to show 5 radio buttons when a checkbox is checked, the checkboxes represent languages that the user speaks, so for each of the selected, there should appear 5 separate radio buttons for how good they speak it(1 to 5). I tried to do it with jQuery, but I did not manage to get very far away... Checking all subtypes of Object wich qualify for serialization It seems I can't use Serializable for my List... I could use my own interface instead (something like AsyncDataInterface, wich implements the Serializable interface) but the fact is that my method will return a list custom objects AND basic objects (such as Strings, int....). So my questions are: Is it a standart behaviour? (I can't figure out why I can't use this interface in that case) Does anyone have a workaround for that kind of situation?

  I am writing a function, that takes a matrix as input, such as the one below. Then the it returns the matrix' inverse, where all the 1s are changed to 0s and all the 0s changed to 1s, while keeping the diagonal from top left to bottom right 0s. An example input: g1 = [[0, 1, 1, 0], [1, 0, 0, 1], [1, 0, 0, 1], [0, 1, 1, 0]] the function should output this: g1 = [[0, 0, 0, 1], [0, 0, 1, 0], [0, 1, 0, 0], [1, 0, 0, 0]] When I run the program, it raises a list index out of range error. I'm sure this happens, because the loops I have set up are trying to access values that do not exist. But how do I allow an input of unknown row and column size? I only know how to do this with a single list, but a list of lists?   I'm looking for a good profiler for vs2008 professional edition, free or reasonably priced. I've already checked previous posts and tried about 8 profilers, but most of them are too basic or too detailed. Kindly suggest something, my requirements are as follows: It can be compiled, so that its well integrated with my application. I'm not shying away from instrumenting my methods. The output should be simple, i only need call count and time taken by methods and nothing else. I am mostly concerned about things INSIDE a method, you may call it line by line profiling. I want to select a method and know which line (expression / method call) is eating most of the time.

Do I need to change my ServiceBehavior? The Configuration method is only consumed by one person by the way.
