  • Why is "origin/HEAD" shown when running "git branch -r"?

    - by Ben Hamill
When you run git branch -r why the blazes does it list origin/HEAD? For example, there's a remote repo on GitHub, say, with two branches: master and awesome-feature. If I do git clone to grab it and then go into my new directory and list the branches, I see this: $ git branch -r origin/HEAD origin/master origin/awesome-feature Or whatever order it would be in (alpha? I'm faking this example to keep the identity of an innocent repo secret). So what's the HEAD business? Is it what the last person to push had their HEAD pointed at when they pushed? Won't that always be whatever it was they pushed? HEADs move around... why do I care what someone's HEAD pointed at on another machine? I'm just getting a handle on remote tracking and such, so this is one lingering confusion. Thanks! EDIT: I was under the impression that dedicated remote repos (like GitHub where no one will ssh in and work on that code, but only pull or push, etc) didn't and shouldn't have a HEAD because there was, basically, no working copy. Not so?

  • Use LINQ to count the number of combinations existing in two lists

    - by Ben McCormack
I'm trying to create a LINQ query (or queries) that count the total number of occurences of a combinations of items in one list that exist in a different list. For example, take the following lists: CartItems DiscountItems ========= ============= AAA AAA AAA BBB AAA BBB BBB CCC CCC DDD The result of the query operation should be 2 since I can find two combinations of AAA and BBB (from DiscountItems) within the contents of CartItems. My thinking in approaching the query is to join the lists together to shorten CartItems to only include items from DiscountItems. The solution would be to find the CartItem in the resulting query that occurs the least amount of times, thus indicating how many combinations of items exist in CartItems. How can this be done? Here's the query I already have, but it's not working. query results in an enumeration with 100 items, far more than I expected. Dim query = From cartItem In Cart.CartItems Group Join discountItem In DiscountGroup.DiscountItems On cartItem.SKU Equals discountItem.SKU Into Group Select SKU = cartItem.SKU, CartItems = Group Return query.Min(Function(x) x.CartItems.Sum(Function(y) y.Quantity))

  • QuickBox2D poly behaviour vs box or circle

    - by Ben Kanizay
    Hi I've played a little with Box2D before and have just started using QuickBox2D which makes things heaps easier. I am however getting different behaviour with a specific poly shape than I am with a box. All other properties are the same. I've included 3 simple examples and their source below. What I really want to work is Example 1 with both objects as poly. As you can see, it seems like the 'paddle' poly is the one that's failing - the 'ball' (whether it's a poly or circle) just falls straight through it instead of bouncing off as it does with a box 'paddle' object. Would appreciate some help or insight. As I can only post one line at this stage, the swf previews of the 3 examples can be seen here Example 1 source: package { import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickBox2D; import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickObject; import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Eg1 extends MovieClip { private var sim:QuickBox2D; private var paddle:QuickObject; private var ball:QuickObject; public function Eg1() { this.sim = new QuickBox2D(this); this.paddle = this.sim.addPoly({ x:13, y:19, angle:0, density:0, draggable:false, isBullet:true, verts:[[-3.84,-0.67,-2.84,-1,-2.17,-0.33,2.17,-0.33,2.84,-1,3.84,-0.67,2.84,1,-2.51,1]] }); this.ball = this.sim.addPoly({ x:13, y:1, restitution:1, friction:1, draggable:false, isBullet:true, verts:[[-0.34,-1,0.34,-1,0.67,-0.33,0.67,0.33,0.34,1,-0.34,1,-0.67,0.33,-0.67,-0.33]] }); this.sim.start(); } }} Example 2 source: package { import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickBox2D; import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickObject; import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Eg2 extends MovieClip { private var sim:QuickBox2D; private var paddle:QuickObject; private var ball:QuickObject; public function Eg2() { this.sim = new QuickBox2D(this); this.paddle = this.sim.addBox({ x:13, y:19, angle:0, density:0, draggable:false, isBullet:true, width:8 }); this.ball = this.sim.addPoly({ x:13, y:1, restitution:1, friction:1, draggable:false, isBullet:true, verts:[[-0.34,-1,0.34,-1,0.67,-0.33,0.67,0.33,0.34,1,-0.34,1,-0.67,0.33,-0.67,-0.33]] }); this.sim.start(); } }} Example 3 source: package { import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickBox2D; import com.actionsnippet.qbox.QuickObject; import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Eg3 extends MovieClip { private var sim:QuickBox2D; private var paddle:QuickObject; private var ball:QuickObject; public function Eg3() { this.sim = new QuickBox2D(this); this.paddle = this.sim.addPoly({ x:13, y:19, angle:0, density:0, draggable:false, isBullet:true, verts:[[-3.84,-0.67,-2.84,-1,-2.17,-0.33,2.17,-0.33,2.84,-1,3.84,-0.67,2.84,1,-2.51,1]] }); this.ball = this.sim.addCircle({ x:13, y:1, restitution:1, friction:1, draggable:false, isBullet:true, radius:1 }); this.sim.start(); } }}

  • Calculate angle of moving ball after collision with angled or sloped wall that is a 2D line segment

    - by Ben Mc
If you have a "ball" inside a 2D polygon, made up of say, 4 line segments that act as bounding walls, how do you calculate the angle of the ball after the collision with the irregularly sloped wall? I know how to make the ball bounce if the wall is horizontal, vertical, or at a 45 degree angle. I also have my code setup to detect a collision with the wall. I've read about dot products and normals, but I cannot figure out how to implement these in Java / Android. I'm completely stumped and feel like I've looked up everything 10 pages deep in Google 10 times now. I'm burned out trying to figure this out, I hope someone can help.

  • Converting old Mailer to Rails 3 (multipart/mixed)

    - by Oscar Del Ben
    I'm having some difficulties converting this old mailer api to rails 3: content_type "multipart/mixed" part :content_type => "multipart/alternative" do |alt| alt.part "text/plain" do |p| p.body = render_message("summary_report.text.plain.erb", :message = message.gsub(/<.br./,"\n"), :campaign=campaign, :aggregate=aggregate, :promo_messages=campaign.participating_promo_msgs) end alt.part "text/html" do |p| p.body = render_message("summary_report.text.html.erb", :message = message, :campaign=campaign, :aggregate=aggregate,:promo_messages=campaign.participating_promo_msgs) end end if bounce_path attachment :content_type => "text/csv", :body=> File.read(bounce_path), :filename => "rmo_bounced_emails.csv" end attachment :content_type => "application/pdf", :body => File.read(report_path), :filename=>"rmo_report.pdf" In particular I don't understand how to differentiate the different multipart options. Any idea?

  • Javascript Canvas Element - Array Of Images

    - by Ben Shelock
I'm just learning JS, trying to do things without jQuery, and I want to make something similar to this however I want to use an array of images instead of just the one. My image array is formed like this var image_array = new Array() image_array[0] = "image1.jpg" image_array[1] = "image2.jpg" And the canvas element is written like this. (Pretty much entirely taken from the Mozilla site) function draw() { var ctx = document.getElementById('canvas').getContext('2d'); var img = new Image(); img.src = 'sample.png'; img.onload = function(){ for (i=0;i<5;i++){ for (j=0;j<9;j++){ ctx.drawImage(img,j*126,i*126,126,126); } } } } It uses the image "sample.png" in that code but I want to change it to display an image from the array. Displaying a different one each time it loops. Apoligies if I've not explained this well.

  • How do you store sets in Cassandra?

    - by Ben W
I'd like to convert this JSON to a data model in Cassandra, where each of the arrays is a set with no duplicates: var data = { "data1": { "100": [1, 2, 3], "200": [3, 4] }, "data2": { "k1", [1], "k2", [4, 5] } } I'd like to query like this: data["data1"]["100"] to retrieve the sets. Anyone know how you might model this in Cassandra? (The only thing I came up with was columns whose name was a set value and the value of the column was an empty string, but that felt wrong.) It's not OK to serialize the sets as JSON or some other string, which would make this much easier. Also, I should note that it's OK to split data1 and data2 into separate ColumnFamilies, it's not necessary that they're keys in the same one.

  • Why is git better than Subversion?

    - by Ben Mills
I've been using Subversion for a few years and after using SourceSafe, I just love Subversion. Combined with TortoiseSVN, I can't really imagine how it could be any better. Yet there's a growing number of developers claiming that Subversion has problems and that we should be moving to the new breed of distributed version control systems, such as Git. Can anyone explain how Git improves upon Subversion?

  • Interesting LinqToSql behaviour

    - by Ben Robinson
We have a database table that stores the location of some wave files plus related meta data. There is a foreign key (employeeid) on the table that links to an employee table. However not all wav files relate to an employee, for these records employeeid is null. We are using LinqToSQl to access the database, the query to pull out all non employee related wav file records is as follows: var results = from Wavs in db.WaveFiles where Wavs.employeeid == null; Except this returns no records, despite the fact that there are records where employeeid is null. On profiling sql server i discovered the reason no records are returned is because LinqToSQl is turning it into SQL that looks very much like: SELECT Field1, Field2 //etc FROM WaveFiles WHERE 1=0 Obviously this returns no rows. However if I go into the DBML designer and remove the association and save. All of a sudden the exact same LINQ query turns into SELECT Field1, Field2 //etc FROM WaveFiles WHERE EmployeeID IS NULL I.e. if there is an association then LinqToSql assumes that all records have a value for the foreign key (even though it is nullable and the property appears as a nullable int on the WaveFile entity) and as such deliverately constructs a where clause that will return no records. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep the association in LinqToSQL but stop this behaviour. A workaround i can think of quickly is to have a calculated field called IsSystemFile and set it to 1 if employeeid is null and 0 otherwise. However this seems like a bit of a hack to work around strange behaviour of LinqToSQl and i would rather do something in the DBML file or define something on the foreign key constraint that will prevent this behaviour.

  • Any way to animate new elements in a GridView being added?

    - by Ben L.
My app polls a server every 15 seconds to see if there are any new items to display, then downloads the new items and disposes of the old items so that there are always exactly 100 items in the GridView. Unfortunately, this process can be confusing to the user if they see a page of images change without knowing where the items went. My idea is that there could be some kind of animation (such as the new items being inserted at the top and pushing the older ones down the list) to show what action is happening. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make this animation happen. Is my idea even possible? How would I accomplish this?

  • MustOverride Shared Methods in .Net

    - by Ben
Hi I have a few class's that inherit from a base class. I want to enforce that all of these Class's implement a shared method foo(). I am not able to create the following on the base class Public MustOvveride Shared Sub foo() as this is not allowed. I also cant create an Interface that defines a Shared Sub Foo() and implement that in my derrived class's, as this also is not allowed. Does anyone know how i should implement this? p.s i realise my example is in VB and i have also tagged C#, the same problem applies to both languages and presumably the same fix would apply.

  • How can I get jcifs to play nicely with apache axis

    - by Ben Hammond
I need to connect Apache Axis 1.4 to a Webservice that uses NTLM authentication to restrict access to its operations. I'm expecting to use Samba Jcifs to handle the NTLM handshake. I found http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client/ntlm.html which gives me fantastic directions for how to wire up HttpClient 4.0 with jcifs. Trouble is, Axis wants to use Http Client 3.0 and the two apis look very different. There are 2 possibilities that I can see Write an object for Axis that lets it plug into HttpClient 4. Figure out how to wire HttpClient 3.0 up with Samba Jcifs. Number 1. looks non-trivial, but possible Number 2. I cannot find any encouraging messages on the web describing how to do this. My question is: has anyone successfully connected samba jcifs with HttpClient 3.0 ? Has anyone already created an Axis HttpSender object that works with HttpClient 4 ? Is there some better alternative that I have not considered?

Is there any way of getting around this and getting my site onto the Search engine lists (without paying)? (Any advise on getting my site on search engines lists would be greatly appreciated). Thanks

  • Accessing an RSS feed in Flex, works when run from Flash Builder 4, but not when the project is onli

    - by ben
Hey guys, In my Flex 4 app, I access an RSS feed (I'm using http://news.ycombinator.com/rss as a dummy). It works okay when I run it from Flash Builder 4, but if I export the project and upload it, I get the following error when it tries to load the RSS feed: Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: my_website_url cannot load data from http://news.ycombinator.com/rss. What could be causing this error? Shouldn't RSS be able to be accessed from anywhere? Thanks for reading.

  • Specify only the second parameter in a javascript function

    - by Ben McCormack
The spec for the jQuery ajax.error function is: error(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown)Function I'm trying to catch the error and display the textStatus, but I can't figure out how to specify only the textStatus without having to put in a variable name for XMLHttpRequest and errorThrown. My code currently looks like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", url: hbAddressValidation.webServiceUrl, data: this.jsonRequest, dataType: "json", timeout: 5, success: function (msgd) { //... }, error: function (a,textStatus,b) { $("#txtAjaxError").val("There was an error in the AJAX call: " + textStatus); } }); You can see in my code that I'm putting variables a and b as placeholders for the first and last variables in the error function. I know that in my success function, I'm only providing one parameter and it works fine, but in that case data is the first parameter. In the case of error, textStatus is the second parameter, but that's the only one I want to specify. Is this possible?

  • Multithreading A Function in VB.Net

    - by Ben
I am trying to multi thread my application so as it is visible while it is executing the process, this is what I have so far: Private Sub SendPOST(ByVal URL As String) Try Dim DataBytes As Byte() = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("") Dim Request As HttpWebRequest = TryCast(WebRequest.Create(URL.Trim & "/webdav/"), HttpWebRequest) Request.Method = "POST" Request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" Request.ContentLength = DataBytes.Length Request.Timeout = 1000 Request.ReadWriteTimeout = 1000 Dim PostData As Stream = Request.GetRequestStream() PostData.Write(DataBytes, 0, DataBytes.Length) Dim Response As WebResponse = Request.GetResponse() Dim ResponseStream As Stream = Response.GetResponseStream() Dim StreamReader As New IO.StreamReader(ResponseStream) Dim Text As String = StreamReader.ReadToEnd() PostData.Close() Catch ex As Exception If ex.ToString.Contains("401") Then TextBox2.Text = TextBox2.Text & URL & "/webdav/" & vbNewLine End If End Try End Sub Public Sub G0() Dim siteSplit() As String = TextBox1.Text.Split(vbNewLine) For i = 0 To siteSplit.Count - 1 Try If siteSplit(i).Contains("http://") Then SendPOST(siteSplit(i).Trim) Else SendPOST("http://" & siteSplit(i).Trim) End If Catch ex As Exception End Try Next End Sub Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim t As Thread t = New Thread(AddressOf Me.G0) t.Start() End Sub However, the 'G0' sub code is not being executed at all, and I need to multi thread the 'SendPOST' as that is what slows the application.

  • Is there a Java equivalent for Ruby on Rails "url_for"?

    - by Oren Ben-Kiki
I have written something like this pretty easily in C# (string GetUrl(new { controller = "foo", action = "bar", baz = "fnord" }), based on the existing capabilities of the XmlRouteCollection class provided by the ASP.NET MVC framework (why it isn't there out of the box is beyond me; the additional required code was trivial). I am now faced with a JSP project, and I need the same ability: centralize the logic for generating all URLs in one place, based on a list of routing rules. Is there some code somewhere I could reuse/adapt to do this in Java? It seems like a common enough requirement, but google proved surprisingly unhelpful in finding something like this.

  • Setting default values for inherited property without using accessor in Objective-C?

    - by Ben Stock
I always see people debating whether or not to use a property's setter in the -init method. I don't know enough about the Objective-C language yet to have an opinion one way or the other. With that said, lately I've been sticking to ivars exclusively. It seems cleaner in a way. I don't know. I digress. Anyway, here's my problem … Say we have a class called Dude with an interface that looks like this: @interface Dude : NSObject { @private NSUInteger _numberOfGirlfriends; } @property (nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger numberOfGirlfriends; @end And an implementation that looks like this: @implementation Dude - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { _numberOfGirlfriends = 0; } } @end Now let's say I want to extend Dude. My subclass will be called Playa. And since a playa should have mad girlfriends, when Playa gets initialized, I don't want him to start with 0; I want him to have 10. Here's Playa.m: @implementation Playa - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { // Attempting to set the ivar directly will result in the compiler saying, // "Instance variable `_numberOfGirlfriends` is private." // _numberOfGirlfriends = 10; <- Can't do this. // Thus, the only way to set it is with the mutator: self.numberOfGirlfriends = 10; // Or: [self setNumberOfGirlfriends:10]; } } @end So what's a Objective-C newcomer to do? Well, I mean, there's only one thing I can do, and that's set the property. Unless there's something I'm missing. Any ideas, suggestions, tips, or tricks? Sidenote: The other thing that bugs me about setting the ivar directly — and what a lot of ivar-proponents say is a "plus" — is that there are no KVC notifications. A lot of times, I want the KVC magic to happen. 50% of my setters end in [self setNeedsDisplay:YES], so without the notification, my UI doesn't update unless I remember to manually add -setNeedsDisplay. That's a bad example, but the point stands. I utilize KVC all over the place, so without notifications, things can act wonky. Anyway, any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Querying Active Directory in ruby app on Windows box

    - by Ben
I have a small ruby app in which I'm trying to query some information from Active Directory. The app will be run by a Windows user who is already logged in. It looks like the ruby-net-ldap gem wants me to connect to an LDAP server using an IP address, port and then pass my username and password. Is there a way to achieve this (with a different gem, say) so that I don't have to pass this information (I don't have the current user's password for example, so that's not going to work)? I'm also hosting a Trac website on our intranet (which is written in Python if I remember correctly and that seems to know the current Windows username and domain. If it can do it, surely my little ruby app can access this information too?

  • jQuery slideDown() Makes Everything in Wrapper Shift

    - by Ben
Hello everyone, I am currently creating a simple menu where there are several names of services and a user can click on one and jQuery will show it's corresponding paragraph describing it below it. My jQuery code is fine and does exactly what I want, however, I have one bug I have yet to iron out. Whenever I click one of these headings and it's description displays, everything in the wrapper for the page shifts to the left about 7 pixels in Firefox, it does the same thing is Google Chrome however I have not measured the amout but I am sure it is irrelevant. Anyways, I am using the slideToggle() command to show the hidden parragraph. I assume this is occuring because when the slideDown occurs it is somehow changing the width of everything and the "margin: 0 auto;" setting for the wrapper rule in my css is compensating for this change. Does anyone have any way I can remedy this problem? I have tried several other fixes I've found around the internet but to no avail. Here is what my code looks like, I put it on jsFiddle to make it easier to view: http://jsfiddle.net/vcH7m/ Feel free to edit it there if you like, or post what needs to be fixed here. Whatever is more convenient. Thank you very much for the help!

  • SNMP in Java, specifically to be JMX adapter.

    - by Ben
Hi, I have a few JAVA application that I monitor using JMX. I would like to write an SNMP client for these applications that wraps the JMX interface and by discovery exposes the same attributes that are exposed in JMX, through SNMP. I have no problem writing the client if I just figure out how to write SNMP clients in JAVA. Is there a free SNMP library for JAVA that I can use? Is there a good free SNMP adapter for JMX? (Tried "WebNMS SNMP Adapter for JMX" trial unsuccessfully) Thank you!
