  I am trying to process with Proguard a MS Windows desktop application (Java 6 SE using the SWT lib provided by Eclipse). And I get the following critical error: Unexpected error while performing partial evaluation: Class = [org/eclipse/swt/widgets/DateTime] Method = [<init>(Lorg/eclipse/swt/widgets/Composite;I)V] Exception = [java.lang.IllegalArgumentException] (Can't find common super class of [java/lang/StringBuffer] and [org/eclipse/swt/internal/win32/TCHAR]) Error: Can't find common super class of [java/lang/StringBuffer] and [org/eclipse/swt/internal/win32/TCHAR] ---------------------------- When I tried to Google the error, it came out only on two spots on the entire web, that astonished me greatly. • Having Problems Getting FreeTTS and JSAPI Working

  I have a simple project idea based off of FreeTTS and the JSAPI (Java Speech API) I've downloaded and unpacked FreeTTS and run their build script. Then tried compiling my code linking in the lib directory into the class path like this: javac -cp /home/travis/Desktop/freetts-1.2/lib HelloUnleashedReader.java Which then compiles to java bytecode just fine. However when I run: java HelloUnleashedReader I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/speech/EngineModeDesc Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as there are many sites around the net discussing problems with getting it to work but not many that discuss their solution.

  Hi, I'm using an sql to replace credit card numbers with xxxx and finding that REGEX_REPLACE does not consistently replace everything. I also find that i have to put a space in front of the first X as it appears to move 1 char to the left.

• ClassNotFoundException in MySQL Connector/J

  This has been asked before but I cannot find the answer I need. 1) Using Class.forName("com.mysql.java.Driver") in the eclipse IDE all works well. I load the correct jar (mysql-connector-java-5.1.20-bin.jar), no exception. When I create a jar for my app a1.jar and double click the jar, I get the ClassnotFoundException. I created a .bat file in Windows XP with java -classpath c:\temp\mysql-connector-java-5.1.20-bin.jar -jar c:\temp\a1.jar the app statrs with the same exception. Furthermore using System.getProperty ("java.class.path") shows c:\temp\a1.jar whilst in the IDE I can see several directories

  I'm using Tomcat 6, and this is my logging.properties: handlers = org.apache.juli.FileHandler, java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler .level=FINE org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF org.apache.juli.FileHandler.level = ALL org.apache.juli.FileHandler.directory = ${catalina.base}/logs org.apache.juli.FileHandler.prefix = mylog. java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.level = FINE java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.formatter = java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter On the one hand, Tomcat seems to read this file, as it correctly saves the logfiles with the prefix "mylog" and prints only messages with log-level FINE and above. On the other hand, it keeps on writing log messages like this: Jun 8, 2010 9:53:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log SEVERE: Error writing messages ClientAbortException: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe I actually wanted to suppress all log messages from this class, as they flood my logfile, and the error is irrelevant for me. So why is the following line ignored? org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF Is there any other way to suppress the log output of this class?

  I am trying to display all the images stored in SD card in a Gallery View. I have tried using the content provider (android.provider.MediaStore.images.Media class), but seem to be getting stuck at a point. Not sure if this is the way to go about it.   My project is a computer vision java application which should implement the following : A web interface through which the form entry+images(for example a student data) will be stored into a database(Mysql) & images into directory common to my java application. Then the data & images can be retrieved from my java Gui application and I can perform the following operations of image processing through OpenCV. Actually,I want to run the face detection on images retrieved and discard the false entries(no proper face). Also the application user/admin can search an image based on text search(By Id) or By another reference image using face recognition. I am well familiar with Java but the problem is that I need a guidance on how to organise it in a stepwise manner(links appreciated).OpenCv,Php and mySql are really messy.I know doing the openCV stuff within java is real overhead but i really want to do it.But If there is any suggestion to do it elseway please guide me.So any kind of help is a ray of hope for me.   I am trying to make an Android application which would try to recover deleted content from the SD Card. How feasible it is ? I have following method in mind: 1) Since, the files are not actually deleted, can I access the file system to see files which has been marked to be overwritten. 2) Or will I have do header/footer file carving ? Is it possible from the application layer of android ? I am concerned about files stored on contiguous sectors and not the fragmented once. I want to do a basic file retrieval. • Windows XP Home Edition SP3 cant recognise PCMIA SD Card

  System Specifications: Laptop : Dell Inspiron 6000 OS: Windows Home Edition SP3 SD Adapter: Hagiwara Smart Media Adapter I inserted the card into the slot, windows xp recognises the device, lists the pcmia controller on the device manager list, an entry appears under the IDE ATA/ATAPI category on the device manager as well. However, the device does not show under my computer and the driver does not get assigned a letter number. I checked the system logs from the device manager and there were no logged errors. Checking the Hagiwara support website, the manufacturer indicates that the adapter driver is the same as the windows xp pcmia controller. Checking Dell's website, no specific drivers were listed for that either. General Search on the web indicates that multiple people face similar problems with their SD cards, yet none actually spell out the route issue that causes this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for further debugging. Thanks in advance

  Hello, I am using a device running on WindowsCE 5.00. I cannot connect the GPRS, there is an error message telling that the port cannot be opened and may be in use by another application. I am not sure but I think the port it is talking about is a comp port to the SIM card that cannot be opened because the SIM doesn't work anymore. To tell the truth, it is likely that one of my coworker did lock the SIM and kept his mouth shut ... How could I get any information about the SIM on Windows CE ?   Hello, I have a problem reading OWL/XML files from Java using Jena. I have no problem reading RDF/XML files, but whenever I create a OWL/XML file from Protege and try to read it, Java gives this error below : WARN [main] (RDFDefaultErrorHandler.java:36) Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at com.hp.hpl.jena.rdf.arp.impl.XMLHandler.endElement(XMLHandler.java:143) The code that I use to retrieve RDF/XML is below : OntModel ontModel = ModelFactory.createOntologyModel(); InputStream in = FileManager.get().open(inputFileName); if (in == null) { throw new IllegalArgumentException( "File: " + inputFileName + " not found"); } ontModel.read(in, ""); This code works with RDF/XML perfectly. • How do I detect the OpenJDK in my applet (System Properties)?

  How can I determine if my client is running OpenJDK with a web plugin? I've tried java.version and the rest of the properties listed here. Running java -version from the terminal works fine, but if I went this route, java would have to be on the user's path, which I don't know if I can trust entirely. Is there any other way to see the string given by java -version programmatically, without shelling out to the command line or terminal? Right now, when I run System.getProperties().getProperty("java.version"), I get Sun Microsystems Inc.!

• Programmitically accessing internal storage (not SD card) on Verizon HTC Droid Incredible (Android)

  Hello, I'm trying to find information on how to programmatically access the HTC Droid Incredible's supposed 8GB of internal storage. To determine the external storage (SD Card) location, I'm using android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(). I've not been able to find any corollary for internal phone storage. In examining HTC/Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, and HTC Dream/G1 phones, there (as would be expected) does not appear to be any mount point for such arbitrary internal storage. On these phones the internal storage is divided amongst /data, /system, and /cache partitions. The Incredible's internal storage is certainly not going to be located in /system. /cache is also unlikely given that it is globally non-readable/non-executable. I'd read in reviews that the phone will still be limited to 512MB or so for apps, suggesting that it is not simply a subdirectory of /data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not have access to a Droid Incredible unit myself, of course.

  I am just messing around with reading input files with java until I got stumped at the most basic of steps... finding the input file! The input.txt file is in the same directory as my class file that is calling it yet eclipse still gives me an error that it cant be found: "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem: Unhandled exception type FileNotFoundException" My code: package pa; import java.util.Scanner; public class Project { public static void main(String[] args) { java.io.File file = new java.io.File("input.txt"); System.out.println(file.getAbsolutePath()); Scanner input = new Scanner(file); } } input.txt is in the same package, same folder and everything. I'm confused :(

• Code jumps out of a jar and runs? What is causing this?

  I am trying to get a sample program working with JUNG, a graphing tool in Java. I downloaded and referenced all the .jar files in eclipse so my project hierarchy looks like this: In Test.java I have the following code: public class Test { static public void main() { System.out.print("Hello"); }} For some reason though when I try to run it as a Java Application by right clicking on Jung test in the project hierarchy I am presented with a bunch of classes. My Test.java isn't on the list so if I just leave it as ** and press ok it starts running a program that is dynamically adding nodes and vertexes to a graph. I can't seem to figure out what code its actually executing. I know java but stuff like this with the jar files seems to be getting lost on me. Any ideas? Thanks

• maven-archetype-webapp eclipse problem

  Hi all, I'm trying to create a very simple webapp with maven and eclipse, but I'm having no joy at all, in fact the reverse of joy. I go to File - New Project, select Maven Project, and select the maven-archetype-webapp. When I finish the wizard, a webapp structure gets generated but with no 'java' directory under main, just resources and webapp. So I right click on main and select new Class. The class gets created under resources (?!), and furthermore, there seems to be no compilation of it by java. I can make stupid errors and no syntax highlighting comes up. It's like java isn't recognizing it. Alternatively I have tried creating a new 'java' directory under main where it should be, but still with the same non-existent java symptoms. What gives? This is driving me insane.. Thanks all!

• Can't get Javac to work on Mac OS X

  I am trying to compile with javac on Snow Leopard through the command line. I have Xcode installed. I am just using a simple Hello World file, it works in Eclipse but I can't get it to work using javac. javac -version returns javac 1.6.0_17 HelloWorld.java public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { String message = "Welcome to Java!"; System.out.println(message); } } I type: javac HelloWorld.java and get the following error. HelloWorld.java:1: class, interface, or enum expected public class HelloWorld ^ 1 error and... javac -cp . HelloWorld.java returns the same. echo $CLASSPATH just returns blank. Thanks for the help.

• How do you fix "Too many open files" problem in Hudson?

  We use Hudson as a continuous integration system to execute automated builds (nightly and based on CVS polling) of a lot of our projects. Some projects poll CVS every 15 minutes, some others poll every 5 minutes and some poll every hour. Every few weeks we'll get a build that fails with the following output: FATAL: java.io.IOException: Too many open files java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: Too many open files at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) The next build always worked (with 0 changes) so we always chalked it up to 2 build jobs being run at the same time and happening to have too many files open during the process. This weekend we had a build fail Friday night (automatic nightly build) with the message and every other nightly build also failed. Somehow this triggered Hudson to continuously build every project which failed until the issue was resolved. This resulted in a build every 30 minutes or so of every project until sometime Saturday night when the issue magically disappeared.

  I start a year long industrial placement in September where i will be coding in Java predominantly. I am going to use the summer to brush up on my Java as in year one of the degree Java was the main language taught for OOP modules. However this year i have had no Java exposure except for an algorithms module, which was one of eight, so as you can see i am probably getting really rusty!. What i wanted to know is, how does the "real world" java programming differ from university coding and what do you suggest i brush up on that would be different to my normal workings. As a start I definitely need to get familiar with a professional IDE like NetBeans, opposed to having used BlueJ throughout but more specifically what coding practices should I get more familiar with. I appreciate they wont expect me to be a qualified full developer and will give me time, but I would like to hit the ground running as it were, with me having full hopes to secure a permanent position after I finish my degree.

  We have a thread program that sends bulk mail. The information like 1. To 2. Subject Etc., are fetched from database, mail is composed and pushed to SMTP server. One of our customer sent a bulk mail with 2390 email.
