• Unique element ID to reference later

  I'm trying to figure out a method of storing a unique reference to each tag on a particular page. I won't have any ability to edit the page content and I'll the generated UID to stay the same on every page refresh. Since browsers don't generate any kind of UID for elements, I was thinking that the only method to do this would be to execute a script which walks the DOM and creates a UID for each it comes across. I don't know how accurate this will be, especially considering I'll need to ensure it creates the same UID for the tag each time the script crawls the page. Can anyone think of any other, more accurate ways of mapping a page? Many thanks.

• Separate functionality depending on Role in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm looking for an elegant pattern to solve this problem: I have several user roles in my system, and for many of my controller actions, I need to deal with slightly different data. For example, take /Users/Edit/1 This allows a Moderator to edit a users email address, but Administrators to edit a user's email address and password. I'd like a design for separating the two different bits of action code for the GET and the POST. Solutions I've come up with so far are: Switch inside each method, however this doesn't really help when i want different model arguments on the POST :( Custom controller factory which chooses a UsersController_ForModerators and UsersController_ForAdmins instead of just UsersController from the controller name and current user role Custom action invoker which choose the Edit_ForModerators method in a similar way to above Have an IUsersController and register a different implementation of it in my IoC container as a named instance based on Role Build an implementation of the controller at runtime using Castle DynamicProxy and manipulate the methods to those from role-based implementations Im preferring the named IoC instance route atm as it means all my urls/routing will work seamlessly. Ideas? Suggestions?

  Hello , I went through local variables and class variables concept. But I had stuck at a doubt " Why is it so that we cannot declare local variables as static " ? For e.g Suppose we have a play( ) function : void play( ) { static int i=5; System.out.println(i); } It gives me error in eclipse : Illegal modifier for parameter i; I had this doubt because of the following concepts I have read : Variables inside method : scope is local i.e within that method. • How to store images without taking up huge amounts of RAM

  I'm working on a silverlight project where users get to create their own Collages. The problem When loading a bunch of images by using the BitmapImage class, Silverlight hogs up huge unreasonable amounts of RAM. 150 pictures where single ones fill up at most 4,5mb takes up about 1,6GB of RAM--thus ending up throwing memory exceptions. I'm loading them through streams, since the user selects their own photos. What I'm looking for A class, method or some process to eliminate the huge amount of RAM being sucked up. I've tried using a WriteableBitmap to render the images into, but I find this method forces me to reinvent the wheel when it comes to drag/drop and other things I want users to be able to do with the images.

• Unable to run cvlc in a script

  I'm creating a script that issues a few curl commands in order to access a time-protected mms stream link, then set up a relay using cvlc (vlc's command line interface) for my own use on an unencumbered player. The curl aspect of this is working, as I can run as a browser and curl side by side and get the same access url. (It's time locked meaning the stream will work forever, but you have to connect quickly or the URL will time out.) The very end of the script prints the command I will run, which is then followed up by "exec $CMD". When I echo $CMD I get: cvlc --sout '#standard{access=http,mux=asf,dst=0.0.0.0:58194}' mms://[...] But the cvlc execution output says: [0x9743d0] main interface error: no suitable interface module [0x962120] main libvlc error: interface "globalhotkeys,none" initialization failed [0x9743d0] dummy interface: using the dummy interface module...   Hi, I have the following piece of code: for i := 0 to FControlList.Count - 1 do if Supports(IMyControl(FControlList[i]), IMyControlEx) then begin MyControlEx := IMyControl(FControlList[i]) as IMyControlEx; MyControlEx.DoYourMagic(Self, SomeData); end; This code is called many times during my application execution, but in some specific cases it fails inside the Supports() method. And more specifically - it seems to fall inside the QueryInterface() call within the Supports() method. I checked that FControlList is not nil and FControlList[i] is not nil and it still happens. Any idea will be appreciated!!!

  Hello, On one side, in Vb.Net when you add an event handler to an object the created method is named: <NameOfTheObject>_<NameOfTheMethod>. As I like to have consistent syntax I always follow this rule when creating event handlers by hand. On the other side when I create private variables I prefix them with m_ as this is a common thing used by the community, in C# people use to put _ at the beginning of a variable but this is no CLS compliant. At the end, when I create event handlers for events raised by private variables I end with Subs like m_myVariable_MyEvent. Code Analysis (Fx Cop) is complainig about this way of naming because the method does not start with uppercase and because the _, so the question is: What naming standards do you follow when creating event handlers by hand that follow the Fxcop rules if any? • Enabling depth testing when using CAOpenGLLayer

  If one is using a subclass of NSOpenGLView then one enables depth testing by selecting a 16/24/32 bit buffer from the attributes menu in Xcode, and then adding glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST); glClear(GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); to the drawRect method. However, in the application I'm creating I'm rendering OpenGL content via the drawInCGLContext method of a CAOpenGLLayer which is contained within a subclass of NSView. This means that it is no longer possible to create a depth buffer via the inspector. Does anyone know how I can achieve this in such a situation?

The mock I am trying to define is: ArrayList<String> mocked = mock(ArrayList.class); which gives a [unchecked] unchecked conversion" warning. ArrayList<String> mocked = mock(ArrayList<String>.class); gives me an error. Anyone care to enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong?

  I'm working on a program which uses the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() method to allow the user to set a breakpoint from the command-line. This has worked fine for many weeks now. However, when I was working on fixing a unit test today, I tried to use the debug switch from the command-line, and it didn't work. Here's what I've tried: I've confirmed that the Debug() method is really being called (by putting a System.Console.WriteLine() after it) I've confirmed that the build is still in Debug I've done a clean build I've restarted Product Studio A quick Google search didn't reveal anything, and the API documentation for .Net doesn't mention anything about this function not performing correctly. So... any ideas?

• Passing array into constructor to use on JList

  I know the title sound confusing and thats because it is. its a bit long so try too stay with me. this is the layout i have my code designed variables constructor methods. im trying too fill a Jlist full on names. i want too get those names using a method. so here goes. in my variables i have my JList. its called contactNames; i also have an array which stores 5 strings which are the contacts names; heres the code for that anyway String contact1; String contact2; String contact3; String contact4; String contact5; String[] contactListNames; JList contactList; simple enough. then in my constructor i have the Jlist defined to fill itself with the contents of the array fillContactList(); JList contactList = new JList(contactListNames); that method fillContactList() is coming up shortly. notice i dont have the array defined in the constructor. so heres my first question. can i do that? define the array to contain something in te constructor rather than filling it fromt the array. now heres where stuff gets balls up. ive created three different methods all of which havent worked. basically im trying to fill the array with all of them. this is the simplest one. it doesnt set the Jlist, it doesnt do anything compilicated. all it trys too do is fill the array one bit at a time public void fillContactList() { for(int i = 0;i<3;i++) { try { String contact; System.out.println(" please fill the list at index "+ i); Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); contact = in.next(); contactListNames[i] = contact; in.nextLine(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } unfortunately this doesnt qwork. i get the print out to fill it at index 0; i input something and i get a nice big stack trace starting at contactListNames[i] = contact; so my two questions in short are how i define an array in a constructor. and why cant i fill the array from that method. ************************888 **************************888 stack trace by request please fill the list at index 0 overtone java.lang.NullPointerException please fill the list at index 1 at project.AdminMessages.fillContactList(AdminMessages.java:408) at project.AdminMessages.<init>(AdminMessages.java:88) at project.AdminUser.createAdminMessages(AdminUser.java:32) at project.AdminUser.<init>(AdminUser.java:18) at project.AdminUser.main(AdminUser.java:47) it was a null poiinter exception

  Hello, Using Eclipse on a PHP Project, I recently created a tag on my SVN. Since that day, let's say I'm working on a class in my trunk, when I ctrl+space in my code, Eclipse is getting really really slow (sometimes even freeze), and if I'm lucky, it will give me 2 responses for autocompletion : One referencing some method/class from the tag, one referencing method/class from the trunk. But right now, only the reference from the trunk would be useful for me. Is there a way to limit where Eclipse parse the code to give back autocompletion suggestion ? Thank you

• ASP.Net 4.0 - Response required in SiteMap building?

  I'm running into an issue upgrading a project to .Net 4.0...and having trouble finding any reason for the issue (or at least, the change causing it). Given the freshness of 4.0, not a lot of blogs out there for issues yet, so I'm hoping someone here has an idea. Preface: this is a Web Forms application, coming from 3.5 SP1 to 4.0. In the Application_Start event we're iterating through the SiteMap and constructing routes based off data there (prettifying URLs mostly with some utility added), that part isn't failing though...or at least isn't not getting that far. It seems that calling the SiteMap.RootNode (inside application_start) causes 4.0 to eat it, since the XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode method has been changed, looking in reflector you can see it's hitting HttpResponse.ApplyAppPathModifier here: str2 = HttpContext.Current.Response.ApplyAppPathModifier(str2); HttpResponse wasn't used at all in this method in the 2.0 CLR, so what we had worked fine, in 4.0 though, that method is called as a result of this stack: [HttpException (0x80004005): Response is not available in this context.] System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode(XmlNode xmlNode, Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.ConvertFromXmlNode(Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.BuildSiteMap() System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.get_RootNode() System.Web.SiteMap.get_RootNode() Since Response isn't available here in 4.0, we get an error. To reproduce this, you can narrow the test case down to this in global: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { var s = SiteMap.RootNode; //Kaboom! //or just var r = Context.Response; //or var r = HttpContext.Current.Response; //all result in the same "not available" error } Question: Am I missing something obvious here? Or, is there another event added in 4.0 that's recommended for anything related to SiteMap on startup? For anyone curious/willing to help, I've created a very minimal project (a default VS 2010 ASP.Net 4.0 site, all the bells & whistles removed and only a blank sitemap and the Application_Start code added). • ASP.NET WebMethod Returns JSON wrapped in quotes

  Hi, I have an asp.net page with a WebMethod on it to pass JSON back to my javascript. Bellow is the web method: [WebMethod] public static string getData(Dictionary<string, string> d) { string response = "{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }"; return response; } When this is returned to the client it is formatted as follows: { \"d\": \"{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }\" } The problem is the double quotes wrapping everything under 'd'. Is there something I've missed in the web method or some other means of returning the data without the quotes? I don't really want to be stripping it out on the client everytime. Also I've seen other articles where this doesn't happen. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

• Form.ShowDialog() does not show form.

  I've come across a situation where I try to run a simple line of code in a method Dim res As DialogResult = frmOptions.ShowDialog() but nothing happens. The dialog box will not appear. If I run this method from another location in the code it executes fine (i.e. displays the form in dialog mode and code executes fine thereafter). Hence, it may be the way in which I arrive at this code that is causing my problem, but I cannot see to find what is wrong. When I pause the debugger the line of code is highlighted in green but I can't see to step over it or into it. Any idea what may cause this to happen, or what I should be looking for that might be causing the problem?? Thanks for the help!

Suppose I have such chunk of a sentence: (NP (NP (DT A) (JJ single) (NN page)) (PP (IN in) (NP (DT a) (NN wiki) (NN website)))) At a certain moment of time I have a reference to (JJ single) and I want to get the NP node binding A single page. If I get it right, that NP is the parent of the node, A and page are its siblings and it has no children (?). When I try to use the .parent() method of a tree, I always get null. The API says that's because the implementation doesn't know how to determine the parent node. Another method of interest is .ancestor(int height, Tree root), but I don't know how to get the root of the node. In both cases, since the parser knows how to indent and group trees, it must know the "parent" tree, right? How can I get it? Thanks

  I'm trying to build a custom clock view in Android. See image http://twitpic.com/1devk7 So far to draw the time and hour markers I have been using the Canvas.rotate method to get the desired effect. However, notice that it is difficult to interpret the numbers in the lower half of the clock (e.g. 6 or 9?) because of the angle in which they are drawn. When using drawText, is it possible to draw the text at 45/90/180 degrees so that all text appears upright when my onDraw method has finished?

  Hello. I'm new to Android application development and I'm currently experimenting with various UI ideas. In the image below, you can see a vertically scrolling list of horizontally scrolling galleries (and also textviews as you can see). I'm also doing some matrix and camera transformations which I will come to in a minute. For the background of the list elements, I use green. Blue is the background of the galleries, and red is the background for the images. These are just for my benefit of learning. The galleries being used are extended classes where I overrode the drawChild method to perform a canvas scale operation in order for the image closest to the center (width) to be larger than the others. The list view going vertically, I overrode the drawChild method and used the camera rotations from lack of depth dimension in the canvas functionality. The items in the list are scaled down and rotated relative to their position's proximity to the center (height). I understood that scrolling and clicking would not necessarily follow along with the image transforms, but it appears as though the parent Gallery class's drawing is constrained to the original coordinates as well (see photo below). I would love to hear any insight any of you have regarding how I can change the coordinates of the galleries in what is rendered via gallery scroll and the touch responsiveness of said gallery. Images in the gallery are not same dimensions, so don't let that throw you in looking at the image below Thanks in advance! Ben link to image (could not embed) -- Update: I was using my test application UI and noticed that when I got the UI to the point of the linked image and then I touched the top portion of the next row in the list, the gallery updated to display the proper representation. So, I added a call to clearFocus() in the drawChild method and that resulted in more accurate drawing. It does seem a tad slower, and since I'm on the Incredible, I'm worried it is a bloated solution. In any event, I would still appreciate any thoughts you have regarding the best way to have the views display properly and how to translate the touch events in the gallery's new displayed area to its touchable coordinates so that scrolling on the actual images works when the gallery has moved.   Hi. I am trying to use JSON.stringify() (from json2.js of json[dot]org ) to convert a JavaScript array to JSON string and to pass it to an asmx web method. I use jQuery AJAX. The call reaches the web method where I take a List <Object> as parameter but I get an empty list there in debug mode. My JSON string looks like well formed with all data , I even tried having single-quotes and double-quotes(escaped) around the 'names' of the JSON string. Please help.
