  • Problem performance datawarehouse with lots of indexes

    - by Lieven Cardoen
Our product takes tests of some 350 candidates at the same time. At the end of the test, results for each candidate are moved to a datawarehouse full of indexes on it. For each test there's some 400 records to be entered in datawarehouse. So 400 x 350 is a lot of records. If there are not much records in the datawarehouse, all goes well. But if there are already lots of records in the datawarehouse, then a lot of inserts fail... Is there a way to have indexes that are only rebuild at the end of the day or isn't that the real problem? Or how would you solve this?

  • Data store for capturing votes & aggregating them

    - by Nathan de Vries
I'm interested in using Node.js as a socket server for stream-based communication with tens of thousands of clients. Clients will be sending votes for particular pieces of content, and receiving near-realtime updates of aggregated vote tallies from the server. The datastore needs to support: Storing the votes Summarising the votes in near-realtime Preventing multiple votes within an arbitrary time period (e.g. clients can only vote once for a piece of content every 1 minute) Something that already has client libraries for Node.js would be preferable.

  • TDD test data loading methods

    - by Dave Hanson
I am a TDD newb and I would like to figure out how to test the following code. I am trying to write my tests first, but I am having trouble for creating a test that touches my DataAccessor. I can't figure out how to fake it. I've done the extend the shipment class and override the Load() method; to continue testing the object. I feel as though I end up unit testing my Mock objects/stubs and not my real objects. I thought in TDD the unit tests were supposed to hit ALL of the methods on the object; however I can never seem to test that Load() code only the overriden Mock Load My tests were write an object that contains a list of orders based off of shipment number. I have an object that loads itself from the database. public class Shipment { //member variables protected List<string> _listOfOrders = new List<string>(); protected string _id = "" //public properties public List<string> ListOrders { get{ return _listOfOrders; } } public Shipment(string id) { _id = id; Load(); } //PROBLEM METHOD // whenever I write code that needs this Shipment object, this method tries // to hit the DB and fubars my tests // the only way to get around is to have all my tests run on a fake Shipment object. protected void Load() { _listOfOrders = DataAccessor.GetOrders(_id); } } I create my fake shipment class to test the rest of the classes methods .I can't ever test the Real load method without having an actual DB connection public class FakeShipment : Shipment { protected new void Load() { _listOfOrders = new List<string>(); } } Any thoughts? Please advise. Dave

  • Which MySQL Frontend shows foreign rows?

    I once came across a MySQL Frontend app that displayed foreign linked rows within the parent row, if for instance the Events table has a foreign key to the Students table: Student ID Name DOB -- ---- --------- [+] 22 Bob 25-1-1984 [-] 21 Jane 25-1-1982 Event ID Student-ID Name Time -- ---------- ---- --------- 1 21 Event A 05:50 1 21 Event B 17:20 [+] 20 Jack 25-1-1980

  • Mysql : get data from 2 tables (need help)

    - by quangtruong1985
    Assume that I have 2 tables : members and orders (Mysql) Members : id | name 1 | Lee 2 | brad Orders : id | member_id | status (1: paid, 2: unpaid) | total 1 | 1 | 1 | 1000000 2 | 1 | 1 | 1500000 3 | 1 | 2 | 1300000 4 | 2 | 1 | 3000000 5 | 2 | 2 | 3500000 6 | 2 | 2 | 3300000 I have a sql query : SELECT m.name, COUNT(o.id) as number_of_order, SUM(o.total) as total2 FROM orders o LEFT JOIN members m ON o.member_id=m.id GROUP BY o.member_id which give me this: name | number_of_order | total2 Lee | 3 | 3800000 brad | 3 | 9800000 All that I want is something like this : name | number_of_order | total2 | Paid Unpaid | Paid Unpaid ------------------------------------------------ Lee | 3 | 3800000 | 2 1 | 2500000 1300000 ------------------------------------------------ brad | 3 | 9800000 | 1 2 | 3000000 6800000 ------------------------------------------------ How to make a query that can give me that result? Thanks for your time!

  • Symfony: embedRelation() controlling options for nesting multiple levels of relations

    - by wulftone
Hey all, I'm trying to set some conditional statements for nested embedRelation() instances, and can't find a way to get any kind of option through to the second embedRelation. I've got a "Measure-Page-Question" table relationship, and I'd like to be able to choose whether or not to display the Question table. For example, say I have two "success" pages, page1Success.php and page2Success.php. On page1, I'd like to display "Measure-Page-Question", and on page2, I'd like to display "Measure-Page", but I need a way to pass an "option" to the PageForm.class.php file to make that kind of decision. My actions.class.php file has something like this: // actions.class.php $this-form = new measureForm($measure, array('option'=$option)); to pass an option to the "Page", but passing that option through "Page" into "Question" doesn't work. My measureForm.class.php file has an embedRelation in it that is dependent on the "option": // measureForm.class.php if ($this-getOption('option') == "page_1") { $this-embedRelation('Page'); } and this is what i'd like to do in my pageForm.class.php file: // pageForm.class.php if ($this-getOption('option') == "page_1") { // Or != "page_2", or whatever $this-embedRelation('Question'); } I can't seem to find a way to do this. Any ideas? Is there a preferred Symfony way of doing this type of operation, perhaps without embedRelation? Thanks, -Trevor As requested, here's my schema.yml: # schema.yml Measure: connection: doctrine tableName: measure columns: _kp_mid: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: true description: type: string() fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false frequency: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: Page: local: _kp_mid foreign: _kf_mid type: many Page: connection: doctrine tableName: page columns: _kp_pid: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: true _kf_mid: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false next: type: string() fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false number: type: string() fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false previous: type: string() fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: Measure: local: _kf_mid foreign: _kp_mid type: one Question: local: _kp_pid foreign: _kf_pid type: many Question: connection: doctrine tableName: question columns: _kp_qid: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: true _kf_pid: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false text: type: string() fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false type: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: Page: local: _kf_pid foreign: _kp_pid type: one

  • Python list comprehension to return edge values of a list

    - by mvid
If I have a list in python such as: stuff = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9] with length n (in this case 9) and I am interested in creating lists of length n/2 (in this case 4). I want all possible sets of n/2 values in the original list, for example: [1, 2, 3, 4], [2, 3, 4, 5], ..., [9, 1, 2, 3] is there some list comprehension code I could use to iterate through the list and retrieve all of those sublists? I don't care about the order of the values within the lists, I am just trying to find a clever method of generating the lists.

  • Retrieving related data in the Symfony Admin Generator

    - by bjoern
I have a problem with the Admin Generator. The Table of Pages have the column sf_guard_user_id. The rest of the table looks as this part of the generator.yml in the line display, list: title: Pages display: [=title, sfGuardUser, views, state, privacy, created_at, updated_at] sort: [created_at, desc] fields: sfGuardUser: { label: Author } created_at: { label: Published, date_format: dd.MM.y } updated_at: { label: Updated, date_format: dd.MM.y } table_method: retrieveUserList Now the sf_guard_user_id is been replaced and the username ist displayed. Don't get me wrong, that works fine. But how can I get other variables from the sfGuarsUser relation? When I only add salt or another variable to display I get this, Unknown record property / related component "salt" on "simplePage" But why?

  • Passing data with Rails' link_to helper

    - by mathee
I am implementing a question-and-answer application with Ruby on Rails. I have MVCs for Questions and Answers. In the home view (index.haml), I list the Questions like this: - @questions.each do |q| %tr %td =link_to q.title, q Next to each of those, I want to add a link that will create a new Answer and pass the id of the Question in that row (continued from the above Haml code) : %td #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, pass q.id here somehow?} I don't know how to properly pass it and then access it in AnswersController. I tried #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, :question_id => q.id}, but that was just a guess, and I don't know how to access that in AnswersController. I read the Rails API docs, and I know you can add query, too, but I still don't know how to access the value in AnswersController.

  • Curve fitting: Find the smoothest function that satisfies a list of constraints.

    - by dreeves
Consider the set of non-decreasing surjective (onto) functions from (-inf,inf) to [0,1]. (Typical CDFs satisfy this property.) In other words, for any real number x, 0 <= f(x) <= 1. The logistic function is perhaps the most well-known example. We are now given some constraints in the form of a list of x-values and for each x-value, a pair of y-values that the function must lie between. We can represent that as a list of {x,ymin, ymax} triples such as constraints = {{0, 0, 0}, {1, 0.00311936, 0.00416369}, {2, 0.0847077, 0.109064}, {3, 0.272142, 0.354692}, {4, 0.53198, 0.646113}, {5, 0.623413, 0.743102}, {6, 0.744714, 0.905966}} Graphically that looks like this: We now seek a curve that respects those constraints. For example: Let's first try a simple interpolation through the midpoints of the constraints: mids = ({#1, Mean[{#2,#3}]}&) @@@ constraints f = Interpolation[mids, InterpolationOrder->0] Plotted, f looks like this: That function is not surjective. Also, we'd like it to be smoother. We can increase the interpolation order but now it violates the constraint that its range is [0,1]: The goal, then, is to find the smoothest function that satisfies the constraints: Non-decreasing. Tends to 0 as x approaches negative infinity and tends to 1 as x approaches infinity. Passes through a given list of y-error-bars. The first example I plotted above seems to be a good candidate but I did that with Mathematica's FindFit function assuming a lognormal CDF. That works well in this specific example but in general there need not be a lognormal CDF that satisfies the constraints.

  • How to use DAOs with hibernate/jpa?

    - by Ari
Assuming the DAO structure and component interaction described below, how should DAOs be used with persistence layers like hibernate and toplink? What methods should/shouldn't they contain? Would it be bad practice to move the code from the DAO directly to the service? For example, let's say that for every model we have a DAO (that may or may not implement a base interface) that looks something like the following: public class BasicDao<T> { public List<T> list() { ... } public <T> retrieve() { ... } public void save() { ... } public void delete() { ... } } Component interaction pattern is -- service DAO model

  • Efficiency of data structures in C99 (possibly affected by endianness)

    - by Ninefingers
Hi All, I have a couple of questions that are all inter-related. Basically, in the algorithm I am implementing a word w is defined as four bytes, so it can be contained whole in a uint32_t. However, during the operation of the algorithm I often need to access the various parts of the word. Now, I can do this in two ways: uint32_t w = 0x11223344; uint8_t a = (w & 0xff000000) >> 24; uint8_t b = (w & 0x00ff0000) >> 16; uint8_t b = (w & 0x0000ff00) >> 8; uint8_t d = (w & 0x000000ff); However, part of me thinks that isn't particularly efficient. I thought a better way would be to use union representation like so: typedef union { struct { uint8_t d; uint8_t c; uint8_t b; uint8_t a; }; uint32_t n; } word32; Using this method I can assign word32 w = 0x11223344; then I can access the various parts as I require (w.a=11 in little endian). However, at this stage I come up against endianness issues, namely, in big endian systems my struct is defined incorrectly so I need to re-order the word prior to it being passed in. This I can do without too much difficulty. My question is, then, is the first part (various bitwise ands and shifts) efficient compared to the implementation using a union? Is there any difference between the two generally? Which way should I go on a modern, x86_64 processor? Is endianness just a red herring here? I could inspect the assembly output of course, but my knowledge of compilers is not brilliant. I would have thought a union would be more efficient as it would essentially convert to memory offsets, like so: mov eax, [r9+8] Would a compiler realise that is what happening in the bit-shift case above? If it matters, I'm using C99, specifically my compiler is clang (llvm). Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.Net: Insert null DateTime

  • Should I have different models and views for no user data than for some user data?

    - by Sam Holder
I'm just starting to learn asp.net mvc and I'm not sure what the right thing to do is. I have a user and a user has a collection of (0 or more) reminders. I have a controller for the user which gets the reminders for the currently logged in user from a reminder service. It populates a model which holds some information about the user and the collection of reminders. My question is should I have 2 different views, one for when there are no reminders and one for when there are some reminders? Or should I have 1 view which checks the number of reminders and displays different things? Having one view seems wrong as then I end up with code in my view which says if (Model.Reminders.Count==0){//do something} else {do something else}, and having logic in the view feels wrong. But if I want to have 2 different views then I'd like to have some code like this in my controller: [Authorize] public ActionResult Index() { MembershipUser currentUser = m_membershipService.GetUser(); IList<Reminder> reminders = m_reminderRepository.GetReminders(currentUser); if (reminders.Count == 0) { var model = new EmptyReminderModel { Email = currentUser.Email, UserName = currentUser.UserName }; return View(model); } else { var model = new ReminderModel { Email = currentUser.Email, UserName = currentUser.UserName, Reminders = reminders }; return View(model); } but obviously this doesn't compile as the View can't take both different types. So if I'm going to do this should I return a specific named view from my controller, depending on the emptiness of the reminders, or should my Index() method redirect to other actions like so: [Authorize] public ActionResult Index() { MembershipUser currentUser = m_membershipService.GetUser(); IList<Reminder> reminders = m_reminderRepository.GetReminders(currentUser); if (reminders.Count == 0) { return RedirectToAction("ShowEmptyReminders"); } else { return RedirectToAction("ShowReminders"); } } which seems nicer but then I need to re-query the reminders for the current user in the ShowReminders action. Or should I be doing something else entirely?

  • Programmatical Creation of NSMappingModel

    - by enchilada
I want to programmatically (without Lightweight Migration) create a mapping model between two models that are exactly the same, except one of the entities (there are a bunch of entities) has different attributes. Let's call this entity "Person". And let's say the destination model has 1) added a new attribute called "address" 2) deleted an attribute called "eyeColor" 3) kept (i.e. not done anything with) an attribute called "name" How would you create an NSMappingModel between these models programmatically? I happen to have some explicit questions that might help me do this by myself: Q1) Do I have to create NSEntityMapping objects for all of the entities other than "Person", even if they remain unchanged? Q2) How do I deal with the "address" attribute in "Person", which is a new one being created? Should I create an NSPropertyMapping for that somehow, that turns nothing into something ("address")? Q3) How do I deal with the "name" attribute in "Person"? Do I have to create an NSPropertyMapping for that, even though it simply stays the same? Q4) For the NSEntityMapping corresponding to "Person", is not creating any NSPropertyMapping for "eyeColor" a proper way to get it deleted? Or should I create an NSPropertyMapping for "eyeColor"? If yes, how would this object be created, i.e. what would determine that its purpose is to get rid of "eyeColor"? Thank you in advance, and I apologize not being able to answer these questions myself, as the documenation really has no good example of how to create NSMappingModels programmatically. Note again that I'm not allowed to use Lightweight Migration. I must do this manually.

  • WPF Listview- What would be the best way to display data from different ObservableCollections based

    - by highone
I have three ObservableCollections: CharacterCollection, LocationCollection, and ItemCollection. They are all collections of objects; CharacterCollection is a collection of Character Objects. I need to display, in the listview, information from the collection determined by the user clicking on a button. I would prefer to use databinding, but I don't see a clear cut way to do that with multiple collections containing different types of objects. What would be the best way to easily switch between collections?

  • Magento resource model for table with compound primary key

    - by sdek
I am creating a custom module for a Magento ecommerce site, and the module will center around a new (ie, custom) table that has a compound/composite primary key, or rather the table has two columns that make up the primary key. Does anybody know how to create your models/resource models based on a table with a compound key? To give a few more details, I have looked up several tutorials and also used the excellent moduleCreator script. But it seems like all the tutorials revolve around the table having a PK with just one column in it. Something like this: class <Namespace>_<Module>_Model_Mysql4_<Module> extends Mage_Core_Model_Mysql4_Abstract { public function _construct(){ $this->_init('<module_alias>/<table_alias>', '<table_primary_key_id>'); } } Also, I just noticed that looking at the database model almost all tables have a single primary key. I understand this has much to do with the EAV-style db structure, but still is it possible to use a table with a compound PK? I want to stick with the Magento framework/conventions if possible. Is it discouraged? Should I just change the structure of my custom table to have some dummy id column? I do have the ability to do that, but geez! (Another side note that I thought I would mention is that it looks like the Zend Framework provides a way to base a class on a table with compound primary key (see Example #20 on this page - about half-way down), so it seems that the Magento framework should also provide for it... I just don't see how.)
