• Unable to create new virtual hosts using MAMP with OSX Mavericks

  I have been using virtual hosts on my Mac with MAMP, which has worked up until now. I have 2 working virtual hosts that i created in the same manner, which still work, but for some reason I am unable to create any new virtual hosts. When i attempt to go to a newly crated virtual host in my browser it generates a 404 Not Found error. The only thing i can think of possibly after i updated OSX to Mavericks, but i'm not sure what that would have done, or why the old virtual hosts still work. See excerpt below from vhosts.conf file.   I found myself in a setup on where I need to enable some authentication method using mysql. I already have an user scheme. • Problems with connecting Thunderbird client to dovecot installed on Ubuntu

  I am trying to connect a Thunderbird client to my dovecot server. The dovecot is installed on Ubuntu. I know that my server works (at least partially), since when I send a mail to a user in the server ([email protected]), I see the new file created in /home/feedback/Maildir/new. However, when I try to connect with my Thunderbird to the server, It recognizes the server, but informs me that my user/password is wrong (they are not wrong). The exact message is: Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong? • setting up tracd behind mod_proxy?

  I'm having trouble setting up mod_proxy and tracd. Seems almost all the search results for this problem take me to the built-in trac documentation page that mentions it as an option. I have several VirtualServers already running on the box in question, so running tracd on port 80 or 443 is not an option, but I do want to make my trac server accessible on this machine without exposing an additional port via the firewall. Making things even more complicated is that I have multiple trac repositories being served by the same instance of tracd, and so I want to set it up so: http://trac.abc.com is proxy'd to localhost:8000/projects/abcproject, and http://trac.def.com is proxy'd to localhost:8000/projects/defproject. Currently, the setup I have below results in 100% 403 errors. The server is running as www-data and the directory where all trac files are stored is owned by www-data, AND tracd (as show below) is running as www-data, so not sure where it's getting hung up. The relevant configuration on /var/apache2/sites-enabled/trac.abc.com: ProxyPass / http://localhost:8000/abcproject ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8000/abcproject The relevant configuration on /var/apache2/sites-enabled/trac.def.com: ProxyPass / http://localhost:8000/defproject ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8000/defproject The command used to instantiate tracd: tracd -a defproject,/var/www/vhosts/trac-common/users.htdigest,DEFProject -a abcproject,/var/www/vhosts/trac-common/users.htdigest,ABCProject -p 8000 -b localhost -e /var/www/vhosts/trac-common/projects If I access the site at http://localhost:8000/ everything works fine, but if I try to access via any of the proxy'd hosts I end up with 403 at every turn. I've used mod_proxy successfully as described above for other servers, such as couchdb, so maybe this has to do with the headers sent by tracd??

  I have a thinkpad t61 with a UPEK fingerprint reader. I'm running ubuntu 9.10, with fprint installed. Everything works fine (I am able to swipe my fingerprint to authenticate any permission dialogues or "sudo" prompts successfully) except for actually logging onto my laptop when I boot up or end my session. I receive an error below the gnome login that says "Could not locate any suitable fingerprints matched to available hardware." • Redirecting or routing all traffic to OpenVPN on a Mac OS X client

  I have configured an OpenVPN (2.2.1) server on an Ubuntu virtual machine in the Amazon elastic compute cloud. The server is up and running. I have installed OpenVPN (2.2.1) on a Mac OS X (10.8.2) client and I am using the openvpn2 binary to connect (in opposition to other clients like Tunnelblick or Viscosity). I can connect with the client and successfully ping or ssh the server through the tunnel. However, I can't redirect all internet traffic through the VPN even if I use the push "redirect-gateway def1 bypass-dhcp" option in the server.conf configurations. When I connect to the server with these configurations, I get a successful connection, but then an infinite series of error messages: "write UDPv4: No route to host (code=65)". Traffic routing seems to be compromised because I am not able to access anything anymore, not even the OpenVPN server (by pinging 10.8.0.1 for instance). This is beyond me. I am finding little help on the web and don't know what to try next. I don't think it is a problem of forwarding the traffic on the server since, first, I have also took care of that and, second, I can't even ping the VPN server locally through the tunnel (or ping anything at all for that matter). Thank you for your help. • How to set up multi users on dev server with git and github

  I'm working on lamp application. We have 2 servers (Debian) Live and Dev. I constantly work on dev main to add new features and fix bugs. When happy all works well I scp the relevant code to the Live system. Database (mysql) is local to each machine. Now this is pretty basic setup really and I want to improve the workflow a bit. I use git and github for version control. Admittedly I've only really used one branch. Their can be 3 different developers who work on the code at different times. We all use the same linux username to connect to the dev server and edit the code directly when needed. I usually then commit and push the code at the end of the day to github. One thing to bare in mind is it isn't easy to run this code on a local machine as there are many apache and subdomain configurations that wouldn't work on a local machine so it is important to work on the dev server not locally. I need to create a new process because we need to have a main trunk now and a branch with a big code re-write. What is the best way to do this. Should I create different unix logins for each developer and set up different working areas on the dev server for there changes? e.g. /var/www/mysite_derek /var/www/mysite_paul /var/www/mysite_mike my thinking is they can do a pull from the main branch and then create there own branch and merge it back in. I'm not sure how this will work though with git locally and with github. will i need to create different github user accounts as well. I'd like to do this the 'right' way and future proof for having lots of potential developers but I also don't want to over complicate it. I simple and elegant solution is preferred. any recommendations or suggestions?

• IPTables Reroute SSH based on Connection string?

  We are using a cloud server (Debian Squeeze) where public ports on a public IP route traffic to internal servers. We are looking for a way to use IPTables and ssh where based on some part of the ssh connection string (or something along these lines) iptables will reroute the ssh connection to the "right" internal server. This would allow us to use one common public port, and then re-route ssh connections to individual servers. So, for example we hope to do something like the following: user issues ssh connection (public key encryption) such as ssh -X -v -p xxx [email protected] but maybe adds something into the string for iptables to use iptables uses some part of that string or some means to re-route the connection to an internal server using something like iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING ! -s xxx.xxx.xxx.0/24 -m tcp -p tcp --dport $EXTPORT -j DNAT --to-destination $HOST:$INTPORT ....where $HOST is the internal ip of a server, $EXTPORT is the common public facing port and $INTPORT is the internal server port. It appears that the "string" aspect of iptables does not do what we want. We can currently route based on the IP table syntax we're using, but rely on having a separate public port for each server and are hoping to use one common public port and then re-route to specific internal servers based on some part of the ssh connection string or some other means. Any suggestions? Thanks!
