• If element has been 'mouseover'ed for 500ms, run function with jQuery

  For the sanity of my users, I want a 'mouseover' event to run after the selector has been hovered for half a second rather than as soon as they hover it. I first tried a setTimeout function but that runs however long the element has been hovered, I didn't think it through too much I guess. I've also spent a day (on and off) searching (and playing Pacman) ti no result, unless I'm searching for the wrong things. • ActiveRecord and transactionsin between `before_save` and `save`

  I have some logic in before_save whereby (only) when some conditions are met I let the new row be created with special_number equal to the maximum special_number in the database + 1. (If the conditions aren't met then I do something different, so I can't use auto-increments) My worry is that two threads acting on this database at once might pick the same special_number if the second is executed while the first is saving. Is there way to lock the database between before_save and finishing the save, but only in some cases? I know all saves are sent in transactions, will this do the job for me? def before_save if things_are_just_right # -- Issue some kind of lock? # -- self.lock? • DLL Load Failed: %1 is not a valid win32 application

  So I have a situation where I need to make binary patches and then be able to apply them from within python. I found bsdiff which looks like a great algorithm and has a python extension module, but that extension module doesn't have a windows installer past Python 2.5 Alright, so having never even written C seriously, let alone attempted a python extension module, I set out to compile it myself. After a few hours of bashing my head against a DLL load error with MinGW32, I managed to get it compiled and built using the setup.py provided in the source of the project. However, upon importing the resulting bsdiff module, I get: ImportError: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. Any advice?

  Hi, I have a financial cube and i have to calculate Daily Sales Outstanding as : Number of Days between the selected month last date and the earliest transaction date when cummulative sum of Revenue from last date of the month till the date where sum revenue <= the debt amount for the date . e.g On 31/12/2009 my debt amount = 2,500,000 31-Dec-09 30-Nov-09 15-Oct-09 31-Oct-09 Revenue 1,000,000 1,000,000 500,000 1,0000 Cummulative sum of revenue 1,000,000 2,00,000 2,500,000 4,000,000 No of Days 31 30 16 On 15/Oct/09 cummulative revenue is 2,500,000 which equals my debt amount on that day Count of Days = 31 + 31 + 16 = 76 Days. In other words Sum Revenue from the selected date backwards until sum total equals or exeeds the total to date balance of the debtors. Any help will be highly appreciated .   I have a table of events called event. For the purpose of this question it only has one field called date.   Is there a guarantee that a real number (float, double, etc) can "cover" all integers within its range? By cover I mean, that for every integer within its range there is such real number that this equality holds: real == int Or in another example, let's say I have the biggest real number which is smaller than given integer. When I add "epsilon" will I get this number equal to given integer or bigger than integer? (I know that among real numbers you should not write comparisons as == for equality, I am simply asking for better understanding subject, not for coding comparisons.)

I just don't know how to insert it into the js code. If I do it like this: addOption(list, "Cars", "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cars"); Then the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; comes into the text, so it gets displayed for the users. For example, if I were looking for "p2", then I would like to know that "s1" has "p2, p7, p8" and "s3" has "p2, p5". Please let me know if you require any more information. • If cookie found, get data, else create cookie, is this good logic?

  I have an Action that basically adds an item to a cart, the only way the cart is known is by checking the cookie, here is the flow of logic, please let me know if you see any issue... /order/add/[id] is called via GET action checks for cookie, if no cookie found, it makes a new cart, writes the identifier to the cookie, and adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart created if cookie is found, it gets the cart identifier from the cookie, gets the cart object, adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart found so it's basically like... action add(int id){ if(cookie is there) cart = getcart(cookievalue) else cart = makecart() createcookie(cart.id) additemtocart(cart.id, id) return "success"; } Seem right? I can't really thing of another way that would make sense.

  Hey guys quick question, I am kind of a noob at administering my server right now. I was just wondering if anyone could let me know what I was doing wrong in trying to enable mod_deflate. I have Apache 2.0+ and tried the code in my htaccess file AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css <FilesMatch "\\.(js|css|html|htm|php|xml)$"> SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </FilesMatch> It did not compress any of my files when I tested my site in firebug. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong, would really appreciate any pointers.

• What does -setPropagatesDeletesAtEndOfEvent: actually do?

  Let me try it: If I don't set this, then the default value is YES. So when I delete an managed object from the context, the context propagates this immediately to the persistent store so the object is gone? And when I set this to NO, then objects are deleted from the persistent store only when calling -save? Is that really true? I mean: If it was true, then the default behavior is that once you call the context to delete an object, the object is gone. Lets assume you're not using an undo manager. So... gone. Right? No rollback possible? Or can it still be recovered with a rollback?

• Google Chrome window.open height includes URL bar

  When we open a window using: window.open("/calendar",'calendar','width=950,height=576,titlebar=no,statusbar=no,menubar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no'); Firefox 3 and IE 7 open it to have a content area height of 576 plus the browser items (URL bar, status bar, etc). Chrome however opens it to have a total height of 576 meaning a scrollbar appears to the right of the content (and then the bottom because the width is now reduced). How can I get around this? It's for a heavy layout part of a web app so it's not just a matter of "let the user scroll", the client doesn't want that. Has anyone come across this? I don't mind browser sniffing and opening the window bigger, but I know that's yucky these days.

• Splitting values into groups evenly

  Let me try to explain the situation the best I can. Lets say I have 3 values 1, 2, 3 I tell an algorithm to split this values into x columns. Lets say x = 2 for clarification. The algorithm determines that the group of values is best put into two columns the following way. 1st column 2nd column --------------------------- 1 3 2 Each column has an even number (totals, not literals) value. Now lets say I have the following values 7, 8, 3, 1, 4 I tell the algorithm that I want the values split into 3 columns. The algorithm now tells me that the following is the best fit. 1st column 2nd column 3rd column 8 7 3 1 4 Notice how the columns arent quiet even, but it is as close as it can get. A little over and a little under is considered ok, as long as the list is AS CLOSE TO EVEN AS IT CAN BE. Anybody got any suggestions? Know any good methods of doing this?

  I am building a webpage using PHP to search within my database. I am able to do a query and get the data to show on my page. I also have a picture that is related to each record. Let's say something like a picture ID for each employee. I am wondering what is the best way to store and retrieve pictures in order to get it show using PHP. Is there a way to store all the pictures in the subfolder like " image" and retrieve the pictures using PHP? I tried to search around on the internet, but I get confused. Also, when I type something in the search box and click the button, is there a way to keep the input in the search box without erasing it? Thank you very much.

• is it a good idea to write tests for environments other than development?

  Let's say I have a (fairly typical) set of environments: PROD, UAT, QA, DEV. Is it a good idea to run your tests across all environments? Here's what I'm thinking of. I have a proc in SQL that my code depends on, I'll call it proc_getActiveCustomers. If that proc isn't present my app will go south real fast. So I write a test that checks for the existence of this proc in the database. Nothing new here. But when I then deploy my app to the QA environment, would I also want to have a test that checks that environment for the existence of proc_getActiveCustomers? I think this is a good idea but I've never heard much about testing in environments outside of development. Makes me wonder if there's some downside I'm not aware of. The direction that I'm going is to have a list of environments in code and then passing that environment into my unit test.

• swipe to delete uitableview cell; a bit jumpy?

  I have implemented "swipe to delete" on my table cell. It works fine, how ever, the delete button is a little jumpy; as in, i really have to position my finger on top of the button and carefully touch it to delete the record. I am not sure if am making it clear; let me do my best to explain When the delete button appears; the user has trouble clicking on it, it disappears the moment its clicked. THe user has to try a few times to actually delete the cell. Am not sure what the reason is, it just seems like the delete button gets hidden as though the user has clicked on a different part of the cell. Any suggestsions?
