• VS2010 RC: Add new domain service class wizard entities list is empty

  Greetings! I am going through Brad Abrams' SL4 + RIA Services series. Right now I am here: http://blogs.msdn.com/brada/archive/2010/03/15/silverlight-4-ria-services-ready-for-business-exposing-data-from-entity-framework.aspx. When I get to the "add domain service" step and the wizard asks you what entities you want to expose, the list is empty. The dropdown that let's me choose my Entity data context is there and the "DishViewEntities" is selected but it is not showing the "Restaurant" and "Plate" entities in the list below like it does in the picture. I found this thread here: http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/t/168724.aspx. The poster has the same problem as me. I have restarted VS, rebooted, regenerated the EDMX, tried creating it in different folders. Still the list is empty. When it is empty, it will not allow me to select individual entities or generate the class. Any ideas from the community? Thanks!

• NetBeans generates JpaController with errors

  Hi, I am using NetBeans 6.8 for building Spring MVC application. Techonologies : Spring MVC 2.5 Derby DB Hibernate for ORM GlassFish v3 server I use New JPA Controller Classes from Entity Classes for adding ORM file. It is supposed to generate class for managing queries with my POJO files. Problem is, that NetBeans generates following code, and won't compile : public int getBrandCount() { EntityManager em = getEntityManager(); try { CriteriaQuery cq = em.getCriteriaBuilder().createQuery(); Root<Brand> rt = cq.from(Brand.class); cq.select(em.getCriteriaBuilder().count(rt)); Query q = em.createQuery(cq); return ((Long) q.getSingleResult()).intValue(); } finally { em.close(); } } At the picture, there is NetBeans error : It looks like method getCriteriaBuilder of Entity Manager Interface is unimplemented. • Calling SQL Azure's stored procedure in silverlight

  I have a silverlight application to call the SQL Azure's stored procedure and show the data. I use the service to call stored procedure, and it is working when it is run at VS 2008. But when I integrate in php page, the data is not shown. I think the service is not running. How can I call SQL Azure stored procedure without using service? I cannot use ADO.Net Entity Domain Model and LINQ to SQL(I don't have permission to access that database in GUI). I cannot connect to SQL Azure, so which method can I use to call SQL Azure stored procedure in silverlight? Please give me the information. {I don't know very much about that silverlight. To take the detailes of my project. I want to call SQL Azure's stored procedure. So, I tried to call that Stored Procedure from ADO.Net Entity Domain Model. The problem is I cannot access that SQL Azure database. It show "Buit_in function suer_sname is not supported in this version of SQL server. Therefore, I connect to that Stored Procedure in code beind and call that function in Service and to use that data in presentation layer, I add service reference in silverlight(I mean the service is at the same project). It is perfectly working when it is running at VS. So,I take out xap file and call that xap file in php. The silverlight is running in that PHP page but the data is not shown. I think the service is not hosted. So, how can I solve my problem? I use xampp to run my php page. }

• Hibernate: OutOfMemoryError persisting Blob when printing log message

  I have a Hibernate Entity: @Entity class Foo { //... @Lob public byte[] getBytes() { return bytes; } //.... } My VM is configured with a maximum heap size of 512 MB. When I try to persist an object which has a 75 MB large object, I get an OutOfMemoryError. The names of the methods in the stack trace (StringBuilder, ByteArrayBlobType.toLoggableString, pretty.Printer.toString) suggest that hibernate is trying to write a very large log message that contains my object. Am I correct about why hibernate is using so much memory?   Hi, I installed VS Express 2010 with .NET 4.0 and now a .NET 3.5 setup project in VS 2008 adds 15 dependencies (below), what is going on??? I did not change anything in the project in between installing VS 2010, VS 2008 is packagin the following files in the project: ==================== Packaging file 'Microsoft.Transactions.Bridge.dll'... • XML Catalog file failing to resolve

  I'm using an OASIS v 1.1 compatible resolver (Norm Walsh's XMLResolver in conjunction with the catalog below. However, I'm pretty sure I've made some sort of obvious error here (this is the first time I've needed to use v 1.1 features) since attempting to resolve OxChapML.dtd fails.   Hi, all. I'm facing what I think is a simple problem with Hibernate, but can't get over it (Hibernate forums being unreachable certainly doesn't help). Since I upgraded Windsor, I now get the following exception at runtime: Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. • flex and jsf access the same instance of bean

  i integrate a flex app in a jsf-icefaces app (in a jspx site with the ice:outputmedia-tag) and want to access the same instance of a bean from flex by remote, that jsf inject. i already connect with blazeds to a java-bean. this bean - like all other beans - get other beans by injection of jsf, but when i access the bean by remote from flex it doesnt hold the injected beans (like localizer and accesmanager, both session scoped) and i can't connect to the jsf session (FacesContext.getCurrentInstance() is null). this is because flex create a new instance of the bean and it’s not the same current instance, that jsf inject, i think. i can connect from flex to the database by create a new entity manager in the java bean, but that's not what i want, because it's again another entity manager...i want persist and get data over the accessmanager-bean. i know exadel fiji and flamingo, but i couldn't work with fiji, because my jsf app include the icefaces components and then it doesn't work with richfaces which fiji needs. and flamingo work only with jboss seam and spring. is it right? i also read about the spring-flex-integration, but the jsf application did not create with spring and i don't want to integrate spring in such a large jsf app. yesterday i read about the FlexFactory interface. this interface i have to implement in my own Factory and set it in the service-config.xml of blazeds as a factory read this. i still implement my own factory but i only get application scoped beans over the servlet context which i get over FlexContext.getServletContext().getAttribute("Bean"); and not session scoped beans... i hope there is a chance to connect throw flex and jsf... thanks!

  Data Layer I have an Order class as an entity. This Order entity is my model object. Order can be different types, let it be A B C D Also Order class may have common properties like Name, Time of creation, etc. Also based on the order type there are different fields that are not common. View Layer The view contains the following Main Menu ListView The Main Menu contains the drop down menu button which is used to create the order based on the type selected from the drop down. The drop down contains the Order types ( A ,B , C and D). There are different user control based on the order type. Like for example if user chooses to create an order of type A then different view with different inputs field is popped up. Hence, there are four user control for each order type. If user selects A option from the drop down then Order of type A is created and vica versa. Now below is the List View that contains the List of orders so far created by the user. To Edit any particular order user may double click the list view row. Based on the order type clicked by the user in the listview, the view of that order type opens in edit mode. For example if user selects an order type A from the list view then view for order type A open in edit mode. Please suggest me interaction model for view model's in the scenario discussed above. • DDD: Aggregate Roots

  Hello, I need help with finding my aggregate root and boundary. I have 3 Entities: Plan, PlannedRole and PlannedTraining. Each Plan can include many PlannedRoles and PlannedTrainings. Solution 1: At first I thought Plan is the aggregate root because PlannedRole and PlannedTraining do not make sense out of the context of a Plan. They are always within a plan. Also, we have a business rule that says each Plan can have a maximum of 3 PlannedRoles and 5 PlannedTrainings. So I thought by nominating the Plan as the aggregate root, I can enforce this invariant. However, we have a Search page where the user searches for Plans. The results shows a few properties of the Plan itself (and none of its PlannedRoles or PlannedTrainings). I thought if I have to load the entire aggregate, it would have a lot of overhead. There are nearly 3000 plans and each may have a few children. Loading all these objects together and then ignoring PlannedRoles and PlannedTrainings in the search page doesn't make sense to me. Solution 2: I just realized the user wants 2 more search pages where they can search for Planned Roles or Planned Trainings. That made me realize they are trying to access these objects independently and "out of" the context of Plan. So I thought I was wrong about my initial design and that is how I came up with this solution. So, I thought to have 3 aggregates here, 1 for each Entity. This approach enables me to search for each Entity independently and also resolves the performance issue in solution 1. However, using this approach I cannot enforce the invariant I mentioned earlier. There is also another invariant that states a Plan can be changed only if it is of a certain status. So, I shouldn't be able to add any PlannedRoles or PlannedTrainings to a Plan that is not in that status. Again, I can't enforce this invariant with the second approach.   I have setup a project using both Jdo and Jpa. I used Jpa Annotation to Declare my Entity. Then I setup my testCases based on LocalTestHelper (from Google App Engine Documentation). When I run the test, a call to makePersistent of Jdo:PersistenceManager is perfectly OK; a call to persist of Jpa:EntityManager raised an error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Type ("org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel") is not that of an entity but needs to be for this operation at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:888) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:385) Caused by: org.datanucleus.exceptions.NoPersistenceInformationException: The class "org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel" is required to be persistable yet no Meta-Data/Annotations can be found for this class. • Servlet receives null from Remote EJB3 Session Bean

  I'm sure this is a beginner error... So I have a JEE6 application with entities, facades (implementing the persistence layer) and Stateless Session Beans (EJB3) with Remote interfaces (providing access to the entities via facades). This is working fine. Via the SLSB I can retrieve and manipulate entities. Now, I'm trying to do this from a Web Application (deployed on the same Glassfish, entity+interface definitions from JEE app imported as separate jar). I have a Servlet, that receives an instance of the SLSB injected. I get it to retrieve an entity, and the following happens (I can see it in the logs): the remote SLSB gets instantiated, its method called SLSB instantiates the facade, calls the 'get' method facade retrieves object from DB, returns it SLSB returns the object to the caller (all is good until here) calling servlet receives .. null !! What is going wrong? This should work, right? • Modeling a Generic Relationship in a Database

  This is most likely one for all you sexy DBAs out there: How would I effieciently model a relational database whereby I have a field in an "Event" table which defines a "SportType". This "SportsType" field can hold a link to different sports tables E.g. "FootballEvent", "RubgyEvent", "CricketEvent" and "F1 Event". Each of these Sports tables have different fields specific to that sport. My goal is to be able to genericly add sports types in the future as required, yet hold sport specific event data (fields) as part of my Event Entity. Is it possible to use an ORM such as NHibernate / Entity framework which would reflect such a relationship?   Self tracking entities. Awesome. Except when you do something like return Db.Users; none of the self-tracking entities are tracking (until, possibly, they are deserialized). Fine. So we have to recognize that there is a possibility that an entity returning to us does not have tracking enabled. Now what???   Hello, I am trying to get Fluent nHibernate to generate mappings so I can take a look at the files and the sql. The issue is that no mapping files show up in the ExportTo folder and no sql code shows up in the output window or in the log file. No errors or exceptions are generated either.
